"Move swift as the Wind and closely-formed as the Wood. Attack like the Fire and be still as the Mountain."
― Sun Tzu, The Art of War
Blossom
"Fine. Deal."
She chuckled, flashing sharp, fang like teeth. "Catch me if you can Witch."
She leaped out the window. Everyone gasped. That had to be five story drop. At the last moment her wings spread out and she flew back up to the window.
"Watcha waiting for Red?"
I clenched my fist. My first instinct was to try and freeze her. Shots of ice flew out of my hands as I tried to hit her. Like I said, she was faster than me and I was completely missing her.
"Is that the best you got? Throwing a few ice cubes at me? C'mon I know you can do better than that!"
"Shutup!"
On my hand a light pink spot appeared. I stuck my arm in and pulled out this long staff made of ice. I stared shocked at my hand. I had never been able to do this before so why now?
"Ooo that's a new trick! Do your best– wait no! Your worst! Do your worst Witch!"
Suddenly I started feeling courageous. Before I knew it, I lauched out the window and aimed my staff at Buttercup. I mumbled a spell I often used and a blast of ice shot out and hit her in the left wing. It left a gaping hole in the center. She instantly fell into the pavement leaving a deep crater full of rubble. The staff shattered instantly and next thing I know I felt myself falling. Screaming, I manged to turn onto my back and shielded myself for the incoming impact. But it never came. I looked up to see a pair of familiar red eyes.
"Brick! What are you doing here?!"
"Oh nothing, just saving your life." His signature smirk appeared on his face.
I blushed then remembered my sister. "You have to get out of here, she'll kill–"
Black spikes of demonic energy rained around us. Thinking quick I made an ice barrier to protect us.
Buttercup looked furious as she climbed out of the hole. Her eyes glowed a dangerous yellow color. The hole in her wing was just finishing regenerating. She flew back over my head looking murderous.
"That was daring of you Red. Is this because of your new boyfriend?" Black energy was forming in her hand again. "Oh how fucking aborable!"
I tried to pull out that staff again but all I got was a few snowflakes. Oh man. I guess that last trick completely drained me of mana. I scrambled out of Brick's arms and grabbed his hand. "Quickly! We have to run!"
"You're suppose to be chasing me! You can't run from me bitch!"
A loud blast next to us blew up the ground and made us stumble.
"Stop this! You're going to destroy everything!"
"Should've thought about that before you hit me! I'm gonna kill you!"
We start runninng, trying to dodge her attacks.
"So just what the hell's going? What happened to your magic ?" Brick asks. I can already tell he's out of breath but doesn't say anything for my sake.
"My sister– I made a deal with her then she started going berserk after I hit her." I took a second to look behind us before continuing. "Now she wants to kill me and since your with me, you too. And I ran out of mana, energy that let's me use ice magic, so I can't exactly face her."
"Wait what?! That's the other one? Man, your family is screwed up."
I sighed. "Yep, everyone always says that."
He frowned. "I didn't mean it that way– Ugh!"
Out of no where, one of Buttercup's energy spikes struck Brick in the leg causing him to fall. It formed a large wound spilling blood all over.
"Oh no, I'm so sorry Brick!" I began to panic. This was all my fault. I wasn't strong enough to protect him. Why did I let him get involved. What if I couldn't save him.
"Oops! Did I do that? That's what you get for being a little whore Blossy!"
"Shutup!" My anger flowed through me. How dare she? Brick shouldn't have been involved to begin with. I attempted to aim shards of ice at her again desperate to hit her. My mana just wouldn't replenish fast enough. Damn it! I wasn't about to let her kill Brick. Not now especially since I was just starting to fall for him. Wait- Did I really just say that?!
"Let's hurry up and end this shall we? I'm starving! I wouldn't mind having a bite of your friend."
Before I could aim again, a pain shot through my chest and I realized she hit me. I crumbled onto the pavement, my head slamming down hard. Through my blurry vision I saw Brick move in front of me .
"B-Brick….. d-don't…just run now."
"I'm not gonna let this bitch hurt you!"
"You're still bleeding!" His white dress shirt turned complete
"Aww how cute! He's willing to die for you. I'll try to make it fast!"
Buttercup landed a few feet away. I saw her claws extended even further. Was she dI thought she was?
"Today I'm feeling generous boy! I won't tear out your heart since my darling big sis seems to adore you. Congrats on being the first! I think I'll rip out your spine instead. I would prefer to rip out a wing but you don't have any so this will just have to do!"
I tried to lift myself up, but I felt so weak. I could pass out at any moment. "Please Buttercup… I'm sorry."
"Oh sister, if only you knew the real truth…" She grabbed Brick's cheek roughly and dug her nails in. Streaks of blood ran down his face like tears. "Say your goodbyes!"
A blast of fire shot out from Brick. It felt warm and was almost comforting. It was so bright I had to shield my eyes. It nailed Buttercup perfectly as it burned her.
"ARGH! STOP!" She fell onto her knees and clutched at her hair. Slowly she began to turn to ash. The ash sinking into the ground as if it was never there was the last thing I saw before I faded into darkness.
