Chapter 11

By the time Satoshi and Daisuke could see the castle they could also see that there was something wrong with it. But Satoshi couldn't really put a finger to what was wrong. It didn't look the same as last time he had been there.

Last time he had been there the castle had looked somewhat scary. But this time it looked different.

The two boys had woken early and started their ride toward the castle. And now when the sun started to set they had reached it. They stood on a hill not far away and looked around. It wasn't any idea to try to sneak in until the next day. That way they could almost sneak in unnoticed with every deliverer he was sure going to the castle.

"We camp here tonight and sneak in tomorrow," Satoshi said.

The small red haired boy beside him nodded and went to set a temporary camp meaning somewhere they could sleep without freezing to death.

A few minutes later he was finished and Satoshi walked over to him.

"Sato… Satoshi, what do we do next?"

Satoshi smiled a bit. Daisuke was still nervous about calling him his name. Not that he was very surprised about that but it made him smile.

"I don't really now but when we reach the inside of the castle we would try to find our brothers as quickly as possible."

When those words left his lips the castle lighted up in a light that was both dark and light. It was almost impossible to look at and it shone like nothing that had seen ever before.

"What is that?" Daisuke whispered.

"That is a question I want the answers to too," Satoshi whispered back as he watched the light.

They weren't sure how long they sat there watching the light before it disappeared. But with the light gone they realized that everything around them had gone quiet. The two boys looked at each other then looked around before looking at each other.

"That light," Satoshi said. "Must have something to do with Krad."

"And Dark," Daisuke continued.

"Yes."

The two boys fell silent. Not really knowing what to say.

During the two days they had traveled together Satoshi had studied the slave. And he had seen that he had slowly changed. Not physically but he had still changed. In the beginning Daisuke had hardly spoken and the questions that Satoshi had asked were answered with a few words. But late – Satoshi didn't really remember when – the boy start talking.

"We don't have much time," Daisuke said.

Satoshi turned his eyes from the castle to the red haired boy and nodded. He knew that Daisuke was right. They didn't have much time left and they needed to get going. But he still didn't know how to get in to the castle unnoticed.

He let out a sigh and went over to study the castle. There were guards everywhere, how were they going to get past them?

"Do you see that?"

Satoshi followed where Daisuke's hand pointed. He had been a little surprised by Daisuke's word but he didn't make a comment on it. Daisuke's hand pointed on a small gate that led to a part of the castle that looked like it was never used. Satoshi could see that they hardly had any guards and those who where there they could easy sneak past.

"Good work," he said and looked over to the slave. "It's exactly something like this we needed. Now we have a chance to get in tonight. Let's leave the horse here. It will only be trouble to try to get it closer."

Daisuke just nodded and started to pack the things they had had with them, not that they had that much. In the mean while Satoshi tried to think out the best plan to get passed the guards. The best thing he could come up with was to try sneak past them. Easy as it sounded it was probably not that easy.

He looked away from the castle and noticed that Daisuke was finished. While Satoshi studied him he said something to the horse before he turned toward him.

"Ready?" Satoshi asked.

"As ready I'll ever be."

Satoshi gave him a small smile before they started to walk down the hill.

It didn't take them that long to reach the castle and as far as they knew they were unseen. When they got near the small gate they had seen on the hill they slowed down a bit and tried as discreet as possible, looking around to see if they were watched. They didn't see anything that looked like someone was watching them but they still didn't relax. Not as they had the hardest part left.

Satoshi stole a glance at the slave. He was surprised how well the slave got used to the situation. But he was glad that it was that way. If it had been any other slave he was sure that slave wouldn't get used to the situation as this one. It was something special about this boy. Not only did he adjust to situations well and was brothers with one in the Mousy family; there was something else too. And he could feel it. Well, the boy was a Niwa and that family was also one family with many secrets.

Satoshi shook his head to stop the thoughts. He didn't have time to think, not now. Not until they had found Krad and Dark and got out of there.

"We need to get inside quickly," he whispered.

Daisuke just nodded in reply before he started to walk toward the gate. Before Satoshi could stop him, Daisuke had walked over to the guard at the gate.

