A very short update I'm afraid but it didn't take 2 years for me to do which is an improvement.

She could hear the beeping. It was rhythmic, soothing almost. She wasn't aware of anything other than the beeping. She didn't want to concentrate on anything else. There was nothing else but the beep, beep, beep...

Ronnie sat gazing at Sasha infront of her. Her forehead creased in a frown, her lips pursed slightly. She was worried that Sasha hadn't woken up yet. The doctors had reassured her that there was nothing physically wrong, Sasha was simply in shock. Everytime they came in and checked on her Ronnie had the same conversation over and over again.

'Why hasn't she woken up yet?'

'She has had a major shock.'

'It's been hours. Surely she should have at least moved?'

'The mind is a powerful thing Ms Mitchell. It seems as though she's had a lot of trauma in her life. Her mind is probably trying to protect her from all of the bad stuff.'

Then they would finish staring at the notes, scribble down a few words and give her a sympathetic smile.

'Talk to her, she might be able to hear you.'

Then they would exit the room.

But Ronnie didn't know what to say to her. Roxy had sat and chatted to her when she was here, but she had to go and look after Amy. Peggy had rushed in as soon as she could but she soon got frustrated at Sasha's lack of response and decided she would be of better use elsewhere. Ronnie hadn't left. The silent promise she had made in the car that she would not let the girl be alone was ever present in her mind.

Ever so gently Ronnie reached across and picked up Sasha's hand which had fallen out the side of the blanket. she intertwined their fingers and gently rubbed the back of her hand. A silent tear drifted out the corner of Ronnie's eye. She didn't brush it away as she normally would, she was too fixed on the small woman infront of her. Ronnie shook her head when she thought of Sasha as a young woman. No, she was still a child. Lying on the bed, so peacefully, she could have been only 5 years old.

The sound of the door being pushed open forced her to drag her eyes of Sasha and towards the woman who had just stepped inside the room. Ronnie scanned her face. Her green scrubs indicated that she was not here to check on Sasha. She waited for the doctor to speak. Her face was giving nothing away.

'Kai's, out of theatre. He's in recovery now. He's got a long way to go but for now he's stable.'
