Hawaii Zeo
Monday morning rolled around and Jessica was ready to go back to school. She told her teachers that the surgery had been canceled due to a testing error and that she didn't need to have her thyroid removed. Maria took the kids during the day since she worked nights at the hospital. Now the group was focused on Nationals that following weekend. It was going to be a busy week for the rangers.
Monday was relatively quiet in the Ranger business, so the group worked super hard on their choreography and rehearsals. Nationals were going to be held in Hawaii and the group was anxious to spend five days in Paradise.
"Let's head out to the airport," said Sharon on Tuesday. It was an hour drive to L.A. from Angel Grove so the group was leaving at a normal hour.
"Break a leg everyone!" said Richard as he saw the group off. "Bring home a Championship!"
"Thanks Dad!" waved Jessica as they drove off.
Up on the moon, Mondo had noticed the group leaving.
"What's this?" cried Mondo. "The Rangers are going out of town! Splendid! This will give me a great opportunity to unleash a monster!"
An hour later, the group had arrived at LAX and checked-in and were situated on the airplane an hour after that.
After a long flight, the plane landed in Hawaii and the group was greeted by a Hawaiian tradition, Leis. The girls were scowling at the Hawaiian beauties that were lei-ing the boys. After Sharon met with the tour bus driver, they loaded all of the luggage and instruments onto the bus and headed for their hotel
"Okay you guys, here's your room assignments," said Sharon after they had checked in at the hotel. "Meet back down here in an hour for a quick rehearsal and then we can spend the rest of the afternoon exploring Paradise."
Jessica and Rocky opened up their room and Jessica grinned.
"Oh my god, this is even more amazing than Australia!" said Jessica.
"Yeah, that was a fun trip, but this is even better!" said Rocky. "I'm glad that my mom agreed to baby-sit the kids for the weekend and give your dad some peace and quiet."
"Poor Lexie, I feel bad we couldn't bring her," said Jessica. "Well, there will be plenty of opportunity to get the kids souvenirs."
"Maybe we could come back for our honeymoon and bring them with us," said Rocky as he unpacked their suitcases.
"Actually, I was thinking Disney World and Universal Studios," said Jessica.
"I like that idea even more!" said Rocky, looking like a kid on Christmas.
"So when do you want to have the big day?" asked Jessica. "I was thinking a Fall wedding."
"I could deal with that," said Rocky. "But Aisha and Billy's is going to be in the Fall."
"Oh yeah, I forgot," said Jessica. "How about close to Christmas and our birthdays?"
"I like that even more!" said Rocky, kissing her on the lips.
After the two unpacked, they headed back downstairs and joined the others in the lobby.
"Okay everyone, we have Conference Room One for a rehearsal spot," said Sharon. "Let's rehearse for an hour and then have some dinner. We have check-in at the theatre at 8 AM tomorrow so I want to rehearse a bit more after we eat."
"Sounds good, Mom," said Tommy.
"I hope to God we don't have the death slot," muttered Jessica as the group entered the conference room.
"Me too," said Tanya.
"Okay, let's take it from the top then," said Sharon as the band set up their instruments.
"Oh, the pesky rangers are singing in another competition!" said Machina as she kept an eye on the Rangers.
"Not again!" said Sprocket. "Remember what happened last time? They destroyed my monster!"
"I have an excellent idea, let's send a monster down to the Rangers' little hotel and ruin the competition?" asked Klank.
"A splendid idea!" said Mondo. "I trust you can build be a perfect monster?"
"Yes Sire, right away, Sire," said Klank.
Down at the hotel, the group was getting ready to rehearse for the first time.
"Is everyone all here?" Kat asked.
"Looks like it," said Jessica as Sharon counted the group. Suddenly, several screams rang out and the group turned to see some cogs and a monster standing in the lobby of the hotel.
"Oh hell no, not now!" muttered Jill.
"Everyone get to safety!" Tommy shouted as people ran by screaming. The non-ranger members of the Flyers, including David, who nodded to Tommy in acknowledgement, raced to safety, Sharon ushering people away from the hotel. When the coast was clear, the rangers morphed and led the monster and Cogs outside.
"Oh, the Power Rangers, oh I'm so scared!" the monster cried. They were able to get a better look at him now as the Cogs teased the Rangers. He was a giant volcano monster, with palm leaves and pineapples dangling from his arms. "Let's have a luau, Rangers!"
"Ai yi yi yi yi!" Alpha cried from the Power Chamber as the battle came up on the viewing screen. "Mondo's attacking the show choir nationals in Hawaii!"
"This is disturbing news," Sarah said. "There are too many people on that island."
"I agree, Darling, if that monster rampages the island, volcanoes will explode, and disaster will strike," Zordon replied. He spoke to the Rangers through the communicators.
