Chapter 12

"Ow," Hailey groaned grabbing her throbbing head. Looking around after she got her bearings Hailey saw she was lying on the basketball court and then it all came rushing back. How she had just walked away from her brother and Scott, right up to the Alpha, who had obviously brought her here after knocking her out somehow.

Hailey frantically felt around her body, looking for any bites or scratches, but she couldn't see anything, it was too dark! She searched through her pockets for her phone but couldn't find it. Standing up and using what little light there was, she tried to make her way to the exit, and as she moved she heard a crunching sound underneath her foot, bending down she found it was the her cell phone, the screen cracked and the device non-functional.

A low growl filled the silence causing Hailey to spin around. Crouching a few feet behind her was the Alpha. Hailey frantically backed away, but didn't want to take her eyes off him. The Alpha slowly stalked her, his actions forcing her away from the exit and to the bleachers. When the back of her knees hit them it was like a switch was flicked, she turned around and scrambled up the stairs, but it didn't take her far, when she reached the top, there was no where else to go. This is it, Hailey thought to herself, I'm going to die.

But the Alpha just slowly crawled up the stairs towards Hailey as if he had all the time in the world. When he reached her Hailey wanted to close her eyes, but she couldn't. All she could do was watch as his clawed hand reached for her stomach, lifting up her shirt and bringing its face to it taking a deep breath. Hailey was expecting a bite but all it did was take its other hand, it lowered the side of her pants over her hip and, using the tip of its claw is scratched something into her skin.

Hailey screamed as the pain took hold and she felt her blood running down her side, soaking into her pants. And as suddenly as he appeared, the Alpha disappeared again. Taking deep breaths to stop herself from passing out Hailey pressed her hand against the mark and shakily made her way down the stairs and to the exit.

Before she could reach the doors they opened and Scott walked through. "Hailey!" He ran over to her. "What happened? Where did you go?"

"Scott," she gasped out. "The Alpha. He's here."

Scott pushed her behind and Hailey saw that the Alpha was already there. "Run." Scott told her. "Get out of here!" He yelled.

And so Hailey ran. She ran towards the entrance they had originally gone in. When she reached it, the doors we already open, the dumpster that had been holding them closed had gone. Hailey rushed outside and in the direction she remembered the Alpha had thrown Derek. But when she got there he was gone, ad looking around she saw his car was gone as well. She fell back against the wall and slid down to the ground gingerly, keeping her hand on the scratches, the bleeding had slowed down but it still hurt!

She must have passed out because the next thing she knew Stiles was shaking her. "Hailey! Wake up!"

"Stiles?" Hailey came to groggily, then frantically looked around. "The Alpha! Is it still-"

"It's gone Hailey. The cops are on the way. What happened to you?" Stiles looked her over and froze at the blood he saw staining her shirt.

"Give me your jacket." Hailey demanded.

"What happened Hailey?" Stiles asked furiously pulling off his jacket. "What did it do to you?"

Hailey quickly put the jacket on, covering the bloodstains. "We'll talk about it later, but looks like Dad's here now. What are we going to tell him?"

Stiles looked back to see their father approaching. "Let me handle it."

After the interrogation by their father and watching Allison dump Scott the three of them got a lift home with one of the officers. When they got in the house it was Stiles' turn to interrogate her.

"What the hell happened Hailey? One minute you were behind us and the next you'd disappeared. Where did you go?" He followed her as she rushed up the stairs and into the bathroom.

Hailey wet a washcloth and threw Stiles jacket off. She carefully lifted up her shirt and using the washcloth she gently rubbed away the dried blood on her skin to get a look at the mark there.

"What the hell is that!" Stiles yelled. "What did that thing do to you Hailey!"

