Ok, first off, I'M SO FRICKIN' SORRY FOR THE LONG WAIT! I didn't mean that to happen. There are a lot of reasons why I didn't update but in reality it is my fault. One of the reasons I am going to say it that I didn't know how to write this chapter.
I'll try to never let that happen again. I just had huge writer's block and that's a drag. But don't worry! I will continue with the story and its other seasons.
Second, the upcoming chapters will be coming in more slowly than before but like I said before, I won't let the story go for over three months.
Good news is that a found the gargoyles episodes on YouTube. Oh and thanks to the person who suggested a website to watch the episodes. It helped.
I hope you like this chapter.
At the top of the Police Station, seven gargoyles reside instone in the day. Their stone faces can't express what kind of dreams they are having, but one gargoyle dreams and old memory.
Hudson glides town from the castle's tower and lands in the balcony of a young Princess Katherine. At the moment, the King tucks his niece into bed. Hudson smiles at the scene but knows that some important matter should be discussed immediately.
"Your Highness, may I speak with you?" Hudson stands in the balcony doorway and cloaks his wings as to not frighten the girl.
"Of course," the King steps outside into the balcony with the leader of the gargoyles. "This I take it is about the Archmage."
"Aye, I'm sure banishment was enough to end his threat," the old leader says with slight worry.
"He tried to use magic to take my throne. Let him dare to return and I will-"
"You will die!" the King is cut off by the Archmage standing on the balcony. The gargoyle and King are surprised by his sudden appearance.
Hudson stands in front of the King and extends his wings, getting into a fighting stance. The Archmage though shoots lighting at the gargoyle. Hudson grabs the King and get out its path and crawl on the floor. The lightning hits a plant vase and destroys it to millions of pieces.
"You think you could banish me?" the Archmage asks in a mockery tone. "I am not easily disposable. Fulminous Venite!" the Archmage shoots out another lighting strike to Hudson. Hudson takes the hit and gets knocked out several feet away from the King.
The Archmage takes the chance at the exposed King and shoots a poison dart from his staff. Hudson sees the poison dart and tries to take the hit but it's useless. The dart hits at the King's chest. The Archmage laughs, proud of his plan, and leaves in a sudden flash of lightning.
Hudson waits in case the Archmage returns. When he does not, Hudson turns around to attend the King but he sees Princess Katherine already at his side. Hudson goes to the King's side. The Princess notices him and hits him in his chest with her small hands. "Get away from him, you!"
Hudson, feeling powerful guilt course through him, stands and looks down at the King in sorrow.
All of the gargoyles shed their day skin-stone. The four young members of the clan get together and walk joyfully into the clock tower. Bronx runs in behind them and a clash can be heard inside and a few groans. Goliath chuckles at what may have happened inside and makes his way to the door. He stops when he notices his old mentor with a faraway look.
"Are you alright, Hudson?"
Hudson takes a moment to register the question and to think of a good response as to not worry his leader. "Just dreaming old dreams."
"Come," Goliath says. He has an idea as to what may be bothering Hudson but there isn't anything he can do. As the two gargoyles reach the doorway, they hear Alex shout in annoyance. Inside, they see that their friend has been turned to her human form.
"Seriously," Alex huffs in annoyance and crosses her arms in front of her chest. Brooklyn laughs and wraps an arm around her shoulder. Bronx pants excitedly and jumps off Broadway and Lexington, who groan.
For the beginning of the night, the gargoyles stay inside the clock tower since nothing interesting is going on and everything seems calm. Hudson though is bothered by his old memory dream. He remembers everything of what happened before. The time when he was a leader, when the clan was protecting the humans at castle, and when Prince Malcom nearly met Death. He shakes the memories away and relaxes in his recliner chair.
The trap door opens and Elisa's head pops up. She walks to the clan and talks very frantically and fast.
"Elisa, calm down, please," Goliath places his claws and her shoulders to stop her. Elisa takes in a deep breath and lets it out slowly. After a moment, she opens her mouth to speak again but slower.
"Demona came to my apartment a few minutes ago," this catches the gargoyles off guard. After they are able to find their voices from the shock, they pour questions on Elisa.
"Are you alright?"
