Chapter 12

Once Tai and his mother had gotten Kari into fresh clothing, they had left Kari to sleep, Although he didn't know what his mother had been doing to his sister, he was more concerned on why she had suddenly passed out, in fact when he had left to get the towels, she had colour in her face, but when he returned, he face had paled dramaticly, but he couldn't figure out why.

As he was pondering these thought's the doorbell rang, ripping his thoughts out and answering the door since he was a lot closer. When he noticed who was there he gave a sad smile, "Hey guy's, here to see Kari?" they all nodded, when came to the door, "I'm sorry kids, but Kari's really not well at the moment, she's asleep at the moment."

Davis stepped forward, "That's okay, we just wanted to see how she was doing, here Tai could you give these to her for us? And tell her we will see her at school next week." Tai could see disappointment in the boy's face but he smiled to him. "Sure Davis, she will appreciate whatever you guy's have done for her. Tell you what tomorrow's not a school day I'll see if she's feeling up to coming to the park ok?" He gave a wink indicating the digital world. That lit their faces up and nodded, but Tai felt a hand on his shoulder, "that's if she gets the ok from me and her father, after all Tai your still grounded."

Tai nodded, knowing his mother would never notice them gone anyway Davis gave a smile to the boy, "Thanks Tai, can't wait to see her." Tai nodded and watched them leave, most of them held disappointment, as he closed the door looking down at the bag, they had been to a shop called hot topic, from what he could see, curiosity got to him as he pulled out the leather jacket, he laughed slightly remembering what Davis had told him back at the hospital.

Flashback

Davis and Tai was in the hallway at the hospital talking about what had happened at the ware house, and that Kari had swore about being on a bumpy ride to the hospital, "And then she said I better buy her a leather jacket soccer boy! I swear Tai I never thought she would come out with any of them words. I don't know about you but I like this strong independent side of her."

Tai shivered slightly not exactly wanting to hear Davis say anything sexual about his sister, but he smiled, Kari had become a bad arse little rebel Making him wonder on how long it would be before Kari could beat him hands down at anything.

End of flashback

"He actually bought her the leather jacket, a nice looking one too at… " his eye's widened, at the price, £75! "where the hell does that kid get his allowance?" he placed the item back in the bag and decided to hid it in his room until Kari woke up. For some reason he had a feeling if he placed it in his sisters room it would suddenly up and go missing before she could see the gift. Now he had to try and get back to figuring out why Kari was being so silent and afraid of their mother.

Rubbing his head sighing, he wasn't going to get anywhere moment, so he decided to sit on the sofa watching some TV before dinner. When his nose picked up something, "Oh great the meatloafs burnt! Mum! Can we order out?"

"We cannot Tai I spent all afternoon cooking!" Tai Groaned as he waited for dinner.

Later that night, After everyone had gone to bed, Kari was awake, she had woken up due to Tai bringing in her dinner for once, with a huge smile and a bag on his wrist, she was confused, but didn't want to speak much due to her throat being slashed up earlier, "Here, eat something please, mum said you didn't each lunch and from judging earlier I could see why. Oh Davis and the gang stopped by to drop this off."

She had looked into the contents of the bag, and instantly her eye's filled up with Tears, "he actually bought me it…. Dufus…" she spoke it was low, but scratchy, she had hugged the jacket close before sitting with her brother eating dinner.

Now he was asleep, her father was at work across town, saying he wouldn't be back till morning. Tai had claimed he was feeling sleepy an hour after he ate and was asleep an hour later, suddenly she heard movement on the landing floor.

Looking towards the door, her fear was confirmed, her mother was stood there, her father's leather belt in one hand and an evil grin on her face. "So… what are we going to be saying at court?"

"Fuck you… Sho is going to jail mother.." her mother shook her head slightly "Wrong answer bitch." She brought the belt down on Kari's front, "now what are we going to say?" Kari never answered as the belt was brought down again, but her mother wasn't getting any satisfaction. "take off your top" Kari sat still. "I said TAKE IT OFF! No one will be able to hear you! I placed sleeping pills in Tai's and Gatomons food" she grabbed Kari's top and ripped it off, and then slammed the belt down again on Kari's chest, Making the skin red and bleed, "I can keep going all night until we get this right!"

