After not hearing from John for months after his daughter was born, Sherlock starts receiving hand-written letters from him telling Sherlock about his day, asking him how he's been doing, asking him for help...it's the last bit that gets them both in to a bit of a bind. WARNING: Abusive relationship (Mary/John) and Character death (not overly graphic).

John sits in his chair, hardly breathing as he reads the sentence over again for what may actually be the millionth time.

A paternity test?

But something in his chest knows he's been contemplating the same idea for awhile now.

The front door opens and he quickly hides the letter.