Hailey stared at the mark on her hip, it looked like a bunch of swirls and Hailey couldn't help but feel that it was familiar to her somehow, she just couldn't place it right then. "When Scott was on the phone with Allison the Alpha was behind us." Hailey started. "When I looked at him I just, I don't know, I had to go over there. He knocked me out somehow and when I woke up I was on the basketball court. He chased me up the bleachers and scratched this mark on me."

"What does it mean?" Stiles asked.

"I don't know." Hailey answered. "I need to talk to Derek, he'll know what it means."

Stiles reached up and rubbed the back of his neck. "Yeah about that," he laughed a little nervously.

"What?" Hailey looked her at brother curiously after she finished rubbing off the blood on her skin and taped a small square of gauze over it. Once done she left the bathroom for her bedroom.

Stiles followed, albeit a bit slower. "Scott, um, said that, um, Derek was the one who killed the janitor and was after us in the school."

"What?!" Hailey turned on her brother yelling. "Why the hell would he do that? Derek's done nothing but help us and Scott's just thrown him under the bus. This is just typical of Scott," Hailey ranted. "Always going down the easiest path, never taking any goddamn responsibility. Give me your phone, I'm going to call him."

Stiles back away from his sister, not liking the crazed look in her eyes. "Hailey, he thought Derek was dead! He wouldn't have said anything if we knew Derek was alive."

Hailey was still ranting about Scott's stupid decision to blame everything on Derek, she walked into her closet and quickly threw on some new clothes. "Stiles, phone!" She demanded again.

Stiles walked over and grabbed Hailey by the shoulders. "Hailey! You need to calm down. There's nothing you can do now. What's done is done."

"No its not." Hailey insisted. "I can get that little shit to tell dad that he was wrong. That it wasn't Derek."

"We don't know what happened to Derek, Hailey." Stiles reminded her. "His body and car were gone when we got outside."

"Which means he's alive and probably hurt somewhere. And now Scott's gone and made him a fugitive! We need to find him."

Stiles threw his arms out. "How Hailey? By now dad and the others have gone to the old Hale house and even if Derek was there they've caught him, and if he wasn't then he's in the wind, hiding out."

"Because Scott's making him." But Hailey stopped pacing around, she knew Stiles was right there was nothing she could do right now, she didn't know where Derek would go in this situation, his house was definitely out but she didn't know any other place he would be.

She flopped down on her bed, suddenly all the energy leaving her body. "What are we going to do Stiles?" She asked wearily. "We need Derek. I need Derek."

Stiles joined his sister, sitting beside her on the bed and wrapping and arm around her. "I know Hailey. We'll find him, I know we will. For now why don't you get some rest, it's been a long night and you've been through a lot."

Hailey nodded and lay down. Stiles watched as his sister fell asleep and gently pulled a blanket over her before going back to his own room to try and get some sleep himself.

Hailey woke up when someone climbed into bed with her and just as she was about to scream a hand quickly covered her mouth.

"Shh. It's me, Derek."

Hailey closed her eyes and rolled over to embrace him. "You're alive." She couldn't help it, she just started to cry. "You're alive." She just kept mumbling over and over.

"It's okay, it's okay." Derek wrapped her up in his arms and let her cry it out.

When Hailey was finally finished she pulled back slightly to look him over. "Are you okay? It looked pretty bad."

Derek brushed aside some of her hair that was covering her face, looking her over as well. "I'll be fine. It'll be tender for a little while, but I'll be fine. What about you, where are you hurt?"

Hailey looked at him, startled he knew something was wrong. "How did you know?"

"I smell your blood." He told her. "What happened?"

Hailey rolled so she was on her back and pushed the blankets down so she could show him the mark on her hip. "The Alpha did this."

Derek gently caressed the mark on her hip, his face a mix of anger and satisfaction. "What is it?" She asked him.

"My tattoo." Derek looked her in the eyes. "The Alpha marked you with my tattoo."

Hailey's eyes widened as she remember Derek's tattoo in the centre of his back, the same mark that was now on her hip. "Why would he do something like that?"

