Dani

Dani sighed. After searching with Hermione for hours in potion book after potion book, they simply couldn't find it. Their heads ached and Hermione had long since become frustrated.

"It should be here!" she protested from the piles of books laid out before them. "Something must be here!"

"Hermione, I think we should ask Professor Slughorn. We've been searching for hours and we haven't come up with anything!"

"Perhaps because it's dark magic."

"I need to find out what this is."

"Why? You seem really frantic about this."

Dani bit her lip, wondering how she could explain this. Even to a witch, this would sound utterly bizarre. Then again, if anyone could help her, it would be Hermione.

She took a deep breath before speaking. "This vial. It's not an ordinary vial." She paused, gauging Hermione's reaction. She looked slightly confused, but gestured for her to continue. "Me and three other girls drank the liquid contained in the vial and it teleported us to an alternate world where this was all fictional."

"But you were right here," pointed out Hermione. "Are you sure-"

"I'm positive. I need to find out what this is so me and the three other girls can figure out the antidote and stop the person behind it all."

"Dani, don't you think this is a bit far fetched?"

"Yes, but Hermione, it is real!"

"Do you have any proof?"

Dani withdrew a slip of paper from her pocket, with a number scrawled on it. "This is Sam's mobile phone number. If this wasn't real, why would I have it?"

"You could have wrote down someone's number and forgotten it was in your pocket, or someone could have slipped their number into your pocket."

"Hermione, I've worn this outfit several times since starting school and there has been nothing inside my pockets. I like to stuff my hands inside them, as a habit, and it hasn't been there before."

Hermione still looked sceptical. "Are you sure this isn't a trap?"

"No, but I trust these girls. We were all taken from our worlds and placed into a fictional universe. Why would I make that up?"

"I just want to make sure you don't do anything that could jeopardise your life. These are dangerous times now."

"I'll be fine Hermione. But thank you, for caring."

"You're welcome."

"I think I'd better consult Professor Slughorn about it."

"Do you really think he'd know about it?"

"Why wouldn't he? He's a great potioneer."

"I think Professor Snape would be better."

"Yes but he's not exactly known to be friendly towards Gryffindors."

"Well…good luck. Don't forget to finish that essay of yours!"

Dani groaned. "Don't remind me."

Dani quietly left the library, leaving Hermione with the piles of books. She looked quite content if anything by the collection of books surrounding her, despite the fact they held no help anymore. Dani lightly shook her head, wondering what an intelligent person such as Hermione was doing in Gryffindor. As she shook her head, she navigated her way through the students to the sixth floor where Professor Slughorn resided, from the third floor where the library was.

She continued to tightly grip the sheet of paper in her hand with the ingredients as she knocked loudly on his door, hoping he'd open up and help her. She had her doubts, but this was necessary.

The door swung open to reveal Professor Slughorn, looking slightly surprised by Dani's appearance, but smiled warmly at her. "Hello…Miss McBroad!" he declared.

"McCord," corrected Dani.

"Ah yes, Dani. What can I do for you?"

"Can I come in and explain it? This is a private matter."

"Of course! Would you like some tea?" he asked as he moved out the way, allowing her entry.

Dani noticed the comfortable sofa and perched down on it, smiling politely. "No thank you."

Professor Slughorn looked slightly miffed but sat opposite her and smiled warmly again. "Now, why don't you explain what you need from me?"

Dani took a deep breath, taking out the small vial kept safely in her pocket. "Someone gave me this vial and it had a liquid inside it. The liquid put me to sleep but sent me and three other girls into an alternate universe where this was all fictional."

"Are you certain this wasn't a very excessive dream?"

"Yes! Sir. I found this in my pocket." Dani pulled out the slip of paper out of her pocket and handed it to Professor Slughorn, who studied the numbers. "This is a mobile phone number."

"What's a 'mobile phone'?"

Dani realised he was a pureblood and would have no idea what this was. She debated on trying to explain what it was, but she decided her time would be wasted. "It's not important, sir. The point is, I didn't have this before."

Professor Slughorn looked sceptical. "How can I help?"

"I need to know what the liquid was. Hermione and I tried searching in potion books but we couldn't find it. However, we managed to find some ingredients that could be used to create the potion. I was hoping you could help me re-create it, sir?"

"Re-create it?! Are you absurb?!"

"No sir. I need to re-create it so I can find an antidote and to show it to these three other girls."

"An antidote?"

"Yes sir. Hermione could help me. But I can't do it without your help."

"Ah yes, Miss Granger. She's a very bright witch. I knew a student like her, many years ago." He trailed off, his smile dropping and his eyes filling with sorrow.

