Before you guys read this please know that the song Little Wonders was by Rob Thomas and appeared in the movie Meet the Robinsons. The story I wrote for the song was made by me. So it may sound confusing but it will make sense in the future but it really isn't think important to the story, this was just for fun to help Hiro grow. Enjoy :)
The SFIT Showcase won't be around yet for 4 months. This should give Hiro enough time to build his super awesome project for Professor Callaghan but he couldn't. He feels like nothing is coming to his brain and feels useless. Bruises formed on his forehead caused by the frustration against his desk. And let's not forget the bump on his head when Tadashi carried him upside down to help look for a new angle, it ended in a new damage to the brain. A few days go by after taking Tadashi's advice into looking for a new angle. What inspired him was his tiny robot, Megabot, and thought about creating tinier ones with a greater ability. An ability where you can control a robot telepathically. Microbots, that's what he was going to name them.
Three weeks go by as Hiro develops the concept blueprints for the design and the materials needed.
There are three months left until the showcase and Tadashi comes to the garage everyday to check on Hiro and assist him in whatever Hiro wanted.
Two months and the whole gang comes in once in a while to accompany Hiro for support and to assure him for breaks once in a while. They had a few night outs and they were some of the best days of Hiro's life. His favorite will be the night where he went back to the San Fransokyo Annual Fair event with the gang and was extremely entertained by the actions and behavior of the college students. They acted like teenagers! Gogo kept harassing Wasabi from the 'germs' she picked up from the rides, Honey and Tadashi got really competitive over carnival games, resulting in Honey having an obsession to win all the pink fluffy animals, and Fred… let's just say he almost got the group kicked out of the amusement for attacking a cosplayer and hopping bumper cars. What really amused Hiro were the chants and embarrassing songs they would publicly sing obnoxiously. Hiro couldn't help but join in on all the fun the group had and getting to know Tadashi's friends. Tadashi was happy that his friends were also having a great time with Hiro and they weren't faking it! He can truly see that the freaks loved him and wanted to keep him around. They wanted him to be part of what Fred would call the "Big 6."
One more month rolls in and Hiro is almost done with his planned presentation, but he was exhausted. Tadashi would check on his baby brother every hour to see if Hiro was experiencing any awful symptoms. He also have to help Hiro take his medication since Hiro was completely zombified to finish his project. One night, Tadashi took Hiro out to their usual spot in the park let Hiro relax from his project. They sat in complete bliss and inhaled the fresh air of the nearby ocean. Although Hiro was confident in his invention he couldn't help but feel worthless again. He thought about how Tadashi's robot was amazing and is something very useful. What if Hiro's microbots weren't successful? What if he doesn't make the admission to the school? As always, Tadashi sensed his brother's mood change and spoke to his brother. "Your project is going to be awesome during the showcase."
Hiro looked up to his brother. How did he know?
"Trust me, you've been working so hard and who knows, maybe someone might buy it off of you."
"They can do that?"
"Technically Krei can. You know Krei Tech? The big guy visits our showcase every year to see what next hot invention he could get his hands on to make money. If you want my advice, don't sell your microbots to him."
"I don't know why he would want to buy off of me. He'll probably want Baymax."
"What makes you think that?"
"You're better than me. Everything you do, everyone loves it. I never could finish what I start. When I try to do something good no one acknowledges it. It's like they think I'll never accomplish anything."
"Hiro, don't you ever think so lowly of yourself. It's not always easy to please everyone and trust me I actually go through that. You will always be the best even if nobody sees it."
"What can I do then? What should I accomplish?"
"Have you thought about that poem I told you a few months again?" Tadashi asks changing the subject.
"Little Wonders? No."
"Yes, now stop worrying so much! Remember what I said, it's gonna take some time so don't expect to be the perfect person right away."
"You never told me the story behind the song." Hiro was curious about how his mom came up with the song.
Tadashi gazed out into the ocean. "There were two girls who only had two things that were very important. Each other and their thoughts. The lived in a non-sanitized house in the middle of nowhere under the care of a monster disguised as a man who had no intention of caring for the girls. Every night the girls dealt with the scary violence they saw from the man. They were always working with each other to keep each other safe. It was all they did but they didn't care because staying together was what mattered to them. It was the only thing that actually made them happy. That was all they could asked for. They always wondered why they were placed in his care and why the man have to shut off all contact from the outside to the girls. The only contact the girls would ever come across with from outside the house where birds. Birds were a symbolization of freedom. They wanted to be like the birds and soar away to places to wherever they please and never return. Even though the girls knew the monster did horrible things to them they never would fight back or try to go against him. 'Act like birds,' the older sister says, 'ignore the bad worm and look for others.'