"Did she threaten you?"
"Are you wounded?"
Elisa raises her hands to calm them down. She gives them a smiles showing that she is alright. They take the hint and close their mouths to let Elisa explain further.
"All she did was crash in and shoot me with a poisonous dart."
Before the gargoyles can bomb her with any more questions, she speaks up.
"But I was lucky my badge stopped the dart from actually spiking my skin," she says as she pulls out her badge from her red jacket. The gargoyles, especially Goliath, seem more relieved, but they are still tense.
"What's Demona's game this time?" Alex mumbles bitterly, remembering the last encounter they've had. Though the clan had forgiven her trusting Demona, Alex still blames herself for the near destruction of two gargoyles. She still is peeved that she got fooled by the 'sweet and loving' voice of Demona's.
Brooklyn has trust issues with Demona too, but not as much as Alex. Yes, he put them in serious magic danger but his anger towards Demona isn't much as Alex's. "We have to go after her," Brooklyn says sternly.
"Knowing Demona, there is more of a plan than what we can see," Goliath places a claw under his chin and thinks. Demona is cunning and has a plan up her sleeve. Her plan either consists of revenge against them or some sort of trickery of lies or both. Observing his options, Goliath takes a deep breath and settles down with a plan. "We will go after Demona."
"What! But I'm perfectly fine! You don't have to go!" Elisa acts up and frantically stands in front of Goliath to try and stop him. Though she may be small compared to his height, she can throw a good fight.
"But Goliath must go, lass," Hudson places a claw on her small shoulder frame. Elisa takes a step back and turns to Hudson for an explanation. "If he does not go, Demona will know her plan failed and will try again," he slowly explains. The whole time he has been silent, Hudson has been thinking of possible strategies to use in this situation. Though he is not the leader anymore, he is the mentor and is always there to help Goliath in any sticky situation.
"Broadway, Lexington, take Elisa home and guard her 'till be come back," He orders to the glutton gargoyle and small gargoyle. Elisa wants to say no but she gives in, knowing Goliath won't listen to her. "Brooklyn, Alex and Bronx will stay here and guard the tower," Before either Brooklyn or Alex and reject his order, Goliath speaks again. "Hudson and I will go after Demona."
"Goliath let us help hunt for Demona too!"
"We still owe her a piece of our minds!"
Brooklyn and Alex exclaim. Goliath calmly shakes his head at the two. "If you have not noticed, Alex, you are human," Alex looks down at her hands at Goliath's words and growl, balling her hands into fists. "Brooklyn, protect her and the tower." Brooklyn sighs but complies with his command.
Bronx nudges his head against Alex's leg. Alex clam down a little bit, anger still showing in her purple eyes, but she pets Bronx's head softly. With a swift nod, the clan dispatches to their posts. Goliath and Hudson go out to the balcony and catch the current wind with their wings. The others stand on the balcony and watch as the older ones leave.
"Guess we better get going too," Broadway chimes. Lexington and Elisa nods at his direction.
"See you guys later," Elisa smiles to Brooklyn and Alex. Her figure disappears own the trap doors stairs.
Lexington and Broadway only waits a few minutes before the glide off, following Elisa's red car. Alex watches as they leave with and indifferent look. She looks down at her five-fingered hand and balls it up into a fist. Brooklyn places his red claw over her fist and smiles softly.
"C'mon, let's get out of the cold," he wraps a wing over Alex's shoulder and guides her inside with Bronx trailing behind them.
With Goliath and Hudson
"Maybe you should have brought the others," Hudson says quietly. Though he knows Alex can't come to help fight Demona, Brooklyn could make the numbers of strength on their side stronger. He doubts Goliath, a strong and fearless leader, and himself, and old gargoyle with any strength, is enough to take Demona down.
"Maybe…but Alex is holding a deeper grudge than she shows. And I feel Brooklyn will let the past get to him during battle," Goliaths says. "I need someone I can rely on."
They glide a few minutes more in silence and land on top of a rooftop ledge. Their eyes scan the place for any signs of Demona. Hudson notices some claw marks on the roof and kneels down to get a better close at it. "She was here within the last few minutes."
