Disclaimer: Don't own The Vampire Diaries or The Originals. I only own the OCs that are in this story.
A/N: I had such a hard time writing this chapter. Nothing was coming to me easily. I would get somewhere in this chapter, but then I would change it cause it didn't fit or didn't go with the characters true nature. I mean, I almost had Jess sleep with Marcel. I changed it cause it seemed too out of character for the both of them. I can only hope that you like the first part of this chapter. Now for some bad news. I have to take a short break from writing this story. No more than a two week hiatus. I am not abandoning this story. Trust me. I just need to focus on school right now cause the quarter is getting close to being done. I have homework, school projects, and finals that need to be my first priority. Please be patient with me. I promise I will get back to writing this story as soon as I can. I won't leave you guys hanging. I thank you all for the support you have given me. I have always wanted to post a fic on and I could never dreamed of such a positive reaction than what you all have given me. From the bottom of my heart I thank you all so much.
Sneezing. Coughing. Runny nose. Stuffed nose. Sore throat. Drowsiness.
All symptoms of a common cold. Being human was starting to become tiresome for Kol Mikaelson. It wasn't just because a measly little cold was getting the better of him, being human made everything different.
Food tasted and smelled different.
He'd be lying if he said he didn't miss the taste of blood. It was his life source for centuries and it didn't help when Klaus would tease him by offering him a sip of his warm, fresh blood and then push the cup towards him. He was tempted to taste a tiny sip, but Kol knew that it would have no effect on him. The blood would just taste of copper, like pennies.
Sights and sounds were at a lower quality. Kol hated that he could no longer eaves drop on his siblings to hear what they were talking about.
Having to wake up and go to the bathroom was tedious. He felt weak despite being warlock. He felt useless at times.
Sex! Human sex was nothing compared to vampire sex.
Vampires could go for hours, days even and not get tired or worn out. As a human, Kol was lucky if he could last three minutes. Back scratches didn't heal fast enough. He was always tired afterwards. His body ached in all the wrong places.
He felt useless.
Then there were the nightmares that plagued Kol throughout the night. One of the dreams was him back on The Other Side; alone once again, running to find freedom that never came. Another dream Kol had was encountering the faces of his victims. He would try to escape them, but they would eventually find him. Kol's victims would take their revenge by killing him the way he ruthlessly murdered them. That's when Kol would have to scream himself awake.
The nightmares were starting to take a toll on Kol's mind and health. It was one of the main reasons why he particularly asked Sophie for help.
"There has to be a way to block these images from seeping into my mind when I try to sleep. Can't you put up a wall in my head or something? I have seen witches do that for individuals who experienced a traumatic event. Can you do that?" He remembers asking the witch a while back.
But Sophie proved to not be as helpful as Kol had hoped. The girl did not have a lot of experience in witchcraft. Yes, she could do little common spells, but other than that she had no real training.
As he soon found out while spending time with Sophie was that she and Jane's parents died in a car crash 15 years ago. The two remaining Deveraux sisters only had each other.
"Jane was the only family I had. I didn't make it any easier on her by acting out from time to time. She gave up so much to take care of me and I just took it all for granted." Said Sophie as she reminisced about Jane.
"Do you feel as if Jane abandoned you?" asked Kol.
Sophie nodded her head in response.
"I can relate. I have been abandoned by my siblings all my life. Every time I would get close to them, they'd disappear without a moment's notice. When I would finally catch up with them, I would get stuffed in a box for a decade or century." Kol shared honestly.
"The last time you were daggered by Klaus was in 1912. Why did he do that?" asked Sophie.
Kol smirked at her question. It was what everyone had wondered about. Why did Klaus dagger Kol all those years ago?
"That's a story for another time, darling." Replied Kol.
Erupting into a fit of coughs, Kol reached for his phone and texted Jess to come over. He hadn't talked to her since her outburst the other day in regards to finding out that he slept with Sophie. In all honesty, he still couldn't understand why she had gotten so upset.
'It must have been a side effect of last month's transition. Werewolf PMS.' Kol thought to himself.
After Jess's little outburst the other day upon finding out that Kol and Sophie were becoming bed buddies she realized how ridiculous she acted. Kol was free to do whatever he pleased. While Hayley commented that she had every right to be upset, Jess disagreed. She had no claim over Kol. He wasn't her boyfriend. They were just friends. Allies. That was it. It was all they could ever be as Jess believed that Kol would never see her as anything more.
Even though Kol looked like your average 21 year old, the truth was that he was not. The guy had over a thousand years of life experiences. Yes, Kol could display a cute, immature, and boyish quality, but in reality, he was a grown man. Maybe that was what intrigued Jess about him. Kol had so many layers to him that most people did not possess.
Finding a mate was never a priority for Jess unlike it was for other werewolves. She never dreamed of being tied down or committed to one person for the rest of her life. Even though her count of boyfriends were far and few, she never denied herself the pleasures of being intimate with a member of the opposite sex when the opportunity presented itself. Jess realized she was being a hypocrite in regards to the situation with Kol.
"Jess! Pay attention, will ya!" yelled Diego as he reverted his attention back to the TV.
The two, along with Thierry were over at Marcel's home, The Abattoir playing Assassins Creed II.
"What? Oh shit! Damnit!" she yelled at the screen. Her character had just been stabbed to death.
"Stop daydreaming and pay attention." Scolded Thierry.
"Shutty! I hate this fucking game. I can never find the character I have to kill. All end up doing in this game is walking around. Let's just call it the Pedestrians Creed." Jess continued to complain.
"You hate this game because you suck at It." laughed Diego.
"No. I hate this game because every one of my kills gets fucking stolen from me. Thierry, how do have so many fucking points? When did that happen? Un-fucking-believable."
