A/N: Wow, people are actually still reading this story after I left it hanging for so long. I am deeply sorry. See my updated profile for an explanation. I love you guys! I really really do and I hope you all don't hate me. :(

Vincent paced near the threshold leading up to Catherine's apartment. They had been gone far too long. Catherine had said it would be a few hours but it was now nearly dusk. He decided it was time for someone to check on Catherine and his new friends. He tapped on the nearest pipe, sending a message to mouse. As he waited and the hour grew even later, Vincent was beginning to panic. Why had Catherine not sent a message that she would be late? Had something happened? Was she alright? What if…?

He was interrupted from his terrifying train of thought by Mouse, who appeared suddenly in the passage. "Vincent need help. Mouse help."

"Mouse, I do indeed need your help. I have not heard from Catherine since she left this morning and she should have returned Below several hours ago."

"Vincent worried about Catherine? Vincent shouldn't worry, Catherine has silver haired man with her." Mouse's expression was one of fear. "He's scary."

"Yes, Inu Yasha did go with her, Mouse. But I fear for her safety. Without our bond I do not know if she is in danger. I need you to go up to Catherine's apartment to see if she is there."

"Okay good, okay fine." Mouse paused before heading up the ladder. "Why not Vincent go? You go see Catherine all the time."

"Because, it is still daylight Above."

"Oh." He nodded and headed up the ladder and to Catherine's apartment. Once he found the right one, he knocked. "Catherine, you in there? Vincent worried. Mouse needs to take you back." There was silence from inside the apartment. Mouse knocked again a bit louder. He cupped his hands and pressed them to the door. "Catherine! Mouse here! Open door!" He pressed his ear to the cold wood. There was still no response.

The door next to Catherine's opened and he nearly jumped. Nikki emerged with an irritated glare. "What's all the racket out here? I'm trying to entertain." She eyed Mouse. "What do you want kid?"

Mouse didn't like the looks of the woman. She was kind of daunting. "Catherine? Mouse looks for Catherine?"

"Oh, miss fancy pants? I haven't seen her since this morning. Now, quit making all that racket." Nikki stomped back into her apartment and closed the door.

Mouse scowled at the door. "Scary." He decided to make a hasty retreat back to the tunnel.

Vincent was waiting for him. "What news do you bring me, Mouse?"

"Catherine not there. No one there. Except crazy lady in hall. She said Catherine gone all day."

Vincent took a deep breath trying to unravel the mystery before him. Catherine had said she was going to see Elliot and then to the DA's office. "We will have to see if we can find them. Will you help Mouse?"

"Oh, yes. Mouse help Vincent. Mouse help Catherine. Mouse even help pretty girl. But does Mouse have to help scary man?"

Vincent would have laughed if he wasn't so tense with worry. "Yes, Mouse, you must help Inu Yasha as well. Come, we will check with Elliot first." Mouse followed Vincent as he led the way through the tunnels to an entrance near Elliot office building. Mouse left Vincent in the basement and went up the elevator to Elliot's office.

"Mr. Burch is a very busy man. You can't just come in here demanding to see him." The secretary scowled at the young man in tattered clothes. Mouse had been trying to see Elliot for about ten minutes.

"But Mouse has to see Elliot! Need to find Catherine!" Mouse was getting louder and it finally drew Elliot from his office.

"What seems to be the problem?"

Mouse faced him, his expression distraught. "Where's Catherine?"

"Catherine? Catherine Chandler? She was here early this morning but I believe she left shortly after we talked."

"When? Tell Mouse when?"

Elliot thought about that for a moment. "Maybe around eleven thirty or noon. Why? What's the matter? Is Catherine missing?"

"No time to talk. Have to go." Mouse hurried out into the hallway to catch an elevator as the doors started closing.

"Wait!" Elliot stared after the young man, wondering if something terrible had happened. He turned to the secretary. "Call the DA's office, see if you can get a hold of Miss Chandler."

Mouse found Vincent once again waiting for him at the entrance to the tunnels. "Elliot say Catherine was there this morning but left."

"When, Mouse?"

"Noon."

Vincent's brow furrowed. If she had left around noon then she should have been back many hours ago. The sun was now setting Above. "Come, we will check at Catherine's office." Again he led the way, his young companion hurrying in his wake.

Mouse ascended up through the garage as it was at the basement of the building leaving Vincent once again near the entrance to the tunnel. As he made his way up the ramps, he stopped as he saw blood on the ground. He followed the blood to an alcove beneath one of the ramps. He peered into the darkness and jumped when something made a small noise. He took a better look and saw silvery hair spread across the cement.

"Uh, oh. That bad." The boy bent down to try to drag the injured Inu Yasha out of the alcove but he was very heavy. Mouse gave up after a few attempts. "Mouse must tell Vincent." He hurried back to the place that he had left his friend.

Vincent caught the scent of blood as Mouse reappeared. "What is it, Mouse? Are you injured?"

"No, not Mouse. Vincent needs to help. Mouse can't carry him."