Lightning strikes the sky as dark clouds form on the horizon. The wind current changes from a soft breeze, from earlier of the night, to a strong wind current, which blows the leaves and candy wrappers high into the air. A shadowed figure glides down from the dark horizon and lands on top of a chimney on the rooftop.
Hudson and Goliath look up and gasp as they see Demona. With speed, they rush to take cover as Demona drops down on one knee and aims her laser gun. Hudson manages to drop down from the level of the rooftop. Goliath, though, isn't lucky. Demona shoots him a laser beam. Goliath rolls, barely missing the shot.
The ex-couple stare each other down, Goliath frowning while Demona grins. She readies her aim dead center on Goliath. Goliath stands his ground and waits for the shot.
Hudson gets up from his cover and notices the two. "No!" He tries to intertwine between the two but Demona shots. The laser beam hits Goliath, throwing him to the chimney. The chimney shatters at the forceful impact and crumbles on top of Goliath.
Hudson stands protectively in front of Goliath and takes out his word. Demona underestimates her opponent and gets the laser gun ready. She fires just as lightning strikes behind her. Hudson acts on instincts and raises his word to cover him from the laser shot. The laser bounces off the metal sword and changes course for Demona.
Demona is surprised as the laser hits her side, causing her to go off balance and drop from the rooftop. She uses one of her claws to stop her fall while the other one grabs unto the laser gun which she almost dropped.
Hudson doesn't wait for any sign of Demona surviving and goes to Goliath's side. He drapes one of Goliath's arms over his shoulder and lifts his wounded leader up. Hudson tries to find a way to get away from Demona. Speaking of Demona, she climbs up the wall and growls angrily.
At the clock tower
Alex paces back and forth in the clock tower, worried about the two older gargoyles. It's a bad habit she picked up from her dad when he gets worried over his family. Sunrise is near in a few hours and Goliath and Hudson don't see to be coming back. She continues to pace back and forth, making Bronx dizzy from watching her.
Brooklyn sighs and stands up. He places his claws on her shoulders making Alex stop to give him a confusing look. "Stop worrying. They'll be fine," he smiles to lighten her up.
Alex smiles but her smile quickly drops to a frown. "But Demona is ruthless. She'll kill them the chance she gets," Bronx whines at the words of Alex and hides his heads between his paws. "Sorry Bronx," Alex bits her bottom lip to keep her mouth shut.
Brooklyn shakes the awful thought of either of them gone forever and squeezes Alex's shoulders reassuringly. "Everything'll be fine. They've been in tougher situations."
"Like what?" Alex retorts. She knows a thousand years ago everything was savage but that doesn't mean this era is any safer. Unlike Demona, Goliath and Hudson are still getting used to their surroundings while Demona lived through the changes. Alex knows they can take of themselves but against Demona, the odds are unpredictable.
"Um…" Brooklyn takes one of his claws from Alex's shoulders and scratches the back of his white mane. "Oh, one time, while Hudson was still our leader, he, Goliath and Demona had to go on a mission and face the Archmage."
"Archmage? Who is that?" Alex questions him. Brooklyn leads Alex to sit down on stone and her sits next to her. Bronx walks over to them and drops down near their feet.
"He was an evil wizard. I remember a few details about the mission the older gargoyles had. Something about the prince…"
A young version of Lexington rides on top of a much smaller and skinner Bronx who runs around the Rookery. The small green gargoyle laughs loudly at the piggy ride. The blue guard dog barks loudly with a smile on his face.
"Me next! Me next!" a small, aqua gargoyle with a bit of a stomach jumps up and down. The guard dog barks once more and abruptly stops next to the aqua gargoyle, making the webbed gargoyle fly and land on a small, red gargoyle.
"Oof!"
"Sorry."
The green one helps his rookery brother up. The red one dusts himself off and looks to his rookery brother. "Just be careful where you land," he says as he sits down and drops his small beak on one of his claws.
"Bored?" the aqua one asks his red rookery brother.
"Always!" the red one exclaims by spreading his arms and wings in the air. He falls back to land on his tail and back and stays sprawled out. He closes his eyes and stays perfectly still as if he were dead. The aqua rolls his eyes at his brother while the green one and the guard dog go to the red one's sides.
