THOSE STARS

CHAPTER XI

~PROF. LAYTON~

As soon as we all heard gun shots, Clara was the first to react. "Follow me; I'll arm you with some things I made." She said and stood up. We all scrambled off our seats and followed the girl to some sort of basement.

Clara stood in front of some sort of scanner and spoke in a strong and firm voice, "Clara Jackson. Grant access to following attendees." The computer beeped in Morse code,

"Access granted to the following: Luke, Flora, Drew, Emmy, and Hershel."

Clara nodded in approval and the doors opened revealing a sort of lab. We all went in and Clara vanished behind a door and to come back with three black cases.

She opened it and revealed a brown pouch that seemed to contain something. She smirked and gave each of us a bag. "What is this?" Flora asked while shaking her pouch.

Clara smiled, "One of my successful projects. Inside those pouches are ten pieces of bombs. It gives out a foul smell that leads the brain to sleep and poof you're out cold." She said proudly.

Emmy looked at her pouch and brought out one of the bombs, "So, how do we activate them?" she asked. Suddenly, Clive answered her. "You press the green button at the bottom of it. You only get ten chances to use them seeing as we all have ten in one pouch." He said.

"How do you know?" Flora asked, slightly pouting. He smirked, "I already came here." He said. Clara smiled, "Yeah. Anyway, I'll show you the status of the village using the hidden cameras my robots placed." She said and walked off to a door that was closed.

When she opened it, I already saw at least twenty monitors on each showing a different angle around the village. "That is quite impressive Ms. Jackson." I commented. Clara smiled and let us in, "I already sent a few robots to round up the families to the evacuation centre." She said while pointing at a huge gym with a few people in it while more are coming in accompanied with Clara's robots.

"Then, I sent my strong ones to get the kids that are being attacked at the orphanage. The poor things...all terrified and traumatized." Clara said softly as she pointed at one monitor. She seemed like she could relate with that matter.

"Anyway, Marley and three other robots have been dispatched to the city and they have just come back with some...bad news." Clara said. "And what could be worse than this?" Luke asked. Clara inhaled sharply, "Twenty armoured cars and three bullet-proof helicopters that are reinforcements that are coming here in two hours...?" she asked.

There were audible gasps as Clara turned back to the monitors and typed furiously on her keyboard. I'm quite surprised it is still well and functional. "Can your force field stop it?" I asked. Clara stopped typing and looking down, "I'm not sure...humans, yes. Cars and helicopters with advanced type of technology that might be on the par with my technology...I have no idea." She said.

Everyone remained silent as we watched Clara and her robot Rose typing and doing more advanced things.

Then Clara said something...

~CLARA~

"You can leave ya know..." I said.

Everyone begun to fidget, "What do you mean?" Professor asked. I opened the calendar on one of my monitors, "Today is supposedly the day you're supposed to leave. Your holiday is done. I can send two of my robots to secure a safe ride back to London." I said like I was reassuring myself.

Rose stopped typing and looked at me, the heart orb at the centre of her metal chest blue signalling sadness. I forced myself to look away and immerse myself in typing for the safety of the villagers.

No, I mustn't let my petty, useless emotions get in the way of lives that could possibly be ended by me.

I felt a hand on my shoulder; I looked to see who it was...it was Clive. Everyone was looking at me now, "W-what?" I asked shakily.

"We're not leaving this town like this." Emmy said. Luke smirked, "Assisting those in need is what a gentleman should do." He said. Professor chuckled, "Indeed it is my boy." He said. Flora smiled, "I'll help you Clara! I like your robots a lot." She said. Drew shook her head, "Leave my childhood? Never." She said. Then she smiled, "I'm sorry for misjudging you...I'll do anything to help this village." She said.

I stared at everyone in awe. Instead for their own safety, they would risk it save more. I smiled, "Thank you all so much!"I exclaimed happily.

Soon all of us were set to work. Emmy and Drew were in charge of the safety and needs of the children; Flora and Luke are in charge of the elderly who need assistance, Professor Layton and Clive help the people escaping the chaos of the bad guys.

Meanwhile, I began to dispatch my first batch of robots to annihilate the government's men in the old abandon warehouse. Where that warehouse came from? I have no idea.

But what I did know, I'll protect these people even if they ruined my life altogether.

~JAMES~

I walked down the hall, shooting anyone who tried to get in my way.

Clara...

Her name kept echoing in my head, like a disk on an endless replay.

Daddy...

I kept hearing her voice...calling me...

James...

I always heard her voice too...like a faint bell...

I clutched my bullet wound which was just at my right chest. Blood was seeping on my clothes and in between my fingers that tried to cover the wound. I opened the door and saw Hugh standing with his back to me.

He then turned towards me, "Well James—"

"BANG!"

I smiled as the Hugh's smile turned into a surprised one. "I hope you burn in hell." I said hoarsely. I walked out leaving Hugh to bleed to death.

I will NEVER forgive ANYONE who tried to hurt my daughter.