Satoshi could only watch in horror when Daisuke said something. He couldn't hear what was spoken between them but soon Daisuke waved at him to come. Before he started to walk he took a deep breath. What was going on? He had to have missed something.

When he reached the slave and guard he tried not to look too suspicious about what had going around.

"Well go in you two," the guard said when he was there and before he had a chance to even look surprised Daisuke took his hand and pulled him in to the castle grounds.

"What?" he asked when Daisuke let go of his hand.

"Not now," was the answer he got. "Later maybe, but I can't tell you what I did."

Satoshi let one eyebrow go up but he didn't comment. They were inside and that was all that mattered. At least at the moment. Their next task was to find their brothers.

OoOoOoO

The king looked at the two boys on the ground. Around them he could see a light of both dark and light. It was weak in the beginning but soon it grew and he had to close his eyes. The king wasn't sure how long he stood there with closed eyes before he could open them again but it was a quiet long time.

When the light died down the king looked around. Something had happened in the room. Something important but he couldn't really see what. What had really happen? He needed to know.

A sound from the floor made him look down. The two boys were still there. The breath he didn't know he had held he let out.

The king stepped closer and studied the boys carefully. Something had changed about them. He couldn't really place what but as he walked even closer he tried to see what. But nothing he saw was any different.

What had happened had been a surprise to him and he had to find about it. He needed to go to the library and find out everything he could about the Mousy and Hikari families; this to see what he had missed before. There had to be something he had missed. And that he needed to find it out now.

With a look at the two boys on the floor he started to walk toward the door instead. He took out the key to the room and walk out. When he was out he locked the door and walked toward the library.

OoOoOoO

When the door to the room closed the two other occupants of the room looked up. They looked around and tried to remember what had happened. But nothing in the room helped them to remember.

Krad looked down after he had let his eyes roam the room. Under him he could feel a warm body. When his head was turned so he looked down he met the violet eyes of his slave. Not that he could call him slave anymore, more less his even if he had never wanted to have a slave. No, this wasn't his slave. He was a free person. Or maybe not that free. Not even he was free at the moment. He had thought that the slave had been safe when he woke up. But now it wasn't like that. The slave wasn't free. He was just before him just now.

"Master."

The slave's words woke him from his thoughts and he smiled a bit.

"Didn't I tell you to call me Krad," he whispered.

The boy beneath him smiled a little and his cheeks slowly changed colour to light red.

"Sorry." Dark whispered.

"Don't be," Krad said. "just don't do it again. I am not your master. And I will never be your master either. You belong just to you. Remember that. As it is now we are both in the same place. We need to find a way to get out of here. Something happened a few moments ago."

Dark's cheeks got even darker.

"Don't feel ashamed. I don't. What happened, happened. But I can't say I didn't enjoy it."

At the end he couldn't help to smile. The boy beneath him was something special.

"I don't feel ashamed," Dark whispered. "I enjoyed it too."

Krad smiled and Dark smiled back.

"But we need to get out of here."

Dark nodded and they started to rise. When Krad stood up he lend a hand to Dark and helped him up. Of cause Dark lost some of his balance and fell toward Krad who caught him.

"Take it easy."

Dark looked Krad in the eyes and blushed.

"Now, how to get out of here..."

The two boys looked around the room. Krad took the few steps toward the door and found it locked; not that he was surprised about that.

"Do you know how to pick a lock?" he asked and turned to Dark.

To his surprise Dark blushed and gave a small nod. Krad watched Dark look around the room and take a few things that he could put to some kind of use. At least that was what Krad thought. When he was done, Dark walked over to the door and fell on his knees so that the keyhole was in the level of his eyes.

As Dark worked with the lock he studied him. During the time they had kissed -yes, they had kissed-, something had happened. He felt different. Now when the first chock had disappeared he could feel it. He wasn't sure what felt different but it was something. Something…

As Dark worked on the lock, Krad could see that there was something different with him too. It was like he shone with an invisible light. He looked far better than the first time he had seen him. Not that that was so hard.

"Done."

Once again Krad woke up from his thoughts when Dark spoke. He looked up and met Dark's violet eyes. Behind him he saw that the door stood a little open.

Krad walked over to Dark and door.

"Good job," he said. "Where have you learned that?"