The guard dog sniffs the red one while the green one pokes his brother with his tail. Without a warning, the red one jumps up. "Boo!"
"Aah!" the green one jumps as well and covers behind the guard dog. The guard dog stands firmly and growls at the red one.
The red one drops back down to the floor and sighs. He has done that trick to those two for a long time. They always fall for it. In the beginning it was fun to watch them get all scared but now, it's boring. "There's nothing to do," he moans loudly.
"Keep it down or you'll crack the eggs," the aqua one warns him. The red one huffs and crosses his small arms over his chest.
These three younglings are the first of the generation to be hatched. They hatched sooner than expected but the clan was happy for their lives, nonetheless. The female of the clan took turns watching over them and teaching them. They even had the guard dog watch over them when none of the female gargoyles were there with them. The three were so curious of everything and wanted to explore. They learned quickly what they were taught and waited until the time would come for them to be allowed outside. But the red one was the most eager one.
"I want to go out!" the red one exclaims as he makes his way to the doors. The aqua panics and gets in front of the red one to stop in right on his tracks.
"You can't go up," he holds his claws to halt his younger rookery brother. He remembers well the last time his rookery brother tried to go out. The red one almost succeeded in going out of the rookery prison. Everything was going so well but the red one was caught at the doors by the leader of the clan. Each one of them got a long lecture, escapially the red one who got a longer lecture. But it seems even with that lecture, it won't stop the red one from wanting to go out.
"Don't you want to go out and explore? See the world?" the red one exclaims happily.
"We're not allowed," the aqua one drones in, crushing the red one's dreams.
"I'm going out," the red one says after a moment and walks past his older brother. The aqua and the green one look at each other as if communicating. The green one shrugs his shoulders and follows his older rookery brother out the door with the guard dog behind him. The aqua sighs in defeat and follows them out the doors.
The doors open slightly and four gargoyle heads pop out form the cracks. They wait a few minutes to make sure no one is near them. When the coast is clear, they walk quietly yet fast out of the Rookery. The young gargoyles constantly hide behind walls and pillars whenever a gargoyle or a human is in their sights.
"So that's how a human looks like," the green one says with big eyes. He gets out of his hiding place to see where the human is going but an aqua claws drags him back.
"Do you want to get lectured by the leader and our rookery mothers again?" the aqua one asks.
"I was just looking," the green one retorts and glares at his older rookery brother. The aqua one dismisses his younger rookery brother.
"Get back over here," the red one pulls both of his rookery brothers behind the pillar as three humans walk up the hallway.
The first human is a young girl in her child years. She has chestnut hair and a fair body for someone her age and class. She wears a golden tiara on her forehead with a light lavender nightgown and a purple cloak around her shoulders. The young princess pulls on the hands of a servant woman who has no choice but to follow the princess. The last human is a slightly older boy. The boy has white hair even though he is young. His features are sharp and he wears a white sorcerers robe.
"Come, you must hurry!" the princess says with determination in her voice and young face. She takes them down the hall and makes a sharp turn, disappearing from the rookery gargoyles and guard dog's view.
"Humans move a lot when it's night," the green one speaks his thoughts loudly. His older rookery brothers nod in agreement since they've always heard from their rookery mothers that humans sleep at night.
The young trio and guard dog move away from their hiding spot from the pillar and explore the inside of the castle; the guard dog keeping his eyes on them and acting as a tour guide to show them the way. While they explore, they are careful that no other humans come into view. Luckily, no humans cross their paths. Having enough with adventure in the castle, they head up a set of stairs that the guard dog brought them to. Once they reach the top, the four peek their head up and try to spot for any humans or gargoyles. When they see no one, the three young gargoyles jump from the staircases and look around the tower.
The aqua one walks to the edge of the tower and looks over the stone wall. Since he is small, he goes on his tipi-toes to get a better view. From the view, he can see the horizon where the sea and the night sky meet. He gawks at the beautiful scene of the stars shining brightly in the sky and reflecting on the water. Maybe going out of the Rookery was a good idea after all.