"I'll…never let that man free…. And when I tell the police about thi-" she was cut off by screaming due to the belt hitting her bare skin again. "WRONG ANSWER! And if you tell I promise you I will put your brother through hell!" but Kari's face didn't change, for the next two hours Kari's back and torso went through pain of that belt hitting her skin.

"What are you going to tell the court?" Kari whimpered a little as she tried to get up off the floor, "t…that… I g…gave the wrong…description…" the woman smirked as she kicked the girl in the ribs, "T…that Sho….is i…innocent…" the woman grinned more, "that's a good girl, now if you said that in the first place then I wouldn't have had to mark your ugly body. I swear… I don't even know why I married your father in the first place. You look so much like her…" Kari's eye's widened, "That's right… I'm not your mother. Want to know why?"

She leaned closer and licked Kari's cheek, "Because I threatened to kill you all if she didn't leave, your mother abandoned you and Tai with me, Your father belonged to me. I never thought you'd turn out to be the spitting image of her, When Sho didn't kill you after when he first raped you I was so mad! I dragged your father away to that business trip so he could get rid of you and he failed! Now I'm going to put you through so much pain! Just to try and keep that guy out of jail."

Kari didn't notice that silent tears had began to fall down her cheeks, she thought the danger was over, but it was still going, she still wasn't free. Her brother and father was in danger because she was still alive. "Then why don't you just kill me yourself?"

smirked as her hand trailed over Kari's body, "then the cops would come after me and Sho would still be going to jail, where I can torture and torment you to suicide instead" with that she silenced Kari by placing her lips on hers. Widening, Kari's night didn't end, yet she went through more abuse, until early hours in the morning.

"Better get some sleep, I'm allowing you to leave the house today, but not until you clean your wounds and make sure they are hidden from EVERYONE!" with that her mother walked out of the bedroom slipping her robe back on, where Kari was curled up on the floor, crying, looking over she saw her tampon case, reaching over, she took out her old blade, doing something she promised never to do again, placing the blade on her arm, she dragged it slowly across.

'Davis…I'm sorry I broke my promise to you… I love you…' Was all that went through her mind, she got herself cleaned up as much as she could, since her door wasn't able to be locked at the moment she did have the roam of the house. Instead of getting changed and going to sleep, she just put on a fresh pair of black baggy jeans, long sleeve black top, so blood wouldn't seep through her shirt, and the black leather jacket. She picked up Gatomon, and wrote a note to Tai, saying that she had decided to go out for a walk she didn't care that she was sneaking out of the house, but she had to find out some information about what that woman had said about her mother.

It was 10AM when Tai had woken up, and heard his mother running around the house frantic, "Mum? What's going on?" she stopped in front of his room, "Tai! Your sisters missing!" Tai quickly jumped out of his bed about to get changed when he noticed the note on his computer desk.

"It's ok mum, she just went out for a walk for some fresh air, she left me a note."

Mrs. Kamiya walked into the boy's room and took the note, she gave a sigh, knowing the girl was going to keep quite. "oh thank god, I went to wake her for breakfast and saw her and her cat was gone. I said to her last night after you went to sleep that she could go out for a bit today but I thought that she would at least let me know and at least get some breakfast."

Tai eye'd his mother, but didn't mention anything if he remembered correctly his mother was asleep before him, but she could have woken up and checked on Kari before going back to sleep, "Alright, I'm sure she will be back soon, I'll call Davis and see if she is with him."

With that she left the room.

Over at the town hall Kari had been waiting to see the documents on her family, thankfully she had a lot of savings, cause just to see the damn papers she had to pay a fee. Including show her identification, which luckly she had also been carrying.

A woman in a business suit came out, "here you go sweetie, sorry for the long delay, but we had trouble finding them, can I ask what it is you are looking for?" Kari gave a small smile to the woman knowing she was just doing her job, but she was slightly irritated due to her back an chest being in pain. "Ah my mother last night told me that I was her step daughter, an that my real mother ran out on us when I was born. I want to try and find my birth mother." The woman gave a sad smile, "I see, well I hope all the information is in the records, would you like me to help you?" she spoke, she had noticed that morning the girl had come in on crutches, and was out of breath.