"I don't know," Dark's answer was. "One day I realized that I could do things like that. I have never really used it. So I kind of forgot about it; at least until now."

Krad gave Dark a small look and smiled.

"I don't care how you got it right now. I'm glad that you knew how to open the door but if we want to get out of here we need to move now."

Dark nodded and looked out through the door.

"The hallway is empty," he said. "But where are we going? Are we leaving the castle?"

"My first answer would be yes," Krad said. "But I'm not sure anymore. The king wanted us for something. I need to know what he needed us for. Before we leave we must know."

Dark looked at him a nodded. He looked like he wanted to say something but decided not to. Instead he waved Krad closer and they started to leave the room.

OoOoOoO

Nothing. Absolutely nothing of use. The king threw the book against the wall and another one quickly followed. He had missed nothing in his research. What had happened in the room was something that never had happened before, or at least hadn't been written down. But how was he going to find out what had happen then and if it went against his plans?

With a deep sigh he opened another book.

"Maybe this one," he whispered to himself before he started to read.

It wasn't a book like the others. This really had nothing to do with the two families but still he felt like he should read it. He as drawn to it in a strange way.

The first few sentences were nothing of usefully so he skipped the first pages. The king looked through the book and tried to find what it wanted him to find. When he reached the end and still found nothing the book followed the others and he sat own with a sigh.

Why couldn't he find anything?

Unknown for him two shadows moved around in the room. He also failed to notice that the book he had just thrown away was picked up by the shadows before they silently left the room.

The king didn't really know how long he sat there just staring at the table before him before he took out another book. He would never find anything like this.

Some time later the books he had thrown away grew more and more but still no information.

"This is useless," he said loudly when he threw another book to the stack.

OoOoOoO

"Satoshi… Why did you take just that book?" Daisuke asked. They had gotten in to the castle in a way he wasn't sure how but now they were inside looking for Dark and Krad. What had surprised Daisuke had been the differences between the castle and Hikari household. In a way the Hikari household felt more alive. It felt like more people were there. Shouldn't it be the other way around? Shouldn't the castle have more people? As Daisuke and Satoshi had walked around they had walked trough empty hallways. There was no way in hell that it was supposed to be like that. Not that Daisuke knew how it had been inside the Hikari house but they hadn't seen many people at all.

"It has the answers we need," Satoshi said and broke Daisuke's line of thoughts.

"How do you know that?"

"I have seen it before and I have read it before. I didn't do as the king did. I didn't just look at it and read some few sentences. You need to read the whole book to find what you are looking for. I have read it before, as I said, but I haven't connected the information with what was happening.

"That light thing outside. I know now what it is. We were right when we said that it had something to do with Dark and Krad. It had something to do with them. They are the light and the darkness. Where Krad is light, Dark is – as his name – dark. Both dark and light exist and they can't live without each other. It's the same thing as you can't have a shadow if you don't have a light source."

Satoshi paused and looked at Daisuke and he looked back. Daisuke gave a small nod for him to continue. What he was saying made some sense and maybe Satoshi had found something to help them. But to help them they needed to find them and soon.

"Go on," he said.

"You are with me?"

"Yes."

"All right," Satoshi said and took a deep breath. "As I said dark and light can't live without each other and the same thing is with the Mousy and Hikari families. The heir of Mousy can't live without meeting the heir of Hikari. If they have to; they'll die at the age of twenty. To survive they just need to touch each other once in a while and that's it.

"But at some time the two families got separated and they didn't meet each others any more. I don't know the history about that. Anyway, when the families got separated they had to have an heir before their twentieth birthday. Sometime during this time of separation and now a prophecy was made. And that prophecy is in this book."

Satoshi stopped talking and held up the book. Daisuke looked at him as he went through the book to find the prophecy.

"The prophecy itself can't be connected to the Hikari and Mousy families but as it is written you know for sure that it is about them."

Daisuke watched as Satoshi placed a finger in the middle of a page.

"There it is. It is a two part prophecy. The first part sounds like this:

"Dark times will come. We will lose a great war but we won't lose hope. When the times are the darkest, the families of light and dark will find each other. In the last second their wings will come out. On those wings peace will fly.

"The second part is something else.

