Dream about the Red River
Ilion
"Welcome to the house pf Demetrius!" Lida exclaimed.
"Demetrius?" I asked, still looking around. The place is magnificent, it's huge and the walls are clearly smoothened up to the smoothest it could get. There are intricate carvings that decorate the sides and corners of the wall. Stones of different colors gave elegance and life to it. Though simple it's very beautiful.
"It was long ago. A great leader named his house and well, clan after his youngest son who died from a plague. Demetrius was still such a young man, as legend states, but he has done things that earned the hearts of his relatives. His death was the beginning of the house's rise, well I mean, his relatives began working together for they loved Demetrius more than their misunderstanding with one another. Demetrius has always helped them, thus they returned it to him through rebuilding the name of their clan. And now here we are! Lots of years from then and his clan now flourished! So this is now the house of Demetrius." She explained as she guided me through the halls, glancing at every wall that seems to breathe.
I could taste the history in the air surrounding me. It's as if a lot really happened here and somehow the emotions of those events lingered through the walls. I imagine a fight had occurred here long ago that's why there's a small crack on the wall, it's color darker than the rest. A sword must have pierced through a person, pinning him exactly there with his blood tainting the wall. But then again that could just be me and my frickin' wild imagination. Oh wow, it's like I've got two personalities right now. First I speak like, I dunno a scholar or something from the old era or whatever and then there's this really informal way of speaking. Huh, it's funny and weird that I don't know why and how I'm like this.
"I see." I mumbled.
"Yes, yes. Now our duty is to keep this clean and provide happiness to the masters!" She stopped right in front of a large door. Oh so typical.
"Masters?" I asked. Of course, the large door, I mean, what else would be the symbol that 'hey you're gonna get to meet the boss of this palace' but the large door!
"We clean, cook, entertain if you've got talents and well, serve them." Lida is really energetic for a woman her age.
"Basically, we're slaves?" I don't like the term, really I don't. But the way she said it and how I see the world right now… Well the time period I mean, it's most likely a slave.
Wait, what is a time period?
I don't know what I'm saying… and it's getting creepy.
"By the gods! No! Slaves are not the correct name for us! We are his servants!" Lida looks horrified with what I've said.
"Whuuuut's the difference?" I looked at her as if she said something funny. Well yeah, she did. I mean, servants means slaves… right?
"It's different! We are not tortured, not sold, not sacrificed and we have a choice! We get to eat food on the table, drink clean water and have clothes appropriate for the weather! Slaves do not get those privileges! Slaves are… they're lower than animals!" She said, clearly defending her masters, which I guess would become my masters too. Wow, I never thought I'd sign up for this kind of job.
Wait what?
"Forgive me. I know nothing about things like that…" I trailed. I really am getting confused.
"Forgiven. Now, shall we meet the masters?"
"After I take breath."
"Shush! They're good." And with that she opened the door.
I am expecting a throne, guards or maybe just a guard, a king or a ruler, the queen and I dunno, a dog? I really dunno why I just think that. I mean what the hell is wrong with me?
Entering the large room, I first noticed a boy about my age, well a little older standing in the middle of the room, his eyes bright with joy scanned the room. Then I noticed a girl younger than I running around as a tiny boy maybe the age of 2 try to make his way towards the little lady.
"Galatea, get Kyrios and enough of that. We have a visitor. Good day Lida." The guy smiled.
"Good day Master Andreas! I found this girl unconscious, wounded and starving near the garden, she lost her memories and has only regained consciousness after I had healed some of her wounds. I named her Adara." So it would seem I was knocked unconscious. Did I fight somebody that is so ruthless to beat a girl like me to the brink of death? Ok, well not really brink of death but… ugh. Whatever.
"I pray you a blessed day, my lords and my lady." I curtsied when their eyes fell on me. Wow, what the hell is this bow?
"You have an unusual way of addressing us, Adara." Andreas said, looking at me from head to toe.
"Forgive me if I upset you, masters."
"Oh no you don't! It's unusual, I've never heard of it." Galatea smiled, gave Kyrios to Andreas and made her way towards me, brushing a stray hair from my face. "My, you look so fragile." She told me.
"Uh, thanks? Anyway, never heard of it, my lady? I think I have been acquainted to this way of addressing before, I don't remember but I feel nostalgic."
"Nostalgic?" both Andreas and Galatea asked.
"A feeling of remembering, Master."
"Stick with your words, Adara, I am very much amused by it. Galatea, stop scaring the poor girl." Galatea then returned beside Andreas.
"As you wish, My Lord."
"Welcome then, to the house of Demetrius."
"I give you all my thanks, My lords, my lady."
So I guess I'm officially a servant now.
==========Dream about the Red River==========
"You speak so weird in front of them." Lida said as she guided me towards my room.
"I know right? It's weird how I became polite and all that shit but it just popped out of my lips and it's funny too actually. Gets me all butler-like!" She then stared at me as if I said something weird.
"Yes, you are unusual indeed. You speak so many words I do not understand. Well, here we are. I'll deliver your clothes by tomorrow morning, as of now you can wear these. I hope they fit." She handed me this dirt colored cloth and closed the door.
