Chapter 12

Final Words

Kazuha gathered her things and left the hospital to return back to her friend's cottage. When she entered the living room of the cottage a maid asked her to follow her. She led her to the dining room where Sonoko was having quietly her breakfast. The rich girl without looking at the new comer asked her to sit and have breakfast too in a cold tone. Kazuha sat next to Sonoko and began eat too trying to ignore the cold aura which was coming from Sonoko. There was a long silence in the dining room and the only thing they could hear was the cutlery. At some point Sonoko left her cutlery to fall on her plate. The landing at the dish resonated throughout the room pulling the attention of all who were in the room. The girl nodded to her servants to leave the room closing the door behind them so she could be alone with her friend. Once the entire room was empty, Sonoko looked intensely at Kazuha. Kazuha touched the cutlery down too, and looked at her friend. After a few minutes Sonoko spoke icy.

"So... how was your night last night?" Kazuha looked at her and replied calmly.

"Good and quiet."

"There was nothing important?" the rich girl continued.

"Oh - no!" the pony tailed girl answered quickly.

"Your face says other things... come on... tell me, you did it, didn't you?" Sonoko's tone changed to a more cheerful one making Kazuha breath better and jump embarassed.

"What? But how do you know?"

"I didn't know... I just learned it. " the rich one laughed evilly. "You're easy to read, you know that?" she teased her pony tailed friend. "Come on, don't be mad!"Sonoko laughed.

"Well…how is Ran? I feel bad for not being here… because I had to be here too…" Kazuha's expression darkened and let her head fall slowly ashamed.

"She cried all day yesterday... but don't worry at all. ", the other girl said. "I think today she will be better.", she continued " But -"

* BAM *

The doors opened with force causing them to hit the wall behind them and an angry girl appeared behind them. Kazuha and Sonoko blinked for a few seconds but Sonoko woke up first.

"RA-RAAAANNNN... you scared me! Good morning!" Sonoko trimmed.

"Ran-chan!" said full of joy the other girl. "What are you doing? Good morning!"

"Ah! Yes... hello... Well… How did you do yesterday? How were the kids?" Ran sounded sleepy as she walked towards them slowly and yawning. The girl with the tail glared at her rich friend.

"Yes, Kazuha…. The little girl who was scared yesterday cause of the heavy rain?" Sonoko smiled nervously at Kazuha trying to make her play along. Kazuha got the meaning and went along quite easily. Ran believed her so she dropped the conversation very soon. Kazuha looked at her tired friend and felt really bad.

"Ran-chan. I am very sorry… really sorry... for being away last night when you needed me the most.. But I have some good news to make up for it!" Kazuha tried to cheer her friend up. Ran was interested so she waited to hear the news. Kazuha started to narrate everything she had heard that night at Kudo's room.

"Then, you mean that they aren't together? He told me more lies? It's OVER! OH GOD! I am SO finished with him! If he doesn't want me once, I don't want him ten! No! One hundred!" Ran screamed. Her two friends looked at her lost in her words. She got it completely different that they had thought.

'How?' they thought.

"But Ran! He didn't say that because he doesn't want you back but-" Kazuha tried to explained to her.

"I DON'T CARE ANYMORE! I am finished... I'll find someone else. There are so many guys at school! I'll find someone!" Ran exclaimed.

Kazuha and Sonoko couldn't believe in their ears. Is everything over for real?

"Well now that we are ok with that… we are going to celebrate it! Ne Kazuha? We are going out tonight!" Sonoko went along with Ran.

"Huh? Celebrate what?" Kazuha asked confused.

"But our freedom of course! Mine from Shinichi and yours from Heiji!" Ran continued happily.

"Um…. You know Ran… about that… I-"

"She is so happy that everything is over finally, ",Sonoko cut her, "that she can't wait to celebrate it! Ne? Kazuha–chan?" and looked at her evilly trying to shut her up.

"EEE….YEAH!" Kazuha responded without thinking and covered in fear.

"Nice! Then let's get ready! I am going first", Ran screamed and rushed out of the room.

Sonoko pulled Kazuha in the corner. "I will tell you two things. First don't ever but ever tell Ran about yesterday. I won't either. And second we are going to make Ran and Shinichi be together again. Ok? Now... call Heiji and tell him about our today's plans. And don't worry, we will be able to face the problems together."

"Ok", she smiled," I will call him!"

Heiji agreed too. So they arranged the place and the time and they went to get ready too.

Meanwhile at the hospital.

