It was later that day, Erin woke up slightly confused. Usually she has more than one nightmare every night. She felt jay stir in his sleep and his arms tighten more around her. She sat there and felt guilty about liking his arms around her. This wasn't fair to Kelly. Jay was a friend; she should not be having these thoughts about him. But damn did he smell good and it felt so right. She began to wonder what time it was, it wasn't completely dark, but soon enough it looked like it would be.
She jumped when she heard both of their phones ringing. Jay also jumped and realized Erin was still in his arm. He couldn't help see how beautiful she was. Then he snapped out of it when he heard her talking to him, "Jay... Jay! Hey, our phones are ringing."
He giggled feeling his face flush. He rolled out of bed and grabbed his phone and tossed Erin hers. They missed the call but both had texts from Voight, Meet at the station, now. They both looked at each other knowing something must be happening.
They both walked into the precinct and saw the team all by the board with Voight talking. They were hoping he wouldn't notice them sneaking in, but who were they kidding, it's Voight.
"Ahhh, nice of you two to finally join us." Voight said not too happy shooting Jay a glare.
Jay ignored the looks of Ruzek mocking him. "Uhm, what's going on Voight?" Jay asked curious seeing Charlie's, James's, and Erin's pictures on the board.
Erin noticed what Jay was looking at and looked at Voight who began talking, "We got the case. It's ours. On one condition, Erin can't be on it." Voight said looking towards Erin, who was clearly upset.
"What? No, I deserve to be on this case. I can do it." Erin said walking up to him.
"I know, that's why we will keep you off the books and keep it in house. Does everyone understand that?" He replied looking at the team as they all nodded their heads. "Good. Listen, we were told the license plate that was seen dropping the body off the other night was spotted at an old factory a few miles out of town. So let's move out."
The car ride was quiet, but Erin could feel Jay's eyes watching her every few minutes wanting to say something.
She sighed, "Alright Halstead spit it out. What is bothering you?" She glanced over at him.
"Erin I'm not sure if you should do this, what if he's there and gets into your mind? What if he has more…?" Jay trailed off not sure if he should say anything.
"More what, Jay?" He was beginning to feel the irritation in her voice.
He let out a harsh breath, "More… More pictures." He looked over at her to see her expression. Oddly he couldn't tell what she was thinking. She looked emotionless. "I didn't mean to upset you or whatever…"
She shook her head, "Then, he does. But I have my team there and I have you there. So I will be fine." She saw the factory up ahead, "We are here." She said changing the subject.
The squad met up all geared up. "Okay, Dawson, Halstead, and Lindsay you check the 3rd story. Olinsky, Ruzek and I will take the 2nd story. And you officers take the 1st floor." The team nodded their heads and began moving towards the factory.
Dawson led them with Lindsay following and Halstead in the back. They walked through a long hallway with 7 doors. They all took two rooms each, with the word "Clear" following each time. Erin was making her way toward the door at the end of the hall while the boys still searched their rooms they went into. It was locked when she tried opening it, she kicked the door in. Jay heard a door being kicked open and ran out of the room and yelled towards her to wait.
Erin heard Jay tell her to wait but she was already in the room she heard movement towards the left of her, she tried to react quickly but she felt a body rush her and pin her into the wall to her right. She heard footsteps running towards the room, Jay and Antonio. She took a few hits to the side and face before she was able to elbow her attacker in the nose and shoved him away from her. Dawson and Halstead ran into the room and pointed their guns at the man telling him to turn toward them slowly.
Jay glanced towards Erin leaning against the wall, "Erin are you okay?"
She nodded her head; she wanted to see who attacked her. Antonio yelled at the man to turn around again. Finally the man turned around, she broke his nose for sure. Jay walked up to him and shoved him towards the wall hard and handcuffed him.
Kim put him in the back of her police car and Jay walked over to Erin who was leaning against her car holding a gauze pad to her bloody nose. "Hey, are you okay?" She heard him ask as he leaned next to her.
"Yeah, that man. He was there…" She gulped, "Where I was held." Erin looked up to Jay to see the anger in his face.
"Did he..?" Jay asked, putting a hand on her shoulder looking at her.
She out her hand up and shook her head, "No, He would come and go. I think his name is Aaron. He came in the room a few times. But I was out of it. And I wasn't sure if I was just seeing someone or if he was really there. Well now I know… I think he's the one who took the pictures Jay." She tried not to tear up and shake as she told Jay all of this.
Jay looked to her with a caring look in his eyes, "We will find out Erin." Jay pulled her into a hug and walked her to the passenger side of the car. She didn't object. Or speak at all for that matter. The car ride was quiet. But Jay didn't want to bother her. He just knew it was time to get everything Aaron knew about James's location.
Jay watched as Erin walked into the building, ignoring all the looks she was getting from everybody, and sat at her desk and started to work on reports.
Jay looked over to Voight who nodded, Voight started to walk away and Jay followed. It was time for the cage.
After an hour of beatings from Voight, all Aaron gave them was that James was in town. And that was all her was going to tell them.
The time was 10 at night and Jay was at his desk occasionally glancing over to see Erin. She was ignoring Kelly's calls all night. So he was sure what she was going to do for the night. Jay decided to find out.
He walked over to her desk and sat at the end of it, "Hey." He smiled, "Since we came here in one car, uhm are you going to be taking me to get my car at your building?" She looked at him like she was surprised.
"Oh... I'm so sorry! Have you been waiting here all night because of that? I completely forgot. We will go right now." She grabbed her thing s and smiled at him jerking her head towards the exit.
They pulled up next to the spot near his car. He looked at her and she looked back at him. They both started to speak at the same time, they stopped and laughed. "You go first." She said smiling.
"Did you want me to walk you up to your apartment and check to make sure everything is okay?" He asked.
Her face blushed and he didn't know why, "I was actually going to ask if you'd stay the night." She let out a nervous laugh, why was she feeling like she was in high school on a first date? "Kelly isn't coming tonight and I don't want to be alone. I figured we can just have another sleepover…"- Jay stopped her from her nervous ramble.
"Of course Erin, you never have to feel like it's a burden to me," He started to open the door. "Come on."
Erin was starting to regret parking so far, it was so cold that night. Jay noticed her shivering, so he took his coat off and gave it to her.
After they ate dinner and Erin showered and let Jay shower after her they went to lay in bed. They were both awake lying down in silence. Erin didn't want to fall asleep; she didn't want Jay to see her having another nightmare like she did last night. Jay finally broke the silence.
"Erin if you're afraid of having a nightmare again…" He felt awkward to continue what he wanted to say, but knew he had to, "I'll hold you again. You seemed to be fine after that; I'm not trying to sound like a horny teenager." They both chuckled and she rolled over to look at him.
She just nodded and he moved closer to her and wrapped his arms around her. Finally her felt her fall asleep as his eyes began to get heavy. He too fell asleep.
