Heres chapter 12! Apolagies for any grammar or spelling mistakes!

Claires POV

Shane is slouched on the chair, sleeping soundly. I don't know what it was, but I couldn't sleep at all. We were counting down the hours until Eve was released from hospital, apparently she has made good progress.

I fidgeted a little and noticed that my phone was flashing. It was Amelie. She was wondering about Myrnin and where he was. I seriously doubted she had actually texted me herself, probably got one of her assistants to do it for her.

"Amelie?" I answered. I got up and walked down the corridor, away from Shane. I didn't want to wake him up.

"Have you seen Myrnin? He was supposed to meet me in my office tonight. I thought he would have recovered by now." It has only just over a day since Myrnin had 'bounced back', but I wasn't his babysitter.

"I wouldn't know, I haven't left the hospital for most of the time. Have you checked the lab?" And it was true; I spent most of my time here, as sad as that sounded. But it was for a good reason.

"Of course, a few hours ago. But it wouldn't open, even to vampires." I sighed at the news. Myrnin could be anywhere, gallivanting through town looking for springs for all I knew.

"I think it would be a good idea to try again. He might be back if he left. I'm sorry I would help more but I have priorities." I tried to sound sincere, but came across as tired.

"Your priorities are to Morganville." She hung up. I held the phone in my hand and sighed. I walked back to Shane, to find him awake and yawning.

"You okay?" I asked, looking at his tousled hair.

"Yeah, but I think something is going on in there." He looked at the door to Eves room quizzically.

Eve

Dreams didn't make any sense. Especially when you're half awake, half drifting further into a deep sleep. Like standing in the doorway with each foot on either side. I could feel Michael holding me, I could feel his even breathing but then I felt a falling sensation, like the pit of my stomach was being dragged down.

It felt like mere seconds passed.

I'm in my hospital bed, and groggily glanced over at Michael who's sleeping on the chair beside me. His head lolled to the side and his arm was placed as if he was holding mine. I knew it was a dream because of all the whispering, voices creeping in from every corner. They were so confusing. It turned into a nightmare when the voices materialized.

They were coming from any point of darkness in the room, a shadow of the chair, looming over Michael and eyeing him in revolting curiosity, almost liquid and dripping ooze everywhere. I stumbled out of bed to shoo it away, not quite finding my voice. Others were smoother, like smoke, immobile and uninterested until I paid attention to them.

It was like facing a droid army in one of Shane's games.

Michael twitched and I leaned on the arm of the chair, out of breath. I was still recovering from previous adventures. They all started to congregate closer to me, and I extended my arm in defence, blocking the unconscious Michael from their grasp. If only I had a weapon.

This hospital room provided no immediate weapons, not that I imagined it to. It was supposed to be a nightmare.

They came closer, tearing at the patterned hospital gown, at anything that they could latch on to. The thing that guarded Michael was in my hair now, it was like being stuck to rubber, and I tried to pull myself away, my whole body quivering. As hands closed around my bare ankles, slithering towards my calf, my body froze, and I screamed in panic. Despite the adrenaline running through my body, I felt tired, and if I could, I would have dropped back into bed.

I was still screaming, and hands wrapped themselves around my waist as I still thrashed to get away from the mass of gunk on my hair. My blank attackers stopped as if someone pushed a button, and slowly retreated into the corners and shadows they came from, never turning back, walking or hovering backwards, their blank faces facing me. I couldn't help but stare.

"Eve!" I could hardly understand my name; it was more like a noise that rang in my ear. I was still quivering, trying to understand. Other words were said but my head was too heavy to understand.

Light burst into the room in the form of nurses, who helped me into bed and put something in my IV. Involuntary I made a high pitched noise, looking for a pair of eyes that would understand. Familiar faces showed up, with concern on their face. This was some wacky dream.

"Watch out." I managed to say amongst the clamour, as my muscles relaxed, not quite sending me to sleep yet. Someone brushed my hair away as the room returned to quietness again, but three people remained.

Their mouths were moving but I couldn't hear anything. I probably looked as confused as I felt, and I could feel the dream ending.

"Watch out for the shadows."