Brick
When I first woke up I noticed three first thing was the throbbing sensation in my leg was gone and it was completely healed. The second was I was laying in a hospital bed. Finally, Blossom's sleeping face next to me.
Slowly, I lifted my self upright. I felt a bit sore but was overall fine. Blossom looked better too which was a plus. That fire though, that power surge… Where did it come from? Will I be able to do it again?
The infirmary door open and two figures walked in.
"Boomer?"
"Hey, man how you feeling? You remember Blossom's sister Bubbles right?"
The little blonde from the library stepped out from behind him. She looked uncomfortable and awkward as she stared at her sleeping sister.
"Err– yeah hi."
"Hello again." She moved over to Blossom's bedside to lay a hand on her head.
"Bubbles is the one who healed you both–" Boomer began to mention when he was interupted by a cry from Blossom.
"Ow! What was that for?" She cried. There was a large red spot on her forehead where Bubbles touched her.
"You left me waiting at the library for over an hour! Then Boomer runs in and begs me for help so, using my own energy, I saved the both of you. You do know how troublesome that is!"
"You didn't have to burn me like that!"
Wait, did that mean she could use fire too?
"You're a fire user?"
Bubbles turned sharply to look at me. Her eyes widened as if she noticed me for the first time.
She smoothed down her skirt, "No… I'm an seraphim. We call it God's Fire. It's true form is light but I can increase the intensity to fire. I'm sorry, I can't help you with your problem."
"What problem?" Boomer asked looking alarmed.
I sighed heavily before explaining. I told him about how I could barely light a candle before and how now suddenly I had more power than I knew what to do with.
"That's seriously your problem? At least you have powers! I'm just a stupid human… Plus we don't know what happened to Butch and Mitch still."
"Fuck I keep forgetting. We gotta find them soon."
Blossom began to stand up slowly and sat down on my bed instead.
"Why didn't you tell me before your brother was missing?"
"I got so caught up in everything else. For awhile I forgot about Boomer too. Where have you been man?"
"With Estrella…"
Blossom's eyes widened. "Oh no…"
"What is it?" Bubbles asked.
"If your bother's not with us in Sol and he's not with Estrella either then that only leaves one possibility."
"Luna." Everyone said at once. For awhile there was a silence pause. Blossom looked horrified, Boomer looked sick, Bubbles looked pretty neutral, and I could only imagine what I looked like.
"So he's basically dead?" Boomer asked. He had just gotten up and began pacing back and forth. He always did that when he was nervous.
"Not exactly," Blossome replied. "Our father asked us to watch over you guys. Buttercup would have know better than to go and get him killled."
"In that case, what do you think they're doing over there?"
"Luna always has some dirty tricks up their sleeves. Speaking of the other one, I need this Witch here to prepare a containment circle for when the demon comes back."
Blossom nodded silently before standing up. "Yeah, you're right. She's gonna be even nastier this time around if we don't do something?"
"We?" Bubbles snorted. "There is no we. Don't think this changes anything just becuase I saved your life once. This is all for the Winter Ball."
Blossom rolled her eyes. "Trust me, you'll get your stupid little ball."
She walked over to a small closet in the back of the room.
"What exactly are you looking for?" I asked.
"Salt." Came her muffled response. "I need salt for this spell and lots of it."
"Let me help." I took one of the heavy jars of salt from her arms.
"Thanks. Now we just need somewhere to do it. A place where hopefully no one will stumble upon it… Bubbles?"
"What?"
Blossom gave her a look.
"Fine! There's this old church on the edge of the property. No one goes in there."
Blossom nodded. "I know that one."
"Then I'll meet you there!" She was halfway out the door before Blossom called out to her. Her eyebrows did this cute little thing she does when she's nervous or suspicious.
"To do what exactly?"
Bubbles' face reddened quickly.
"To um…. Make sure the coast is clear?"
"Fine. But take Boomer with you."
"Fine! Let's go Boomer."
My brother ran after her immediately.
"He's in love with her." I said. Not surprising. She was beyond beautiful and had something strange that draws you to her. Boomer's type of girl. Yet, she was still so cold to him and everyone.
"I've noticed." Blossom sighed. "Most people are. That's the way it's always been."
I took a step closer to her. Her pink lips had a sad kind of smile. So tempting.
"Don't count yourself out so much."
Our lips pressed together in one swift motion. It was gentle and innocent with a spark. Blossom's pink eyes met my red ones as we pulled apart.
She touched her lips in shock.
"Did you feel that too?" She asked.
"What? The spark?"
"Yeah… that. It felt… Right."
"Yeah I know."
"Can we—?"
"Yeah!"
Our lips crashed together again as we tumbled onto an infirmiry bed. This time it we were passionate and desperate. Clothes can off with ease until we were skin to skin. Our fingers tangled in each other's red hair. What happened next was a daze as I lost myself to her.
Two big scenes in this one! What will happen with Blossom and Brick next? Will Buttercup return?
Q: Should Boomer give up on Bubbles?
