Chapter 12: Face from the Past

[Tsunami, the Japanese Akita, is outside of Road Rover HQ, standing on the top if a cliff just a few miles away from the base. He is wearing a white karate gi, and is assuming a stance with his eyes closed. He inhales and exhales while retaining his pose]
Tsunami: (thinking in Japanese) {Bushido, the way of the warrior. An ancient code of honor that has been passed down from generation to generation. A samurai must be prepared to face whatever challenges comes his way}
Birds: (chirping)
[Suddenly, images of Tsunami's past came flooding back to him. He saw the faces of the people who were once his family. He saw the faces of Shotaro, his master, and his two children, Ichiro and Kyoko. And lastly, he saw the face of Shotaro's killer, Geist, standing in a fiery background with skulls scattered everywhere with glowing red eyes. Tsunami's eyes open. And he utters a loud battle cry as he uppercuts into the air]
Tsunami: HAAAAHHH!
[Upon landing on his feet on the cliff, Tsunami pauses, and thinks to himself]
Birds: (chirping)
Tsunami: (Thinking in Japanese) {Shotaro, my master. Your death weighed heavily on my heart. But I swear I will avenge you}
[Silver and Clarissa was outside the Road Rovers HQ, Silver notices the cliffs]
Silver: I can sense Tsunami over there.
Clarissa: Yeah, he goes over there to practice his fighting style.
Silver: He must have a lot on his mind.
Clarissa: He does, he's been through a lot. He lost someone very important to him, his Master Shotaro.
Silver: Wasn't he the one who taught Tsunami, the ways of Bushido before he became a canomutant?
Clarissa: Yep. He was killed by Geist.
Silver: That's horrible.
Clarissa: Yes, it really hit him hard.
Silver: It must be hard.
Clarissa: Yeah. Let's go back inside, I don't think he wants to be disturbed right now.
[Clarissa and Silver went back inside. Back with Tsunami, he was still training and then the akita sensed something and was about to hit whoever was there only to find out it was Sonic who managed to dodge the attack]
Sonic: Who, easy there Tsunami. It's just me Sonic.
Tsunami: Oh… Gomenasai…
Sonic: Don't worry about it. I'm just lucky to be fast enough to dodge. Are you okay? You seem to be a bit upset.
Tsunami: Hmmm… Just remembering old days. When I was happier.
Sonic: Oh. I take it you lost some very important to you, right?
Tsunami: Hai. It was my master, Shotaro-Sama. Kazama Shotaro-Sama. He was killed years ago. But still, not a single day goes by when I don't think of him. He was like a father to me, and to his students.
Sonic: I know how that feels, I lost my father many years ago. He died trying to protect me and my family.
Tsunami: Souka? (Really?)
Sonic: Yeah. It was 10 years ago, my arch enemy Eggman, who was known as Robotnik at that time, attacked my home and took over everything, but my father refused to give him the throne so they dueled, my father won but then Mogul, a powerful immortal killed him but my father sent him and his minion Naugus and the Oracle's twin brother to another zone hoping to sealing them in it. But in the end Robotnik claimed the throne and my mother was forced to separate me and my siblings.
Tsunami: Sounds like you've also have had your own struggles and hardships. For this, I sympathize with you, Sonic-kun. It seems we have a few things in common.
Sonic: It sure seems that way. I try not to think about it, my father always told me to not live in the past, but to live in the moment and never look back.
Tsunami: It seems your father taught you well, Sonic-kun. That's a good way of looking at life. As for me, I too have moved on. But I don't forget those who I loved, and who loved me.
Sonic: Neither do I. That's why I became a Freedom Fighter so I could be able to protect the people I care about.
Tsunami: (nods) I do the same thing. When I was abducted from my home country, I was given my humanoid form by an evil scientist named Dr. Psycho, the same person who created the other experimental soldiers. For a time, I served him and General Parvo. I was originally trained for assassination purposes. But my conscience told me to take a different route. I chose the path of righteousness. My dedication to that path has earned me the title of "Samurai Rover". In my native language, "samurai" means "one who serves".
