Valerie looked at the man beside her and grinned. "I had wondered if it would be you or Josh who showed up with Brenda tonight, Charles."
Charles chuckled as he wrapped an arm around Valerie's shoulders. Josh's last day at work was today and he was going to finish packing everything so that he could get it shipped out here for all of us, Val. I'm honestly surprised nobody has picked up on the fact that you weren't really all that surprised when Brenda showed up here."
Valerie chuckled. "They were all too busy looking at Brenda in shock and surprise to notice the look on my face. I'm just glad that you guys will be here for my wedding in three weeks because it would be kind of hard to get married without my maid of honor here. Dylan hasn't even asked me who he would be walking down the aisle with yet even though he is Noah's best mad."
Charles smirked. "It will be great practice for Dylan and Brenda to walk down the aisle together at your wedding, Valerie. If any two people were made for one another it is her and him. I always knew that something or someone was missing in her life and now I can see that it was Dylan that was missing all along. She has a picture of him on her bedside table and she would always tell Mindy about him. I lost count how many times Mindy wished that Dylan was her father."
He took in a deep breath and let it out. "The last time that Dustin put Brenda in ICU, I about broke my promise to her and called him because I knew if anyone could make sure that she kept on living it would be him. Just like I know now that he will do whatever he has to in order to make sure that she keeps on living now that Dustin has found her once again. I have a phone call I need to make but I'm not sure if I should make it or ask Brandon or Dylan to make it."
Brandon overheard the last couple of sentences that Charles said. He looked at Charles with narrowed eyes. "Who do you want Dylan or I to call, Charles?"
Charles looked Brandon straight in the eyes. "I met someone a year ago who knows Brenda pretty damn well but he knew that Brenda would never call him if she ever needed something so when she went to the bathroom he gave me his number and told me to call if she ever needed something."
Brandon sighed. "Who is it?"
Charles rubbed a hand down his face. "His name is Jack McKay and he loves Brenda like a daughter. I gave him my cell number and he's called me several times in the last twelve months just to see how Brenda is doing."
Brandon's mouth dropped open in shock and then he held his hand out. "Give me your phone and I'll call him for you. As much as I hate to admit it if anyone can make sure that Brenda is safe and protected it will be Jack McKay."
Charles nodded and handed his cell phone to Brandon. "Take Dylan with you, Brandon. I will keep an eye on Brenda."
Brandon nodded sharply and looked at Dylan who stopped beside him after leaving Brenda with Kelly, Donna, David, Steve, and Andrea. "Dylan, we need to head outside for a few minutes so Charles is going to watch Brenda for us. Besides the man deserves to have at least one or two dances with her since he was nice enough to bring her back to you after so many years."
Dylan frowned but nodded. "Come and get me if she needs me, Charles."
Charles smiled at Dylan. "I promise that I will."
Dylan smiled slightly at that and then after he walked over and gave Brenda a kiss he followed Brandon outside to the patio. He made sure that he was standing so he could see inside and see Brenda. "What is going on, Brandon?"
Brandon held a hand up and looked through Charles' contacts and once he saw Jack's name he clicked on it to dial. Once he heard it ring he put it on speaker phone as he waited on the call to be answered. When it was, he let out a sigh of relief even as Jack spoke up and said "Is everything alright, Charles?"
Brandon chuckled slightly. "This isn't Charles, Jack. I'm not sure if you remember me or not but my name is Brandon."
Jack chuckled. "Of course, I remember you, Brandon. It would be kind of hard not to since when I talk to Dylan he talks about you. How is your wedding planning coming along, son?"
Brandon smiled a true smile. "It's coming along great, Jack. Listen as much as I would love to catch up I don't have much time before Brenda comes looking for Dylan and I."
