"Be careful today." She whispered to him as he got up and got dressed. She forced herself out of bed with a big stretch and yawn. When he was finished he presented himself to her and she stood to make sure not even a speck of dust was on his suit. He, out of habit leaned his face down for her to kiss his cheek, before grabbing his brief case and taking a deep breath, looking at her rounded womb. Takahiro burst through in, having been listening at the door and waiting for the right time for his father to finish getting ready. He hugged Byakuya's legs and then ran to jump on the bed. Hisana tried to contain his energy by speaking to him soothingly. Byakuya watched the scene with contentedness then looked down at his watch.

"I must go now if I'm going to be on time in rush hour," Hisana turned back to him as Takahiro complied with his mother and sat on the bed.

"Good luck," They both chimed with their own unique smiles.

"All rise." The courtroom stood up with the exception of the judge. "Department one of the Superior Court is now in session. Judge Genryusai presiding. Please be seated."

Judge Genryusai Yamamoto addressed the courtroom with a greeting before getting on with the case at hand.

"Calling to this room the case of the murder of Kaien Shiba. Are both sides ready?" The District Attorney that was working for the Shiba family to maintain Kaien's assets and preserve his honor, one Ichigo Kurosaki, stood and said,

"Ready for the people, Your honor. Your honor and ladies and gentlemen of the jury: the defendant has been charged with the first degree murder of Kaien Shiba. The evidence will show that the defendant's fingerprints were on the gun used to shoot Kaien Shiba in the abdomen. The evidence I present will prove to you that the defendant is guilty as charged." Judge Genryusai looked over at the defendant, Rukia, sitting in her orange prison jumpsuit. He then looked at her Public Defender and nodded.

Byakuya rose from his seat.

"Ready for the defense, Your Honor. Your honor and ladies and gentleman of the jury: under the law my client is presumed innocent until proven guilty. During this trial, you will hear no real evidence against my client. You will come to know the truth: that Rukia was forced into a position of self-defense. After being threatened by Mr. Shiba, Rukia did the only logical thing to protect herself. Therefore, my client is not guilty." He looked down at Rukia who looked up at him with tears of gratitude in her eyes. He returned the look for, after getting her to talk in a classified setting, he knew why she had done it. She'd done it to protect his son and for that, he was forever in her debt.

Author's Note: The End...

I really can't apologize enough for how long this took. In a nutshell, I had a relationship that consumed most of my waking time but it ended so I feel free to write. If you're upset with the ending, it's because when I wrote this, I had also written a sequel. I'm not sure if I'm going to post the sequel, though. I want to thank each and every reader who followed this story from the beginning or just for a really long time in hopeful anticipation. Your support meant and means the world to me. Feel free to check out my other ByaHisa fics!

Xoxo
