Chapter 12
Santana noticed how Rachel reacted.
"She just went home to take a shower and change; she'll be back before you know it" Santana assured the brunette.
Brittany looked at Santana and smiled.
"I see" Rachel said afterwards.
"Rach do you want something?" Brittany asked.
"Water."
Santana took the bottled water, put in the straw and gave it to Rachel. When the brunette finished drinking the doctors and nurses came in to check Rachel's vitals. After a few minutes Rachel fell back asleep. Santana and Brittany sat on the couch while waiting for the others to come.
"So, how was your date with Mercedes' friend?" Brittany asked her friend.
Santana smiled.
"It was good, but the guy reminded me of Puck" Santana said.
"Do you know what happened to them?" Brittany asked.
"Well, I heard Finn went to UCLA but he's back in Lima managing Mr. Hummel's shop, Artie is a Computer Engineer graduate from Stanford. Matt, Mike and Sam, I don't know where they are, even Puck" Santana while looking at the sleeping Rachel.
"Puck is living in New Jersey" Brittany said.
Santana looked at her friend; she really didn't have any idea where Puck was.
"How did you know?"
"Kurt and Mercedes has a friend living in New Jersey, and a couple of years back we went to visit them. We went to this cozy restaurant bar there and we saw Puck and to our surprise he owns the place." Brittany said while grinning.
"Puck? Are you sure it was Puckerman?"
"San of course, we were surprised to see him there. But Rachel wasn't."
"What do you mean?"
"Well, Rachel told us that she and Puck have been communicating for a good 5 years already. It was the time when Rachel went back to Lima for the funeral of Nana Martha and Pap Simeon, Puck was there and they caught up with each other. We found out through Puck that Rachel helped him out. He's married San, he's got a good looking son named Matthew and his wife's name is Lea."
Santana smiled, who would've thought that Puck would be responsible enough to be a father and husband.
"Good for him."
Brittany looked at her watch and it was already 8:30. She looked at her phone and saw a message from Olivia saying they were headed towards the hospital.
"Livy and Mandy are on the way" Santana just nodded her head.
"Aside from having a dance studio, what's keeping you busy?"
"I'm teaching at Julliard" Brittany said proudly. Santana looked at her in disbelief.
"Really?"
"Yep, really."
Santana took a deep breath as she had a meeting at 11:00 am, but she was already prepared so it wasn't a problem anymore.
"Brit?"
"Yeah?"
"I heard Rachel has many businesses, who's helping her?"
"Her whole family."
"So far I know they have the law firm" Brittany smiled.
"Yeah, but her fathers have a lot of investments in different businesses like hospitals and hotels. Rachel never touches those investments, and she started her own chain of hotels and restaurants. Since the last 3 years they've been expanding, that's why she's always travelling around."
"I see, it's good that all these years you guys never left her side" Santana said sadly.
"Yeah I know."
After a few more minutes Olivia and Mandy arrived while Rachel still slept.
Brittany and Santana said goodbye to the two and said they were coming back in the evening.
Mandy walked towards her mother and sat at the bed, placing a kiss on Rachel's cheek. Rachel moved as she felt someone kiss her.
"Mom" Mandy called her.
"Yes baby."
"Are you awake?"
"Yes."
Olivia walked toward her cousin and kissed her temple.
"How are you feeling?"
"Sore."
"Mom, you will get better, I promise."
"I know honey."
"Did you talk to Quinn?" it was Olivia.
"Yeah."
"She likes you Rach, I can see that."
"I want to get better first Livy."
"I understand."
"Mom, Grandma Betty called, they are coming tomorrow to visit you."
"They are coming here?"
"Yes, I told them since you're sick" Olivia looked at her niece and kissed her temple.
"Sweetie, can you sit on the couch for a while, I need to talk to your mom."
"Grown up talk?" Mandy asked curiously.
"Yes, grown up talk" Mandy stood up from Rachel's bed and sat down on the couch. She pulled out her book and busied herself in reading.
"I talked to the lawyer who's handling the case of the driver who hit you. The driver was DUI when he smashed against your car, I'm planning to counter charge him homicide."
"Does he have a family?" Livy looked at her cousin and she knew what would be the end of this conversation.
"Yes, 1 daughter and 1 son, wife is currently 7 months pregnant."
"Did you talk to him?"
"No, I sent one of our lawyers, and he found out that the guy lost his job and went to the bar and drank to oblivion. According to the wife and friends, he doesn't really drink at all."
"Don't press any charges Livy."
"Are you sure? There is a possibility that you will go blind Rach" Olivia shook her head.
"I know, do you think if I press charges it will increase my chance to see again? It'll all be the same whether I press charges or not. And the man has a family, it's enough to face a punishment based on DUI, I don't want to put my finger on his already wounded soul." Rachel said while taking a deep breath.
Olivia smiled sadly. Rachel was the most forgiving person she had ever met. She hoped that Quinn would do everything to make sure everything worked out.
"Aunt Quinn you're back!" Mandy cried out while running to the door.
