The Batman and The Joker disappeared from her sight in a scuffle accompanied by Rottweiler's. They were gone for a while and Anna heard nothing but her own panting as she tried to free her arm.

The Joker gave a hoot as he came back into Anna's view, 'Batmannn... na naaa... Batman... oh he's a thrill! But he's gone now!'
'No! He cant be gone!'
'Mhmm... at least for the last minute, he wont be ruining our plans noo...'
'No!'
'Yesss...
nearly time for the fireworksss...'

'No!' Anna screamed as her arm wrenched free, the cast was bloody and rotten, her arm underneath must be ten times worse. It should be so damaged by now it'd need to be amputated... The Joker looked at her like was a deranged animal.
'Give me the detonator!' Her expression was crazy, wild with desperation.
His face changed slowly from confusion to lack of belief, 'Give you the detonator? You-ah? Hmm, ha-ah-haa... I don't know who you think you are hm? You're not Batgirl Pumpkin-'
'You cant blow those ferries up!'
'No?!' The Joker laughed, 'I-I.. can I not?! Well whatever you say little-'

'You cant!'
'Hm.. now... Stop. Interrupting. Me-' The Joker narrowed his eyes at her ferocity.
'Don't do it!'
'Ah.' The Joker wagged his finger, 'Stoppp... We still have a few minutes left, we don't want to spend them arguing now-'
'Shut up!' Anna shouted, tears streaming down her cheeks. It was enough for her, this whole ordeal. She was done. Silence followed, The Joker slowly quirked his head to the side, 'Hm?'
'Give me-'
'Ah.' He put a finger up to silence her, 'Did you just...' He cleared his throat, 'Ahmm.. did you.. was that a shout hm?'

'Shut. Up.' Anna glared at him, all her hatred built up. He was just a clown.
'Tell... me to... to shut up... once more-'
'Shut-'

'Fine.' The Joker advanced on her and before she had time to turn, she was pushed against the pole her hand had been tied to moments before, 'You think... hm?' He put a small knife inside her mouth and she froze, her eyes trying to look down at it, feeling its pressure against her lips, 'You think because.. because you're not dead hm? That we.. we're 'friends' o-or something? That you can sayyy what you like?'
He grabbed the side of her face with his free hand, 'Hmmm? You think you're fearless... That you can't be touched... irreplaceable? Well lemme let you in on a little secret.' He whispered in her ear, 'You're nottt...'
'In fact?' He nodded, 'Mmm... Let me show you just how replaceable you really are.'

He took her by the collar and flung her forcefully to the very edge, her head nearly hanging over the edge, 'Don't like heights hm? They scare you? Mm?' The Joker straddled her by the hips, looking down at her. 'Me and you.. we don't have a... 'Special bond'... Where I hurt you and you hurt me... no, no. It's a one way street.'

He stuck the knife into her mouth again, 'Cause you... you're not special. There's been ones before, not like you, nooo... but there's been ones...'
The Joker edged his face closer to hers, 'You... you look nervous hm? This reminds me... of how I never told you.. how I got these scars. It involves someone like you. Yeah, you'll like it.'
He flicked back his hair, preparing to tell his story, 'So... this one time... I had this girl.. like you. Me and her, we had a relationship, mm we were... more than friends. Like us.'
Anna jerked underneath him and he pushed down harder on her with a leer, 'But she... and she was beautiful.. But she were going rough. Times were hard. We had no money, no jobs... she became depressed. She wouldn't touch me, she wouldn't look at me, everything was dark to her, like a disease it.. ah... consumed her.'

