Oh My Gosh I'm so sorry. I been so busy with work, and I'm just having a really tough time typing right now. so posts wont be every week anymore. sorry to say. I think im having a tough time because Break isn't very active right now, haha, need to wake him up soon.
"Here you'll need to use these to cut him out of the clothing."
Gil stared for a few lengthy moments at the scissors the doctor was handing him, "I don't... I don't think we need to cut his clothes off. He's not injured anywhere else. Can't we just… slip them off?"
The doctor eyed the Raven, contemplating the suggestion, "Well, alright, just be careful," He said dabbing the wound clean. He watched from the corner of his eye, as Gilbert began striping the white haired man. He could tell how much this man meant to Gil from the way his fingers gently took the red pin off, then continued to untie the cravat, concern etched deeply in his features. He looked as if he were about to break out crying, but he held the tears back. Soon the cravat was no longer around the Hatter's neck, and Gilbert began unbuttoning the many layers Break had on.
"Do… when do you think he'll wake up?" Gilbert asked. Then sniffled
"It really depends on how bad his brain was injured, from the look of it, there are multiple hits to his head, maybe by a blunt object. It could be anywhere from a few hours to a day, if we're lucky. But, if the damage to his brain is severe, he could be out for a few days, or he could be in a coma for the rest of his days." Gilbert froze at the word 'coma', "All we can do at the moment is to wait."
Gil looked down at Break. Maybe he should have done something differently; he should've had Break come help him with preparations. Maybe then this whole thing could've been avoided. He felt regret creep up in his mind, which only resulted in making himself angry. Of course Break had ignored the feeling he had gotten, even after he had told him not to. Break really had no reason to actually worry about anything. He was smart and powerful. And he wasn't afraid to die, making him dangerous.
Gilbert could only assume someone had done this to Break. And for Break to let this happen to himself, he had to be defenseless. Somehow, Break couldn't use the Mad Hatter, or maybe he refused to use the Hatter. Either way, Gilbert wouldn't know unless Break woke up.
Fresh tears prickled at the edge of his golden eyes. Somehow, this situation was his entire fault. He knew Break would ignore the feeling he had, and left him, and now, he was on his deathbed. He forced himself to continue undressing the Hatter. It was kind of ironic, he was looking forward to undressing the Hatter this evening, he never imagined it would be like this.
He slipped Break's clothing off as carefully as possible; the clothing would need to be washed. Gilbert proceeded to fold the clothing, as he watched as the medic began to pour the bucket of warm water over Break's forehead. The blood mixed with the warm liquid, his hair turning pink as the blood was rinsed out of his hair.
Gil watched silently as the medic continued to wash the blood off the Hatter, "So, Nightray, who is this bloke, anyway?" the medic asked, attempting to keep Gil focused.
"He… Uh..He…" Gil choked on his words. Tears finally escaping his eyes, he couldn't lose someone so important to him again. Even though he knew the doctor had never lost a patient, he couldn't help thinking the worst case scenario. What if Break were to die? "I'm sorry Doctor…" Gil turned around, wiping the tears away, attempting to gain control over his emotions.
"Nightray,"
"Y-Yes sir?"
"He's going to be fine. I give you my word."
"Yes sir," Gil sniffed the tears away, turning back to the medic.
"Now, I need you to get me some towels and a hospital gown from the last cupboard on the left, and be snappy about it, Nightray." He needed to keep the boy busy; the time for weeping would come later. The medic had finished rinsing the man's hair, revealing that his hair was actually white. Now he really wondered who this man was, not just anybody had white hair like this… he must be some type of albino, something he would love to do some tests on. But, the chances of Gilbert letting that happen are close to zero, "I've never seen you this concerned about someone besides Oz, just how special is this man to you, Nightray?"
Gilbert opened the cabinet, finding the hospital gowns and fresh towels. He picked out a gown, and grabbed a few towels, "He means a lot to me. That's all you really need to know."
"Hoh? Is he a family member of yours then?"
"N-No." Gil turned back.
"A lover then?"
"Uhhh… Why are you asking anyways?"
"Just a bit curious, Nightray." The medic smiled to himself, so Gil finally went and got a lover. It was about time. He was afraid the Nightray would never have the experience of the act of sexual reproduction, "Your lover got a name?"