"Rangers, you must destroy this monster," Zordon said. "If you don't, he will blow up the entire island."
"Copy that," Jessica replied as she kicked a cog. "Come on guys, let's get him!"
The rangers defeated the cogs and stood in front of Volcanotron, as he referred to himself.
"Alright Rangers, let's tango," said Volcanotron. "Have some pineapples!" He threw the pineapples on his arms and the rangers were sent back in a shower of sparks.
"Whoa!" cried the rangers.
"That's it, nobody ruins MY vacation!" growled Rocky. "Let's get this hothead!"
"Break out the hardware you guys!" said Tommy, pulling out his sword. The other rangers followed suit, their weapons in hand. One by one, they fought back against Volcanotron and Jill took a shot at his arms.
"OW OW OW!" said Volcanotron, stepping back as his arms fell off.
"YES!" cried Tommy. "Nice work, Sis, now let's finish him! Zeo Cannon!"
The rangers pulled out the heavy artillery and aimed the cannon at Volcanotron.
"Oh no!" moaned Volcanotron.
"READY! FIRE!" cried the rangers and Volcanotron exploded into a shower of sparks and dust.
"Yeah!" cried the rangers.
"That'll teach Mondo to mess with us on our vacation!" said Rocky.
"I suggest that he take one himself, because we'll be ready whenever he is and he'll lose!" Jessica said up into the sky.
"CURSES!" shouted Mondo from on the moon. "Those power brats have foiled my plans again. They've won today, but next time I will have a huge plan for them, and to bring down the Gold Ranger!"
With Mondo giving up, the rangers enjoyed the rest of their vacation, while getting ready for Nationals the following day. They went surfing, paddleboarding, and even took an authentic Hawaiian Outrigger canoe trip from the hotel. Now the group was about to go on stage for Nationals. Jessica had been right, and the group had been given the very first performance slot. Jessica had the solo, and she took a deep breath as Rocky massaged her shoulders and the announcer introduced the Flyers.
"LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, WELCOME TO THE 1997 NATIONAL SHOW CHOIR CHAMPIONSHIPS! PLEASE WELCOME YOUR JUDGES FOR THE EVENING..."
"You got this, Babe," Rocky said to Jessica. "Knock 'em dead."
"PLEASE WELCOME, OUR FIRST SHOW CHOIR OF THE EVENING, FROM ANGEL GROVE HIGH SCHOOL IN ANGEL GROVE, CALIFORNIA, THE ANGEL GROVE FLYERS!"
The music began as Jessica headed out onto the stage. The girls stood in the back with the band as Jessica began to sing.
Jessica: There were nights when the wind was so cold
That my body froze in bed
If I just listened to it
Right outside the window
Girls: Ah ah
Jessica: There were days when the sun
Was so cruel
That all the tears turned to dust
And I just knew my eyes
Were drying up forever
Girls: Ah ah Forever
Jessica: I finished crying
In the instant that you left
And I can't remember where or when
Or how
And I banished every memory
You and I had ever made
But when you touch me like this
And you hold me like that I just have to admit
Jessica and Girls: That it's all coming back to me
It's all coming back
It's all coming back to me now
Jessica: There were moments of gold
And there were flashes of light
There were nights of endless pleasure
It was more than all your Laws allowed
Baby, baby, baby
When you touch me like this
And when you hold me like that
It was gone with the wind
But it's all coming back to me
I can barely recall
But it's all coming back to me now.
As Jessica belted out the final note, the crowd roared and leaped to their feet and clapped and cheered. Jessica hurried offstage as the group performed their final number. The music began and the audience clapped as the girls minus Jessica hurried out with the boys. Rocky walked out last for the guys.
Flyers: Sha-ooo, shop shop, sha-oo, shop shop, sha-oo, shop shop shop shop...
Rocky:
Well, I remember every little thing
As if it happened only yesterday
Parking by the lake
And there was not another car in sight
At that point, Jessica came off stage left and Rocky took her into his arms to dance and sing.
And I never had a girl
Looking any better than you did
And all the kids at school
They were wishing they were me that night
Adam and Flyers:
And now our bodies are oh-so close and tight
It never felt so good, it never felt so right
Jill and Flyers:
And we're glowing like the metal on the edge of a knife
Glowing like the metal on the edge of a knife
Adam (Tommy):
Come on (Hold tight)
Oh, come on (Hold tight)
Kat and Tanya with Flyers:
Though it's cold and lonely in the deep dark night
Rocky and Adam with the Flyers:
I can see paradise by the dashboard light
Rocky(with Flyers):
Though it's cold and lonely in the (deep dark) (and Tanya and Flyers: night)
Tanya with Flyers:
In the deep dark night
Rocky (Tanya):
Paradise by the (dashboard light)
Rocky and Adam:
We're gonna go all the way tonight
We're gonna go all the way
And tonight's the night
Tommy, Rocky, and Adam:
We're gonna go all the way tonight
We're gonna go all the way
And tonight's the night
Tommy, Rocky, Adam, Kat, and Tanya:
We're gonna go all the way tonight
We're gonna go all the way
And tonight's the night
Flyers:
We're gonna go all the way tonight
We're gonna go all the way
And tonight's the night
Just then, Jessica appeared at the top of the steps that were on the stage, and held her hand out in front of her, the girls crowding around her.
