He has never been so frustrated.
Kaito was attacked and is now in a critical situation, he has absolute no clue who the attacker is, Lily could come flying in and steal whatever it is she's going to steal anytime, his father's constantly trying to annoy him, Rinto wasn't even trying to help and Rin's eyes are killing him.
…Maybe he should set his priorities on Kaito's situation, not Rin.
No, no one and nothing is more important than the riddle.
The last resort for the last fantasy,
The greatest blacksmith killed the angel that went crazy.
A creed of the third killer and the using of the code,
The devil that refuses to cry and the missing show.
The sky of the sixth order where the full moon arrives,
The buttons to be inputted, reversed for a surprise.
Heaven or hell, the strike to end it forever,
When the glitch occurs, it's game over.
Last Fantasy, greatest blacksmith: A Japanese sword made by the legendary blacksmith Masamune.
Creed of the third killer, sky of the sixth order: Sixth something in Assassin's Creed III.
Using of the code, reversed for a surprise: The Konami code, (Up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, A, B, Start.) reversed.
The devil that refuses to cry, heaven or hell: Devil may cry, heaven or hell mode, one-hit strike.
Glitch, missing show: Unknown.
Len started listing everything down in his notebook.
Possible time: Where the full moon arrives, possibly the next full moon.
Possible entrance: The sky of the sixth order, from the sky.
Possible places: Absolute no idea.
Possible things that could be stolen: The sword which Kaito said he has but which Len has not seen yet.
Possible methods: The reversed Konami codes would be her possible way of movement. Heaven or Hell, either one of them would lose immediately if the wrong choice or action is made.
Possible exits: When the glitch occurs, whatever it is, it would all end.
Possible ways to get her: None.
Len needs coffee, preferably double espresso, no sugar.
It was the same as the first time; the riddle's going to drive him crazy faster than Rinto drinking beer.
And the worst thing was: the full moon's tomorrow.
And there's that other problem he has.
"I leave you for one day, just one day and here I am, knowing that my son is interacting with the Yakuza, friends with that Asian hacker which my boss has been trying to track down since five years ago and involved with a murder case. When we get home, you are grounded."
"You do realize I never go out, right?" Len emotionlessly asked his father.
"…Can't you just give me the satisfaction of being able to shout at you?"
"No, not today, not ever," Len smiled, "Any clues?"
Leon sighed; he just wanted a son who would fight his father for the game controller and play toy cars, not a son who decided to become Sherlock Holmes.
"No fingerprints were found, the only suspects are Akaito and Takaito. Tapes didn't show anything, possible weapon…"
Len stared at his father's sudden quietness, "What?"
"A Japanese sword."
"…You think it's Lily too, don't you?" Len asked, not happy with his father's response.
"Actually, no." Leon sighed, "As much as most of the evidence points towards her, I know her, or whoever she is. Lily never kills."
"You know an awful lot about her," Len commented, "You're not telling me something."
Leon was quiet for a while, but only a short while, "I'll tell you the next time, let's get back to business, you got any clues?"
"Check any signs of soil on their shoes; he may have climbed in from the windows. There's also a possibility that Kaito was unconscious then moved to his bedroom, check for any clues. I want a list of all the injuries, a full search on both the suspect's room, and bring me the sword."
Exactly who is in charge of this investigation? Leon thought.
"And a double espresso, no sugar." Len added with a faint smile, then continued to look at the riddle.
"We're going to need a little bit more help for this one," Len said.
It was two days after Kaito's attack, with Lily coming to steal the sword in less than 26 hours.
Len has written down all the clues, Rin gave suggestions and plans while Rinto searches for any information he could find.
"How about you guys go visit Gumi again?" Rinto suggested.
"No."
Both of the boys stared at Rin.
There was something on her face that Len wasn't expecting from her. She looked extremely uneasy when Rinto mentioned Gumi, as if she's some sort of murderer. (Well, she is a murderer.)
"I know it's stubborn or stupid of me for saying this, but I want to avoid Gumi at all cost. She's too…strange, crazy. Her information isn't at all reliable and I don't trust a psychopath." Rin looked guilty for a while, but then straighten and said, "I know where I can get more help."
"And that is?" Rinto urged.
"Rinto, promise me not to laugh at whatever she says," Rin looked sternly into Rinto's eyes.
Len quietly reminded himself to concentrate on everything Rin does from now on. There's something about her that not only makes Len interested in her, but also suspicious about her.
Len has made a full search on Rin, Rinto, Kaito and his two brother's contacts. And as far as Len's got, he never found anything about Rin. No family, no birthplace, no details, not even her birthday.
And that was definitely strange.
No matter how much you hide your identity, the human mind will rat it out, and the computers will convert it into data, and it will forever be inside it, no matter how much you hide it, he could find it.
But he couldn't.
And that has been bothering him since day one.
Rin took out her laptop and connected a high resolution webcam (A newer module of a Logitech Pro HD Webcam C910). She typed out something and then turned the laptop around for them to see.
"Brace yourself," Rin added, then proceeded to step away from the laptop.
"Bloody eggnogs! What do you think you're doing? Why are you doing this to me? You annoying imbeciles!"
The sound that came out was in a British accent, a voice so high she could be a solo soprano in the operas. The image on the screen was too dark for Len to see.
Rin tried to cut in, "Miku, please, I have friends and-"
"You bescumbered Coccydynia! Little shard-born succubus!"
"She is one foul-mouthed harridan," Len commented as he laughed at the girl shouting, "Who taught her those words?"
"I apologize, it was me," Rin smiled drily, "I really shouldn't have."