While the oldest of the three gargoyles looks at the see and stars, the green one goes opposite. He is the smallest of the three so the guard dog let the small on step on his back. With the help of the guard dog, the wing-webbed gargoyle is able to see over the ledge and looks at the scene before him. Over on the horizon, he can see the starts glimmering in the night sky and the edge of a forest. When he looks down, he sees a few humans, probably warriors on night duty, walking about in the castle grounds or on lower ledges. The green gargoyle smiles widely, glad that they are stuck in the Rookery.
With his rookery brothers occupied, the beaked gargoyles heads to the side of the tower and places his small claws on the ledge. He really isn't interested on the kingdom much; something else catches his attention. He looks up and sees the beautiful, dark navy sky with its twinkling stars. It's a new world out here than in the Rookery. In the Rookery there is a rock hard ceiling that limits your space. Out here, there are no such things as limits. With a wide smile on his face, the young red gargoyle jumps to stand on the ledge and spreads his wings behind him. He can feel the slow wind current pass by his hair and wings and the wind current changing from slow to a much faster breeze.
The youngest of the three gargoyles spots a few gargoyles that he knows. He stands on his tip-toes on the guard dog's back to see the gargoyles better. A lavender gargoyle, a brown gargoyle and two blue gargoyles are in a chat. The brown one excuses herself and leaves. The male blue gargoyle watches her go with a loving face. Then the three gargoyles leave after a few minutes. The two male gargoyles head somewhere else while the blue female heads towards the tower. "Um…brothers..?"
The aqua walks up to his side. "What is it?" He then looks over the ledge and sees the blue female gargoyle heading their way. "Uh oh."
The guard dog moves under the green one's feet, making him fall, and places his front paws on the ledge. He looks down and spots the blue gargoyle. He whines loudly and pushes the green and aqua gargoyle to the stairs, telling them to go back.
"Wait, what about…?" the green one speaks up. Their heads snap in the direction of the red one and just in time to see him jump off the ledge and in midair. Worry courses through them.
The red one's smile grows even bigger than it was before as he glides in circles around the tower. He laughs loudly, enjoying the freedom. He waves to his rookery brothers down below who in return wave him to come back down. Thinking they are worried he will fall, he dismisses them and glides up even higher. The red one looks up at the night sky and sees the stars. He lifts one arm up and reaches for the stars that seem to close.
He continues to glide for a few minutes more before a cramp develops on his right wing. He tries to keep himself from curling the wing in but the cramps pains him. More cramps appear and some start to pain him on the left wing. He is high up in the air and far away from the tower but tries to make it close. His wings hurt and without warning, he curls up his wings, plunging him down.
His rookery brothers down below want to scream but can't as they see their brother fall. The guard dog barks loudly in every direction, hoping someone will hear him. A figure passes by them, surprising them, and jumps off the tower. The figure spreads its wings and goes for the red youngling. It catches the red one and heads back down to the other three.
Now they can tell who the savior of their rookery brother is. It is the blue female gargoyle with bright, fire hair. She gently places the red youngling on the ground but still holds him by the shoulders. The red one tightens on his wings curled on his back. "Flex your wings gently," she softly says.
He looks up to her with a pained expression but does as he is told. He slowly uncurls his wings and curls them up again until uncurling them. He does that a few more times before feeling the cramps go away. He stretches his wings with free movement before resting them. "Thank you," he smiles gratefully at her. She smiles softly back.
She still kneels in front of them and gives a disappointed look. "I am glad you are safe, but what are doing out here? It is not safe," she says with a strict yet soft voice. The three gargoyles rub their arms or hands nervously.
"I just wanted to have a little fun," the red one speaks up, since it is his fault. "I convinced them to go with me outside," he looks down and shuffles his feet.
The female gargoyle smiles softly, showing him it's alright. "At least known of you got hurt," she looks to all three of the youngling. Her eyes spot on the guard dog. The guard dog meets her eyes and understands what she is trying to say to him. "Now it is time to get you back to the Rookery," her statement makes the three groan. They don't want to go back; they want to explore the castle some more and learn new things. She smiles at their energy of adventure but takes them back.