Jack gasped. "Is Brenda alright, Brandon? It's been a couple of weeks since I've talked to her but I talked to Josh and Mindy earlier tonight. I was going to call Brenda tomorrow to let her know that I bought the house next to the one she grew up in for her, Mindy, Charles, and Josh. I have had people going in and out of it the last couple of days making sure that everything is perfect inside so that Mindy doesn't end up getting hurt."
Brandon ran a hand through his hair. "You may want to come here, Jack, because earlier tonight Brenda's ex-husband showed up at our ten-year class reunion. I may not know much about what happened to Brenda because of him but I could see and tell that she was and is scared to death of him. Something needs to be done about him and done about him soon because Brenda can't keep living in fear."
Jack swore. "Christine and I will be on the first flight out, Brandon. There should be two of Christine's men around the hotel because I had picked up some information that Dustin had found Brenda somehow and I wanted to make sure that she was safe. I'll have Christine call them and tell them to make themselves known to you all so that they can be close by in case Dustin decides to come back. I can tell you that up until six years ago Dustin was not a bad guy but then he fell into hard drugs and got violent. I can also tell you that he has put Brenda in ICU three different times and in a regular hospital room another five times. That isn't counting all the times that she went to the Emergency Room for other injuries."
Dylan cleared his throat. "Dad, how do you know all this? Why didn't you tell me that you have been in contact with Brenda?"
Jack sighed. "I know all this because after I saw Brenda a year ago I could tell that something was wrong so I looked into her past. I wanted to make sure that she was safe because if she hadn't been I would have extracted her from whatever the problem was. I didn't tell you, Dylan, because you never asked. I told Brenda when I first saw her that I wouldn't come right out and tell you that I've seen her but if you asked that I wasn't going to lie to you and she understood. You are my son, Dylan, and I love you, but you had best get your fucking head out of your ass and make that girl my daughter finally. Do you know how close Jim, Cindy, and I have come close to making it where we could lock you in a room or something just to get you two back together? I'll set some men on finding Dustin so until then stay with Brenda and don't let her out of your sight. We'll be with you guys first thing in the morning. Oh, and Dylan, if I were you I would think of starting to pack your things because if I have my way about it you will be living with Brenda, Mindy, Josh, and Charles. I'll see you guys for breakfast."
Dylan groaned as he looked at Brandon who ended the call. "My dad is going to make my life hell until I marry your sister."
Brandon laughed. "I don't think it will be just your dad, Dylan. Now, we've been out here long enough so we should probably get back inside to our women. Don't let Brenda know that we talked to Jack."
Dylan shook his head. "I won't but when she sees him tomorrow she'll realize that we talked to him."
Brandon shrugged his shoulders. "By then it will be too late for her to call him and tell him not to come."
Dylan snickered. "That is true. Just so you know I do plan on marrying your sister sometime in the future. I'm not letting her go ever again."
Brandon grinned. "Good! It's about damn time."
Dylan rolled his eyes. "You're just as bad as my father, Brandon."
Brandon smirked as he walked beside Dylan and back into the hotel. "I'm allowed to be."
Dylan shook his head but grinned at Brandon before he headed to Brenda's side where she stood talking to Valerie and Charles. "I'm back, baby."
Brenda laughed. "I see that. Did you have a nice chat with, Jack?"
Dylan's eyes widened in shock. "How'd you know?"
Brenda smiled. "I spotted one of the two men Christine put on me. I guess I'll be seeing Jack tomorrow then?"
Dylan wrapped his arms around Brenda's waist and pulled her back into him. "He'll be joining us for breakfast."
Brenda nodded. "Good. Now, I want to dance again."
Dylan huffed but let Brenda back out onto the dance floor. He wasn't going to complain because it meat he got to hold her in his arms and be as close to her as he could. He loved having her in his arms again and there was no way in hell he was ever going to let her go again. He would love her daughter as his own and hopefully they could have one or two more kids because he would love to see Brenda's stomach rounded by carrying his baby. He kissed her on the head and swayed to the music. He never really liked dancing but he loved dancing with Brenda.