"So, will you help me sir?"

Professor Slughorn looked at Dani, debating whether he should. "I could overlook it, but that's the most I can do."

"Thank you professor! Could we possibly start tomorrow? We need to do it as soon as possible."

"Certainly."

"Thank you professor."

"Is that all?"

"Yes sir."

"Well, I'm glad I could help."

Professor Slughorn led Dani out of his office, saying a brief goodbye, to which she returned. The moment she'd turned away from him and headed back to her common room, she felt a surge of excitement run through her. She'd be able to crack the potion and give it to the other three, who'd no doubt be delighted. She decided to pass along the good news when she next saw Hermione, hoping she'd help her.

The next day quickly arrived and the two girls hurried along to Professor Slughorn's potions classroom. They'd spent some time discussing the ingredients they knew for definite, and the ingredients they could experiment with. Hermione provided more ingredients than Dani, but she knew some.

Professor Slughorn politely greeted them and led them into the classroom. He got a cauldron prepared and gave them the required ingredients they'd provided on a sheet of paper. He then shook his head lightly.

"Girls, this could take all afternoon," he said. "We'll have to do this several times over."

"How about we do several at once?" suggested Dani.

"Yes, that could work," agreed Hermione. "I could write down the steps, with Professor Slughorn's help and we can all overlook a cauldron."

"Brilliant! You really are the brightest witch of your age Miss Granger," complimented Professor Slughorn.

Hermione smiled, blushing slightly. "Thank you sir."

"Now, let's begin."

Hours ticked by before the three had given up. They'd spent all day mixing potions and trying to get the mixtures right, but none of them had worked. A few had turned to the same clear colour, but Dani knew they weren't right. Hermione had become frustrated and flustered, whilst Professor Slughorn was becoming more and more confused what the potion could possibly be.

Dani had been so sure they'd figure out, but as she slumped down onto a stool in disappointment, she wondered whether it was worth taking them with her. There had only been one that had been remotely close, but it was still wrong.

"I don't think there's anything else we can do Hermione," said Dani, gently stopping the girl.

"I don't think this potion exists!" snapped Hermione. "We've tried everything Dani, and nothing's worked. I'm starting to think this entire thing doesn't exist either!"

"It does! I'm returning home with this potion and I'll send you a message when I'm with my friends, to tell you it is real!"

"It certainly seems to be real. Why don't you consult Professor Dumbledore about this? He might know," suggested Professor Slughorn.

"Thank you sir. I'm sorry for wasting your time," replied Dani.

"Nonsense! You've discovered a new potion. However, considering what it does, I suggest you keep it a secret."

"Yes sir. Thank you. Do you know what the password is to get into Professor Dumbledore's office? Or even what floor it is on?"

"I can show you that," boasted Hermione.

"Thank you Hermione," said Dani, smiling genuinely.

"Goodbye girls," said Professor Slughorn as he shooed them out of the room. The two girls chorused their goodbyes back.

Just as they left, Dani realised she didn't know the password. She told Hermione to wait a moment as she went back and knocked on the door. Professor Slughorn called back, telling her to continue. She entered the room. "Professor, what's the password into Professor Dumbledore's office?"

"Fizzing Whizbees," he answered.

"Thank you sir."

Professor Slughorn said goodbye once more and Dani returned it, before hastily catching back up to a patiently waiting Hermione.

A silence fell between them until they were back into the main part of the castle, rather than the dark, gloomy dungeons. Neither knew what to say, but it was Dani who decided to speak first. "I know you're sceptical, but Hermione, I honestly know this is real."

"How could you possibly know with 100% certainty?"

"I don't."

"So how do you know this isn't a trap?"

"I don't. But Gryffindors are reckless like that."

"That's what worries me!"

"I sometimes wonder how you belong in Gryffindor."

"I've been told that before."

"But then again, you did help out with Dumbledore's Army."

Hermione smiled half-heartedly. "Something needed to be done. Professor Umbridge wasn't teaching us what we needed to know."

"I hope she got the punishment she deserved."

"I'm sure she did."

Another silence fell between them, but neither appeared to care. It was a comfortable silence. They had to navigate between the moving students, the younger years looking relaxed, the older years looking frantic and stressed. It had barely been two months into the term and already people were breaking down from stress.

Once Hermione brought Dani outside of Dumbledore's office, she said goodbye before disappearing off to the library. Dani look a deep breath, glancing around. She assumed she'd just say the password and something would happen. She just didn't know what.

"Fizzing Whizbees," she proclaimed.

