Good news I'm still alive and college math classes are the best place to write in!
Mai was found the following morning, they had killed her quickly knowing that they would get no useful information out of the woman. Jono cried for the loss of his friend in silence when on of the guards had informed Set at breakfast. Jono was going to miss the woman, she was like a sister to him, always looking out for him and protecting him no matter the cost to herself.
"Jono." Set voice cut through the thoughts that had begun to take over Jono's mind. Jono looked up at the man. "Follow me." Jono followed silently. "Sit." Set gestured to his bed before he left the room.
Jono watched him leave, he was confused to put it bluntly. Why had Set brought him to his room if all he was going to do was leave? Jono rolled his eyes as he started to think about Set. Taking a seat on the bed he allowed his thoughts to wander to Set. He was not the worst man in the world, Jono had been treated worse by some when he was a free men. Jono did not think kind was a proper word to describe the priest. He was practical a realist, which Jono found a bit strange given that he was a priest. But that was another matter. Was he kind no but he was fair and in the long run that might be better for Jono than kind, for kindness can change but when one is guided by what is fair they are harder to fool.
There were other things that Jono admired in the priest. His eyes, first of all. They reminded Jono of the sea he had crossed when he fled Rome, at first he feared the sea but over time he fell in love with the sea. He first feared those eyes when he looked into them but the just like the sea he fell in love with those eyes. He wanted to know why they pierced his skin like ice. He wanted to know all of the secrets they guarded.
He admired the way he spoke with confidence and determination. He admired the way he cared for his brother. He admired his vast knowledge of the kingdom and it's people. Jono wanted to see the priest speak when he was unsure of himself;he wanted the priest to care for him, he wanted to know what the priest thought of Rome,of Egypt ,of Carthage (1), of Greece,of the world.
He wanted so much yet he knew he would be able to achieve so little. Jono sighed, he did not know how long he had been alone in the Priest's room but he was starting to grow nervous. His thoughts were filled now of Set and by the gods he wanted to run from them. To hide from them as he did his fear. But his heart had other plans.
Set for once had no clue what to do. By the gods he was shaking! He forced out the breath he was hold. He had no reason to be nervous. Well okay he actually did have a reason to be nervous. Jono was in his bedroom waiting for him to do something or say something. Set hadn't even realized he what he was doing when he asked Jono to follow him. Telling him to wait in his room Set fled down the hall so he could try and think of something to say or do, but so far he had nothing. Of all the times to be stumped it had to be now! Set cursed his luck and took a deep breath before walking back into the room. Set takes a seat on the chair across from Jono.
"Why Egypt? He asks. Jono looks confused by his question. "Why run to Egypt? You could have fled to anywhere in the world, many of them much further away from Rome then Egypt. So why Egypt." Jono smiles as he leans back onto his arms.
"Two reasons actually." Jono closes his eyes and smiles happily. "The first is my father used to come here on business all the time when I was young. He told me so many stores of this place. Of the great Pharaohs, of the Nile, of the temples, of the palace, of the pyramids, and of your gods. I simply fell in love. So when I had to run I figured it might be the only time I have left to see the place I had fallen I love with when I was little." Set can feel his heart stop at the loving look that crosses Jono's face. Perhaps he can convince the man to tell him those stories he remembers. Anything to see that look on the other's face again.
"And the second reason is?" Jono cracks an eye open and stares at Set.
"I felt my magic drawing me here, drawing me to Yugi and the others. But I felt that pull in many directions, some were still in Rome some in Asia. But the one here in Egypt was the strongest and I knew I could not ignore it."Jono frowns as thoughts of the cult enter his mind once again. Did he really want the priest to die for him on this suicide quest? No, no he didn't. "None of you should have offered to help us. You could die and then where would your people be." Set scowls at the blond.
"And what about you? Don't you have as much of a chance to die as I do? Is your life not worth as much as mine?" Set could feel himself getting angry at the blond. "You are a child of a god! Your life is worth more than mine, that is for sure." Set sighs leaning back into his chair. "Your life is worth much more than you think god born." Jono smiles as his face heats up at the priest words.
"Do you have any ideas on how to locate these people?" Jono changes the topic before his face heats up anymore. Set sighs.
"I need a name if you want me to do a location spell again." Jono bites his lip, he gets up and paces the room. "Let me guess you have no name and you also have no idea where to find any of them." Jono's face reddens in embarrassment, he shakes his head.
"Mai didn't have time to tell me any names. Even if she did they knew she was her so they could have know the name as well so that person might have turned up dead as well. But Ryou might be able help, he's magic is that strong but he is one of the best when it comes to location spells." Jono flops down on the bed. A location spell done by Ryou would need a physical object. "But all of that would need a physical object not a name, and since we don't have either we've hit a dead end." Jono groans at his realization. They're back to square one.
1-Conquered by Rome in the Third Punic War (149 – 146 BC) Carthage was the capital of the Carthaginian Civilization.
So I have kind've dated my story...whoops. Meh whatever.