"One night, the older sister allowed the hatred from the monster to consume her which allowed her to become upset and start acting like the man. She did the exact same thing to her sister which scared the girl who ran out of the house. Once the older sister got under control she snuck out of the house to find her sister. She found her by a river skipping pebbles in the water. The sister joined her for what seemed like hours they stood by the river. No matter how much they have gone through they loved each other and felt safe with one another but they knew they could not let the monster control their emotions. They could not live in a life of fear. What they needed to do was to help each other to stay happy that way they could not feel sad or mad.
"When the girls returned home the monster was ready to devour them. Instead of going in to face another day in the dark, they both turned around and ran away from the house as fast as they could. Luckily, the cornfield hid the girls to distract the monster to know where they were heading to. They kept running and running. They stopped by the river again and found a lost baby bird. For hours, the girls taught the bird how to fly and by the time the bird could stay in midair for three seconds it flew away. They watched the bird soar away and prayed for the safety of their friend. They slept by the river overnight and the next morning they woke up in a police station. From that day on, the girls were finally out of that crumbling nest and were free to spread their wings.
"Even though what they went through was over they constantly reminded each other to forget all the bad things that happened and cherish the good things. If it were not for the lost bird they would've never flown away with it. The twists and turns of fate they had to go through was what made them stronger. If the wind keeps them from where they want to go do be it. They have each other and together they became known as the little wonders who flew around in bliss with no worries."
"That's doesn't sound like a nice story to tell the kids."
"I know, but mom told me about it before she died. Pretty dark if you ask me. But she said not to worry because I'm not those girls and I am in good care. I should thankful for that."
"So what does the song mean?"
"It means you should appreciate the simple things in life. Do not worry too much about the stress. There's always something good that has at least happened in a lifetime."
"Oh…"
"But you still need to think about your own meaning to the song. That was just the theme. You need to find your position in the song."
"And how to I do that!"
"Patience little brother. I can't tell you, it's your story."
"Ugh!" Hiro dramatically fell back.
"Hey, I should call you little wonder." Tadashi chuckled.
"Shut up Tadashi! Why is the stupid song a big deal to the family anyway?"
"It's the only thing left from mom."
"What about Aunt Cass? She know about it too right?"
"True but she doesn't have her own kids...and we technically are her kids so either way it's up to us to help mom pass it down."
"It's just a song."
"Please Hiro, if mom were she would be upset. No matter how simple it is she actually wants it to be passed down."
"Fine, but you are the one responsible to pass it down. I don't plan on having kids."
It was now the night before the showcase the gang decided to hold a celebration on completion of Hiro's project to get Hiro pumped up for the big day. The boy wondered why the adults wanted to do this but he let it slide knowing that this was them. They were hanging out in the cafe and Aunt Cass provided most of the food and the students were in charge of eating the entire kitchen.
"Hiro are you excited about tomorrow!" Honey gave Hiro a squeezed hug.
"Yeah, if I can live to breath." Honey let go of Hiro apologizing to him.
Wasabi came up behind Hiro and pat him on the back. "Don't be nervous kid. I know you're gonna do great! I'm not lying." He got serious, "Your invention is so cool you're making me nervous. I'm gonna look like an amateur!"
"Hey Wasssabiiii…" Hiro saw Fred behind him on the counter holding a big bottle. "Don't. I say don't…..ever have little faith in you bro. And you!" He pointed to Hiro, "Dddon't be nervous because guess what?" Fred let out a hiccup and zoned out for a few seconds. "I'm still here."
"Fred are you even 21 yet?" Aunt Cass put her hands on her hips looking at Fred in disappointment.
"Are you 21?" Aunt Cass took the bottle from Fred and retrieved to the kitchen. "You could get me fired you know!"
"Love you too! Shesssuch a nice lady." The two boys shook their heads and went on back to what they were talking about.
"Hiro!" Tadashi went over to Hiro. "I just want to let you know don't worry about me. Just focus on you. This is your big day! But I do want one thing from you." Hiro was all ears. "Finish what you started. Accomplish something. I know it's easy for me to think that you can but I want you to feel proud of yourself for once. I'm very proud of you right now, but if you make yourself proud it will make me even more proud. Don't ever give up. When you fail at something don't stop there. Find out what you did wrong and figure out what you need to do. Look for a new angle."
Hiro stayed silent for moment. Is Tadashi really proud of him?
"Aww! Brotherly moment!" Honey brought out her phone to snap picture of the two brothers. "Ok everyone let's get in the picture!" The entire group got close together to fit in the selfie, including Aunt Cass carrying Mochi. The picture got uploaded to the social media website captioning, Watch out nerds, there's an even bigger nerd who's gonna put your science to shame!
A few minutes later, a comment appeared under the picture, Woman up!