They have to pass through the castle's walls to get down, since they three don't know how to glide properly and she can't carry all four of them. She stops the younglings and peers over a wall, checking for any sight of human or gargoyle. No one needs to know that the younglings left their nest. Even though she knows, she can relate to their thirst for excitement.
She holds her claw up, as motion to stop them. Human nurses scurry down the hall in a hurry, murmuring and carrying towels, buckets of water and other things. The nurses are too busy to pay attention to their surroundings so they do not notice the gargoyles.
The small gargoyle sees the nurses leaving and thinks of his earlier image of humans. "What is wrong with the prince?" he asks, remembering the humans in hectic.
"He is sick," she puts it simply. The three young gargoyles look at each other. If he is sick, then why is everybody so worried? They look up to her for a better explanation. "The prince is very sick. He may not be able to get better," she avoids the certain details of poison and death. With that explanation, the trio understands the situation a bit more and are actually worried if the prince will be alright.
They continue to make their way out of the castle and into the castle's grounds. Quietly, they reach the doors to the Rookery. They enter and before the female gargoyle can leave the youngling, the red one grabs a hold of her wing. She turns around with a questionable look.
"Will the prince get better?" he looks at her with big, brown eyes full with worry and curiosity. She kneels down in front of him and gives him a soft smile.
"Don't worry. A few of us are going to look for a cure," she softly says to him. "Everything will be alright."
"Will you tell me if the prince is alright later?" he asks. She nods and stands up to leave. She heads out, leaving the younglings to roam in the Rookery.
"Oh," is all Alex says after hearing Brooklyn. She got hints from the story that Brooklyn and Demona developed a mother-son relationship. Alex also got another detail from the story Brooklyn told her. "So you were a troublemaker before," she smirks.
"Hey, I had nothing to do in that stone nest," Brooklyn defends his actions as a youngling. And he is right; there was nothing to do there but to look at the moss growing there and the eggs.
Alex grows quiet, her mind still racing about Goliath and Hudson. Though her mind races, she is curious about the ending of Brooklyn's story. "Did the prince survive?"
Brooklyn is taken back by her question but answers her. "It was a long and hard battle. They almost didn't make it, but the odds were in their favor," he sits closer to Alex and wraps a wing around her to comfort her. "Don't worry. They'll come back."
In the sewers
Hudson makes his way through the sewers with an injured Goliath leaning on his shoulder. He had just escaped from Demona who used the laser gun to wrecks a building full of theater crops. It was a last minute resort to escape by the sewers where they can't use their wings. "We'll make it through this night, lad. Never fear. You're a tough one. I always knew that," Hudson gives words of encouragement to Goliath who looks weaker by the minute. "Oi, remember the search for the Archmage? Now that quest took force."
Dark clouds form in the sky as a younger version of Hudson, Goliath and Demona land in a desert like part of the forest. The brown colored gargoyle of the three, the leader, kneels down on the path and inspects the tracks of a horse. He uses his tracking skills to tracks the Archmage. Behind him, the two young lovers talk.
"You're younger, stronger. He should be you," the blue female gargoyle says to the lavender one.
The lavender one holds both of her claws and speak to her in a deep, loving voice. "You are wrong, my love. He is the best one to lead us. In any event, now is not the time to argue the point," he says and leaves her to follow the leader.
She shakes her head and follows them both to a valley of rocks. They stand on one of the rock walls that overlooks the valley. The mouth of a cave is spotted and the gargoyles look at each other. The Archmage has one there.
The leader goes down the rock but doesn't go for the cave. Instead she walks around the valley. In a matter of minutes, he comes back with a torn branch and a dried up leaf. He wraps the leaf around the end of the branch. Then picks up two rocks on the group and clashes them together. Sparks crackle and fall on the dry leaf, making a hand-made torch.
"We'll be going underground," he advices his two members. They cloak their wings and enter the cave that seems to have no end. While walking, the cave makes them turns twisted corners like in an endless maze.
"Our wings will be useless in here," the blue gargoyle says. "And this Archamge has powerful magic," she continues the list of the odds against them. Her negative attitude to get the book and save the prince makes the leader snap at her.
"I did not come this far to give up now," he says, controlling the anger from snapping at her. "I will not fail the prince again," he states determinedly.
