R.I.P Damon and Bonnie

Finn had never fit in, in his family. He was forever the outcast, the black sheep and when he was 18 he'd had enough and ran away. He and his siblings had been raised in a criminal environment. His father was cold and hard and his mother distant. Finn considered himself lucky to have been immune to their poison. It made him sad to see his siblings turn into psychopaths for they had not always been that way…

"I'm bored" a 10 year old Klaus moaned.

They were waiting in the living room for their monthly viewing by they're father. All of them were dressed to they're best in uncomfortable and itchy clothes. Kol kept fussing, finding the clothes unbearable. Klaus kept complaining as usual. Elijah had a serene expression on his face. Rebekah was chewing a sweetie she'd nicked from the kitchens.

"Why does Bekah getta sweetie?" Kol cried.

Rebekah just grinned at her brother with a smug smile.

"Because she stole it" Finn scolded his sister.

"These clothes are so itchy!" Kol wailed for the umpteenth time.

Klaus rolled his eyes at his brother's behavior which he found tiring. His father and a strange boy came into the room, he looked really nervous.

"This is Marcel" Mikael introduced.

"Hello Marcel" was chorused with Kol a few seconds behind.

The boy simply nodded.

"I'll leave you to get acquitted" Mikael said before he left.

"Typical father" Finn mumbled, "We only saw him for five seconds"

"And we wore these itchy clothes for nothing!" Kol stomped.

In a rage, Kol left the room. Elijah sighed and followed him out of the room. Finn and Rebekah went to get more sweeties, leaving Klaus and the new boy alone.

"So has Father, like adopted you?" Klaus asked.

Marcel nodded.

"Can you speak?" Klaus wondered.

"Yes" Marcel chuckled.

"My siblings are pretty nuts, huh?" Klaus raised his brow.

"Yeah" Marcel laughed.

"Do you wanna play?" Klaus asked.

"Ok" Marcel shrugged.

Finn missed the days went his family were innocent children. Elijah stared becoming more of a criminal in his late teens. He was the first that Mikael recruited to the 'business'. Klaus couldn't wait to join Mikael and Elijah in the family business. Kol was corrupted quickly and he was the last son to join and then Rebekah. The days of itchy clothes and stealing sweets were long gone...

...

April Augustine nee' Young hated her husband. She hated him with a passion; the man made her sick. He was twisted, evil and adulterous. April had lost count of the amount of times he'd cheated on her. It felt like he'd slept with half the girls in Italy. April had met Enzo when she was backpacking through Europe. Her father had just died in a gas explosion and she had three months before she had to go to University. Her father had left her a lot of money and she decided to get away. April was drinking in an Italian Coffee shop and he sat next to her striked up a conversation. Enzo had been charming and pretended to be gentlemen. It was all a big mistake. April will get her revenge, she was sure of it.

Meredith and Nadia had been at the Augustine Mansion for a few days. Nadia had spent almost every second with her lost love, Alex. Meredith had mostly been left to broad in the corner. Meredith knew she wouldn't last a day by herself, she'd been trying to trace the people that got her son but the file was untraceable. Her son could be anywhere and with anyone. She didn't trust anyone in that house.

She turned on the TV and switched it to the news. They were still going on about her great escape:

"Three days ago there was a mass break out at a highly secure female prison. Infamous inmates such as, Nadia Petrova, Meredith Fell and Greta Strong"

A few inmates had tagged along with them. Meredith was getting sick and tired of the same old report so she was about to change the channel but something happened to make her keep watching. Kol's image flittered on the television. It was him at his trial, wearing a deeply handsome suit but looking anxious.

"Meredith Fell was the lover of Kol Mikaelson, a member of the Mikaelson crime family. She had convicted six years ago and gave birth in prison"

Meredith hated her personal life being splashed across the newspapers. Seeing Kol only intensified her hate for bringing her this low. She had a life before she met him. As soon as she laid eyes on him, her common sense went out of the window.

"The public is to be warned that all of the prisoners are extremely dangerous and must be approached with caution"

"Are you watching the news?" Enzo asked as he sat down next to her.

He looked very smug for some reason, like a cat that's got its mouse. Meredith rolled her eyes at his flirtatious body language. Enzo picked up the remote and turned it off.

"Watching the news isn't very good for you" he smirked.

"Then what is?" Meredith raised her eyebrow.

Enzo leaned forwards, invading her personal space. Then he ran his finger slowly up her thigh.

"Why don't you show me how highly dangerous you are" he whispered in a seductive tone.

