Chapter 11: Teamwork
I am breaking a streak of not updating! THERE WILL BE MORE CHAPTERS! This story will be kept going until it is finished! And I'm back. And tired, I'm writing quite late, after a few games on the PS3. Good news? I am gonna extend my chapters if possible! I'm gonna go for goals of at the least, 2,000 words per chapter. Anyways... I'm releasing more often.
Reviews!
Guest: Wait, series? Oh... I haven't gotten to the end of the story yet... But I do know how to end it. And guys? A little idea? The sequel story is going to be in Kalos.
Hunter the Weavile: Alright, so I'm guessing you like... Ack, this is tricky... -Scratches head- You like Weaviles?
Iceman99: "Glad to see me back?" You might have to repeat that again... And as for the question, it cannot be a Legendary or large Pokemon. Medium size is fine, a size of a Charizard or bigger or similar size is not. And I despise school... No more. :D I enjoy english, that class fuels my need to write. That, and I like Pokemon. School is quite a hinderance sometimes, but not always.
ChrystalDragon: I'm glad you like it, and from the above, it WILL continue! You'd be an Espeon, I hear? Alright, then. Like I said, Legendaries and large Pokemon aren't picks. But either is pretty awesome.
Galladelucarioman: Straight to the point, huh? Those reviews are what I dislike alot, but I'm not fussy. You'd be a Gallade, I hear? "So, I heard u do not liek Mudkipz" then?
Mowrotom314: That name, you're mowing a rotor! Anyways, I'm happy that people think this story is great, but I do think I can do much better... And that "tomorrow" was a busy day for me...
Alright, I'm really happy people still read this! Maybe... Also, I'm not too sure on specific encounters, so I'm making up encounters. There won't be as much Canon, probably.

I jumped at the sudden comment behind me, almost losing my grip on the slippery roof, but managing to keep my footing, Wait, or is it pawing? I'm not too sure... on the roof.
I turned around to see Sam, standing behind me.
"You aren't Shadow?" He asked. "Err... How much did you hear?" I replied hesitantly.
"Enough to know you're not Shadow..." Sam replied, a bit serious. "Who are you, then?"
"I'm... I'm Liam, Shadow's trainer..." I replied. Grotle had looks of disbelief, then started to chuckle.
That was a longshot...
"He's telling the truth, Sam!" Volt suddenly said beside me. I looked up at him. Sam stopped laughing, and looked at him. "This is really Liam. He told me everything he's been through so far, and it was quite a bit! And Liam?" I looked back at Volt.
"You know how you ran into the streets of that city, right?" He asked. I nodded in reply. "Well, any other Pokemon would've ran into the forest… And when you ran into Tom, you didn't run away. Any other Pokemon would've run from any human, right?" Volt explained.
I was shocked. He was absolutely correct; if I was just some normal Pokemon, wouldn't I run in the direction away from civilization? I looked at Sam, who was in turn, looking at me with a shocked look.
"But… If you're… If you're Liam… Where's Shadow, then?" Sam asked me. I hesitated in replying, but decided to.
"I've had a dream last night… I was at the home town where Tom first got you, Sam. I got into my room, then my mom came into the room, and was shocked to see me. I then woke up from that dream, to hear Tom talking to our mom. (I appreciate better senses, here.) She said that Shadow was in the house. After the conversation ended, Tom was mulling over the fact that Shadow was me and right here, AND at the house, but fell asleep to it. Though I'm pretty sure you heard the second half of my thoughts…" I explained.
"Was that why you looked a bit deep in thought?" Sam asked. I nodded in response.
"Sam? Volt? Shadow? Where are you guys?" A voice called out.
"We'd better get inside, guys." Volt suggested. Both Sam and I nodded, and we all walked inside.
"You guys were already awake?" Tom asked. We all nodded.
"Well, glad to see you're all up. We're gonna get going soon, ok guys?" He asked again. We all nodded and Tom recalled Volt and Sam, but went deep into thoughts, occasionally peeking at me.
Time Lapse: 10 LONG minutes
As we exited the Pokemon mansion, I saw Richard waving goodbye.