Kari shook her head letting her long locks shake from side to side, "That will be ok, this is something I need to find out for myself." "Alright sweetie, since you paid the fee, these copies are yours to keep, good luck" with that she left, Kari on her own, who was quickly scanning over her birth documents, and right there in black and white wasn't her current mothers name, "Layla Star, she was only 22 when she gave birth to Tai, and then 25 when I was born. Reasons for leaving are unknown, current where about unknown. Divorced my father at 26, so Tai was 5, why didn't he even tell me about our mother leaving?" she gathered the papers thrusting them into her backpack, but gently trying not to wake the cat, she pulled out her mobile phone and dialled the first number on her call list.

After a few rings, the caller answered, "Hi Davis? Could you meet me at the Arcade where we went a few weeks ago? It's important?" she waited for a few minutes, "20 minutes ok?" with that she hung up and began making her way out of the Town hall.

20 minutes Later, Kari was sat in the local Arcade, with a black coffee in front of her, last night's lack of sleep now showing slightly, using her right hand to rub her temples, Davis was the first person she wanted to speak to about this, she couldn't go to Tai, not yet. Especially if he had been lying to her the whole time, picking up her coffee she took a few sips as the door swung open and a frantic Davis noticed her in one of the booths, "KARI!" he rushed over and straight away gave her a bone crushing hug, which made her groan slightly, "Sorry Davis… cracked ribs remember.." he blushed and rubbed the back of his head, "I'm sorry Kari, I was just so happy to see you it slipped my mind. HEY! Your wearing the jacket I bought you!"

She giggled and nodded, "Of course, I loved it when I saw it you Dufus, I was only joking about you buying it and you went and got me it" he smiled and slipped into the seat across from her, ordering himself a Tea. "So what was so urgent I had to rush down here?"

She gave a sigh and looked to him, "Davis… what if I told you… Sho's nightmare isn't over yet?" his eye's showed shock but shook his head looking to her, "What do you mean? He's behind bars, and our testimony is enough to put that bastard away!" but he saw her eye's held fear as she brought her hands back "not anymore… I can't tell you why but… I can't testify against him anymore. Trust me, when I say I'll be putting my dad and Tai's life in danger if I do… so… I'm going to drop it."

Davis mouth dropped open, "WHY! Kari… whatever it is! We can get through this ok? I understand if your scared but.." "NO! I want him away more than anyone else but I can't…. Listen to me Davis, the moment I tell the court the truth, is the moment I've killed Tai and Dad, I'd rather suffer then put them in danger."

Davis slammed his hand against the table, "Stop! Just stop doing stuff like that! Kari you always put others before you, Sho isn't going to kill anyone anymore! I-" "It's not Sho that's going to kill them… it's… his sister…" she pulled out the documents and he read them over, and looked back up. "Sho's sister….is your step mother? Kari … what did she… " she shook her head standing up "Keep the documents for now, so Tai doesn't find out, I'm sorry but this battle has just taken a turn for the worse and I'm losing. I can't get you involved anymore Davis I –" she was cut off by his warm lips on hers, she closed her eye's and kissed him back with much love and passion.

Until they had to break away, "I'm Sorry Davis isn't going to cut it Kari, We are in this together, she's done something to you and I know it! Hell your voice sounds like your vocal cords have been through a blender!. I will help you through this I promise, now tell me everything!" She shook her head, "i… I can't… Davis just please leave it…." He grabbed her wrist before she could Crutch out of there, when he felt a liquid, pulling the girl he loves back and pushed up her sleeve.

"You can't be doing this again Kari, I can help you! I can offer you a place to stay! T.K Will even let you stay at his! Or Yolie! Hell Cody's family is full of police enforcement! I don't want to lose you, I love you Kari I always have and I always will." She dropped her head, her heart filled with love, "I love you too Davis… that's why… I have to end it, before you get hurt. It's over, don't come see me anymore." Straight there, she felt both their hearts shatter, she truly did love him, but she couldn't stand seeing him being hurt. Before he could react she was gone.

Davis was left alone…..shattered…. now not knowing how to save his angel….