Meredith knocked his hand off and moved to the armchair. Enzo let out a sign of irritation and disappointment.

"Are you still Kol's girl after all these years?" he asked.

"No" Meredith answered firmly, "Just because I'm a criminal; doesn't mean I'm a slut. What about your loving wife?"

April passed at this moment to go into the kitchen. Meredith felt sorry for the poor woman. Who was obviously too afraid to leave him and had to be stuck inside a loveless marriage. Enzo rolled his eyes at the mention of his wife. Inside the kitchen, April's respect for Meredith grew at the sound of her rejecting him.

"What about her?" Enzo said coldly.

"Why did you marry her if you don't love her?" Meredith snarled.

"She seemed like a good doormat" Enzo shrugged.

"What would you do if she cheated on you?" Meredith asked.

April was listening intently to the conversation.

"She wouldn't dare"

The cell door banged open like it's done every morning for the last six years. The familiar sound of the guards boots on the ground as they raised the prisoners from their sleepy depths. Kol was awake immediately; he can't even remember what it was like to have a lie in. Jeremy, the new bane of his life was stirring from the bottom bunk.

"Open cell 4b…4b open…open cell 4c…4c open" came the usual chant of the guards.

Kol picked up his washing things and stepped out of the cell with Gilbert beside him who was still rubbing the sleep off his young eyes. The guards looked them over like they were nothing but dirt on his shoe. America's most dangerous men were assembled here. They had everything from, murders, rapists, drug lords, terrorists and gangsters; like him. The guards had to be tough in that prison. It was a no nonsense kind of place.

They made their usual way the wash rooms. Each man had a mirror and sink to himself. Kol quickly learned when he came in that there was no such thing as privacy anymore. But Kol had adjusted to that a long time ago and no longer cared. He was standing next to Jeremy and Monty under the watchful eyes of the guards. Monty (aka: Monty the Mouth) was currently shaving himself in front of the mirror. He's in the cell next to his and as his nickname suggests; he's got a rather large mouth.

"Guess what I heard" he whispered to Kol when the guards had shifted their steely gaze to someone else.

Kol immediately grew irritated as he began washing his face.

"What?" he said in an annoyed tone.

"Your old love has escaped from prison" he chuckled, "There was a mass break out"

Kol's body immediately stiffened at the news. Meredith was free? Would she come and get him? He hoped not because she would certainly get caught again. But she was free and was properly going to find their son. He felt an ache of pain at the thought of not being with them. Kol knew where his son was; maybe he could get a message to her? But how could he? Kol was one of the most dangerous prisoners in America or maybe even the world. How could he send a message without being caught?

Caroline was packing the last of the suitcases as her confused son watched her. Klaus was loading everything else into the car and scraping enough money to last them. Henrik didn't know what was going on. Why did that man call his daddy, 'Klaus'? Everything was so confusing.

"Where are we going?" the innocent asked.

"I can't say sweetie; sorry" Caroline apologized.

"Why did that man call Daddy: Klaus?" the boy wondered.

Caroline knelt down to his level and looked her son in the eyes. She looked sympathetic while the boy just looked lost.

"We'll talk about that later but for now you're just going to have to trust us" Caroline said, "OK?"

Henrik nodded, Caroline smiled and then got up to continue packing. The boy left his mother and went downstairs to see his father on the phone. His father looked angry and different to the man who raised him.

"…I don't care if you've gone straight Marcel" his father growled, "I need you to fix us up with a place…because my brother Finn has just paid a visit"

His father had a brother?

Henrik was eager to hear the rest of the conversation but he was interrupted by his mother calling his name. His father turned around to see his son looking at him like he was a stranger.

"Just do it" Klaus said, using his gangster tone.

With that he cut off Marcel and got back to the computer.

"Daddy" Henrik spoke up, "I'm confused"

"Welcome to the club"

"What happened?" Elijah asked as they both sat down next to the roaring fire.

Elijah couldn't help but think that Elena looked even more beautiful than the last time he saw her, even though she looked worried and anxious.

"They kicked me out because I failed a mission which compromised loads of agents" Elena admitted bleakly, "And I failed to kill Klaus so they fired me"

Elijah looked at the beautiful woman before him with pity. He came over to her and sat on the desk. Elijah held one of her hands, holding it protectively. Elena smiled at this small contact.

"I am sorry" Elijah sympathized.

"Thanks" Elena gave a small smile, "But this also affects you. You see I was the one who hid you and with me gone they will hand you over to the American Government"

Elijah felt paralyzed with fear; he couldn't move. His jaw dropped in shock and astonishment. Everything that he'd worked so hard for will disappear. What will his staff think of him? They are like his family. Elena stood up and hugged him with a tear going down her cheek.

