Chapter 12
Zed had been there when the decorations were set up, but he had left soon after. So when he looked around the room there was more then when had last been there. Flowers decorated the walls and seats and on the walls were the most beautiful paintings that were in the Crownguard family's possession. There was a big table with some light snacks and drinks, these drinks mostly existing out of wine and a small amount of beer. Servants walked around busily, still placing some more decorations and setting up the last things. Zed walked to the table with snacks and quickly took one from the plates. He helped a bit with placing a few decorations but tried as always to avoid most work. Then finally, the guests started to arrive. Most of the guests were wealthy and well known Demacians. Servants started to move around, holding plates with snacks and drinks. Zed took one of the plates with drinks too and offered some to the new guests.
After about an hour, most people where in the dining room enjoying the feast. But Zed noticed that three main figures weren't here yet: Lux, Akali and Garen. They would probably officially open the feast later on. And so about half an hour after the first guests had arrived, Lux, Garen and Akali came in through the door. Garen was wearing a blue tuxedo with the Crownguard's crest on his breast. Akali was wearing a simple green dress and a golden necklace with an emerald in the middle. Lux came in last. She wore a beautiful blue dress with a golden pattern on it. She also wore a golden necklace with several sapphires around a small diamond in the centre. She was absolutely stunning. Zed's jaw dropped a little when he looked at her, but quickly reminded himself why he was here. He continued to serve people some drinks and snacks with the plate in hands. After a few minutes Garen officially opened the feast and servants came in with the best drinks and snacks. Zed noticed that and quickly disposed of his own plate and went to take a drink himself. He walked to the table and poured a glass of wine for himself. He took a swig and kept it in his mouth for a moment. He thoroughly took in the taste of the liquid and came to the conclusion he should buy some wine when he was done here. It would be a great variation to his normal meals, which most of the time existed out of bread and water.
The night went on for a few more hours and most of the people already started to prepare to leave. One by one they left through the big doors of the dining room and left the mansion. When everyone was gone except for Lux, Garen, Akali and of course the servants, Zed quickly left through a side door. He quickly took his tuxedo off to reveal his armour underneath it. He then hid in the shadows and waited a while when finally Lux and Akali came through the door. He silently followed them while Akali and Lux were having a conversation. Eventually they parted when each of them went to their respective rooms. When Lux was out of sight Zed readied his blades and stepped out of the shadow. "We meet again, Fist of the Shadow" He said with his cold and metallic voice. Akali jumped back a little when he suddenly appeared and replied: "So here you are, to kill an unarmed woman. How manly of you"
"Manly or not, your time has come" Zed said when he aimed for her heart with his blades. She barely dodged and quickly took out a smaller version of her usual weapon. Zed threw one of his shurikens at her but she just dodged it, making it hit the wall instead.
In the meanwhile a few rooms next to Akali's, Lux just entered her room and suddenly remembered she forgot to tell Akali something. So she went back through the door and went back to Akali's room.
Akali was losing this battle, she could see that. He had all of his weapons and gear, while she wore an annoying dress that just slowed her down. It wouldn't be long before...
A scream.
Lux was on her way to Akali's room when she heard the clashing of blades. She decided to walk faster and when she saw the scene before her she let out a short scream out of panic. She saw Akali, pinned to the wall with Zed's blades about to stab her. Zed's ears recognised Lux's voice and immediately turned his head towards her. Just when he had done that, he knew he had failed. In a matter of seconds he was surrounded by guards and servants and frozen in place by Lux's magic. After a few seconds Garen came in with his sword in hand to see what had happened. He saw Akali's dress slightly torn and Akali self bearing a few small wounds. He then turned his head to Zed who was now knocked out and tied. "What happened?" He asked.
"Zed somehow got himself into the mansion and tried to kill me" Akali simply answered.
Garen nodded to the guards and said: "Take his weapons and armour, then take him to a cell"
The guards quickly took Zed's weapons and did as they were told, leaving only Garen, Lux and Akali. "I guess you shouldn't worry about him anymore. I'm sorry that this happened. Good night"
Garen left the two women and went to his own room. Lux, still pretty much in shock about all what just happened, nodded to Akali, mumbled something what sounded like 'goodnight' and left.
The next morning was busy as many servants were still cleaning up the dining room. Lux just woke up pretty late in the morning and looked around her pink room to find her favourite breakfast on a table with a note. She quickly ate breakfast and picked up the small note. The note was written on a plain white piece of paper. She recognised her brother's handwriting and quickly read the words written down.
Lux,
I have something important to tell you about last night.
Come to my room when you've eaten your breakfast.
-Garen
Lux was curious. What was that important thing that he wants to talk to me about? She quickly got dressed and walked out of her room into the corridor. She walked until she arrived at the door of her brother's room. Even though she didn't know what all this was about, she was still a little nervous. She took a deep breath and opened the door.
Inside was her brother reading through some important looking files and didn't notice her coming in. Lux let out a soft cough so he would notice her. He looked up and greeted her: "Good morning! I take that you've found my note?" He said with a smile on his face.
"Yes, yes I have. What is it that you want to talk about?" She asked with a curious but also a little nervous tone.
He started to look more serious now. "As you know the person that tried to kill Akali last night was Zed. We've also found out that he has been undercover for a while, acting like a servant"
Lux's heart got crushed by thousands of invisible rocks as she already knows who it is that her brother is talking about, and why he called her here. Even though, she still asks him the dreaded question with tears already in her eyes. "Who was it then?"
Garen took a deep breath. He hated to see his sister like this. She was always so full of joy and always had a smile on her face, no matter what situation; she always knew to make the best of it. But now her eyes were filled with tears and her heart was broken into millions of pieces. "It was Jack. Jack Shadows"
The final blow was delivered; her heart now completely broken. She looked down and covered her face with her hands. The tears fell down on her palms as she continued crying. When she finally had found someone to love, it just happened to be an illusion.
