Chapter 12: I won't Leave You

Tim's POV

"Jason, can I ask you something?"

"What is it, Babybird?" he responded.

"Why aren't you a Titan like Dick is?"

He froze and swallowed as he turned away from me.

"Just cause." He mumbled as I frowned.

"Oh… Why don't you ever have any friends over?"

"Because I don't want to! Stop asking me questions!" he screamed at me before shoving me out of his room.

I didn't mean to make him mad at me.

"Timmy what's wrong? Why is Jason screaming?" Dick asked as he appeared in the hallway.

"I didn't mean to make him mad." I whispered, trying to hold back tears.

"What did you say to Jason?" Dick asked.

"I asked him why he isn't a Titan like you." I softly responded as Dick cringed.

He bent down and took my hand before leading me to his bedroom. I sat on his bed as he retrieved a scrapbook and took a seat beside me.

"Jason was a Titan once, Timmy. But, something happened and he quit."

"Why?" I asked as Dick flipped to a picture of Jason standing with a girl and two boys, all about his age. The girl was really pretty, but she looked a little older than Jay. One of the boys was a brunette and the other was a blonde with dark skin.

"That's Tula; she was Jason's first girlfriend. And that's Chris and Connor, they were his best friends." Dick replied sadly.

"What happened?" I asked looking at the picture.

"They died. It was an accident. Jason blames himself for their deaths…" Dick began before breaking off.

Poor Jay. I have Bart, Conner, Artemis, Kaldur, and Cassie. Jason doesn't have anyone except me and Dick… But, Jay and I are best friends. Aren't we?

********Break********

"Jay?" I called out softly before slowly pushing his door open.

I could see him curled up on his bed, facing the window. Silently, I padded across the floor before clambering up beside him.

"I'm sorry." I whispered as he continued to ignore me.

"I don't have to be friends with Bart, Conner, Artemis, Kaldur, and Cassie if it hurts you… But, you're my best friend." I swore as he rolled over to look at me with red puffy eyes.

"I didn't know about what happened with your friends. But, we can always be best friends. I won't leave you." I promised as he reached out and collected me against his chest.

"Don't leave me, Babybird. Don't leave me." he ordered, squishing me with his hug.

I could feel his tears dripping down my neck as he squeezed me tightly. This is the first time I've ever seen Jason cry… It's funny, how the people we think can walk on water, the one's we think are invincible, are only human… Sometimes, they're as broken as we are.
