Chapter Eleven

They sat around the table, empty starter plates in front of them. The room was silent which was more bearable than when Marko thought it was wonderful conversation to listen to Stefan tell everyone, mostly Kat, about himself.

Apparently, he happened to own the second largest potion ingredient export company, and was also second best in his year at Durmstrung. Although Sirius did enjoy pointing out that "being second best made him the first loser" which earned him a swift kick from Remus and a disgruntled look from Marko, he quickly then went on to ask Bill how work was which then gave Marko the perfect chance to pick into Bill's chosen career.

"...dangerous work..."

"...not a suitable career for someone for my daughter..."

"...selfish and reckless...flying off around the world in search of dangers..."

He continued on like this until Remus couldn't take anymore and took Kat into the kitchen to help with the main course, if the dinner continued this way with this back and forth game then it would be midnight before dessert.

They returned to the dining room, slowly, hearing raised voices from the corridor.

"Sir, I mean no disrespect, but you cannot just sell your daughter to someone you think is appropriate"

"...It is none of your business William, I am not selling her, I am doing what I believe is best."

"Best! Have you even spoken to her...?"

"The boy is right Marko; you have no idea what is best for her." Sirius bellowed, "You turn up after all these years and suddenly know what is best, you do not even know her. I've taken care of her, I've been here for her, the whole Order has and your idea of what you think is best for her couldn't be further from the truth."

"I never approved of her living here; I know how well you've taken care of my daughter you piece of filth, in more ways than I care to admit. You are repulsive Black, and I will..."

Remus cleared his throat, "Gentleman, please do sit down the main course is here...and Kat has gone to so much trouble."

She waved her wand and the plates sat in their place. Stefan rushed round to pull out her chair; she mumbled thanks and sat down. "I hope you like your meat rare, it's the only way I seem to cook it these days," She smiled at Remus across the table before tucking into a delicious Roast Beef.

"So Stefan," Kat began, "How long have you been in England?"

"I came to visit your father just two days ago...I was hoping to meet you sooner, but business is booming and I could not get away sooner, I apologise."

She wasn't sure what else she could say to him, it only seemed like yesterday she was kissing Bill. She looked at the man sat across from her and he seemed fine enough but he didn't make her blood boil or create butterflies in her stomach with just one look. His dark hair was short and tamed, he was tall and slender and overall a very standard business man. She could already tell that he would excite her or encourage her or do anything unless it benefitted him.

Katarina then realised he was speaking to her and she had no idea what it was that he said. "I think that is a great idea Stefan, I am sure Katarina would love to show you London."

"Oh yes of course, I can do that – take you through muggle London that is."

"Muggle London? I'd much rather see Wizarding London..."

"Really, but Muggle part of London has so much to see – there are galleries, and landmarks and this amazing thing called the London Eye that takes..." She stopped short, she could tell her father didn't approve and that Stefan looked almost bored. "Or I can take you to Diagon Alley..."

"Oh that sounds absolutely perfect." He said gleaming at the whole table.

"Shall we go into the lounge for dessert?" Remus said, seeing his Katarina's spark fading. "Kat take our guests into the lounge, Sirius and I can bring in the dessert..."

Her father took the lounge chair; she knew this would annoy Sirius. Stefan, naturally to match her father, took the one opposite. She was rather pleased by this arrangement as it meant she was free to sit next to Bill, and that is what she did. "So Kat, maybe as Stef here doesn't want to see Muggle London, maybe you and I could go instead – we can go that lovely café you've told me about."

"That would be lo..."

Her father interrupted, "I don't think so William; you will not be going anywhere with my daughter. Not now, not ever."

"Excuse me Sir, but I believe that decision is your daughters...she has a mind of her own."

"And look where that has got her...she stays in a house with a convict and a werewolf; she has chosen you – look at you, do you honestly believe you deserve my daughter – you tainted, scarred, reckless..."

"No!" Bill stood up, anger pouring through him. "No Sir," he tried to calm himself, "I do not deserve your daughter, she could choose someone more handsome, richer, smarter, and more but I believe that is her choice, and if she decides that I am what she needs, well then I sure as hell will do the best I can to make her happy." He turned to look at her "I love her...I love you Kat."
