Enjoy :)
After things had settled down, Jocelyn made the decision that I was going to at least get my GED before I moved on with my life as a Shadowhunter. So I'd gone around and gotten the papers signed today for it. I officially had my GED and I never had to return to this school again.
I slammed shut my locker for the final time and kicked it for good measure. I turned and slung my bag over my shoulder. When I did, I saw a group of girls rushing to another girl's locker where they whispered conspiratorially together. I rolled my eyes. Mundane gossip was worse than Shadowhunter gossip. And it was rarely entertaining.
I brushed by the girls and one, I think her name was Sarah, grabbed my arm. I turned to her with a sigh.
"What?" I asked, ready to be out of here yesterday. She grinned brightly, her friends standing behind her.
"Did you hear about the new kid? He's HOT. Like, double T, hot," she squealed. I rolled my eyes.
"Good to know," I sighed, pulling away. She grabbed my arm again, and I turned.
"Sarah, I don't care about the new kid. Today's my last day, I'm never coming back here, why should I care?" She looked at me, startled.
"Oh. Um, okay. Uh, have, like, a good life, I guess?" I rolled my eyes.
"You too, Sarah." I continued on my way, a new round of whispers starting up. I hadn't told anyone yet that it was my last day, only Sheila, Eric's girlfriend so the news was going to be the best gossip for Sarah to be able to start since she dated the star quarter back.
I was almost to the doors when an arm snaked around my waist. I immediately twisted out of the person's hold, spinning around and raising my hand to connect my fist to their nose.
A familiar hand caught my fist before it could connect and I grinned when I saw the black lines tattooed on it. "Too slow."
I beamed up at Jace, jumping forwards and wrapping my arms around his waist. He chuckled, his arms wrapping around my back. I pulled away, still grinning.
"Why are you here? I mean, I'm glad you are, but why?" He leaned down without responding, pressing his lips firmly against mine. The kiss was cut short when a shoulder slammed into my back and I stumbled. Jace glared at the boy who had stumbled into me and the poor kid scrambled off, almost slipping.
"Jace!" I slapped his chest with the back of my hand, although I was still grinning. He just shrugged.
"You thought I was going to let you walk home alone from your last day of school?" I'm pretty sure I grinned even more, if that was even possible.
"I love you, you know," I said, grabbing his hand. He smiled and winked.
"I know you do. Everyone does." I rolled my eyes playfully at him and he slid the bag off of my shoulder and slung it onto his.
I thanked him with a kiss on the cheek. Then I looked around and noticed that we'd received some attention. Probably half of the student body was staring at us with open mouths, whispering to their friends. Before I could even move, I felt a hand grab my shoulder, then Sarah was squealing in my ear.
"Oh my god, you're dating the new kid?! I thought you were leaving today? Oh my god, your boyfriend is HOT!" I looked at her incredulously. She apparently had no pride. Was she really saying all that in front of Jace?
I looked at Jace with raised brows to see him smirking. Then I looked back to Sarah.
"He's not a new kid," I told her. "He's my boyfriend." She rolled her eyes, flipping her blonde, over-straightened hair over her shoulder.
"Clearly," she said. I scowled at her as she shamelessly checked out Jace.
"I mean, he's here to pick me up, not be checked out by some chick he doesn't even know. You think you'd calm your hormones just a little, since his girlfriend is standing right here," I snapped at her. She looked at me with wide eyes.
"Jeez, Clare. Way to be a bitch," a guy said, coming up behind Sarah and putting an arm around her waist. I scowled at him.
"Don't call me Clare," I snapped, just as Jace growled, "Don't talk to her like that."
He pulled me to his side, glaring cruelly at the boy. Josh, I recalled vaguely. Sarah looked up at him as though she'd just saved him from a gunman, not someone telling her off for ogling their boyfriend.
"Who are you?" Josh asked, looking Jace up and down.
Jace was wearing a black T-shirt and his Marks stood out proudly on his arms and neck. His muscles were accented by designs burned into his skin. He was taller than Josh, and I wondered where Josh could find the courage to stand up to him. Hell, I could kick his ass. Jace would have no problem throwing Josh around like a Frisbee.
"Someone you don't know," Jace growled out, holding my hand tightly. I took a step to the side, pulling Jace with me.
"C'mon, Jace."
He followed easily, but continued to glare at the idiotic couple.
"You should listen to your girlfriend, Jacey," Josh taunted, clearly thinking that Jace wasn't going to do anything. I cursed under my breath as Jace stopped and turned to face Josh, pulling his hand from mine.
"You want a fight?" Jace asked bluntly, his eyebrow cocked. I sighed, stepping back. There was no way I was stopping this. Josh looked startled and stammered a little before gaining his bravado back.
"Do you?" As a response, Jace stepped forward, pulling his arm back before letting it fly forward.
It connected to Josh's nose with a sickening crack. The boy fell back to the floor and Jace looked down at him disdainfully, as though he was a piece of gum on the sidewalk that dared to get stuck to his shoe.
"You should watch what you say to a lady," Jace spat, turning away and grabbing my hand again. He pulled me along with him as I fought a smile.
"We should probably do more than leisurely walk out of here, you know," I said. Jace grinned down at me, his golden eyes glowing with adrenalin, even though it hadn't been much of a fight.
"We can run when they call the cops," he said, sticking his tongue out at me childishly. I laughed, shaking my head as he pushed the doors open, gesturing for me to walk through ahead of him.
"Wow, you're just the poster boy of chivalry today, huh?" He beamed at me and bowed mockingly.
"Anything for m'lady," he said with a cheeky grin. I laughed as he grabbed my hand, pulling me with him down the steps of the school. I heard the doors swing open behind me and looked back to see the principal rushing out of the doors, his face red as he huffed his way down the stairs.
I looked to Jace, who looked at me with a grin.
"Now we run," he said, breaking into a sprint and pulling me along beside him. I laughed gleefully as he tugged me behind him.
We kept running even after the school was long behind us, dodging pedestrians as we went. I ran along with him until we reached the Institute, where he turned suddenly enough that I ran into his chest with a small squeak. He chuckled before lifting my chin up so that I met his eyes.
"Why did we run?" I asked, only slightly out of breath. We'd been training for a while now, so it was much easier to run for long distances.
"Because I wanted you to be done with school as soon as possible and now that you're here, you're officially done." I grinned widely.
"Finally. I never had to go back to there again." He smirked.
"It'd probably be a pretty good idea not to now anyway," he joked. I laughed again, tangling my fingers with his.
"Now we have full days to spend together doing whatever we want," he said, winking suggestively.
I slapped his chest playfully.
"Yeah, we can spend all day training and reading up on Shadowhunter history," I said, looking at him teasingly. He narrowed his eyes at me lightheartedly and leaned down to whisper in my ear.
"I have a much better idea," he said alluringly. My cheeks were flaming but I still managed to come up with a sarcastic response.
"Makeovers with Izzy?" He growled playfully.
"I don't think you're getting it. Do I need to show you what I mean?"
"Oh, I think you might have to," I said, grinning at him.
He grinned cockily at me and grabbed my hand, tugging me into the Institute and towards the elevator. By the time he'd pulled me into his room, I was more glad than ever that school was finally over. I was completely okay with spending full days doing exactly what Jace had in mind for us.
Hope you liked it :)