Derek shook his head. "Maybe he's giving his approval of the match?" There was a large amount of confusion in his voice.

"Why would he do that when he'd just almost killed you?"

"I don't know. In a Pack the Alpha always approves of the matches between mates. Without the Alpha's approval the rest of the Pack don't accept the match."

"Maybe it's his way of saying he wants you in his Pack. Maybe that's why he lured me away from the others."

"He did what?" Derek asked dangerously.

Hailey went on to explain what had happened to her when that Alpha took her and Scott's theory on the Alpha wanting him to get rid of his friends. Derek didn't move during the whole story, just lay there getting angrier and angrier. "Why would the Alpha approve of me but want Scott to get rid of Stiles and the others? It doesn't make sense."

Derek shrugged. "It makes sense in my world."

"What do you mean?"

"The Alpha knows that if he ever had a chance to get me in his Pack he would need you, but for Scott it's different. The ties he has are not as permanent as you and I." Derek explained.

"But he killed your sister. Why would he think you'd join him after that? And Stiles is Scott's best friend. There's no way Scott would kill him." Hailey reminded.

"I know, but this Alpha's different. There's something inside of him that's made him this way. He wants vengeance for something, I just don't know what it is."

Hailey nodded and she tried, she really tried to stay awake but now that she knew Derek was alive but she couldn't stop her eyes from sliding closed. She fell back asleep to the feel of Derek rubbing his hand up and down her back.

The police had closed the school on the Thursday and Friday to do more investigating as to what happened that night. They were all pulled into the Sheriff's office a few more times but once they all realized that they couldn't get any more out of them, they stopped questioning the teenagers.

Hailey had only been able to see Derek one more time on the Friday night and only for a few minutes so she was feeling a little antsy as she and Stiles pulled up to the McCall house with a bag full of chains. That didn't make her feel weird at all.

They walked up the steps to the front door and Stiles let himself in the house with a key. A key Hailey didn't know Scott had given him.

"Scott?" Hailey heard Melissa call from the living room.

"Stiles and Hailey." Stiles responded.

Melissa came around to face them, looking down at the key in Stiles hand. "Key!"

"Yeah." Stiles sounded pleased with himself and Hailey just made a face of apology to Melissa. "I had one made."

"That doesn't surprise me." She glanced away and finished in a lower tone. "It scares me, but it doesn't surprise me." She watched as the bag Stiles carried thumped to the ground. "What is that?"

Stiles looked quickly at Hailey as if she had the answers. "School project." Hailey told Melissa with a smile. "I'm helping the boys with a project.

"Mmm." Melissa responded with skepticism but then asked seriously. "Stiles, he's okay, right?"

"Who? Scott? Yeah. Totally." He tried to brush it off.

"He just doesn't talk to me that much anymore, not like he used to." Melissa looked sad at that admission.

"Well, he's had a bit of a rough week." Hailey reminded her. She hated seeing Melissa looking so uncertain. She was a great mom to Scott, he was really lucky to have her.

"Yeah, yeah, I get it. Yeah, um– Okay, uh– Be careful tonight."

"You, too." Stiles and Hailey responded simultaneously, then shot each other looks for it.

"Full moon."

"What?" Stiles asked, shooting Melissa and Hailey panicked looks.

"There's a full moon tonight." Melissa reminded. "You should see how the ER gets. Brings out all the nut jobs."

"Oh." Stiles laughed a little nervously.

"You know, it's, um, actually where they came up with the word 'lunatic'." Melissa told them then walked out the door.

Hailey and Stiles exchanged looks of relief before heading to the stairs and up to Scott's room. Stiles threw open Scott's door, dumped the bag on the floor and flicked the light on, then he jumped in shock. "Oh, my God! Dude. You scared the hell out of me. Your mom said you weren't home yet."

Hailey saw that Scott had been sitting in the dark with a brooding expression on his face.

"I came in through the window." Scott had this strange look on his face and just continued to stare at them.