"KKUUUDDDOOOO! Ready to go pal?" Heiji screamed behind Shinchi's door after he finished talking to Kazuha and Sonoko.

"YESSS! HUH? Why do you ask?" he opened the door. "And why you have such a smile on your face? It's creepy man!"

"Huh? What? What are you talking about? Anyway pal... today we are going out! We are going to find new chicks!"

"No..." he cut him.

"WHY?" Heiji cried.

"I am not in the mood Hattori… go away!" he tried to close the door.

"Ok then! It's all settle! We are leaving! NOW!" Hattori screamed pushed the door open, grabed his friend and start running down the hall.

"TEME! Hattori! Let me go! Now!"

But it was too late. They had already reached the taxi on the street. They got inside and went to the club. Hattori was excited to see Kazuha again and Shinichi fall asleep in the taxi. After a half an hour he woke up screaming. Hattori looked at him surprised.

"um... we are here… look, I know you didn't want to come but you don't have to act like this!"

"Huh? What? No… no… let's go… sorry…" he apologized and shook his head to let his nightmare go. Seen all those dead bodies wasn't the best thing in the world right now.

At Sonoko's house.

"Ran! Let's go! We are gonna be late! I booked a table at the best club on the island! Come on!" Sonoko hissed as she was constantly looking at her watch. They were late.

Then Ran appeared with her hair down, black tight dress with split right and left at the top of her legs, with black heels and black earrings.

"Whoa!" her two girlfriends said."You're very sexy tonight! Let's go!"

The club was crowded, with loud music, drinks everywhere and dancers on stilts. They ended up at the bar, because they were late and lost their reservation. They ordered their drinks and observed the world dancing like crazy, up and down, moving their bodies according to the beat giving them by the Dj. They started commenting the world and mostly the drunk ones as they were the funniest ones because they didn't understand what they were doing and they were adorable. The girls managed to forget all their their problems, the boys, the lies, the pain from all those, when a group of young boys, at their age, approached them with smiles.

"Hello girls", said one of the three. "We have been looking at you from afar and we just couldn't take our eyes away from you... especially you." he turned to Ran. "Want to dance?" he asked her gently.

"Huh? Yeah sure!" Ran replied and followed him to the dance floor immediately.

The remaining four, stayed at the bar and watched them dancing. Then at some point the boys began to approach a little dangerously the girls. They managed to distance Sonoko and Kazuha from each other and led them away from each other. Sonoko's partner tend to drive Sonoko towards the back exit something she didn't like so she cried out loud enough so her bodyguards would come to her rescue, who they were undercover in the club with her. They took him and threw him out of the club in a few seconds without anyone noticing anything.

At the other end of the club, the other boy stuck Kazuha on the wall.

"Um... you're too close..." Kazuha said politely trying to push him away from her.

"Yes? What? You don't like it?" he asked her putting his one arm around her waist.

"No I don't-!" she couldn't continue her sentence as she felt a pair of lips above her. She got off guard by the kiss and let her guard down for a bit. He got the chance and cornered her even more. She tried to catch his hands to stop him but she couldn't move. 'That guy knows martial arts' she thought and she realized that she was in desperate situation. Suddenly she felt a shiver to penetrate her. He was touching her bare back with his hands making her feel disgusted. His touch was nothing to Heiji's touch. That guy was scaring her and making her feel insecure. One thing she could only think in this kind of situation.

Escape. Run. Leave!

She tried to escape, she tried to move around to shake him, she tried to move her head to stop the kiss but nothing worked. She closed her eyes and waited for the worst. The only thing she had left to do. And while getting ready to endure whatever was to come, the boy stopped the kiss and moved his head away from her. He did that to take a look at her desperate expression which made him laugh with pleasure before he screams in pain. She opened her eyes to see what happened. She saw him cluttered on the floor and another boy on top of him.

"Thank you..." she whispered to her savior before collapsing from the pressure and the shock.

At the same time the only one who was left with one of those was Ran who continued to dance without caring about anything and anyone. The truth was that she was really enjoying it! She didn't expect anything dangerous to happen. Once they got tired and they returned to their seats to rest and chat with their friends. But when they got back Ran couldn't see her friends anywhere started to worry. She looked left and right to see whether they are anywhere in the club, but they could be found nowhere.

"Why don't we go to look for them?" she asked the boy she was dancing with.