Sonic: Sounds a lot like a knight.
Tsunami: In many ways, Sonic-kun, a samurai is the Japanese equivalent of a knight. In fact, the samurai were considered the knights of medieval Japan. They were warriors who served a feudal lord. The warrior class was said to have existed for many centuries. But it was said to have been discontinued in 1877 during Japan's modernization. However, the ways and traditions of the samurai are still taught today. And in World War II, many of the soldiers and generals carried swords with them to honor the ancient tradition.
Sonic: That's pretty neat.
[Tsunami then turns and faces the opposite direction as the wind blows in his face]
Tsunami: Sonic-kun. I admire your warrior spirit. I can sense a great deal of justice in you.
Sonic: Those words apply to you as well, samurai dog.
Tsunami: Arigato.
Sonic: Heh-heh.
[Tsunami closes his eyes]
Tsunami: There is no denying one's destiny. And I feel that my destiny lies… To the place where the wind blows…
Sonic: Yeah, it's fun going where the wind blows, doesn't it?
[Tsunami doesn't answer. But instead, gives a nod of agreement. Meanwhile, somewhere in the Amazon, we see Prowl and Steel wondering through the jungle at night. They have a discussion with each other on personal manners]
Steel: So, this is your home land, huh?
Prowl: Yes. I was born here in the Amazon. I actually feel nostalgic coming back here after so many years later. So, what's your story?
Steel: There's not much to tell. You already know that I'm Hunter's father. And that I was one of the first canosapiens to come into existence.
Prowl: I'm sure there's more to discuss than just our history. I'm sure you've had many experiences in your life before the second generation Road Rovers came along.
Steel: Well, I think it's time I let you in on a little secret of mine.
Prowl: Yeah? What's that?
Steel: In the past, I was friends with Blitz's father Krieger.
Prowl: I've heard of him. But I never met him. What was he like?
Steel: Well, he was nothing like either of his two sons. He wasn't insecure like Blitz. And he wasn't insane like Geist. Krieger was usually a very quiet, stoic, and serious person. Much like I am. But that's what I admired about him. He was a very devoted soldier. He cared for his country, and for his family. He and I were good friends years ago.
Prowl: Hmmm… That makes me wonder if he was ashamed to have an insane beast like Geist for a son.
Steel: Actually, he loved both his sons. And he had high hopes for them both. But as you know, Blitz was easier to control because he was not homicidally insane like his brother Geist.
Prowl: So what happened to Krieger? How did he die?
[Steel pauses for a few seconds. But then he answers]
Steel: He was killed in the line of duty. In his last few seconds of life, he said that he enjoyed working with me. It was his death, and my own personal life experiences that made me choose the path that I walk. Like Geist, I'm no longer fit for a normal life. And that's why I remain in seclusion from society.
Female Voice: Do you really thinking living a life alone is very easy?
Male voice: Don't you want to be the person who matters to you the most?
[Steel and Prowl both assume a stance and look around them]
Prowl: Who's there?
Steel: Show yourselves!
[And out the shadows came two humans, they had slightly dark skin, platinum blonde hair with the girls being short but the boys was shorter and orange eyes, they had on long black coats]
Twin #1: I am Vadi.
Twin #2: …and I am Vida.
Both: We are the Kūkyo Twins.
Steel: Kūkyo twins?
Vida: Yes, as in emptiness…
Vadi: All we have is each other.
Prowl: What are two kids like you doing by yourselves in this jungle?
Vida: We have our reasons.
Vadi: But they need not worry you.
Prowl: Oh?
Steel: So what's your story?
Vida: We're trying to find the one responsible for the destruction of both Mobius and Earth later in the future.
Vadi: Our mission is to find the culprit and lock him or her away in the No Zone Jail where they will remain for all eternity.
[Steel and Prowl pause for a few seconds. And then Steel answers]
Steel: Sounds like you two have one hell of a task on your hands.
Vida: It is a big responsibility but the others couldn't come since they are on duty in other dimensions.
Vadi: But we will complete our task, and stop the unnecessary destruction that is coming.