"And I won't let him do this alone," the lavender gargoyle speaks up. His lover stops, taken back by their determined stupidity.
"I don't know who is the bigger fool; him for going, you for following or me for not leaving you both," she harshly whispers but continues to follow them deeper into the cave. The deeper they walk, the more the cave gets bigger. The walls get smoother and pictures present themselves.
As they walk, the cave turns from a normal looking cave to ruins of magic. Cautiously, they look at the images marked on the walls and wonder what they tell. The red head touches the marks as she walks by, feeling the details and looking at the images carefully.
"What do you suppose this all means?" she wonders out loud while still feeling the marks. Hey eyes and claws stop on a certain image, making her gasp out loud. The other stop to see what is wrong. They meet with an image of a human sorcerer stabbing a gargoyle with a staff. Fear strikes them at the thought of dying in the hands of a cruel human sorcerer. They had no guarantee of home earlier and this just drops their hopes.
Taking a deep breath, the leader walks on determinedly followed by his two best warriors. They reach what seems to be the end of the cave-maze. Across from them, past the huge cracks on the stone floor, is a giant skull base. Outside of that hideout is the Archmage with the Grimorum. "There!" he shouts.
"Fulminous Venite!" the Archmage lifts the book over his head and drops if back down only to shot an electric energy at the gargoyles. The gargoyles jump out of the way, the shot of lightning hitting the rocks hanging on the ceiling.
The leader drops the torch making the cave a bit darker but light still illuminates from the eerily skull. He runs to a pillar of molded stone. "We've come for the Grimorum," he states.
The Archmage ignores the leader and throws another shot of lightning. "Fulminous Venite!"
Thee brown gargoyle isn't ready to take the blow and is lucky the lightning hits the pillar of rock. The force is too great, destroying the pillar of rock and shattering it, sending the old gargoyle a few feet back. Some rocks hit him, paining him more than usual for someone his age.
The Archmage grins evilly, thinking he has won victory but a female growl tells him otherwise. The old human turns in the direction of the other two beasts and blasts them.
The lavender gargoyle sidesteps the blue power but it knocks his lover back. The lavender gargoyle's eyes glow white in anger and he jumps over a giant crack on the floor heading to the human sorcerer. He dodges another blue blast and uses his wings to maneuver around the Archmage and tackle him. The Archamge is set off balance, losing his grip on the book which tumbles to a crack. The lavender gargoyle notices the missing book in the human's hands and goes for the book that falls through the crack.
There is not enough wing-span to use his wings so when the gargoyle catches the book, he uses his claws to dig on the side of the walls and crawls back up. Up on top, his blue gargoyle lover kneels down and helps him up. He shows her the book he managed to catch and smiles at her lovingly, both of them ready to head back home and save the prince.
"You filthy beast! Give that to me!" the Archmage runs towards them with a spiked rock. The female gargoyle pushes her lover and herself to the side. The Archamge can't stop his speed and runs right into the crack.
The gargoyles watch as the human sorcerer plunges to his death and a loud thump is heard after a few seconds. They stare down at the crack before going to their leader who groans sorely.
"Good work, you two," he praises them tirely while rubbing his forehead, covering his eyes.
"Don't talk, save your strength," the blue gargoyle softly advices, glad none of them got hurt, or worse, killed.
The leader takes his claw off his face and the lovers can see one of his eyes scratched with a yellow color. The lovers look at him with shock. The leader grumbles under their looks. "What is it?"
They do not respond to him immediately. Not wanting to waste any time, the leader gets up and takes the book from his second-in-command. "We must hurry. Prince Malcom hasn't much time," he orders.
The way back to the castle is calm and swift. They reach the castle in a matter of minutes with an hour to spare before sunrise. The three part their ways the moment they land on the tower. The leader heads for the Prince's room, the lavender gargoyle goes down to a ledge where his blue rookery brother stands guard and the blue female gargoyle glides down to the rookery.
She opens the door and walks to the end of the Rookery where the eggs, three young gargoyles and a guard dog reside. She looks at them live a mother watching her children play and smiles. The red gargoyle notices her and runs to her. She kneels down and gives him a light hug.