Suddenly she felt the vibration of her phone in her pocket. "Who the hell is this?" she asked in reference to who was calling her.
As she pulled it out she saw that it was a text from Kol.
'Come over here. Quick. Please.' – Kol.
"What? The nerve of him." Said Jess and proceed to type back a reply.
'I am not your slave. Get your girlfriend to help you.' – Jess.
Seconds late she received, 'Stop being a baby and grow up. I am sick and in need of care.' – Kol.
'Not my problem.' – Jess
Then Jess received a text that she could not ignore.
'Klaus daggered Elijah.' – Kol.
'I'm coming over. You better not be lying.' – Jess.
"Marcel!" She yelled to get the vampire's attention.
Dropping the game controller, Jess ran upstairs and knocked on Marcel's bedroom door.
"Marcel! Open up!"
"Girl, why are you yelling?" asked Marcel when he opened the door in nothing but a towel wrapped around his waist.
Jess had to take a step back to get a good look at him. She would never deny that she found Marcel attractive. She wasn't blind.
"Wow. Just like I have always imagined." She said in regards to seeing him without a shirt on.
"Jess, focus." Said Marcel as he snapped his fingers to get her attention.
"Right. Sorry. I have some news that may please you. A little birdy has told me that Klaus has apparently daggered Elijah. Now I am headed off to find out if it's true." Revealed Jess then added, "Do you want me to take Thierry and Diego to fetch the coffin for you or…"
"No, no. I want Klaus to tell me first and have him bring me the coffin himself."
"Right. Well, I better get going. Hey Marcel, do you think Kol is trust worthy?" asked Jess. Since Marcel knew him longer, she wanted to know his opinion.
Marcel sighed and gave the young werewolf a sympathetic look. "With Kol you have to be careful. He's going after his own family. His flesh and blood. What does tell you?"
"That I better keep my guard up."
"And your eyes open." With that advice Marcel went back into his room.
Jess put her ear up to the door. When she couldn't hear anything on the other side she turned around and left.
"Where are you going?" asked Thierry when he saw Jess make her way to the front door of the lavish home.
"Out!" she yelled back.
Getting in her car she drove to the Mikaelson mansion. Twenty minutes later Jess pulled up to the driveway and got out of the car. She knocked on the door twice and no answered. Twisting the door knob opened the front door and entered the home.
"Hello." She called out, but no one answered, "Klaus. Kol." Still nothing.
It wasn't until Jess heard someone coughing and moaning that she made her way upstairs to see that Kol was the source of the noise. What a pathetic sight she was greeted with. Poor Kol was lying on his bed in the fetal position. Used Kleenex tissues were scattered all around him. A half empty bottle of cough syrup was right next to him on the night stand. It was hysterical. Well, at least to Jess it was. For Kol, he was miserable being sick.
"Uh, you look awful." Proclaimed Jess as she walked closer to him so she could get a better look.
"I feel awful. I swear this cold is getting worse with each passing day."
"You'll live. Now where's Elijah?" asked Jess.
"In the basement."
"Show me. Come on. Get up. You called me over here. Now move." Said Jess as she grabbed Kol by the arm to get him out of bed.
Groaning because he was forced out of bed, Kol could do nothing but follow Jess out of his room. He took the lead and showed Jess where Klaus stashed a now daggered Elijah.
"Where is Klaus?" inquired Jess about the whereabouts of the hybrid.
"I don't know. I overheard him talking about meeting up with that blonde bartender who works with Sophie."
"Camille? What does he want to do with her?"
"I don't know. Probably cause she reminds him of Caroline." Replied Kol annoyed at having to be up and mobile.
The two were walking down a flight of stairs that lead to the basement of the mansion. When Kol stopped at the end of the stairs, Jess looked over his shoulder to see four coffins in front of them all in a row.
"That is so creepy. Elijah is in one of these coffins?"
"Yep and I think one of them also holds the body of our dead mother."
"Your family is so messed up. Anyways, show me Elijah. I want to see for myself." Jess insisted.
Kol walked over to the coffin that he knew Elijah was currently residing in and opened it.
"Oh my God." Said Jess once she saw the ashen, gray faced Original with a dagger in his chest. "I can't believe Klaus actually came through. How did he do it? When did he do it?"
"It was the day after you two had your little 'date.' I walked out of my room and I heard them talking. I didn't want to interrupt, so I sat quietly on the stairs. Elijah said that he and Klaus need to uphold their end of the deal with Sophie. He kept going on about how they needed to find out what secret weapon Marcel uses to locate when the witches are using magic. Klaus explained he has that covered by manipulating Marcel from the inside. He then went on to talk about the one vulnerability, the one weakness that Marcel could use to exploit Klaus in his quest to reclaim, not only The French Quarter, but entire city. Family makes Elijah weak. Mercy makes him weak and like all of us in the past, the poor bastard never saw the dagger coming. It was quite a thrilling sight to see. One down. Two to go." Said Kol happily.
"You're enjoying this way too much." Noted Jess.
"How can I not." Replied Kol.
As he looked down at his older brother, Kol felt a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment. The first step in his plan had succeeded. Elijah was now out of the picture. Next on the list was Rebekah. He knew that when his baby sister wouldn't be able to get a hold of Elijah that she would make her way back to New Orleans to see what happened to him. Klaus wouldn't hesitate to dagger her since she was a bigger liability than Elijah. Rebekah still harbored ill feelings towards Klaus for the century's worth of abuse she had to endure from him. She would do anything in her power to deceive, manipulate, and backstab in order to defeat Klaus. Rebekah would ruin everything if she isn't stopped.
"Okay, this is creeping me out now. Let's get out of here." Order Jess and started walking quickly back up the stairs.
"Sleep tight, dear brother." Whispered Kol and closed the coffin.
