DEFINATE SPOILERS FOR CP2!
Ok guys, this is it! But stay tuned, and read my A/N at the end for a little surprise...
Disclaimer- I own nothing but the plot and my little surprise...
I should probably stop saying the word surprise...
Tessa clenched her eyes shut, not wanting to remember what happened next.
It'd been twenty years, and today was her day, surely she should be happy?
She shouldn't dwell on the past, although she knew Will did all too often. He was never the same. It'd been twenty years, but he still found himself looking through Jem's old violin music, still turned around to say something to the boy who was no longer beside him.
She couldn't keep down the images that swirled through her mind every night.
Red. Red all over him, matted in clumps in his shining hair, red around his mouth, on his hands, on Will.
Will, who had his hand digging into Jem's shoulder, was the only thing that was holding Jem up as his head drooped suddenly.
Tessa didn't feel the scream escape her throat and didn't feel the tears springing to her eyes.
Clary was beside Tessa in an instant, as was Izzy. Izzy took one look at the scene through the window and sprinted to get the doctors from the school infirmary.
Clary was silent, as she too regarded the scene with terror.
Will was checking Jem's pulse frantically, yelling something Tessa couldn't quite make out.
Jace emerged from the bathroom, wearing nothing but his jeans. He froze when he saw Jem.
Will collapsed to his knees by the bed, not letting go of Jem's wrist as he fell.
Jace sprinted from the room.
Tessa and Clary still didn't move, and neither did Will.
Not when the doctors arrived with a bed on wheels. Not when one of them shook Will. Not when two of them attempted to drag Will from Jem. They didn't get resistance, he came.
A female doctor entered their room. "Is Cecily Herondale-" She began, but took one look at Tessa and Clary and told them to follow her.
Will had been at school, but he hadn't done anything. Not for a day, which turned into a week, which turned into a month. He rarely came for meals, and even then he'd take a bite of food before leaving.
He never spoke, he never paid attention to anyone. He never seemed alive, he seemed as dead as Jem was.
One day, he and Magnus weren't in school. Then that turned into two days. Then three. Then they had returned, Will looking alive again.
Will had told Tessa everything. About his curse, his sister's death, Jem's illness, his behaviour, everything. He'd told her he wasn't cursed anymore, and confessed his true feelings for her, telling her that even though he'd never had a real conversation, he felt like he knew her.
So he got to know her. And twenty years later, he had proposed.
"Tessa?" Sophie asked carefully, yanking Tessa out of her daydream. She looked at the destroyed letter in her hands, and wanted to weep. She hadn't meant to rip it, but she had. The letter from the only person that made her feel truly human, the night Will had cast her away during a night that was meant to be a fun sleepover. The letter posted under a door as if they were children. A letter from the one boy who truly deserved to have everything and had nothing.
The kind silver eyes in her mind changed to the mischievous cerulean orbs she knew like her own.
"It's time." Clary added. "Jace is here with the umbrella." She laughed.
Tessa smiled when she saw them. Clary's curly fiery hair wasn't tamed on Tessa's request, and Sophie was showing her scar.
Because no one was perfect, Tessa had come to learn that over the years. Everyone had a fault. And Clary's hair was Clary's least favourite feature, Sophie's scar was the thing Sophie hated.
…But Tessa never saw it. Jace never found anything wrong with Clary, Gideon would see Sophie's inner beauty.
Tessa couldn't help the smile form on her lips as Izzy and Cecily appeared in a whirl of red silk dresses, flowers and beauty.
Tessa shook her head. What was she thinking, asking them to be her bridesmaids?
She'd look terrible next to them all. She looked at the way the deep red dresses complimented their perfect figures beautifully, the way the red complimented Clary's eyes breathtakingly, the way it mixed with Sophie's chocolate brown hair was stunning.
Perhaps that'd be why people thought Tessa had chosen the bridesmaid dresses to be red.
…But no.
Will had chosen them, and had been very insistent on the colour red and green for the colour schemes.
He had even chosen Tessa's dress for the occasion, which Tessa hadn't seen until today- Tessa's heart had stopped when she'd seen it.
It was gold. It was delicate and floaty, with gold roses down the back. And when Tessa had put it on, her heart stopped again.
It'd looked like it was made for her.
Jace had met her by the door with an umbrella- it was raining and Jace had to escort her to the car.
He grinned when he saw her. "I think I should be the one walking you down the aisle, you'd match me perfectly."
Tessa smiled. "Why gold? Do you know why he picked gold?"
Jace's smile flickered. "He was wearing white the day Jem passed. The sun was shining as well." He gestured to the storm.
Tessa's heart thudded at Will's careful planning. She'd presumed the rain was just a stroke of bad luck, but even the date had been carefully planned.
Jace gave a smile again. "The green and red was planned too." He told her as they walked towards the car...well. Limousine."There's a rhyme that the Herondale's have always used." He looked thoughtful. "Cecily quoted it on the night of your 'ascension'." He laughed at the memory. "She told you why black was worn. But green- green's for mending broken hearts. In marrying you, Will's heart has healed from when he had to break yours years ago."