Olivia diverted her gazed to Quinn and smiled.
"Hi" Quinn said.
"Hello Quinn" Olivia stood up while hugging the blonde.
"She'll be okay Quinn" Olivia assured the blonde.
"I know" Quinn said without breaking her gaze towards Rachel.
"I asked Alyssa to cancel all my appointments for the rest of the week, I need to be here."
"I know" Olivia patted her shoulder.
"Aunt Quinn, can I stay here with you?" Mandy asked Quinn.
Quinn looked at Olivia and the taller brunette nodded her head.
"Call me if you need anything" Olivia said.
"Cous, I'll be heading out, I'll be back later. Quinn is already here, Mandy will be staying too."
"Okay."
Quinn glanced at Mandy while the little girl was busy with her books.
"Hey" she held Rachel's hand and kissed it.
"Hi."
"What do you want to eat?"
"I think I will settle for fruits."
Quinn smiled while pulling out the container and started giving them out piece by piece to Rachel. After Rachel ate all the fruits she took her medicine and water, they talked some more then Rachel fell asleep. She ran her fingers through Rachel's hair and said "you have to be strong."
Quinn sat beside Mandy while the young brunette was busy.
"What are you doing?" Quinn asked.
"Reading."
"What are you reading?"
"Grimm Brothers stories."
"Do you like them?"
"I guess so."
"What is your favorite book?"
"Secret Garden and Little Princess."
"You already read those?"
"Yes of course, mom has a wide collection of books in our home. Mom said I need to read so my vocabulary will be good and also she told me when we read we learn new things, that's why I love reading."
Quinn smiled.
Mandy closed her book, put it back inside her bag and eyed Quinn.
"Will she be okay?"
"Yes."
"Why does she have that white stuff on her eyes?" Quinn took a deep breath.
"It's called bandages honey."
"So why does she have bandages on her eyes?" Mandy asked worriedly.
Quinn ran her hands through the little girl's hair.
"It's because of the accident; some broken glass went in her eyes, that's why they put on a bandage."
"Oh, but she can see once the bandage is off right?"
"Yes honey" Quinn lied. Mandy smiled.
"Do you like my mom, Aunt Quinn?"
"Would you be mad if I said yes?" Mandy's grey eyes lit up.
"Of course not, most of the flowers that she sent you she always asked me if you would like them" Quinn giggled.
"And what do you know about the flowers?" Quinn pinched the tip of the young brunette's nose.
"I don't know much, I'm just guessing" Mandy giggled too.
"Will you take good care of her when she goes home?"
"Yeah."
"Will you will move in with us?" Quinn didn't know what to say.
"Mands, don't ask her a lot of questions" it was Rachel. Quinn stood up and walked towards the brunette.
"Hey."
"Hey back."
"Did you sleep well?"
"I guess I did" Quinn didn't notice that Mandy was already beside her.
"Mom, would it be possible to hug you now? I didn't give you my big embrace since yesterday afternoon" Mandy whined.
"Of course baby, just don't lean closer and no tight hugging okay" Mandy nodded as if Rachel could see her.
Quinn just watched the two hugged each other. Mandy climbed on the bed and hugged Rachel's side that did not contain any broken ribs. Mandy nuzzled her head into Rachel's neck; Rachel kissed her daughter's head and smiled. Quinn smiled at the scene; even though she couldn't see Rachel's eyes she knew the brunette was happy. She decided to go out for a while to get a cup of coffee and to give some privacy for the two.
Mandy looked around and when she didn't see Quinn she started asking questions.
"Mom, did Aunt Quinn say she likes you back?" Mandy asked afterwards.
"Not yet, why?" Rachel smiled.
"Because I asked her and she said she likes you too, why didn't she tell you yet?"
"Because I didn't tell her yet."
"Why?"
"It's not the right time yet" Mandy sat up and looked at Rachel.
"Mom, do you happen to know that you had an accident, right? Why don't you just tell her so you can be happy?"
"Who says I'm not happy?" Mandy shook her head and pouted.
"Mommy, I'm your daughter, I know when you're happy and remember the dinner with Uncle Kurt when they first got here; you had this look" Mandy tried to imitate the look as if Rachel could see her.
"What look?" Rachel asked confused.
"Like when Grandma Betty looked at Grandpa Marco, like the look of Aunt Livy every time she sees Uncle Juergen and—"
"Okay okay I get it, no need to tell me more" Mandy smiled and placed a kiss on her mother's cheek.
"Mommy, just tell her that you love her" Mandy tried to persuade her mother.
Rachel took a deep breath and tried to feel her daughter's face.
"I will" Rachel smiled tiredly.
Quinn overheard the last conversation and smiled. If Rachel would not say it, she would. She had this urge to take good care of Rachel, maybe it was guilt since 10 years ago she wasn't able to help the girl but she knew it wasn't guilt. Every time she saw the brunette her face immediately lit up and for the past few months she'd always been excited to see Rachel, and she loved Mandy. The girl was just so adorable not to love her. She promised herself that she would be with Rachel no matter what.
