AUTHOR'S NOTE:
Okay, so this isn't really a super huge, important note, just kind of like a goal. That's right. I'm setting a goal for myself. Yay for punctuality. Or something.
My goal for myself (you guys getting excited yet? It's like New Years Eve all over again!) for the rest of this story is to post two chapters a week. One on weekends, and one during the week.
I posted this for you so that you all can remind me if (okay fine, "when") I try to skip out on posting during the week. I give you permission to pm me like "Hey remember your goals GIRL."
Okay I swear I'm done being weird and a real person for now. Enjoy!
After a moment of (rather awkward) silence, Luna cleared her throat, causing Myrtle's head to jerk up. "Um... I think I need to get to the common room... people probably think I die- erm that something happened to me." She said, quickly amending her (almost) death reference in front of the particularly sensitive ghost.
Myrtle's shoulders drooped. "Yes, I suppose so..." She sniffled. Was Myrtle...crying?
"What's wrong?" Luna asked.
"Nothing."
"Bull, Myrtle, there's obviously something wrong!"
Myrtle huffed. "Fine, if you must know. People actually come here a lot. I've met all sorts of people in this bathroom. Every single time, I'm there for them when they need it. I am their shoulder to cry on. And they always leave, promising to visit me when they can. They never come back. Any of them. So yes, I guess you could say something's wrong."
Luna gaped, but then quickly recovered. That was the most she'd ever heard Myrtle say. She wasn't quite sure what the appropriate reaction was, or how she should respond. Her social situation guide books hadn't really covered neglected ghosts.
"Oh, geez. I'm sorry Myrtle, but I really do have to go, you know. I really will try to visit you every so often. If I go for too long without coming to see you, you can visit me, if you like. I won't mind."
Myrtle brightened at the suggestion. "All right! Now how about I show you back to the common room?"
When she got back, Luna was instantly on the defensive, ready for the worst.
Only... nothing happened. Nobody was even there. Was she missing something? Dinner? Maybe an evening class that she hadn't known about? The answer came when she chanced a glance out the window. It was dark. Like, middle-of-the-night, dark. The stars shone clear in the sky, looking as if someone had taken pieces of the sun and thrown them up into the sky. So all of her peers must be...
"Sleeping."
Luna whirled around, her long platinum hair giving her whiplash.
She felt herself stiffen as she recognized those deep, blue eyes.
"VelvetShadow."
"Luna." VelvetShadow smirked.
"Look, I'm really not in the mood to fight you right now. Could you please taunt me in the morning?"
"Actually, surprising as it is, I didn't come here to taunt you."
"Right."
"No seriously, just here me out. I figure we can't avoid each other, because we're basically bonded together or something...so we might as well be friends?"
Luna didn't bother to hide her disgust.
"Friends? I don't think I could ever be friends with you after what you said..."
"What I said?!" VelvetShadow started to argue, then calmed down.
"Look, I understand you're upset, and you have every right to be, but we should at least be civil to each other. Otherwise, this year's going to be miserable for you." She took a breath. "And me," She added as an afterthought.
That made sense, Luna figured. At least it would keep all her peers off her ass about her own Pegasus hating her.
"Deal?
"Deal."