Prowl: How can we help?
Vida: Be sure the shards of the Black Emerald don't fall into the wrong hands.
Vadi: And be careful of your surroundings, as you may already know things are not always as they seem.
[They quickly disappeared, leaving Steel and Prowl astonished. Meanwhile, back in Road Rover HQ, the heroes are all gathered together for yet another assignment]
Clarissa: Alright Hubert, what's the assignment Professor Shepard has for us this time?
Sonic: I hope it's something exciting.
Knuckles: We'll just have to see.
Shepherd: Gather around, everyone. Today we must continue searching for those black emerald shards. Just recently we just picked up two energy readings.
Knuckles: Have you pinpointed their exact location?
Shepherd: Yes, Knuckles. And it appears that we've picked up not only signals from the black shard, but several different kinds of energy readings as well.
Shadow: It must be the Chaos Emeralds.
Knuckles: So where do we start looking?
Shepherd: So far, the signals appear to be coming from Brazil, Japan, and Egypt. We'll have to send three teams over there to retrieve them.
Sonic: Sounds like a plan, my team will take Japan.
Silver: We'll take Egypt.
Shadow: So that leaves my team with Brazil.
Hunter: We'd better tag along. You guys will need all the help you can get.
Sonic: That would be much appreciated. So how shall we split the teams?
Shadow: We'll have to pick the people who will go us to these destinations, I'll go first. Maria, you, Rouge, Omega, Hershey, Stryker, Exile, Canus, Guntiver, and Muzzle are with me.
Sonic: My turn Tails, you, Knuckles, Sonia, Manic, Tekuno, Leeta, Lyco, Reynard Jr., Diablo, Blitz, Roger, Chris, and Tsunami are on my team.
Silver: So that leaves me with Amy, Sally, Big, Lupe, Lobo, Lupo, Reynard Sr. Selena, Calina, Hunter, Colleen, Shag, Mutt, Clarissa, and the wolf cubs as well as their future counterparts.
Tsunami: Wakarimashta (Understood)
Exile: You got it, comrades! Let's go!
K. Marcos: Alright! This is so exciting! I get to go out again!
Lupe: (clears voice) But that doesn't mean fun and games, young man.
K. Marcos: Oh, right… Yes, mom…
[K. Marcos places his paws behind him]
Lobo: And stay close to us at all times. Remember, you're underage.
Knuckles: So what are we waiting for? Let's go!
Sonic: All right team let's do to it!
[And so they went their separate ways, Sonic's team took the Blue Typhoon, Shadow's team took the Sky Rover while Silver's team took the Cloud Rover. Silver's team was closing in on Egypt]
Silver: Here it is. Hunter, can you find a safe place for us to land?
Hunter: No problem! That's what I'm good at! (winks)
Clarissa: Better strap in everyone. It doesn't matter how this lands it's going to be a bit rough.
Silver: She's right. We better do that.
Amy: Hang on everybody!
F. Marcos: Oh snap!
[Hunter found a place to land, but the landing was a bit rough. After a few minutes they stopped]
Clarissa: Well at least you're getting better at landing Hunter.
Colleen: Still though, you seriously need to work on your landing skills.
Hunter: Sorry…
Silver: We better get going.
[Silver and his team started searching, as with Shadow's team they were getting close to Brazil]
Shadow: When we land Maria, be sure to stay close to me.
Maria: I'll be fine Shadow, don't worry about me.
[Meanwhile, as the two teams begin their search for the Chaos Emeralds and the missing shards of the Black Emerald, Sonic and his team head for Japan]
Sonic: So this is your home Tsunami. I think it's pretty awesome.
Knuckles: What a city and I thought Station Square was huge.
Tails: Good thing we have Tsunami with us otherwise we would get lost.
Lyco: So where do we start, samurai?
Tsunami: Watashi ni shitagatte, kono yō.
Reynard: Can you speak English?
Diablo: Yeah, we don't speak Japanese.
Tails: But if I'm not mistaken, the natives of this country speak the language. So we'll need Tsunami to translate for us.