"Uh... I think they might be out... because my friend often feels dizzy and he goes out to get fresh air... let's go find them." he offered his hand with a charming smile. She nodded and left first ignoring his hand. They went out from the back door as they were closer to her. They came out to dark small road behind the club. No one was there but only a small lamp above the door, which was flashing. The scene was so much like those scenes from thrillers. The girl felt like a protagonist to a movie like that. She looked around and realized that it was weird for anyone to be out there and alone but before she could express her concerns to her partner she felt something hitting her hard from behind. She felt heavy on the floor. She heard a car coming towards them and someone shouting her name. After that, everything disappeared...

Hours later at Sonoko's house. (the next day)

Kazuha woke up first. She felt very tired. She jumped up and began to look around her to see where she was as she remembered what happened last night. Once she realized that she was at her friend's house she relaxed and fell back at the bed once again. She tried to recall all the events from last night so she could analyze them but instead she felt depressed and get herself at the edge of the bed.

"Why are you there?" she heard a voice and turned to find from where it came from. "Come here... I am not gonna hurt you." she heard again and located the source. She rushed over him and fall into his arms crying.

"Shhhoooouuu, everything is going to be ok, everything it's over… I am here with you... I won't go anywhere..." the voice said again.

"Sorry Heiji... I am sorry... I couldn't move... and he kissed me... and started to touch me... Sorry..."

"You don't need to apologize for anything my love... You were really brave there! " he said softly and embraced her harder. "It's not your fault. I had to come to you earlier. I shouldn't let anything to happen to you…. I am sorry Kazuha…"

"No... no- ", she kissed his lips. "It's not your fault... at least he took his lesson, ne?" she asked with hope looking with her big glassy eyes straight at his.

"Yeah, of course! I wouldn't let him go like that! He put his hand on my girlfriend! He was dead from the first minute he did that!" Heiji said proudly.

The girl came out of his arms and looked at him puzzled. The boy daze for a while.

"What did you call me?" she asked seriously.

"Huh? My girlfriend? Maybe?" the boy replied hesitantly.

"So, I'm your girl now?" she asked again.

"Yes, yeah... if you want to..."

"Of course I want!" she hugged him again. "You don't know how happy I am!" she started to kiss him like crazy. He pulled over and laid on the bed.

"Kazuha, you know that you need to rest. So I will leave ok?"

"Huh? No! Don't go! Stay here with me! Pleaseeee." she begged him playfully dragging him all the way back.

"o-ok…." he replied embarrassed.

"Yay! "she looked at him seriously.

"wha-what?"

"You know…. I was thinking… what do you say about helping me forget the last night forever? Huh?" she stated boldly.

"Huh? Um… I don't have any problem", the detective answered. "Wait." He locked the door of the room.

"Ok… so what what do you want me to do now?" he asked as he was getting closer to the bed.

"hm… what about making me yours and only yours?" she answered playfully.

Meanwhile in Ran's room.

The girl had not woken up yet. She was hit firmly but fortunately the hit didn't cause her any serious damage. Around her bed was Sonoko, the maids and a boy who was looking at the girl uncomfortable.

"Tell us what happened last night, Shinchi ", Sonoko suggested.

"As I said and yesterday... we came to the club. After some time we saw you with those guys. Heiji went to Kazuha and I followed Ran. I saw her dancing with him. She was having fan, so i went out to get some air... I did some looking around. When I got behind the club I saw Ran collapsed... I called her name but she didn't answer. Then a car came, the guy above her went into it and disappeared... I went to Ran and got her out of there... Then I found your pals and came here...''

"If I ever catch them, they will regret the time they decide to meet us! They don't know who I am!" Sonoko hissed.

Then a maid entered the room and talked to Sonoko. She got up and got out of the room along with her maids, leaving only the detective and Ran in the room. Ran's parents were on the phone and were asking about her condition. The young detective stared at the girl who was fast asleep. It had been a long time since he had seen this angelic face asleep and he had to his true form. But he didn't feel pleasure with that. He couldn't have her near him anymore. It would be impossible after all. Yet he had to protect her better than this. He shouldn't let anything bad happen to her... nothing. He promised to himself that he will find them and he would make them pay for that. But he didn't see the car's plate. it seems that they wanted to kidnap her but because of him they left empty handed. They would have already left the island and as for their faces, only the girls had seen them. They needed to identify them once they leave the island.

He was lost in those thoughts when he heard a woman's voice. It was like hearing an angel speaking to him. He lifted his head and saw a pair of blue eyes staring at him inquiringly. It was Ran.