'One night I got sick of it. She was taking my happiness away, she was being selfish. I want us to be happy, but she wont let us... Soo, I went out for a drink.' The Joker grinned awfully at Anna, 'Too many drinks... I was a drunk, and I was sick of that girl. I went home and went to give her a kiss... mmm, she said no. But I didn't care, she kept saying no... but it didn't matter to me...'
The Joker looked straight into Anna's eyes, '... and all she said was no! No! No! I hated her negativity. So I took a knife...' He pushed the knife harder against her, 'Why so serious? Hm? Why so serious?'
'All I wanted was to see her smile again! So I took a knife... And I took it to her mouth... Like this. And I carved her face in.'
The Joker shook his head, looking out over the ferries in dramatic and mock regret, 'But she was depressed, it wasn't her fault. I felt so guilty, I couldn't stand what I had done to her beautiful face. So I did it to myself... to cancel out the bad deed. See its what they teach in school, although I never liked maths, two negatives make a positive.'

Anna tried to turn her head to the side, shutting her eyes tight. The Joker tugged her face harshly back to him and she whimpered, 'Ohh, that story really hit home did it? You don't like maths either?!'
He waited for Anna to answer, as if she was gonna say "Yeah God algebra was a bore." But of course she didn't, she just stared crying.

'Oh sh, sh... no, no.. c'mere..' The Joker took the knife from her mouth and used it to wipe away a tear. Anna stayed as still as possible as she felt the blade scarily close to her eye, '..see the moral of the story is; Don't think you cant be killed, because you can, and you will.'

How was that the moral of the story? Was it not to always smile so that The Joker didn't feel the need to carve a smile into you? But Anna said nothing, she was done retorting to favour his ridiculous and sick mind games. Any time she replied it made things worse, he'd have a more terrible trick up his sleeve. Her last ounce of strength had been diminished in mere moments, she was done. The fate of Katherine and herself were inevitable.
She was giving up, she was a coward. And she hated it. Anna bit her lip as more tears flew down her cheeks, this was it.

'Ah-ah.. I said stop with the cryinggg, you're embarrassing yourself, c'mon hm? No last words before the big moment mm? Nothing to say? No big insult to throw out, to try and stop me?'
Anna shook her head, holding back more tears, ashamed and embarrassed she barley whispered, 'No...'

'Hm.' The Joker raised an eyebrow, 'Ahhh... well then... hm, well. That's ahh-unexpected.'
Anna began to cry more and the Joker moved slightly away from her. She took her now free arm and covered her face with it, crying into her sleeve. 'AH-ta-taa!' The Joker pulled her arm away, 'I want to see you face when it blows-'
'Please!' Anna croaked and The Joker shushed her, 'Its time... And, here, we, Go.'

...

Nothing. No BOOM, no CRASH... not a sound. Anna turned her head slowly towards the river, then back to the Joker who looked over his shoulder to double check the time; 12.02.
Anna couldn't help it, she shouldn't have said it. But she had to, it rolled from her tongue, 'Told you so.'
'Agh!' The Joker fumbled in his pocket, ignoring Anna's uncontainable smirk through tears, 'Cant rely on anyone these days hm? Have to do everything ourselves don't we?' He took the detonator from his pocket, 'Funny world we live in-'

He went flying, out off the building. Literally. Anna shuffled back as Batman flung something after him, a rope. The Joker wasn't going to die tonight, not in the hands of Batman. He tugged on the rope, slowly bringing the Joker back up. Anna couldn't see him yet, but she could hear his slow, eerie laughs, 'Aho... ha.. oha.. ah.. ha, haaa...Mmmm...'
The Batman tugged one last time and he was eye level, hanging upside down.
'Youu-ahh...' He smiled weirdly and him, 'You just couldn't let me go, could you?'
Anna walked over to the Batman, standing beside him, wiping her face.
'This is what happens... when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object. You truly are incorruptible, aren't you? Hm? You and sidekick there, a dose of misplaced sense of self-righteousness.'

'You wont kill me...' The Joker spoke to Batman, 'And I wont kill you, because you're too much fun.' He then pointed to Anna, 'I might kill you, you're funnn... but you're no...mmm Batman.'

'Have a nice time in Arkham.' Anna smiled at his hanging frame, 'I'm going to go see my friend.'
'Mmm, maybe she can treat me?'
But Anna had already started walking away, she didn't care what he had to say. It was done, they'd caught him. What a fucking lunatic.