Gil stopped in his tracks, "Yes, he does have a name."
"Well, spill it already, Nightray."
"Xerxes Break, that's his name. You'd probably know him better as Mad Hatter." He came up behind the medic, handing him a towel, unfolding a towel for himself, helping the medic dry off Break's body.
"The Mad Hatter!? You're shagging the Mad Hatter!?" The medic inquired loudly, taking the towel from Gilbert's hands. The towel went straight to the Hatter's hair, soaking up the water from his white locks.
"GAH!? Shuuuush! I-I-I'm not.. I mean.. I have… but.. This is so embarrassing."
"Hahaha. Finally got it out of you! It's nothing to be embarrassed about, Nightray. Besides I'm pretty sure everyone knows you swing for the other team. It didn't shock me to learn you have a thing for the Hatter."
"Then why did you… you were so surprised!"
"Well, I never expected the Hatter of all people to fall in love with someone like you."
Gil's eyebrows knitted together, what exactly was that supposed to mean? Someone like you? It upset the Raven in the slightest way, "Nor did I."
"I suppose it's true what they say, no one knows what the Hatter is thinking, what he's really after. No one actually knows what his intentions are. They say he's capable of turning on you when you're counting on him the most. So my question to you now is: are you absolutely sure he actually loves you?"
"I… I'm pretty sure."
"Pretty sure? Sounds like your holding a bit of doubt."
"I… you.. you don't know him the way I know him. I don't think he's capable of doing that. He doesn't have a reason to betray his friends."
"Or, maybe he does. He just hasn't let anyone know. Can you truly know his motives if he doesn't tell you?" The doctor asked, "I don't mean to raise suspicion, I just don't want to see you get hurt in the end, just because you believed he wasn't capable of betraying his so called friends. I've heard enough things about the Hatter to know he can't always be trusted." The medic placed a towel under the Hatter, and began wrapping a bandage around his head, the wound continuing to bleed.
"Well, wha- what have you heard exactly?"
"Things, not for a child's ears. Things, I shall never repeat. All I will tell you is that he twists the truth, he uses others, manipulates them to get what he truly wants. If he truly wants you to be his, I'm sure he has had a hand in making it so."
Gilbert couldn't even reply to that. All the medic was doing was making the doubt in his mind worse. But until there was absolute proof… Gil sighed. He truly didn't believe Break would lie to him in that way. Gil knows the man has way of doing things, which might make it seem like the Hatter didn't care for anyone else but himself. Gil liked to think other people came up with at least half of the rumors going around because Break was a grumpy guy who didn't share things that needn't be said. In short, people haven't even tried to understand the Hatter. It was like Gil was the only one who tried. He would like to say other people tried, like Liam or Sharron. But they seemed to have given up a while ago. At one point Oz had tried to understand the Hatter, but after that attempt, it looked as if he gave up too. They all give up and just accept the shenanigans that he produces with no questions asked.
The doctor finished wrapping Break's head, and then picked up the Hatter, forcing him into a sitting position, "You're going to need to dress him in that hospital gown. It ties around in the back, should be easier than undressing him."
Gil nodded and unfolded the gown, and proceeded to snake Break's arms through the armholes. And then tied the back strings together. He watched as the medic picked the Hatter up in his arms, carrying him further into the infirmary, placing him gently onto one of the infirmaries beds.
The Raven grabbed a chair and made his way to the bed where Break now lay, the Medic covering Break with a sheet, to keep him from losing anymore warmth, "I'll leave you two be. Three minutes, you have three minutes until I let her back in." Gil nodded watching the doctor retreat back into his office.
Still standing, Gil turned back to Break. He reached out, "B-Break, please…" he stroked Break's cheek, feeling his still damp hair, "Please be okay, wake up soon, okay?" Gil fought to keep the tears from cascading down his face. He looked down at his lover with a sorrow stricken gaze. Oh how he wished he could be the one in the Hatter's place. Bending over, he placed his lips on the Hatter's own lips, they weren't as warm as he remembered, the Raven was just grateful they had any warmth at all, "I can't lose you. Not now." The tears finally forced their way out, racing each other down his smooth skin, "Hang in there, I know you'll be fine," he said, trying to convince himself his words were true.
Thanks for reading, sorry it's like super short.