Panic and fear filled Vincent as he followed Mouse quickly to the place where he'd left the injured hanyou. As he tried to pull him out Vincent understood why Mouse had had such trouble. Although, Inu Yasha looked thin and lean he was extremely heavy. He had a body of pure muscle. The boy was pale and clammy and covered in blood. His breathing was shallow and his pulse was faint.

Vincent pulled him out and put him over his shoulder. They wouldn't be able to do anything for him here. They needed Father's assistance. As they returned to the tunnels, Vincent paused. "Mouse, send a message to Father. Tell him that Inu Yasha has been shot and that he is barely holding on to life." Mouse knelt to tap out the message as Vincent began to sprint through the tunnels as quickly as he dared. His heart pounded but not from his exertions, but from his fear. Where was Catherine? What had happened to Inu Yasha? Where was Kagome?

Vincent arrived at the hospital chamber, where Father and several others were waiting for him. "Vincent, my goodness! What's happened?"

Vincent laid Inu Yasha on the table. "I do not know Father. Mouse and I went looking for Catherine when she did not return on time. We found Inu Yasha in the DA's underground parking facility."

Father was already cutting away the tattered remains of Inu Yasha's shirt. "What of Catherine?"

"I do not know." Vincent looked down at the silver-headed man. "You must save him Father. He may be the only one who can tell us what has happened to her."

Mary came and took his arm guiding him out of the chamber. "Father will do his very best, Vincent. Don't worry now." She left him outside the entrance and returned to help Father.

It was several hours later when Father entered Vincent's chamber. He looked tired and stressed. "Father?"

He settled into one of the chairs. "I have done all I can Vincent. But I don't know how much hope there is. He has lost an enormous amount of blood. Put that with the number of built holes he has in him and his chances are slim."

"But he still lives?"

"Yes, for now. It is entirely up to him to now. If I had a way to give him a transfusion I would but I have no stores of his blood like I do yours."

"Could we use mine?"

Father shook his head. "No, you two are too different. It would probably cause more harm than help." He rubbed his hands over his tired face. "No. All we can do is wait."

And wait they did. For two days the hanyou didn't move. He lay deathly still in the hospital chamber, his breathing shallow and pulse weak. He was never left alone as to keep an eye on his vital. As the hours ground into days, Vincent was becoming impatient. "I must find Catherine, Father. I cannot wait on him to wake any longer."

"Vincent, I already have all our helpers Above searching for her. You don't even know where to start." Father picked up his patient's wrist to take his pulse, only to jump when it was ripped out of his hand.

"Hands off, gramps." The two stared as Inu Yasha opened his golden eyes to glare at Father.

"Inu Yasha, you are finally awake my friend." Vincent came to stand at the bedside.

"Finally? How long have I been out?"

"About two and half days." Vincent provided.

Inu Yasha's eyes snapped wide open. "What! Kagome, I need to get to Kagome." He struggled to sit up.

"You really shouldn't do that." Father protested and tried to push him back down into the bed.

The hanyou growled shoving his hands away. "Feh, I ain't like you weak humans. I'm a half demon and I heal whole lot faster." He tried to stand. "I need my Tetsusaiga."

"Your sword? It's here." Vincent reached down beside the bed and pulled it out. "I brought it here. I thought perhaps it might help in some way."

Inu Yasha took it, using it like a crutch as he often did in the past. "We have to find Kagome."

"You are in no shape to go running about the city!" Father declared. "I have put too much work into putting you back together."

Inu Yasha refused to be settled back on the bed. "These wounds are nothing. I've had far worse in the past." 'Though these don't seem to be healing as well.'

"Father is right, my friend. You will only do your body more damage." Vincent put a hand on his shoulder, which Inu Yasha quickly shoved off.

"What's the matter with you? Your mate and mine have just been kidnapped and taken off with in one of those metal carriage things."

Vincent gasped. "What has happened to Catherine? Who did this?"

Inu Yasha stood a little straighter finally working the kinks out of his back. "I don't know. I don't have any enemies here." He looked down at his injured body with loathing. How could he have done this? How could he have let them take his mate? Even in his demon form he hadn't been able to stop them. "In my time, I could track her by her scent."

"Could you do the same here?" Vincent was trying desperately to restrain himself from shaking the young man.

Inu Yasha wiggled his ears. "I don't know. I tracked Kagome across Tokyo once but she had cut herself and the scent was fresh." He looked at Vincent. "You said two days?"

"Yes."

"I can do it." Inside Inu Yasha wasn't as certain as he was putting on. A two-day old scent in a city of millions? It was not going to be easy.

"No! I forbid it. You are too injured to be running around the city."

Inu Yasha glared at Father. "Watch me." And with that he left the room for the guest chamber. If he were going into battle, he'd need his fire-rat haori. Vincent met him as he reemerged dressed in his traditional clothes.

"If you insist on going, I must go with you. Catherine needs me."

Inu Yasha grinned. "I wouldn't expect anything less. Take me back to the place you found me and make it quick." Vincent nodded and once they were out of the main hub, he picked up pace. He was impressed to see the young man kept up with him even as he increased his speed. He wondered if perhaps the boy was more formidable than he looked.

A/N: I have already started on the next chapter but it may be a few days till I get a chance to update because of work.