"When light and dark are connected the signal will be send all over the world. When the signal is seen the turn is near. But be on your guard it isn't over. To win the war light and dark must work together to vanish the threat to the peace."

When the second part was read silence followed.

"Doesn't it talk against itself?" Daisuke asked. "The second part I mean. It says when dark and light are connected a signal will be sent out. And we saw that signal. That means that Dark and Krad are together. But it also said that they needed to work together to vanish the threat. But if they are connected shouldn't they already work together. If they don't want to work together they shouldn't be able to be connected."

Satoshi watched him for a few seconds and looked like he was thinking what he had said over.

"You have a point there. But I don't think it's anything we need to take to heart. I saw both of them at home. They didn't want to hurt each other, they cleaned each others wounds and wanted nothing else than the other one to be all right. But we don't have time to think this over at the moment. We need to find them."

Not one more word was said between them as they started to run through the hallways. They didn't care if they ran past anyone. Their only thoughts were with their brothers and the need to find them.

"Satoshi," Daisuke said and stopped.

Satoshi stopped a few steps ahead of him. "What?" he asked.

"I feel something," he whispered. "We need to go that way." He pointed down an empty hallway in almost the opposite direction they had run. "They are down there. I can feel them. Can't you?"

Satoshi looked like he tried to feel something but soon shook his head. Daisuke smiled a sad smile at him. "Don't worry then and just follow me."

Before Satoshi had a chance to respond he started to run down the hallway he had pointed at. He was sure they where down there somewhere. His feelings had never been wrong. Not that he had had one in a very long time. But he couldn't turn his back on this one.

Daisuke felt relief when he heard another pair of feet behind him. Satoshi followed him. And that meant that Satoshi trusted him, at least a little.

OoOoOoO

The king gave up on finding something. He had been trough all the book he had found having a connection with the Hikari and Mousy families, but nothing had came up and now he gave up. Well… he gave up for the day. He wanted to go back to his new slaves.

A small smile came to his lips. His slaves. He liked those words; he liked how they sounded. He was going to check on them before continuing his research.

He left the library and the stack of books on the ground and left for the room he had left his slaves. It took him less then ten minutes to walk the way.

But when he put the key in the keyhole he noticed something. The door wasn't locked.

Quickly he opened the door and to his worst thoughts, the room was empty. How was that even possible? He was sure he had locked the door. Why hadn't he been smart enough to put guard outside the door too? Maybe because his guards had mysteriously started to disappear, just like his followers? It was like something worked against him.

With one last look around the room he opened his mouth and screamed in rage before he ran from the room. He needed to find his slaves.

OoOoOoO

Dark and Krad ran trough hallway after hallway. They didn't know how to get out of there and there was no clue for them to see. They weren't sure for how long they had been running around, but they started to get tired and their wings were almost in the way. They felt like they didn't help them to speed up; rather they slowed them down…

Another turn came up but they ran straight ahead.

"Dark, wait." Krad suddenly said and stopped running.

Dark stopped to and turned around. "What? Did you hear something? Is someone after us?"

"No," Krad said even if it looked like he was listening to something. "But I feel something. Come this way."

Before Dark even had a chance to answer Krad started to run and Dark had no choice but to follow.

"What do you feel?" he asked when he reached the blond.

"Someone that is looking for us."

"And you run just to them?" Dark looked at him like he had lost his head.

"Yes," was Krad's answer. "I feel that we know them. Stop talking and keep running."

Dark didn't comment and continued to run beside Krad.

He didn't like it but what could he say?

What happened then was a big surprise but not just for him. When he and Krad ran around a corner they ran strait into someone. Or it was two some ones.

"Dark!"

When his name was shouted he looked up and met a pair of eyes he didn't think he would ever see again, at least not after he and Krad had been moved from the Hikari household.

Before he had a chance to respond he had his arms full with a red haired boy and he hadn't felt that happy in a long time. Everything around him disappeared but he didn't care. He had his brother near again and that was all that mattered, right now.

"Daisuke," he whispered in the red haired boy's hair. "What are you doing here?"

"Me and Satoshi are here to rescue you and Krad and to help you."

"Help us?" Dark looked up and met his brother's red eyes. "With what?"

"Defeating the king."

OoOoOoO