"You came back! Is the prince alright? Was there a fight?" the red, beaked gargoyle asks, jumping up and down. His rookery brothers and the guard dog walk to his side, wanting to hear what happened.
The female gargoyle laughs at his high spirits and places her claws on his shoulders to keep him still. "Yes, young one. The prince is now better," she smiles softly as the young trio smiles at each other.
"Did you have to fight?" the green one repeats the last question from his rookery brother with a squeak.
"There was one but that will be told another time," she rubs his cheek in a motherly way. The red one pouts at the answer but gives up. "It is time to get ready to sleep," she instructs them and sees everything is in place in the Rookery before she leaves and heads to find her lover.
"The antidote has worked! You will recover," the young Magus tells the prince who is regaining his strength bit by bit.
"Thank the stars you were able to bring the Grimorum in time," the prince says gratefully and holds his hand out.
The old, brown gargoyle by his side takes his small hand into his claws. "It wasn't only me, Prince Malcolm," he says at the thought of his two best warriors and his second-in-command. The gargoyle excuses himself and leaves the prince's chambers in searchfor the two warriors.
On the tower, the two lovers have a discussion that was put on hold.
"I'm just saying that the clan needs a young leader," the blue gargoyle persuades her mate to take charge.
"You're wrong," the lavender gargoyle states as he turns to look at her with a hard yet soft look.
"No."
They both turn to look behind themselves to see the old gargoyle with a sad and tired look.
"She is right. It is time for me step down and for you to lead," he looks at his second-in-command dead in the eyes.
"It was your skills that lead us to the Archmage. I cannot take command now," the younger gargoyle shakes his head.
"It's time, my friend," the brown gargoyle places a supporting claw on the lavender's shoulder.
Debating the situation at hand, the lavender gargoyle sighs and nods. "Very well. But only if you stay by my side. I will need you wisdom to guide me."
The old leader nods to the new leader of the clan. The leader's mate stands on the side. A smile forms on her lips as she watches the new leader take charge.
At a cemetery
Demona, Hudson and Goliath are on top of a roof of a building in the cemetery. Demona swings her gun at Hudson who defends Goliath with his sword. Goliath lies tiredly on the roof.
"I'm stronger, smarter and younger than you!" Demona shouts as she clashes gun and sword with Hudson. "Your pride will cost you your life!" she swings her gun at Hudson's hands, making the old gargoyle loose a grip on his sword and to fall back next to Goliath.
Hudson stands and covers Goliath from Demona. "But I know something you don't. Something that comes only with age," he states. Demona, who has her gun raised over her head to strike, blinks confusedly at him. "I know how to wait," the moment those words leave Hudson's mouth, the clouds formed in the sky clear showing the sun.
"No!" Demona growls and is frozen in place as the sun turns them to stone. Hudson is frozen in place, his form protecting Goliath from Demona and Goliath laid still.
At night, cracks appear on the stoned gargoyles. They awaken, shattering the stone skin. Goliath stands up with the help of his mentor and breathes deeply, rejuvenated.
"Now it ends," Demona coldly says as she swings her gun at them. Goliath catches the gun in mid swing and takes it out of Demona's claws.
"Yes. Now it ends," Goliath says with his deep voice and breaks the gun in half. He then throws the two pieces away and stands firmly.
"You've think you've won, but you've forgotten why you came," Demona speaks. "Your human friend. By now the poison has run its course," she slowly backs away from them. "And there is no antidote!" with those final words, she jumps off and glides away, letting a female roar ring in the air.
Goliath and Hudson watch her leave and smirk to themselves. "It's probably best she doesn't know Elisa is alive," Goliath says as he turns to look at his old friend.
"Aye, for as long as we can keep it a secret," Hudson says with a smile, knowing that secret won't be kept long because of a few loudmouths. "Now that we have faced Demona's wrath, we must go back to face another two females," Hudson jokes, remembering they left Alex and Elisa distressed on the situation.
"Ah yes, those two," Goliath makes a frown which then turns into a smile. "We better return quickly. Keeping females waiting is not a good choice," he laughs, Hudson joining him. Taking the wind current under their wings, they glide back home to face the two certain females who are worried sick and most likely angry.
