Chapter 13

It took her a moment to adjust to her new surroundings, it was quite surreal, like the time when she was with Neal and they had tripped out together, this was very similar and everything was whirly and bright, the edges of her vision warped slightly and it was a little too warm but instead of concentrating on that, she stumbled through the black wrought iron gate that opened to a long thin patterned orange brick path that was flanked on either side by neatly trimmed dark green bushes and at the end of the pathway an ornate white gazebo entrance, with four large white pillars, a large white front door and glittering next to the black iron knocker were the numbers one hundred and eight.

Her stomach pitter pattered at the sight of it and unconsciously she held her breath, her legs felt like lead as they carried her towards the front door, even closer to those glinting digits, even closer to the person she knew without a doubt was inside that incredibly beautiful manor house.

She didn't stop to use the ornate door knocker, instead trembling fingers came to rest on the black door handle and she pushed down and at first the door wouldn't move, it took her a moment but she finally managed to get it open and she closed it behind her quietly.

The inside of the house was bright, though the unsteadiness to her gait was now gone she still physically trembled, the cherry wood floors literally shone and she moved carefully up the four steps that lead up to the ornate foyer and instinctively she turned right, her shoes sounded heavy on the floor as she moved into the over size kitchen with gleaming white marbled countertops where she saw Regina and her breath caught at the sight of the other woman.

She was wearing a pair of black slacks, white shirt which was covered by an apron that had a scrawl of writing across, 'Don't forget to kiss the chef!' and at her entrance the brunette looked up and greeted her with a dazzling smile.

"Morning," She said quietly and Emma noted that the happiness was rolling off her in waves, she didn't say a word just drifted closer and watched as scrambled eggs were added to a white plate with a blue patterned edge and from the corner of the room toast popped loudly from the toaster making the blonde jump.

She watched as the brunette retrieved the toast, her eyes followed the other woman's form as she glided across the room, her movements assisted by the staccato sounds of her stiletto's on the wooden floor, she turned quickly and their eyes connected once more.

Regina smiled, it was almost predatory and Emma shivered, knowing it was her Regina looking at her like that this time sent a wave of desire through her.

Burgundy lips pulled into a sultry smile and after placing the toast on the plates she turned to the blonde properly, before she trailed a hand down her arm, running fingers along red leather, the blonde's old jacket, her favourite jacket that resided in the back of her closet, the one she rarely wore any more, which then made her wonder why she was wearing it in the first place.

Her questions were answered when Regina softly said, "Seriously, when are you going to give up this hideous thing up?"

"What?"

"It seriously looks like you have skinned and killed something to wear... that's how garish it is," She looked up at her through dark lashes and Emma gulped in response.

"Uh..."

But before she could form an articulate response, the brunette had leaned forward and placed full lips over her own, a shock filtered through her, a heat ran the length of her body and suddenly memories rapidly flashed through her mind, blurring reality for a moment, different images of Regina, Henry and Snow White flooded her brain at a disorienting speed, she felt dizzy, one hand moving to the counter top and the other to Regina's shoulder to steady herself.

The brunette drew back slowly, almost hesitantly, her chocolate orbs glistened slightly, her voice broke as she whispered her name and Emma literally felt her knees go weak a second time.

"Yes," The blonde answered quietly, her hands instantly cupping the brunette's face, "Yes..."

"You're not supposed to be here," Regina said quietly a hint of confusion in her tone and she lowered her gaze as she tried to pull away from the blonde, "you're supposed to be at work."

"No... Regina," Emma attempted again this time grasping one hand tightly between her own as the other lifted to raise her chin, "Regina... it's me..."

"What?" Regina choked out.

"It's really me..." Emma muttered quietly and as they stared at one another quietly for a moment, tears started to well up in the brunette's eyes and Emma watched as the walls broke in front of her.

"Oh, gods," Regina whispered as she attempted to back up, "I..."

"Regina, please look at me..." Emma pleaded, her heart crumbling at the fear that was displayed upon beautiful features, that vein in her forehead pulsed as the brunette tried to get her emotions under control before she could finally speak again, but it was Emma who spoke first, "It's okay."

"How? When?"