"Good luck out there!" He said. Maylene looked at Richard.
"Thank you for letting us stay for the night, Mr. Lumiose." She thanked.
"It was no hassle. Anything to help." He replied.
"Mr. Lumiose? You have a good day!" Tom said, as we walked away from the mansion.
I've got away, finally… But why did I cross through the Beedrill nest? I looked over to see a stinger in my arm, seeping with poison. I collapsed, feeling poison spread all over my body. All I saw was piles of snow, the snow falling gently, a frozen lake and some greenery before everything went dark...
As we walked down the road, it started lightly snowing. I was glad that it was not harsh, like yesterday.
However, it was also quite cold... I had to shiver at the temperature.
There is a good perk about being an Umbreon, and it's not just the attacks or better defense... The… Err… "My", coat of fur. It does keep myself warm…
But today, it just didn't help much. Probably because of the blizzard last night.
"Y-you're cold, too?" Volt said, walking beside me, also shivering.
"Yeah… Probably colder due t-to the blizzard from last night… And p-probably because we were not outside before for too long." I explained. He nodded in response. "True, it does get c-colder after snowing, after all."
"Hey! Hey, mister!" Volt and I looked at two young boys stopping Maylene and Tom. We followed suit. The other Pokemon weren't out of their Pokeballs. Why couldn't I be- Oh, right… No Pokeball…
"Hey, can we battle you?" One of the kids asked.
Tom didn't even hesitate as he spoke. "Why wouldn't I?" He then looked at us. "Volt and Shadow…"
He bent down closer to our level. "Do you guys want to battle? I saw you shivering there, and this would warm you guys up."
Volt and I looked at each other. "First battle together… You wanna?" I asked. He had a grin on his face, then we both nodded at Tom.
"Right! So, at this area, where it's clear?" Tom asked the two boys. Both nodded, and threw the Pokeballs, which emitted light. Still too bright...
The red light dissipated to reveal a Kirlia and a Staravia. Volt and I instantly got defensive. It did help certainly, as the Kirlia pulled off some leaves from a bush covered from the snow by a grove of trees, and the leaves changed to a bit of a lighter green, then those leaves shot towards me. I instinctively jumped out of the way as the leaves passed me, but as I started sprinted towards the Staravia, I was smacked from behind, and stumbled over. I quickly scrambled up to my feet as the Kirlia started repeating the same process again. I then again sprinted towards the Psychic-Type, and headbutt it, knocking the Kirlia back. She got up, and then- I was thrown back by an invisible force, my head pounded and everything started spinning. Suddenly, the pain subsided, and Volt ran up to me as I recovered, although my head was slightly pounding.
"Watch out!" He yelled, pushing me aside as the Staravia swooped down and picked him up. He screamed as he was carried up. I jumped to my feet and instantly started charging a Shadow Ball. As it reached the biggest I could get it, I shot the blob at the Flying-Type.
"Shadow!" Tom yelled at me. I looked at him, and he was pointing somewhere. I quickly looked to where he pointed, and- Oh, Arceus! I managed to get the magical barrier up before the Kirlia could throw me a boulder roughly my size. I looked up as-
What?! Tauro's Crap! It went through him!
I then realized something.
Type effectiveness, Liam... Type effectiveness...
I noticed the Staravia then drop Volt. He started falling towards the ground at a fast pace. I knew Pokemon were able to withstand hard hits on themselves, but this looked like it'd hurt... I concentrated on him, and he started slowing down.
I suddenly got picked up by an invisible force, and thrown against the tree. I lost concentration, and Volt hit the ground. Not too hard, just hard enough to hurt. I saw the Kirlia concentrating and looking towards me, but she had a gleam in the corner of her eye. I still felt the force of Kirlia's power hold me in place, against the tree, as the Staravia sped towards me at an alarmingly fast speed.
"Volt, help Shadow!" Tom quickly commanded. I heard some static near me, and as the Staravia came up to my short muzzle, it was knocked aside by a lightning strike not coming from the sky, but Volt. He quickly ran over and headbutt the Psychic-Type, and I fell to the ground, which was a bit far, considering that the Kirlia smacked me into a large tree.
