Epilogue
Jacob Darrow could find no silver lining in the situation he was in. He tried to go over all the details ever since he had been take captive during his fight with Harkin. Never before had he felt that kind of power, it was... beyond his 12 year old comprehension. Still, he found himself standing before the newly erected monument, which stood on the edge of town, facing where the battle had taken place.
Jake was angry with the outcome. He was alive, but that didn't make things better. His sister, as much as he had hated her, was gone. There was no trace of the flying ship or its passengers after it flew away and exploded. He had also lost a lot of people he did tolerate, like his cousins, Gwen, Trent, January, and Logan. His anger and rage intensified as reminders of the lost came to mind.
A hand was placed on his shoulder, urging him to stay calm. Jake saw the nine-fingered hand belonged to Howard. He had volunteered to watch over him. Howard was without a family and home, and Jake's was empty.
He also saw his other cousin, Javier Beas, and his sister, Ashley, standing beside him. They too were without a family. Jake felt it was his part to take him in as part of the family. Maybe with these substitutes, he could have the family that he used to. Maybe.
But he quickly dismissed those thoughts and replaced them with his everlasting anger. Jake was always angry, and knew he was always going to be angry. He looked up at the statue of his sister, a memorial to the first Roman dictator in over two thousand years. Her image stood upon a column of marble, with the names of everyone who was lost during the battle, and the previous bombing and attacks. His sister's name was the biggest.
"Of course," Jake said to himself. "They would make her name the biggest."
"Jake, what your sister and cousin did... " Howard tried to say. "I don't know if anyone else would have been able to do that."
"She got herself killed for nothing," Jake muttered angrily.
"She died in exchange for a future, for you, for everyone," Howard tried explaining to the angry child. "All of those people did."
"Yeah, whatever," he said, storming off.
Storming off, Jake knew what Howard was saying. He knew his father, mother, and sister were gone, but at the same time existed... in memory.
End.