"I am so sorry; this is all my fault" Elena sobbed.

"No it's mine" Elijah corrected, "I'm the one that got mixed up in crime"

Elena nodded slowly. A soft knock was heard on the door; Elijah recognized it as Anna's. They rapidly left each other's embrace and sat on the chairs in a business like format.

"There are some men here to see you"

Elijah and Elena swapped a fearful look. Elena made a shushing sound and pointed to the window next to them. Elijah nodded in understanding.

"I'll be out in a moment" Elijah called.

He stood up and opened a safe. Elijah took out all of the money and proceeded to the window with his heart pounding with panic. Elena opened the window and together they managed to slip away.

"What are we going to say to him?" Caroline asked Klaus when they'd pulled over for petrol.

Henrik was in the car doing his spelling homework for a school that he'll never go back to. Klaus looked at his son with sympathy, the dream that they'd weaved around him was falling apart. The boy was confused; he didn't even know his father's real name.

"We can't trust him with the truth; he's only a child" Klaus answered.

"He's not going to stop asking questions" Caroline pointed out.

Klaus wished that his son was a little older and could but trusted with the truth. He didn't even know where he was going. Just anywhere that wasn't France. Klaus didn't trust Finn not to blab to the police and even if he didn't; if Finn could find them then the authorities could too. His worst nightmare was the thought of his son learning about his father's truth identity through the press or from a policeman. He knew his son would have to find out the truth someday but he wanted it to come from him and no one else.

"We just have to hold him off for now" Klaus said before he left to go and pay.

Caroline got back into the car and sat at the front. She could tell by Henrik's face that he'd been watching them talk.

"Where are we going?" he asked for the umpteenth time.

"Just on a little trip" Caroline lied.

Henrik looked skeptical but remained silent.

"You have to eat your greens" Jenna ordered.

The Gilbert family was settling down for dinner. Jenna had made her famous lasagna with some veg which was fresh from the garden. John had already finished his food and was gulping down some wine. Mikael had finished his lasagna but not his greens. This was a continual problem in the Gilbert household.

"Why" Mikael demanded.

"Because if you don't; you'll grow up all weak and none of the girls will like you"

John let out a bark of laughter but this seemed to work for Mikael because he'd always been a vain child. So without further complaints he finished off his greens. Jenna shared a smug look with John. Suddenly there was a knock at the door. John got up and walked to the door and opened it.

"My name is Agent Bennett" Bonnie introduced, flashing her badge; "Can we talk?"

"Sure" John looked confused, "Come in"

He led her to the dining room where Jenna was cleaning up the dishes and Mikael was playing with his DS. Jenna looked surprised and made her way over to greet her. Bonnie looked over to the boy who looked so much like his father.

"Can I speak to you in private please?"

A stunned Jenna and John nodded and told Mikael to do to his room. They should have known better because Mikael was listening to every word from outside the door. Bonnie and the Gilbert's sat down. John thought he knew what this was about.

"Is this about my nephew?" John asked, "I thought he was in prison"

"This has nothing to do with your nephew" Bonnie shook her head, "Be prepared because this is going to be a shock. Your son is the biological son of Kol Mikaelson and Meredith Fell"

Their expressions turned from confusion to shock. The whole room was dragged into a stunned silence. No one spoke for at least a few minutes. The little one outside didn't even know he was adopted. This was groundbreaking news for him and for once in his life; he was speechless.

"Why weren't we told?" John gasped.

"Safety reasons" Bonnie said, "If it leaked out that he was Kol Mikaelson's son-"

"Biological son!" John corrected, "That man is not his father! He's a murderer, a womanizer, a liar, a gangster and not worthy of such a title"

Bonnie felt a little put down and the man's bluntness. Jenna nodded her head vigorously.

"He is our son and this doesn't change a thing" Jenna agreed.

"There is something else that you need to know" Bonnie continued, "Meredith Fell has escaped from prison and we think she may be after your son"

Mikael gasped and so did his parents.

"What can we do?" John asked, desperately.

"Hide"

Mikael went upstairs and switched his laptop on. He typed: Kol Mikaelson; into the computer and searched. The more the boy read about him; the more he got frightened. He found a picture and stared at if for a while. Kol really did look like him; it was frightening. Mikael then looked up his mother; to the woman who was looking for him. He saw a picture of her holding her belly and looking very sad. This made him feel loved and even more curious about his family.
