Epilogue

"Distance"

Eric and Charles had spent a majority of their week together in bed. Sometimes and just holding each other and others doing other stuff. Charles didn't want this time to end but he knew it had to. Charles kissed Erics forehead.

The sun is fulling up the room,

and I can hear you dreaming

Do you feel the way I do, right now?

Eric opened his eyes and looked into Charles'. He kissed him and the kiss was passionate and intense. It was like they were both putting so much into this kiss. It was as if they would never have a moment like this again.

I wish we would just give up

'Cause the best part is falling

Calling anything but love

Charles knew what he would have to do. Mr. Sinister had been able to look into his head to find out how much he loved Eric and had almost taken him away.

And I will make sure to keep my distance

Say I love you when you're not listening

How long, can we keep this up, up, up?

They had discussed it beforehand but neither one wanted to go through with it. If it was up to them they would stay like this forever. They seemed to be prolonging the inevitable and both testing to see which one would break first and get out of bed.

Please don't stand so close to me

I'm having trouble breathing

I'm afraid of what you'll see, right now

Eric leaned up and sighed. "Guess this is it."

"Yeah, I guess so."

"I do love you Charles."

"I love you too. More then you'll ever know."

"Or remember."

I'll give you everything I am

All my broken heartbeats

Until I know you'll understand

They both got dressed and walked towards the door holding hands.

And I will make sure to keep my distance

Say I love you when you're not listening

How long, can we keep this up, up, up?

Charles was about to open the door when Eric stopped him.

"I'm not ready yet."

"Me either."

Charles grabbed Erics face and leaned in to kiss him passionately.

And I keep waiting

For you to take me

And you keep waiting

To save what we had

As they kissed Charles began probing into Erics mind. Probing for all memories of their time together. At least the passionate memories.

So I'll make sure to keep my distance

Say I love you when you're not listening

How long can we keep this up, up, up?

Charles was nearly done when he broke away and opened the door.

Eric seemed confused for a moment and Charles coughed.

"We were discussing Mr. Sinister."

"Oh right. Do you honestly think he will turn up again?"

"Well we ruined his plans in the Savage Land so I'm guessing yeah."

"Right. I feel like I'm forgetting something."

"Maybe it'll come to you. If it does I am only a phone call away."

"It was good to see you my old friend."

"And it was good to see you. Glad we were able to work together on this."

"We should do it again sometime."

Eric extended his arm to shake Charles' hand but Charles wrapped his arms around Eric to hug him. It lasted for a few minutes and Eric was the first to break away.

"Until we meet again."

"Until we meet again."

Charles watched Eric walk away and shut the door.

"I love you."

Make sure to keep my distance

Say I love you when you're not listening

How long 'til we call this love, love, love?

"How did you do it? Why did you do it?"

Charles looked at Hank for a moment and frowned.

"Mr. Sinister nearly turned Eric into a vegetable to make me suffer. I don't want anyone knowing what we shared."

"But we beat him in the end."

"Yeah but there will always be someone like Mr. Sinister. Perhaps someone worse."

"I'm sorry Charles but who will erase your memories."

"Before she left I arranged to have Emma come back when she finished with her Hellfire Club business."

"So you'll both forget?"

"That's the idea."

"How can you forget that you love someone?"

"I don't know."

Emma about a week after and Charles immediatey began training her extensively.

She showed great promise and the time had finally come for her to erase his memories.

"Are you sure you want me to do this?"

"Yes. Just do it."

Emma nodded and grabbed Charles face probing his mind for the passionate memories he and Eric shared.

"It's done."

Author's Note: This was actually the first chapter that I had the idea for. I knew that at the end I was going to have both Charles and Eric's memories erased because of the danger it would put either one of them in with their enemies. Also knew that I was going to use the song "Distance" by Christina Perri. Hope you enjoyed this story as much as I did writing it.