Tessa's heart was still thudding. "Why red?" She asked. "Is that for romance, or something?" She asked.
Jace laughed. "You're a world renowned author, and you can't find a better way of wording that than 'or something'?"
Tessa shot him a glare.
Jace's laughter flickered into a smile. "No, reds different." He said, as the smile disappeared altogether. "There was a lot of thought in that. He wanted a colour which green went with naturally, because he wanted to symbolise how you and him went together as easily as breathing. He wanted the colour to be lucky in Chinese culture. He wanted a colour to symbolise sacrifice and living." He shook his head as his smile returned. "Red and green go together with roses. Red symbolizes good fortune and joy in Chinese culture. Red is the colour of blood, which is used in sacrifices and what keeps you alive." He sighed. "Red was also Jem's favourite colour. And, if you haven't guessed already, Jem was Chinese."
Tessa felt the tears come to her eyes. Will had requested one thing from her- to let him plan the wedding. Tessa had agreed, and didn't regret a single moment yet. And she doubted she would. The effort placed into the colour scheme alone…
"Are you ready?" A voice asked from behind her, making Tessa break into a smile.
Magnus, in all his glittery-goodness, was standing beside her.
Tessa nodded as she took his arm. Magnus was taking her down the aisle. Her mother had died of cancer a few years ago, and his father had wanted nothing to do with her since then.
When she felt the organ playing, she smiled again. Will had kept it original, despite the gold dress.
"Today will be the best day of your life." Magnus assured her as they began walking to the doors.
Tessa smiled. "I know."
Magnus laughed. "No, I mean, even if you weren't getting married."
Tessa's smile turned into a puzzled frown.
Magnus laughed again. "Smile, it's your wedding day. But make sure to pay close attention to the best man."
Tessa's smile flooded into her face when the doors opened.
Hell, this was good.
Roses lined the aisle, rose petals were on the floor. The room was clean and bright, the guests all in blue.
Magnus laughed softly at her side. "Another of their rhyme. Blue- being when lost return."
"But I wasn't lost." Tessa said, her smile widening when she saw the man at the alter.
Magnus laughed again. "Somehow, dear, I don't think it was you that it was for."
"Then who-" Tessa began, when the man at the alter turned around, and words failed to leave her mouth.
He looked beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. But Tessa paid no attention to the deep shirt, the loose suit, the dark shoes, the little things. Her eyes were only on his smile, and the blinding happiness was shown not only in his smile- but his eyes. They were blazing. Tessa had never seen them blaze that bright before- not even when she'd accepted his proposal.
The man next to him turned around, his smile as bright as Will's.
Tessa's smooth rhythm which she was using to walk failed as she stumbled when she saw Will's best man.
The moment Tessa laid eyes on the man beside Will, his smile became brighter.
The man's almond shaped bronze-black eyes were shining happily, his smile as wide as a Cheshire cat's, making his cheekbones stretch, making the scars on his cheeks stand out. He was taller, tanned, more muscular, and no-where near as thin as Tessa remembered. And he looked as if he hadn't aged, he seemed twenty at the most.
…He was almost un-recognisable. But Tessa would know the smile anywhere.
Jem.
She felt the tears spring to her eyes as she came to the alter, and Will took her hand.
"Tessa Gray-" The priest began.
Tessa wasn't paying attention. Her eyes were on the boy she'd loved since she'd first lay her eyes on him, and the boy who'd crept up on her. The boy who was supposedly dead.
She'd be lying if she said she didn't care for Jem, even if she were marrying Will. She felt like she loved Jem as a friend, as a brother. He'd been the first to truly accept her arrival at this school, even before Clary.
…She loved Will like a friend, like a husband. He understood her, made her laugh, made her smile, made her Tessa. His love of books and memory of poetry could make her cry with happiness. He was Will. Will was Tessa.
They were each other.
"I do." Tessa breathed.
"You may now ki-" The priest began, but Tessa paid no attention to him, as she and Will collided in a kiss.
Jem's bright laughter filled the church, and Tessa found it a more beautiful sound than the instruments playing.
Tessa and Will had the same thought at the same moment.
This, they thought, is perfect.
As I have said multiple times- my Wessa-ing sucks.
BUT...
THIS ISN'T THE FINAL CHAPTER!
I decided on one more, for a dedicated reviewer (and Jem fan!) who I won't name in case she doesn't want me too. But, like promised, I saved Jem!
Anyway, it may also contain spoilers for CP2, because it features a certain golden-eyed BLACK haired boy.
You understand it better if you've read the midnight heir from the Bane chronicles, but it really won't matter.
I'll put it up if this gets ONE review
...Just one?
...And i'll end up posting it anyway, you know what i'm like :)
Reviews are ALWAYS APPRIECIATED, EVEN WHEN THIS IS DONE!