"Okay." Stiles looked at Hailey and shook his head but turned back to Scott with the bag of chains he carried over. "Uh, well, let's get this set up. I want you to see what I bought."

"I'm fine." Hailey and Stiles looked at Scott quickly. "I'm just gonna lock the door and go to bed early tonight." He finished.

"Scott are you sure that's such a good idea." Hailey tried.

"Yeah 'cause you've got this kind of serial killer look going on in your eyes, and I'm hoping it's the full moon taking effect, 'cause it's really starting to freak me out." Stiles added.

"I'm fine. You should go now."

"All right, I'll leave." Stiles started to close the bag again, but stopped to try and convince Scott one more time. "Well, look, would you just at least look in the bag and see what I bought? You know, maybe you use it, maybe you don't. Sound good?"

Scott leaned forward and stood from the chair before slowly walking over to Stiles ad crouching in front of him, that serial killer look still in his eyes. "You think I'm gonna let you put these on and chain me up like a dog?" He asked picking up the chains.

"Actually, no."

Hailey watched as Stiles pulled something out of his pocket and pushed Scott into the radiator before handcuffing him to it.

"What the hell are you doing?" Scott yelled.

Stiles backed away from him quickly, pulling Hailey along with him. "Protecting you from yourself and giving you some payback." Stiles paused. "For making out with Lydia."

Hailey looked between Scott and Stiles in shock. "What? Scott how could you do that? You know how Stiles feels about Lydia."

Scott just kept staring at Stiles and didn't answer and Stiles took Hailey's hand and pulled her out of the room, closing the door behind him.

"Stiles," Hailey started. "It has to be the full moon. You know Scott wouldn't do that normally."

Stiles slid down to sit on the floor outside Scott's room. "I know Hailey. Still hurts though. He's my best friend."

"I know." Hailey took a seat next to her brother.

They just sat there in silence for a few minutes before Stiles stood again.

"What are you doing?"

Stiles didn't answer her, just walked into Scott's room and took a water bottle and dog dish out of the bag and after filling the dish he pushed it towards Scott.

Hailey watched it all in shock then in resignation as Scott picked up the bowl and threw it at Stiles back. "I'm gonna kill you!" He cried out.

Stiles stood there for a second before spinning back around to Scott. "You kissed her Scott, okay? You kissed Lydia. That's, like, the one girl that I ev– and, you know, the past three hours, I've been thinking, it's probably just the full moon, you know, he doesn't even know what he's doing, and tomorrow, he'll be totally back to normal. He probably won't even remember what a complete dumbass he's been. A son of a bitch, a freaking unbelievable piece of crap friend." Stiles finished breathless.

Scott looked up at Stiles a smug look on his face and Hailey knew this wasn't going to be good. "She kissed me."

"What?" Stiles asked uncertainly.

"I didn't kiss her. She kissed me." Scott smirked, watching Stiles storm out of the room. "She would have done a lot more, too. You should have seen the way she had her hands all over me. She would have done anything I wanted. Anything!" He screamed out at the end.

Hailey looked at her brother in sympathy and at Scott with disgust. If this is what being a werewolf was turning Scott into then Stiles was better off without him. They just sat down in silence for another hour or so before Scott spoke again.

"Stiles, please let me out. It's the full moon, I swear. You know I wouldn't do any of this on purpose. Please, Stiles, let me out. It's starting to hurt. It's not like the first time. It's the full moon. It's Allison breaking up with me. I know– that it's not just taking a break. She broke up with me. And it's killing me. I feel completely hopeless. Just, please, let me out."

"I can't." Stiles responded softly and Hailey rubbed his back in comfort. She knew her brother wanted to help his best friend, regardless of what had happened that afternoon. It was in Stiles nature to help and it was something she admired most about her brother.

