Chapter 12
Sword of truth
A few days later Will was sitting with the three unconscious wolf - children while he waited for Halt's spell to be finished. Will knew that Raven would do a good job and that the spell would work but that didn't stop the worry that crossed his mind. Would Halt really be okay? What would he look like as a wolf? Would he like it? or would he regret it later? Will was not sure but he was happy that his father was staying with him for he could not imagine his life without him now.
Will watched a s one of the human wolves moved, he was growling softly in his sleep. Only to eventually say "Collin, don't move. If we don't move they will not see us". Will realized that was Brandon, Collin's brother that had said that and that they must have been out hunting or something when they were captured. Next to him Collin was now whining softly in response to his brother. Were all the wolf children have stories like this? Will hoped that they could live with what had happened to them now that they were sort of human.
Will now turned his gaze to the other human wolf in the room only to find he was awake, and watching him too. Will and Jason continued to look at each other until one decided to break the silence.
"So you were right and we were humans to start with too" Jason said, his eyes now looking at his human hands marveling at what they looked like.
"Yes I was" Will answered and was just about to say something else when in that moment he heard the only sound that would reach him. The only sound that he would respond too.
Halt's cry
In the wizard's spell room, Halt was laying down on a wooden table. He could tell the spell that Raven had just done on him was working. With each beat of his heart he could feel his straining muscle as they changed shape and then that world imploded upon him. In the searing pain, he clutched his arms across his abdomen. The noise that came out of his mouth sounded like a howl, which was answered by another howl.
"Will" Halt thought, how had Will and the others survived this? he was not sure but he knew in his mind that he was going to survive it too.
Fire burned through every muscle, bone and organ of his body, consuming him, taking his breath from his lungs, choking him in consuming agony. Then he felt a soft fur brush up against him. A smell that accustomed that fur was welcome and it eased the pain.
Halt heard Raven say "its alright. He is through the worst of it. You don't have to be afraid for your father, dear boy"
Will was afraid for him? obviously his change was different than the ones the others had been through but if the worst was over then he would be alright and he could start to plan what he and the others were to do now. As this helped to take the pain away as well as the presents of his son, even in his wolf form.
Halt woke the next day to find Will sitting at the end of his bed in human form. But now as Halt looked at himself he could see that he was not human anymore. A soft chocolate brown fur coat met his eyes and he could feel his tail starting to move under him.
"Will how do I look?" Halt asked trying to get to his feet but finding it hard because the bed was too soft.
"Like a brown wolf" Will replied, as Halt finally got to his feet and jumped down to the floor. Will laughed softly as he tripped a little, trying to walk on his four paws.
"Oh ha ha very funny. I am sure that when you were trying to walk for the first time you fell and tripped a lot too. Whether you had four feet or two"said Halt and Will watched as Halt raised a furry eyebrow. That would never change.
The human wolf child laugh out loud now. He just could not hold it in, a moment later Halt join in. It was to this laughter that Raven walked in on. To see a chocolate brown wolf and a wolf child like this was too cute for words, the father and son were obviously bonding over their wolf-en - ness.
"Well isn't this a sight to see. Two wolves. Two clumsy wolves in my castle" said Raven as the two wolves he was talking about, turned to look at him.
"Raven. What are you going to do about the witch Shotaha. She will not take what we did lightly" said Halt.
The Happiness over watching the two wolves, faded from Raven's eyes and dimmed his mood as he thought about his worry and the difficulties that lay ahead because of that witch.
"That be true. Whether she comes now or she waits, is only known to her. All people have secrets, those who use magic have more than most" Raven told them "but I fear no secret of a person I trust and I know I can trust the two of you. It is part of being friends".
Halt grinned, a wolfy grin and then said " well as your friend I would like to help you out. As you know home is not possible for any of us now. No matter how much we might want it. So I propose that we make this place our home and help you defend it" Halt said.
"Defend it how?" Raven asked. He could see that Will wanted that answer too.
"By creating our own wolf rangers" came the answer.
An: so did that answer some of your questions hope so. More soon.
