Chapter 12 – Better With You
Brooke stood there staring at Nathan as he apologized and then proceeded to ask her to prom, after everything that had happened earlier he was the last person she expected at her door
It looked as if he'd been tormenting himself for hours, opening distraught about the argument they'd had before and the way things had ended.
Watching him she replayed the words in her head.
"Before you say anything I wanted to apologize. You mean more to me than anyone else and I let this whole drama with prom get out of hand. Brooke there's nothing more I want than to take you to prom."
As the words started to sink in, she realized they'd been standing there looking at each other without breaking eye contact for a few minutes.
"Yea-h.. that sounds good." She stammered out before stepping to the side and inviting him in with an arm motion.
Brooke waited until he'd passed her and then shut the door behind them. Turning around she watched him take a seat on her bed and couldn't help but let a smirk show.
No guy had ever felt so comfortable in her bed.
"So are we cool?" he asked looking up at her with a concerned expression covering his face.
If it had been anyone else, she would be holding on to the grudge longer but things had been rough enough between them without dragging out this last spat.
Walking over she sat down next to him, looking down at her freshly painted toenails as she began nodding her head yes.
"Let's just for get about it" she said in almost a whisper.
She wasn't proud of how she'd handle tings and forgetting about it is exactly what she wanted to do at the moment.
"I really care about you Brooke, more than I've ever cared about anyone else." More silence fell between them as she felt his hand on the side of her face, lifting it up to look into his eyes.
Suddenly everything was starting to make sense in her heart and surprisingly in her mind at the same time.
All the signs were there for once, the way he looked at her proved that he felt the exact way she did.
Leaning in, Brooke took it slow before her lips connected with his and the kiss was reciprocated. Everything felt so right, like this was suppose to happen all along.
Pulling back her eyes searched eagerly in his, hoping he didn't think it was a mistake or wanted to abruptly leave. Watching his blue eyes burrow into hers, she knew he wasn't going any where.
Slowly his lips eased back to hers, melting together as they met. Everything felt like a fairytale as he caressed her check.

Examining the dress she'd already picked out, she lifted the hanger and held the red silk against her frame.
"Red has always been your color" the skinning blonde next to her added as she watched Brooke.
"I just want to look really nice." She said getting caught up in her thoughts about last night, but noticing that Peyton was catching on she quickly added "You know it being out last big school dance and all."
"It has nothing to do with you and Nathan?" Peyton question as she turned her back to pick up her own dress and peered over her shoulder waiting on Brooke's answer.
Staring at the ground Brooke didn't want to get caught in a lie, after all Peyton was her friend and she didn't want it to appear like Brooke and Nathan had this relationship going on while Peyton and Nate had been dating.
"Things are just finally good between me and Nathan.. that's all" Brooke said trying to be as honest as possible. "Everything just got so bad for a while that if even for a little while it feels good to be like this."
Peyton laid her dress down across the bed and then mad her way over to Brooke, looking in the mirror she made eye contact with Brooke through the reflection.
"You know it's okay if you like him, right?"
Both of the girls stood there in their shimmering prom dresses, adding the last accessories before the limo arrived to pick them up.
"So are we going to have a drama free prom night or should I be prepared to separate you and Nathan?" Brooke asked turning to Peyton and raising her eyebrows curiously.
"As long as I don't catch his eyes on another girls ass then sure.. but if I do then I am so ditching him… I don't need his shit." The curly blonde stated matter-of-factly like she already knew the out come.
"Why do you even stay with him?" Brooke asked abruptly. "I mean Nathan is my best friend but he treats you like complete crap and it's like you could careless."
"We aren't exactly emotionally attached Brooke." Her eyes locked on Brooke like she was a complete idiot for believing they wanted something serious from one another. "It's just sex."
Swallowing hard, Brooke forced a smile. She didn't want to see her best friends just screw for the sake of screwing, it was bound to end with trouble.
"Is it Peyton?" she asked as she turned around to look directly at Peyton, genuinely curious if it would upset Peyton to see Nathan and her together.
"Are you kidding me?" Peyton asked, almost unable to control her laughter as she responded. "You and Nathan have always had this weird chemistry. It like everyone else could tell that you two had this connection except for the two of you."
Brooke tried to control her smile as she looked down, closing her eyes as she thought about how close her and Nathan had always been.
"Honestly it's about time, you and Nathan are meant to be and everyone knew it was just a matter of time before you both finally opened your eyes and figured it out." Peyton said in a matter of fact tone as she started to lay out the accessories to her outfit.
How had everyone else been able to see it for so long and not her?
Who was she to deny her feelings for the one person she'd always cared about?

Tightening her grip around Nathan's arm, she tried to ignore all the people stopping to stare as they entered the ballroom. It wasn't like they'd never gone anywhere together so why were they staring now.
Pulling at Nathan's arm she looked up at him whispering, "You'd think we'd just walked in naked…" Brooke joked without cracking a smile.
"They can't help but stare at how beautiful you are." He whispered back, squeezing her hand lightly before pulling her over towards their table. "Plus lets just be thankful the pictures have stopped" he teased referring to the past hour they'd spent at his parents pre prom party.
"Your mom had good intentions" Brooke tried to defend Deb even though she'd gone a little overboard with the memory idea.
"Get together you two!" Deb shouted towards Nathan and Brooke as she grabbed the photographers arm and pointed him in the direction of them posing. "Come on your going to want to remember this forever."
"Mom seriously… this is the millionth picture in the last hour.. How many will be enough?" Annoyance poured out as he moved closer to Brooke placing his hand on the small of her back.
Taking in a deep breathe she tried to ignore the chills he sent up her spine, his touch alone could cause an instant orgasm. Forcing a smile she cleared all sexual thoughts from her mind while pressing into him for the pose.
Waiting for the flashes to finish she tried to not get distracted by Nathan's antics.
"Aren't you ready for some alone time?" he whispered to her while playfully patting her ass.
"Nathan.." Brooke warned as she elbowed him in the side to knock him away. "Not in front of your mother" she muttered, giving Nathan and evil stare.
Brooke still wanting Deb to see her like she always had, the daughter she never had, not some slut that just instantly started screwing her son.
"I can wait" he whispered before leaning in and placing a kiss on her cheek.
Sitting her purse down on the table she slid her shawl off from around her shoulders and turned her body towards Nathan.
"I guess this is the part where I ask you to dance and then sweep you off your feet.." Nathan teased as he took Brooke's hand into his own and pulled her towards the dance floor.
Brooke had to admit it felt good to have his entire attention focused on her and making this night as perfect as it could be.
"Who knew Nathan Scott could be a romantic" she teased before following him and placing her hands on his broad shoulders as he wrapped his arms tightly around her waist.
Like cued by the heavens an old favorite beat came over the speakers, Better with you by Five Times August. Looking down her dimples deepened as she pressed against him more, whispering the lyrics along with the music.
"So
maybe I've got a lot to learn, Or maybe I'm just hangin' on my words.
Maybe it's not a big concern But, if I raise my hand will I
understand why I'm better with you?" Nuzzling her head into his
chest Brookes eyes fluttered shut, feeling safer than she'd ever
felt before. There's no where else she would rather be and there
wasn't a moment she would trade for this one. "Or maybe i've got
nothin' to lose But if I get out of line, just tell me you're mine,
and how I'm better with you."