I collapsed to the ground, feeling like I've been crushed by double the debris in Maylene's used-to-be Gym. I tried getting myself up, when Volt ran up to me and helped me up. Tom looked at amazement when I managed to stay up after taking a beating from the two. I also noticed that when I got up, something was dripping from my nose. Blood. I wasn't going to collapse from just a little blood.
"Liam?" Volt asked. I looked at him, and he continued.
"I got the Staravia. I just need you to handle the Kirlia, alright?" I nodded, and walked towards the Kirlia.
"What are you doing, Shadow...?" He slowly asked, confused at my antics. I knew the Kirlia was planning something, when I remembered the time she pinned me to the tree.
The gleam... Oh, love of Mew!
My ears perked up as a sound got louder. I quickly and awkwardly rolled out of the way, and looked behind me to see a load of rocks bundled into a ball close to me. I focused, and the ball started raising. I didn't notice it was flying still a bit low, and I got smacked by a couple of the larger rocks in the small pile flying. I collapsed from being hit by a large rock. However, I heard a panicked sound and a smash.
"No!" Both Tom and Maylene, and one of the twins yelled out. I also heard a loud electrocution, then a body collapse to the ground. I struggled to get up as Maylene and Tom ran up to me.
"We're here, Shadow... Just hold still..." Maylene assured. I couldn't think, my head throbbed from the rocks. I let out a small whimper when I felt a sharp pain, like accidentally cutting your hand open a bit deep with a knife.
"I'm sorry it hurts, but we should pull the leaves out first, you're covered in these..." Maylene told me. Every time a leaf was pulled out, I'd wince at the feeling.
Finally, it was over...
"Alright, Shadow? Just a little bit more..." Tom calmly said.
Oh...
I heard a spray, and felt stinging. After the spraying stopped, I had to sigh in relief.
"Liam!" A voice called out. I saw Volt running up to me, although I saw him sideways, as I was laying down…
"Are... Are you ok?" Volt asked. I tried getting up, but collapsed when I put weight on one of my paws. Volt went up to me, and helped me up. Although he wouldn't let go of me.
"It's hard to walk without one of the paws, huh, Liam?" He asked. I nodded in response to the question. Well, my paw is in alot of pain… The one that was seemingly better felt broken. Again…
I saw the two boys run up to Tom and Maylene. Tom had a smile on his face, but it wasn't a mean or sly smile. He isn't like that. He bent down to their level.
"Hey, you guys did great!" Tom commented.
"But we lost… What do you mean?" One of the boys asked.
Before Tom could speak, Maylene interrupted. "Err, Tom… Mind if I bump in and answer?" She asked. Tom nodded, and like him, Maylene bent to the boys' height.
"Well, it doesn't matter about winning or losing. What matters, is when you and your Pokemon do their best, and from what I've saw… You both had great spirit, your Pokemon were amazing in the battle, and from what I see, you both had a strategy…" She explained.
Both boys nodded. "Yep, it's a little trick. We'd beat one Pokemon before going to the next one. Also… is your Pokemon ok?" One of the boys explained, which turned to a question. He gave a worried glance at me.
"I've taken care of his wounds, but poor Shadow did take a bit of a beating from both of your Pokemon… But hopefully, it's not a problem..." Tom said.
Wait, "Poor" Shadow?
I gave a ticked-off glance at Tom, and he definitely noticed this.
"Alright, sorry! I know you're beside me and that you heard that, but it's a bit true." He apologized.
"Mister, we should probably go to the Pokemon Center… But thanks for the battle!" One kid said, and ran along the path. The other boy followed hastily. "Shadow, are you alright to walk?" Tom asked. I tried taking a few steps, but they were a bit shaky and I stumbled on my broken paw. But I did stay up, though.
"I'll help you, Liam." Volt said, and he basically held my side. It didn't seem like much, but we took a couple of steps, and it certainly did help, as I stumbled, Volt held me up.
"Well, that, I did not think of. Thanks, Volt! You know, I've never seen a group of Pokemon like you guys…" Tom said.
We both smiled at this, and we all started walking down the path.
*To be Continued*
