Chapter Twelve: Coffee and a Friendly Visit

Hello!

I can only explain why my chapters have been slow.

It's really quite simple: my parents have been forcing me to do college research and study for exams and all that crap. I'm sad to say that chapters have been slow and I don't like it either.

My mom is being crazy and she won't even let me do club activities or write. Just strictly schoolwork, college research and my job.

But, I still have a while until college so hopefully things will get better.

Fresh new chapter! Who's ready?

I know I am!

Enjoy and review for me please!

Kagome yawned as she rubbed her eyes. The bookworm had spent a majority of her night reading the books Sesshomaru had given her and before she realized it, it was already morning. It was relaxing and quiet at the apartment, no large noises interrupted her reading sessions. A perfect night of flipping through pages and enjoying the sweet literature. Kagome was between reading Poe's poems when she felt her stomach growl and her throat seeking coffee.

She was now standing in the kitchen with a pot of coffee brewing and a book in her hand. She had tied her black hair into a loose ponytail and had changed into a pair of black jeans and a green and black striped T-shirt. The book in her hand was the Edgar Allen Poe book and it was the third time she had read the pages in her long night of book binging.

Her brown eyes were currently locked on the pages of Poe's Tell-Tale-Heart, a content smile present on her face.

As she flipped the page, she noticed movement out of the corner of her eye. Sesshomaru was walking out of the hall with a folder in his hand and a newspaper under his arm.

He wore the same clothing he did last night, meaning he worked in his office all night. Kagome sighed as he looked up at her.

"Good morning sleepyhead." she mumbled as she turned to look straight at him. Sesshomaru looked at her in what looked like confusion. "Sleepyhead?"

Kagome placed her bookmark into the pages and shut the book. Placing it on the counter, she crossed her arms as she looked at him. "It's a joke. I know you didn't sleep."

Sesshomaru narrowed his eyes, "I apologize that my editor has requested six new manuscripts to complete by the end of the week." he hissed, the small bags under his eyes were easily seen.

"It's Monday, you don't have to work on a project with a seven day extent." Kagome said. She shifted over to look at the coffee maker, the dark liquid bubbling lightly.

He seems grumpy... Maybe I should brew him a cup too...

Kagome sighed, pulling two mugs from a cabinet, "I can't blame you, I spent all of last night reading. I really love it."

Sesshomaru raised an eyebrow, she had her back turned to him and she seemed to be doing something with the coffee maker.

His eyes fell on the book on the counter and a small glint in his eye flashed. She was close to the end I the book and Lord knows how many other books she had read during the night.

"I'm sorry for snapping." she said suddenly, catching him off guard.

He looked up to see her holding a cup of steaming coffee out to him, another cup in her other hand. She had a small smile on her face, "I haven't had my morning coffee either. My day doesn't start until I've got my caffeine."

Sesshomaru looked at the cup, noticing different coloration which meant creamer and something else possibly. His eyes narrowed and he crossed his arms after placing the papers down on the counter.

"I like my coffee black."

Kagome was not fazed, she held out the cup. "Try this, it managed to keep me up all the time. It's my own personal recipe. Give it a try."

Sesshomaru shook his head, "I don't-"

She pressed the mug to his chest, a smile on her face. "Come on, you need coffee and I made you coffee. I won't bug you about eating this morning since you ate your dinner, but I want you to drink coffee."

Sesshomaru narrowed his eyes at the girl. She was persistent and she was unyielding.

He was hardly ever pushed around, only his editor would push him to work on his writing and that was it.

Sesshomaru glared at the girl, she was his so-called-nanny. Not his editor and certainly not his boss. (If he had one.)

Kagome smirked at his twitching hand, knowing he wanted the coffee. He'll crack sooner or later... she thought as she held out the mug further towards him.

Their idle chat was interrupted by a rapid knocking on the front door. A sound that made Kagome almost jump, the coffee sloshing in the mug.

Kagome let out a breath as she took in the fact that it was someone at the door only. She then shoved the mug into Sesshomaru's hands, "Drink it." she said bluntly as she scurried to the door where the knocking continued.

Kagome unlocked the door and opened it only to have a pair of arms wrap around her shoulders and a hearty voice cry out.

"Kagome-chaaaan!"

The bookworm sighed and took a good look at her friend. "Sango-chan? What's the matter with you?" she exclaimed as she pulled up the brunette to look her in the eyes.

Taijija Sango was Kagome's best friend and the two had known each other since childhood. Sango was fairly tall and stood a few inches above Kagome. She had silky dark brown hair tied in a high ponytail with a red tie that matched her red t-shirt. She wore a black hoodie over the shirt and dark jeans with black and white sneakers. On her back was her pink-red backpack, hanging comfortably from her shoulders.

Sango's dark eyes searched over her friend's body, "Are you ok? Nobody's hurt you have they?" she asked as she held Kagome by the shoulders.

Sango was a very protective friend who always looked out for the shy bookworm. In school, Sango would always stand up for the shy Kagome when other kids called her names or made fun of her.

The two were inseperable...

"No I'm fine!" Kagome said as she managed to pry Sango off of her.

"Well, I've been worried sick! I went to the shrine looking for you and no one was home! I didn't know where you had gone!" Sango said as she placed her hands on Kagome's shoulders.

The bookworm's brown eyes focused on her friend, "I'm sorry. I guess I forgot to mention my new job." she said. "Kaede-obaa-chan set me up with helping Sesshomaru-sama." she said as she looked over towards said man.

He stood in the kitchen, stirring his coffee with his finger. His eyes were concentrated on the mug but he would occasionally look at the girls, one who looked at him suspiciously.

Kagome looked at her friend again, "I've been working as a cleaning lady and a cook for him. He's a workaholic and needs all the help he can get when I comes to food and his health." Sango smiled, "As long as you are okay."

Kagome sighed, "Okay okay." Sango's eyes twinkled as she hugged her friend again. But her eyes then locked with Sesshomaru, who was watching them with a raised eyebrow.

Sango held Kagome closer, "Look, I'm going to the cafe for some breakfast. Why don't I take you with me?"

Kagome tried to release herself from the hug, "Sango-chan-"

"Nope, I haven't seen you and I want you to tell me why you are in this current predicament." Sango said as she pulled Kagome towards the door. The bookworm began to struggle against her hold, "Sango-chan! I-I have work here! I can't just leave now!"

"Sure you can! I'm sure Mr. Fluffy can deal without a little bookworm."

Kagome managed to pull herself from her friend'a grasp again. "Sango-chan, I have chores today. I can't just leave."

"Go on." said Sesshomaru, his voice loud enough for both to hear. Kagome looked over at him in worry, he still had not drank the coffee and he looked at her with solid eyes. He moved his glasses up his nose and crossed his arms. "I don't need help, the house is in fine shape already. I need to concentrate on my work and your cleaning will only distract me." he said in a cold voice as he turned towards the hall where his study was.

Kagome watched his retreating back as he disappeared down the hall. Her heart beat against her ribcage as disappointment filled her. She had this feeling of wanting him to protest and tell her to stay, but her wish fell on deaf ears.

Well, he does have work. I can't expect that to happen...

Then, Sango grabbed Kagome's hand and led her out of the house, "Come on, I'll buy you your favorite strawberry crepes." she said in a giddy voice as she pulled Kagome down the hall towards the elevator.

Kagome dragged her feet as she was pulled along, her brown eyes looking back towards the apartment door.

Hello! I hope you enjoyed this chapter. More will come sooner! I promise!

Things will get better and I finish this story as soon as I can! Wish me luck and I think your reviews will help!