Tsunami: Hai. Follow me. I know my way around this city.
Reynard: That's much better.
[They begin looking. The mobians were amazed with what they were seeing]
Sonia: Wow, look how lively this place is.
[Everyone looked around and saw that everyone wasn't even paying attention to them as they were minding their own business]
Manic: I'll say sis. Everyone must be very busy.
[Suddenly Tsunami spotted two people who looked very familiar]
Knuckles: Tsunami, are you okay?
[Tsunami doesn't answer]
Sonic: Uh, Samurai Dog?
[Tsunami sees a Japanese female who looked strangely familiar. She was walking down the sidewalk dressed in a white business suit with a pair of black slippers]
Tsunami: Kyoko-Sama!
Knuckles: Does he know her?
Sonic: Probably.
Lyco: Tsunami! Tsunami!
Tsunami: Huh?
Leeta: Are you okay?
Tsunami: Ah, hai. That girl looks very familiar.
Blitz: Who is she?
Tsunami: That was Kyoko-Sama. Shotaro-Sama's daughter.
Tails: Are you sure?
Tsunami: Hai. I'm sure of it.
[Tsunami casually walks down the sidewalk, following the girl's scent]
Reynard: Hey! Wait up!
Diablo: Where you going!
Tails: We better follow him.
[And so, the group follows Tsunami through the streets of Tokyo. They Sonic and his friends follow her into a nearby hospital, where they find some sick and injured people]
Lyco: Oh my. Look at all these people!
Sonic: They sure look like they've seen better days.
Tails: We'd better keep an eye on Tsunami. We can't let him out of our sight.
[Tsunami comes to the stand where he speaks to the attendant. The attendant was rather shocked to see that the person standing next to her was an anthropomorphic Akita with a bunch of other anthropomorphic animals]
Attendant: (In Japanese) Can I help you, sir?
Tsunami: (In Japanese) Yes. Do you know where I can find Kyoko Kazama? I need to see her.
Attendant: (In Japanese) Dr. Kazama is in her office right now. Would you like to schedule an appointment with her?
Tsunami: (In Japanese) No. I need to see her right away.
Attendant: (In Japanese) Why? Is it urgent?
Tsunami: (In Japanese) Yes. It's very urgent. Where is she?
Attendant: (In Japanese) Well… She's on the third floor. Her office number is #312.
Tsunami: Arigato.
[And so, the team follows Tsunami to room #312 on the third floor]
Blitz: Wait, Tsunami!
[Tsunami turns towards Blitz]
Tsunami: What is it, Blitz?
Blitz: I'm not sure if we should visit her now. We don't know what her reaction will be if she sees us.
Lyco: I think he has a point, Tsunami.
[Tsunami closes his eyes. But then he opens them and speaks]
Tsunami: She'll recognize me. I know she will.
Diablo: Well, let's try not to startle her. I don't think she's ever seen anthropomorphic animals before.
Tsunami: Wakata. (Understood)
[Tsunami knocks on the door to Kyoko's office]
Kyoko: (In Japanese), Hello?
[The team stays behind the door while Tsunami speaks]
Tsunami: (In Japanese) May we come in? We need to see you, Dr. Kazama.
Kyoko: (In Japanese) Yes. Please, do come in.
Tsunami: (In Japanese) Thank you.
[Tsunami slowly opens the door, and sees Kyoko sitting at her desk, signing some papers, and placing them in their proper order. The Akita steps into the door, with the others behind him.
Kyoko: (in Japanese) What can I help you with, sir?
[As the young woman finishes signing papers, she looks up and sees Tsunami standing by the door. Upon seeing the anthropomorphic Akita, Kyoko's eyes widen with shock]
Tsunami: (In Japanese) Hello.
Kyoko: (gasp)
[Tsunami stands by the entrance to the door, and looks at Kyoko with his usual expressionless face]
Tsunami: (In Japanese) Kyoko-Sama…
[Kyoko stood silent. Will she be able to recognize Tsunami or will she be scared? Stay tuned for more]