"Ran! Are you ok? You need something?" he asked her happily and worried at the same time.

"No." she replied coldly. "Just call Sonoko and get out of the room. I don't want to see you again! Get your hands off me! I hate you!"

These words made him feel a strong pain in his heart but he knew he deserved it. He bent his head and stood up. He said nothing, just crossed the room and opened the door. Came out in the hallway and told the maid who waited behind the door to call her mistress. He proceed to the stairs feeling heavy. This whole situation was too heavy for him. He didn't know if he could handle it. In a few days he would turn back to his "normal" life again. He was a high school boy now, he could play football again, he would be free to do whatever he wanted, not afraid for his life, not afraid for the safety of his family. He was about to start a new life... only without the girl who he truly loved and would do anything for her... but if she was happy then he was fine like that. No more questions. No more secrets.

He took a step forward and descended the first stair. He started talking to himself out loud without realizing it.

"It 's ok", he said and he downloaded the next step, "She will be happy ", made another step "She will be safe away from me ", he continued to descend, " She will again be joyful ", " She won't be sad anymore", "She won't be not afraid anymore..."

A few minutes later he arrived at the end of the stairs. His gaze was empty. He was feeling a big gap inside of him. He then realized that he was alone. He had lost her forever. Her words still echoed in his mind.

"I hate you... get out of here... I hate you... I hate you..."

Something wet ran down his face.

Tears?

Tears full of sadness and despair. He fell on his knees and stared at the empty space in front of him. He wasn't feeling so well, his heart ached, he began to breathe heavily, images came to his mind, water, air...he needed air. He tried to get up but his legs didn't respond. He fell down. After several attempts he decided to give up and lie down on the floor. His gaze fell on the chandelier on the ceiling. Large, shiny and made of real crystal. Both magical and simultaneously scary. He was very tired and so he fall asleep without realizing it. After some time he woke up and saw the shadow of a head that obscured the light of the chandelier above it.

"Um, dude! Are you ok? Hey! Wake up pal! We have to go!"

"Huh? Ha-hattori? Wha-? Get off me!" he stood up. "Where are we going?"

"We are leaving!"

"The girls?" Shinichi asked lifeless.

"Yes, they are fine. You okay?"

"Yeah I'm fine..." he lied.

"Yes, definitely! A maid said she saw you talking to yourself as you went down the stairs and then sleeping on the floor. Are you crazy?"

"What? Fuck you Hattori! Let's go!" he began to push him towards the exit violently.

Went they went out into the yard it had already dawned. The sky had become from pink to red and the sun began to disappear behind the mountains.

"Hattori… let's get out of this island... tonight..." Shinichi suddenly requested.

Meanwhile in Ran's room.

"Are you feeling better?" the rich girl asked her friend.

"Yes and no... I just can't swallow it! I am furious that HE saved me from the other guy! But- mmoooo!" she crossed her arms disturbed.

"hahaha... come on honey! Don't be so angry! You were very lucky that he was there! Ne Kazuha?"

"Yes Ran-chan! Don't be so angry anymore. Just relax, yes?"

"NO!" cried the champion of karate. "I will forget about him forever and I will continue my life! This will do!"

"Okay... okay... just relax for now, yes?"

"Νo... unless we leave this island I won't rest!"

"Ran... even if we leave the island, you will see him at school from morning to night... Think about it! And finally relax!"

Ran lost her color hearing Sonoko's words. She didn't want to see him again in front of her. She didn't want to have him anywhere near her... nowhere in her life... No more pain. The pain to be away from him, the one that she loved. She wanted to be away from the person who hurt her, him who was lying all this time, him who made her cry. She wanted to make him suffer for all these moments. She wanted revenge. She wanted to make him suffer but she didn't want to admit it. The truth was that she was still loving him and that she had lost him forever but she didn't want to admit it.

After some time she finally went to bed to stop thinking about him. But she couldn't sleep at all. She tried to clear her thoughts. She wanted to clear her mind.

Impossible…

She got up and went to the balcony to clear her mind bathed into the moonlight. It was so beautiful and enchanting. She wished she could have been with him under the beautiful moon. It was impossible after all. Then she saw a plane in the sky. There were no clouds and there was silence, so she could hear it and see it's lights. As she saw it away from the island, she felt a bit lost inside her like something had collapsed in her.

Once it started getting colder she went back to the room forgetting about that feeling. This time she managed to sleep quietly.

The last days hided many surprises... but the new ones would be even worse...