"No, no, no." They heard Scott start screaming and Stiles closed his eyes, covering his ears to try and block it out. Hailey closed the door before putting her hands over Stiles' as well, trying to help him out. The noise stopped after a few moments and the siblings looked at each other concerned.

"Scott are you okay? Scott?" Stiles asked. When there was no response they jumped up and raced into the room. All they saw was an empty room with the handcuffs broken on the floor.

"Shit." Hailey said. "We need to find him Stiles. Come on." She started running out of the house for the car. "Let's go!"

Stiles followed his sister, jumping in the drivers seat and starting the Jeep they peeled out and started driving. "Where should we go?"

"He's probably going to try and find Allison." Hailey rationalized. "We should start there. Try and warn her somehow."

"And what are we going to tell her?" Stiles demanded. "That a teenage werewolf is on the way. All that will do is get her father to get out one of his many guns and shoot my best friend."

Hailey leaned her head back against the seat and closed her eyes. "You're right." She told him before taking a deep breath. "I'll have to call Derek. He's not going to be happy."

"Why? And let me tell you, Derek Hale's happiness is the least of my concerns right now." Stiles snorted out.

Hailey picked up her phone and started dialing. "He asked me to stay away from Scott tonight." She began but stopped when Derek picked up.

"What's wrong?" Derek demanded, knowing Hailey wouldn't call on a full moon unless there was something happening.

"Scott's out somewhere all crazed. We think he's looking for Allison." Hailey told him, getting straight to the point.

"And how would you know this?" Derek asked, his voice deceptively calm. "You're meant to be at home, safe in your room. That's what I told you to do."

Hailey took another deep breath before answering. "I know, but Stiles needed my help. Scott wasn't acting like himself and-"

Derek interrupted her. "Because it's a full moon Hailey!" He yelled. "He's a newly turned werewolf who has control issues. He's dangerous! Now go home and I'll sort this out." He hung up without any further word.

Hailey pulled the phone away from her ear and looked at it a little hurt that he would just hang up like that.

"What? What is it?" Stiles asked, his eyes flicking between her and the road.

"Derek'll take care of it." She told him. "Let's go home. There's nothing we can do now."

"What happened Hailey?" Stiles asked turning the car around so they were now on their way home. He could see that Hailey was upset.

"Derek's angry that I didn't listen to him." Hailey answered. "I just makes me feel- I don't-" she couldn't put into words what she was feeling. It was like she was torn inside. There was a part of her that wanted to listen to Derek and always do what he asked but then there was the other part that wanted to look after one of her closest friends. She just didn't know what to do.

"He'll get over it Hailey." Stiles comforted her. "He's just worried about you is all."

"Yeah, I'm sure that's it." Hailey responded.

As they were driving they came across an ambulance and police car. "What's that?" Hailey frowned at the scene.

Stiles being who he was quickly pulled over and jumped out of the car calling out. "Dad? Dad?" He frantically looked around. "Has anyone seen my dad?" He walked over to the body that was lying on the stretcher.

Hailey jumped out of the car and followed her brother, wondering why he was so concerned that something had happened to their dad when she saw him approaching Stiles.

"Stiles, Hailey. What are you doing here?" He demanded. Stiles just went over and embraced their father. He patted Stiles on the back, giving Hailey a small smile over his shoulder.

Hailey watched her brother and father embrace and smiled.

After they got home after seeing their father Hailey made her excuses and went up to her room. Derek was there already, sitting on her bed causing Hailey to freeze in the doorway. "You know this is the Sheriff's house right and that you're a wanted criminal?" Hailey closed the door and went over to her closet, hanging up her jacket.

"What happened tonight Hailey? Why didn't you stay home like I asked."

"Scott's my friend Derek. Stiles said he needed help and I helped." She answered shrugging. "Nothing happened to me. Did you find Scott?" She tried to change the subject.