Yeahp, I feel weird. I've been spouting lord and lady all over as if I'm somewhere in Europe when I clearly am not! Wait, Europe? What is that?
I began to change my clothes and thank God it fit! I was about to lie down and rest when I heard a knock on my door.
"Uhh, come in?"
A girl my age with short golden brown hair entered. She offered me a cup of water and a smile, which I returned gratefully.
"Hello, you must be Adara." She said in the tiniest voice I've ever heard.
"Yeah, that's me. And you are?"
"Talya. I- I own the dress you are w-wearing." She mumbled and pointed at my clothes.
"Oh! I am so sorry! Do you like gotta uhh take it or something?"
"Oh no! I just- well- I wanted to introduce myself." What's up with her stutter-mouth?
"Ah… Cool! So what do you want to talk about?" I asked and Talya immediately beamed and sat beside me.
"Is it true you lost your memories?" Her face inches from mine as she asked that question.
"Yuhp, it's as true as the sun is hot." I gave her an awkward smile and inched away from her. I guess she understood that she's way too close it's so awkward.
"So you do not remember where you got that scar?"
"Scar?"
"Right above your eyebrows, there's this huge gash but it's healing. It's not yet a scar but I think it would become one. I mean it looks kinda deep for it to not turn into a scar. It might even look like a battle scar with how deep it is. I am surprised the blow that gave you that wound did not crack your skull! So yeah, it's a scar. I mean it will soon be so why not just call it a scar already?" She blabbered, moving her hands to her forehead and made an exaggerated slash.
"Oh, that helped man. Like whoa thanks." I said, sarcasm rolling off my tongue. What happened to the stutter-shy girl? She looked worried for a while and walked towards the door.
"Well, uhm, we are expected to clean up the hall by the garden for the arrival of the Priestess from the Mitanni, so I'll uh, go ahead. I'll see you there?" She said, holding onto the door' handle.
"Yah, I'll be there in a while." And with that she left.
I touched my forehead and true enough there's an ugly engraved bulk whatever on it. A huge whatever that felt like a gash. Well it is one. Sigh.
I began staring at my dress and found it difficult to move around. I went out of the room and searched for Lida, hoping she could help me with my problem. I think I've never worn something like this. It is irritating, I can't move my legs freely and it's too warm!
"Lida!" I found her and she immediately looked my way.
"Why Adara!"
"Hey uhm I don't want to be such a bi…atch but can I get a pair of pants instead of a dress. I can't move freely." I begged her. Whoa I almost said bitch and from the way she looked when I said the first two letters… scary.
"You what?"
"Uhm, a boy's clothes?" And to my surprise, Lida laughed.
"I don't have one but my son has an extra pair would you like to use it? It could be tiny." She has son. Whew, I didn't expect that. Well a lady her age… Possible.
"I can sew!"
"That's great! Wait here, I'll go get it for you."
"Thank you so much!"
I waited for what seemed like 10 minutes before Lida came with a small basket.
"Here you go. See you at the hall right after that alright?"
"I'll be there as soon as possible." I said and waved her goodbye.
Time to do my thing.
==========Dream about the Red River==========
Lida's son's clothes are pretty short. I think he's around 6 years old. I had to cut and stitch and cut and stitch just to make shorts. But anyway, it's done and it's cool.
I made my way towards the great hall where I'm supposed to clean. The moment I entered, noise molested my ears. Like girls and boys and ladies and guys and oldies! THEY'RE ALL NOISY!
"Adie!" I heard a voice call. Oh come on, it better not be Talya. Oh she did not just give me that nickname.
True enough I saw the curly fries haired girl running towards me, well bouncing actually. Wait, curly fries?
"Adi-ari! You made it to the hall! I thought you will get lost you know cause this house is enormous it is almost like the palaces of the Hittites! Well of course except for the concubines you see master Andreas is not that much of a greedy man to take a lot of breasts in his home! Oh what am I talking about! You should go get your cleaning things by the door! There are-"
"Thank you Talya for that useless chatter. Now go continue cleaning." A girl with waist long hair in a braid and ruby eyes cut Talya's blabber. Thank the gods for sending this vampiric angel for me!
Vampi- what?
"Thank you for that rescue."
"Heh. She gets under everyone's nose." She laughed. She held up a bucket of water and a rag in front of me, shaking it like a kid. Well, a boy kid.
"Get to cleaning Adiari, I'll follow you so go straight to that window. I need help for that." She used her thumb to point at the window by her left side and gave me a grin. She's boyish. Like real boyish.
"Oh wait! It's not Adiari. Talya just, i dunno what she ate to call me that. Lida named me Adara." I said and gave her a smile.
"Oh. No wonder I thought it's ugly, knowing Talya. Nice to meet you and welcome to the house of Demetrius of Ilion Adara! Name's Zale!" She said and playfully kneeled in front of me.
"Lol. Get up and get your own bucket!" I said and pushed her playfully. She lost her balance and I hurriedly ran to the window.
"That's my bucket!" Wow. Somehow this feels like high school all over again… High school?
"It's mine now, pumpkin!"
And she laughed.