"I…do not understand half of these words." Rinto shrugged.
"Trust me; you do not want to know." Len smiled, "Who is she?"
"Michaela Jones," Rin explained, "But since her mother's Japanese, she has another name, Hatsune Miku. Calling her Miku is much easier. Sixteen, British, gamer, information collector and the best disguiser I have seen in my whole life. And she tends to rage at everything."
"Nasty slubberdegullion!" Miku shouted.
"Point proven," Rinto said drily, "What's a slobber pelican?
"Slubberdegullion," Len explained, "A worthless slobber or fat person."
Rin tried cutting in again, "Miku, please, stop for a while and-"
"You treacherous son of a-"
"MICHAELA JONES!" Rin, not shouting, but loudly and angrily called out.
"Huh? What?" There were sounds of objects crashing into each other, "Oh, Rin? Wait, wait, wait a while. Damn it."
The lights went on, and Len got a closer look of Miku.
Her hair was very scary.
This was the first immature thought that went through Len's head. If Miku had combed her hair, wear some decent clothes and went out into the sun, she wouldn't look like a vampire with glitter on.
Her hair was a mixture of beautiful teal green and six-month old grass; she was so pale Len could imagine her as a Dracula, wearing what seems to be like a very dirty top and a sweater.
"S'been a long time since you contacted me, Rinny," Miku tried to adjust her webcam, "What have you been doing? Dating? Who's that boy beside you? Wait, what are you doing?"
"Please, Miku, stop talking and-"
"God damn it, I leave you for a week and this is what happens? Really? What's your bloody name, spit it out, you twat." She shouted, pointing at Len.
"Len Strife," He sighed, "It is nice to meet-"
"You're Len?" Miku gasped, "Rin, you should've bloody told me!"
"I tried but-"
"Rin's been telling me about you since the start of school, and it's been really annoying, it's Len this and Len that. Wait, wait a second, why exactly are you contacting me at a time like this? You guys aren't really dating yet, right?"
"Miku, please, just shut the hell up and let me speak," Rin looked like she wanted to throw the laptop away, "What games have you been playing lately?"
"AC four and some Payday, but why are you asking me about games?"
"I'm going to give you a list and you're going to play these games entirely, I want every detail, every clue and every possible way to steal something. Got it?"
"Blooming. What is with you lately, but I got it."
"First off, Assassin's Creed 3, I need you to find anything with the number six. I want you to search for every game that has a Konami code and play them. Next-"
"You want me to do what? Do you know how many bloody games have Konami codes in them?"
"Thank you; you're a very good friend, Miku, please." Rin said without emotion, "Next, I want you to do a full research on glitches, every one of them."
"…Skanky bollocks…but I'll do it."
"Thank you," Rin sighed gratefully, as if thanking god that the conversation is finally going to end.
"But I want a full story of what exactly happened, especially you, boy, you're going to get your privacy invaded by me for the rest of your bloody life."
"…Right." Len nodded, half-smiling at Rin's friend.
As Rin closes the laptop, she smiled and stared at Len with her dazzling blue eyes which Len just couldn't take his eyes off of.
"Now, let's get back to business," Rin said.
"Here's the report," Leon said as he threw the papers onto Len's head, "Anything else?"
"My espresso, again, no sugar." Len smiled.
"…I hate you." Leon said as he walked out the room.
"Me too," He laid the papers on the table for Rin to read, "Heavy hit in the head, a stab in the stomach, multiple bruises on arms and legs…You know what that means."
"He was fighting with the attacker before he was hit in the head." Len said frustrated, "Kaito knows who the attacker was."
"Which means the attacker expected Kaito to die, not live." Rin said, "God damn it."
"He'll probably come back to kill him," Len said, "I'll get them to protect him at all cost. But, that's not the main problem."
"Then what is?"
"Well, that uneducated stupid useless and also worthless attacker not only wasted my time, but framed Lily for something she's never going to do." Len smiled, but there wasn't anything friendly inside of his eyes.
"You seem angered by this," Rin asked, "What are you going to do?"
"Easy," Len stood up, "Make him pay."
"Why am I here?"
Len said, frustrated, confused and annoyed. He needed to concentrate, meditate, investigate, research. He has a riddle to solve and a possible-murderer to catch.
And here he is, in the underground city of Japan.
"You need to relax," Rinto said, they glanced at Rin, "I mean both of you."
They arrived at the place using the subway. (With Rinto leading, they got lost twice until Rin decided to 'Just follow the damn signs')
"Don't thank me," Rinto smiled, "This place has everything, clothes, food, games…"
"Books?" Len asked.
"…Walk straight, turn right and keep on walking until you see the book store." Rinto sighed.
"Thank you," Rin smiled excitingly, "Come on, Len."
The thing is, it doesn't really matter which language the books are in, Len still understands it as if it's English. So, spending five hundred (American dollars) on books in a Japanese book store wasn't really a problem for him as he could easily understand it.
…He could worry about getting killed by his father for spending five hundred after he gets back.
"Finances…myths…thieves…technology…physics…weapons …the working of minds…Are you sure you're going to buy all of these?" Rin asked, as she looked at the trolley filled with books.
"Yes, why?" Len asked.
"Because when you finish these, I want to borrow them." Rin smiled, "But I still have seventy to spare, so I'll go grab some books first."
Len watched as Rin ran off, for a moment, she looked like a child excited to get her first toy.
Maybe the whole crime thing can wait.
Len pulled the trolley to the other side and walked towards Rin. She was in the mystery section, looking at books, choosing a few to buy.
Len glanced at the book she was reading.
The title of the book was "Deep sea city underground tunnel."
