Here is the next chapter. I'm trying to update more often. Please tell me what you guys think.

Ch. 13

I wake up to Gemma walking back through the bushes with a rabbit in her hand. A dead rabbit. I don't think I've seen a single animal this whole time. Looking at it I realize how hungry I am.

She quickly skins it and and gathers some wood.

"Won't that give away out position to the remaining tributes?" I ask concerned.

"It's still early so the smoke won't be so easily noticed." She explains.

"Where did you learn this?"

"I live next door to another family and the father is a really nice guy who helped my mother with food. Since I was the oldest he taught me a few things. He has two daughters of his own. His older one looks a lot like him. She's only 7. And then the younger one looks so much like her mother with her blond hair and blue eyes. They are such a nice family. I really hope they will never have to go through this. He was almost like a second father to us and he had the most beautiful voice. Even the birds would stop to listen, his eldest daughter inherited that too. I hear her some times singing to her sister."

"Sounds like a nice family."

She just looks down and smiles. I can tell they mean a lot to her.

She cooks the rabbit and we each take some and eat. We sit around for most of the afternoon. It's early evening and I hear it. The unmistakable sound of my trap going off and the yell of a boy. Without much thought I quickly move through the bushes and launch my trident towards the trap that I know went off. A shriek of pain but no cannon. I step out of the bushes and see the boy quickly bleeding to death. I got his stomach. I slowly approach and remove the trident. A moment later the cannon goes off. I hear a scream behind me and quickly whip around to see a girl staring at the boy in the net. Must be her district partner. Then Gemma comes through the bushes and the girl tries to take her out but before she can move a single step my trident impales her chest and the cannon goes off almost immediately. Gemma just stares at the girl. I walk up and remove my trident from the small girls chest.

"We should leave so they can collect the bodies."

She just nods and starts through the bushes.

I decide to show her the stream. I need to fill my water anyways. We take the long journey in silence. She just stares at the ground the whole time. When we get to the stream we fill up our bottles and I suggest we go back to the nets. She just stands there looking at the water.

"There aren't many of us left." She states. She's right. I've almost forgotten how many are gone. And I've killed 5 of them. "We should go our separate ways. I don't want it to come down to just the two of us."

Now it's my turn to stare at the water. Before I can come up with a reply she turns and walks away into the trees, leaving me alone with just my thoughts.

Not long after she leaves another cannon goes off. Without thinking I take off in the direction she went. After an hour I decide that it couldn't have been her. I would have found her by now. It's getting dark so I decide to find a place to sleep and I wait for the seal. I sit in silence chewing on a piece of the rabbit, that she gave me, and sipping some water.

When the anthem finally comes on I almost jump out of my skin. The faces flash. The boy from 5 and both from 11. That's it. She still alive. There are only a handful of us left and I know the game makers are going to make things interesting.

The night is interrupted by two cannons going off within moments of each other. My first thought is Gemma. I'm not sure what happened but it was quick. There are only 3 of us left. I'm so close to getting home.

Sounds of trumpets echo through the arena and I know immediately what is going to happen.

"Attention tributes," Claudius Templesmith's voice fills the trees, "we will be having a feast at dawn. You won't wan to miss this. It will be held at the cornucopia. Again that is a feast at dawn at the cornucopia. Don't miss it."

The arena falls silent. I look up at the moon and realize there are still several hours until dawn, if the arena moves at regular time. I decide to make my way there. I pack up my sleeping bag and rope and put on my glasses and hold my trident in one hand and my last piece of rabbit meat in the other. My knives are in my pockets for easy access. This could be my last night in the arena.

I've been in here just over a week I think. But this is most likely going to be it. This time tomorrow I will be on my way home. Question is, alive or dead?

Don't forget to review! I really want to know if you guys like it.