"Just then..." Emma whispered quietly before she moved closer to the brunette again, she cupped her face one more time and this time confidently leaned in, her knees started trembling again, but it was all starting to make sense, "When you kissed me... it came back," She was a breath away from the other woman, her eyes flickered from full lips up to watery chocolate brown eyes and Emma didn't wait this time before she placed her own lips over Regina's.

It was like heaven when she touched her, long fingers came up to tangle in brown tresses and she pulled the other woman closer, pressing their bodies together, Regina no longer seemed to be putting up a fight and her hands wrapped around Emma's petite form easily, they fit together perfectly... almost like they were made for one another and finally after a moment they broke apart, their breathing heavy.

They didn't speak, just stared at one another and breathing each other's air seemed to be content enough for the both of them. Emma sighed softly leaning into the crook of Regina's neck and sighed again, breathing in the scent that seemed to be so uniquely Regina, a musky sort of perfume with a hint of apples and she laughed softly.

"What's so funny?" Regina snapped, her tone tinged with hurt as she tried to pull away but again Emma wouldn't let her.

"Relax, I'm not laughing at you," Emma said softly, experimentally she kissed the expanse of skin on Regina's neck that her nose was pressed against, the brunette stilled with a sharp intake of breath before a shuddering one was released.

"Then what were you laughing about?" She asked again and this time Emma pulled away from her so she could look her in the eyes.

"I was thinking that the one thing I distinctively remember, have always remembered even without my memories... is your perfume," Emma tilted her head slightly and a sheepish smile made it's way onto porcelain features.

"Oh," Regina said bluntly.

"I missed it," Emma responded quietly before moving closer once more and tentatively placing a chaste kiss over her lips. They were still for a moment longer until Emma spoke again, "You need to come back Regina."

"Why?" The brunette countered almost frustratingly.

"Because we need you," Emma said softly, "Actually, that's not right..."

"Oh?" Regina sniffed, lifting her head rather haughtily and glaring back at the blonde, "Then whatis?"

"I need you," The blonde replied carefully, her emeralds orb conveying everything else she couldn't say at that moment.

"Oh," Regina answered, her voice softening and she smiled a little, she looked down then and realized Emma still held tightly to her hands and she gave an automatic squeeze of reassurance before she looked back up at the blonde, "I don't think I can."

"Yes, you can," The blonde countered, her voice unwavering, "You have to."

"No, I mean..." She sighed softly, not sure how to continue, not sure how to tell the blonde she didn't feel strong enough, that she was happy here, that this was her dream place, if she was to die this is how she would want to do it, here living as a family but as she opened her mouth to say all these things... nothing came out.

"Regina, it's okay," Emma whispered reassuringly, her fingers had moved and were now tracing small patterns on the back of the older woman's neck.

"No... it's not..." She muttered back huskily.

"Tell me..." Emma implored and when Regina cast her gaze away, she moved her own head with her until she would look at her again, emerald orbs glistened and she nodded before spoke once more, "You can trust me, Regina."

"I know that... it's not... that..." She trailed off miserably and sucked in a breath trying to regain some of her emotions, trying to wrap her head around the fact that her kiss had given Emma her memories back implying in every bit of her action that it was True Love's kiss and while she had only just come to terms with her actual feelings for the blonde woman she was trying to find the irony in the fact that she was in love with her once sworn enemies daughter... The Saviour... the mother of her son... the list could go on and at that thought she started laughing, "Oh gods..."

"Now who is the one laughing?" Emma chuckled even though her whole body screamed with the other woman's reaction.

"Oh gods," Regina repeated.

"Now seriously, you're giving me way too much ammo here," Emma stated, Regina met her gaze again and they both laughed together for a moment before the blonde spoke again, "No seriously, Regina, I'm really kind of confused here."

"I'm trying to wrap my head around this... around you..." She smiled and then said quietly, "Us."

Emma didn't say anything just nodded her head slightly, acknowledging the craziness of the entire situation, the whole thing almost made her head hurt if it wasn't for the fact that every time she looked at the brunette her breath caught and the feelings she evoked in her made it all worth it especially now she knew that the older woman liked her back... may even love her if that kiss was any indication.

"Now... are you ready to wake up?" Emma whispered quietly, "I need you to come back to me."

"I..." Regina started but before she could finish her sentence, Emma's hands were in her hair and pulling her face back to her where she claimed the other woman's mouth once more.