The gargoyle jumped to the side to reveal a staircase. Shrugging, Dani stepped onto it, about to walk up only to feel it moving for her. She was amazed, and grateful she could save some energy. She saw a giant door in front of her and she knocked on it, hoping Professor Dumbledore was inside.

"Come in," said a voice from inside, sounding calm.

Dani opened the door cautiously, before shutting it gently and sitting in front on the headmaster's desk. He had his back to her, as if he had been conversing with the many portraits on the wall. Dani ignored them glancing down at her, deciding they weren't worth her attention.

"Ah, Miss McCord. How can I help you?"

"I have a liquid that neither Hermione nor Professor Slughorn could create. I was wondering if you'd ever heard of the potion I'm about to describe to you."

"Explain away."

"Well I took this clear liquid from this vial," she withdrew the vial to show him. "Which teleported me, and three other girls to an alternative universe."

"That's very interesting. Certainly peculiar."

"Do you know about it, professor?"

"I can't say I do."

Dani's face fell. "I was wondering if I could go home? I know it's barely back into school time, but I really need to get to the bottom of them."

"Certainly. You may floo from the fireplace right over there." He gestured to the fireplace right behind Dani.

"Thank you professor. I will return when this is all over."

"Good luck Dani," he responded, smiling warmly at her. She smiled back.

Dani took some of the powder from Professor Dumbledore before walking over to the fireplace. She clearly stated where she wanted to go, before stepping inside the fireplace, closing her eyes tightly shut.

Dani was more than relieved to see her living room before her, still as messy as she'd remembered it. For once in her life, she was more than grateful she'd forced her parents to keep the ancient fireplace in their old Victorian house. She carefully trod around the room, clutching the vial in her left hand. She crept upstairs and into her bedroom, instantly turning on her mobile phone.

She had to wait a few moments before the screen lit up. As she waited, she glanced around her room, biting her lips at the countless memories she'd had in the room. Once her phone was ready, she quickly typed in the number and called it, hoping this wasn't some sick joke.

"Hello?" answered Sam's voice after the third ring.

"Hello. It's Dani."

"Dani! I'm assuming your home now. Have you got good news?"

"Not entirely." Sam groaned. "We're missing a few key ingredients."

"Hm. Right. I'm sending Alex over now to collect you. Don't question what you see. Just…go along with it."

"Okay?"

"Great! See you extremely soon. Bye!"

Before Dani could say goodbye back, Sam had hung up. Slightly miffed, she hung up, deciding to pack everything she needed into a small suitcase. This time, she wasn't prepared to risk using magic in a muggle setting, nor did she intend on packing much.

Once she'd finished packing, she went downstairs with her suitcase, waiting for Alex to knock at her door. She was more than a little surprised when a large blue box appeared in her hallway, making a loud whining noise. She jerked alert, standing up and cautiously approaching the doorway. She glanced at the box and her eyes widened, wondering how she was going to explain this.

Alex stepped outside and glanced around before she noticed Dani. A man with gelled hair, brown eyes, a brown tweed blazer and a bow tie followed her, grinning kindly.

"Dani!" exclaimed Alex as she pulled her into a hug.

"Alex, what is this?" asked Dani once they'd stopped hugging.

"This is the TARDIS," answered the Doctor. "And I'm the Doctor."

"Doctor who?" asked Dani.

"He's just the Doctor," replied Alex. "Now, let's get you to New York."

"What's in New York?"

"You'll see."

Alex grabbed Dani's suitcase for her and dumped it inside. Dani followed the Doctor and Alex, before gazing around in wonder. "It's bigger on the inside!" she exclaimed.

The Doctor's face lit up with glee. "I love when they say that!"

"Dani, hold onto something. This can be quite a rocky ride."

"Hey! My driving isn't that bad!" protested the Doctor.

"I'm not saying that. It's just sometimes, your TARDIS malfunctions whenever something goes wrong. We don't know if it won't."

"Right. Well, off we go then!"

A/N

The surname McBroad is a mash up of mine and my cousin's surnames together, so that was fun to include :P

Sorry that this was a filler chapter. I needed to get about Dani and the potion over and done with. In case I haven't mentioned it before, Harry Potter is set in the modern day, so I'm actually breaking canon. But it's important for this story to do so.

Also, the Doctor I'm using is Matt Smith's Doctor rather than Peter Capaldi's Doctor, since I don't know anything about him yet. I have no idea what his Doctor will be like, and by the time the season is on, I'll already be into the plot, if not done.

Please be patient with me. I realise this took a long time to post, and for that, I apologise. But since it is the summer holidays, I will be going away a fair amount. I do want to finish the story though, especially by the new series of Supernatural. So here's to hoping I will!