Jessica:
Stop right there
I gotta know right now
She made her way across the stage, serenading Rocky as he watched her sing and perform the choreography.
Jessica: Before we go any further
Do you love me?
Will you love me forever?
Do you need me?
Will you never leave me?
Will you make me so happy
For the rest of my life?
Will you take me away
And will you make me your wife?
Rocky(Girls):
Let me sleep on it (Sleep on it)
Baby, baby let me sleep on it (Sleep on it)
Let me sleep on it
And I'll give you an answer in the morning
Jessica (Flyers):
I gotta know right now
Do you love me? (Do you, do you love me?)
Will you love me forever?
Do you need me? (Do you, do you need me?)
Will you never leave me?
Will you make me so happy (Will you never leave me)
For the rest of my life?
Will you take me away (Do you, do you, do you)
And will you make me your wife?
(with Flyers: Uh, do you love me?)
Will you love me forever?
Boys:
Let me sleep on it
Girls:
Will you love me forever?
Boys:
Let me sleep on it
Girls:
Will you love me forever?
Rocky(with Flyers):
I couldn't take it any longer
Lord, I was crazed
And when the feeling came upon me
Like a tidal wave
I started (swearing to my god)
And on my (mother's) grave
That I would (love you to the end of time)
I swore I would (love you to the end of time)
The crowd cheered and clapped as Rocky and Jessica came down center stage to sing the finale of the song.
Flyerss:
Ah, ah, ah
Rocky and Jessica with Flyers:
So now I'm praying for the end of time
To hurry up and arrive
'Cause if I gotta spend another minute with you
I don't think that I can really survive
I'll never break my promise or forget my vow
Jessica pointed to Rocky as he hit the high note and grinned.
Rocky: But God only knows what I can do right now
I'm praying for the end of time
It's all that I can do (Jessica: All that I can do)
Prayin' for the end of time
So I can end my time with you! (Jessica You, yeah)
Rocky with Flyers(Jessica):
It was long ago and it was far away (It never felt so good, It never felt so right)
And it was so much better than it is today. (Tanya: Better than it is today) (And we were glowing like the metal on the edge of a knife)
It was long ago and it was far away (It never felt so good, It never felt so right)
And it was so much better than it is today. (Tanya: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah) (And we were glowing like the metal on the edge of a knife)
It was long ago and it was far away (It never felt so good, It never felt so right)
And it was so much better than it is today. (Tanya: Long ago, oh) (And we were glowing like the metal)
Rocky and Jessica with Flyers:
Felt so right
Felt so good
Paradise (Tanya: Paradise!)
Once again, the crowd roared with approval and cheered and clapped as the Flyers took a bow.
"CONGRATULATIONS ANGEL GROVE FLYERS!"
The decorated banner was hanging up at the Beach Club a few days later as everyone celebrated the Flyers' victory at Nationals. Ernie had turned the celebratory party into a luau, in keeping with the Hawaiian theme. There were hula dancers, a fire breather, and a pig was cooking over stones, buried in the sand.
"We did it you guys!" Jessica said excitedly as she raised her glass.
"To a first-place victory!" said Tommy. The group cheered and clinked their pineapple cups.
"You know, I don't think I will ever look at a pineapple the same way again," said Jill with a look of horror on her face. "Volcanotron was creepy."
"At least Mondo didn't ruin the rest of our vacation," Adam added.
"Hey guys, come take a look at this!" said Richard with a smile on his face. The group hurried up to the counter and looked at the portable television sitting on the counter.
"In local news today, the Angel Grove High School show choir, The Flyers, took first-place at the Show Choir National Championship this past weekend in Honolulu, Hawaii. The choir is led by Angel Grove High School choir teacher, Sharon Hartgrove, who says she owes the group's success to her hardworking students, including her son and two step-daughters and their friends. The group is having a private party at Ernie's Beach Club today and declined to have press there. In other news, a monster attack took place the same weekend in Honolulu as the Flyers were leaving their hotel to go to Nationals. The Power Rangers showed up and saved the day, yet again restoring peace on Earth. We will never know who the Power Rangers truly are, but you can bet they will show up whenever they are needed."
The group grinned at each other as the crowd around them clapped. As the group dispersed, the rangers smiled at each other again.
"Just another beautiful day in paradise," joked Rocky. The group laughed.