Derek smirked slightly, knowing what she was up to. "Yeah, I took him home. He's going to be okay. The Alpha's messing with him though, making him act that way. That's why you need to stay away from him Hailey." Derek stood up and walked over to her, turning her around to face him. "He's unpredictable," he explained cupping her face, forcing her to look at him. "Full moon's make werewolves unpredictable." He went on softly.

"No, I'm not falling for the deep husky voice," Hailey pulled away. "I'm mad at you." She told him backing away to the other side of the room.

Derek started to stalk her around the room. "You're not mad." He voice deep.

Hailey continued to move around the room and jumped across the bed, trying to keep some space between them. "Yes I am. You hung up on me."

Derek leapt across the bed in one move causing Hailey to move quicker to avoid his grasp. "I'm sorry for hanging up on you." He told her. "Now stop running away and come here."

Hailey shook her head, continuing to move around the room trying to keep as much distance as possible between them. "No."

Derek stopped moving and reached down pulling off his shirt and threw it on the ground.

Hailey froze at the unexpected action and she just took a moment to stare at him. It was a moment that cost her, because faster than her eyes could track Derek rushed over to her and grabbed her around the waist, pushing her back against the wall. "Got you." He smirked.

Hailey put her hands on his shoulders and tried to push him away, but he wouldn't move. "Stop," she whispered.

Derek leaned down and started placing soft kisses along her neck and shoulder. "Do you really want me to stop?"

Hailey's head thumped against the wall as she tried to steel herself against the sensations Derek was creating with his lips. "Yes," she whispered again, but it didn't sound very convincing.

Derek smiled against her skin, sensing her surrender. He pulled away, looking deep into her eyes before lowering his lips to hers.

Hailey melted as Derek kissed her, her hands tightening on his shoulders. Derek picked her up and Hailey wrapped her legs around his waist as he walked them over to her bed, gently laying her down with his hips keeping her legs parted as he pressed their bodies close together. Hailey groaned at the contact, moving her hips against his to create friction. Derek moved his hand around her hip and to her butt pulling her up so that the contact between them stayed tight.

Hailey quickly reached down and pulled her top off, throwing it somewhere when she was done and Derek used his other hand to reach behind her for the clasp on her bra, skillfully opening it and slowly pulling it down her arms. He looked at her, his eyes smoldering before leaning down and taking one of her nipples into his mouth sucking gently at first and then harder, his other hand reaching up to massage her other breast.

Hailey gasped at the feeling, basking in what Derek was creating in her. Her gasp turned into a yelp when he bit down, drawing a small amount of blood. He looked up at her, grinning wickedly as he licked the blood off her breast. Her stomach muscles tensed as his hand moved down to the waistband of her pants, flicking open the top button and easing the zipper down he slid his hand into her panties and pressed down on the nub of her desire while sliding another finger inside her. Hailey's back arched off the bed and she would have screamed had Derek not sensed it and covered her mouth with his, his tongue dancing with hers mimicking the actions of his finger.

Hailey's nails dug into Derek's shoulders as she tried to control the shaking of her body while Derek lazily petted her through her orgasm. He pulled back when her body stopped quaking, a smug smile on his lips.

Hailey just tried to get her breathing under control, it took a few minutes but she finally got it. "Wow," she whispered. She reached for Derek, her hands cupping his face and brought his lips back to hers giving him the softest of kisses.

As she was reaching down for the waistband of his pants Derek froze his head jerking to the door. "Your father's home." He advised, the words coming out with a growl.

Hailey groaned in disappointment. "You'd better go." She told him reluctantly. "He'll be in to check on me and will do it throughout the night. He's super paranoid right now."

Derek reluctantly got up from the bed. "He's got every reason to be." He reminded her, walking over to the window to leave.

"Wait!" Hailey jumped out of bed, heedless of her topless state and rushed over to Derek to give him one last, lingering kiss before he left.

"I'll see you soon." Derek whispered against her lips before jumping out of her window and running off into the woods.

Hailey sighed watching him go. What a night!