A few moments later they pulled apart and Emma repeated her statement, this time refusing to make it a question and before waiting for Regina to answer her, turned in the embrace, grasped the woman's hand tightly, pulling her gently towards the front door.

"Emma... wait..."

"No!" The blonde replied stubbornly.

Regina hissed, pulling her hands roughly from the blonde's,

"Emma, I can't!"

"What?" Emma's eyes widened and she tried to ignore the feeling of rejection at Regina's fierce reluctance had left within her and swallowed, "Why?"

"If you would just listen to me for one second," The brunette growled, "I... don't think I can."

"Why?" Emma repeated.

"Because... because I..." She stumbled on her words and in a short exhale she breathed out the words she was having so much trouble relinquishing, "I'm scared."

"Of what, Regina?" Emma asked exasperated, pearlescent white teeth pulling a petite pink bottom lip between them, her own fear eating away at her at the prospect of the brunette not returning with her.

"It's easier this way," She uttered as she started to back up.

"For who?" Emma snapped.

"Both of us..."

"Bullshit, Regina. That is a coward talking you are the farthest thing I know from that..." She choked on her words and the brunette watched the crestfallen look that plastered itself to porcelain features and her own heart broke. She had caused this and instead of rushing forward to comfort the blonde like she wanted to, she backed up another few steps and hardened herself slightly and she went to speak again but Emma interrupted her once more, "You are literally the bravest, strongest person I know Regina... Henry needs you just as much as I do."

"He doesn't even remember me..." She whispered, "How is this going to affect him?"

"We will make him remember, we will figure it out... together..."

"But it hurts Emma... I..." Regina tried again faltering and stumbling over her own words.

"I know," Emma inched closer carefully, scared her movements would make the older brunette run but when she didn't she hesitated mere inches from her again but contained enough self control not to touch her even though she desperately wanted to, "It will probably hurt for a while and I'm not going to lie about that but... Regina... I honestly can't lose you, not now..."

"When did you get so clingy?" The brunette sniped jokingly and Emma laughed in response before giving in and pulling her close again, at first Regina stiffened but after a few seconds hands were around waist, shucking up her jacket and fisting the back of her tank top.

"About the time that I thought I was going to lose you," Emma mumbled into her hair.

"No the new you... sorry... the you without your memories was a lot more clingy than I have ever seen you," Regina countered.

"That's just with you... I... I didn't know why but I also knew that we had a connection, that the longer I touched you the stronger I felt and I knew that must have been doing the same with you and you looked so..." Emma swallowed, "Broken... and I felt so safe with you that I actually didn't care that I was becoming fairly dependent on you... I'm sorry if that bothered you."

"I won't lie, it annoyed me somewhat but mainly because not only was it strengthening me, it made my feelings stronger for you and that you weren't entirely the Emma I loved... parts were but not completely and I didn't want to get weaker in that aspect either."

"Oh," Emma whispered against her shoulder and then sighed softly, "I'm sorry."

"Don't be... you're back now," The brunette answered before she pulled away, "I think I'm ready to do this."

"I'll be with you, I promise," Emma whispered and smiled reassuringly at the brunette who without prompting reached out and grasped her hand again.

"I know, that's the only reason I'm able to do this right now," She murmured and flushed a deep red before clearing her throat and trying to regain her composure. She sounded like a teenager... it was embarrassing and she loved and loathed the fact that it was Emma that saw her this way and without warning Emma kissed her again.

"You're beautiful," Emma hummed as they parted before turning and they both walked hand in hand out the front door of the manor.

Her eyelids fluttered open, there was barely any light in the room and she was still in the same position she had fallen asleep in at the beginning of her spell, this time the difference being that her right hand was now being gripped firmly, the head her other hand was resting on turned and with the movement she moved it down cupping her cheek, rubbing her thumb along the smooth plane and she sighed softly.

"You're back," She whispered, her voice catching and before she could stop herself she placed petite pink over full lips and a moan escaped one of them, but she wasn't sure who at the gentle touch.

"I am..." Regina husked, her voice just as raw as before if not worst, she cringed at the dryness and then the pain that followed, unconsciously she held on tighter to the other woman, Emma inched carefully closer and pulled the brunette's head to rest gently on her chest.

"I've got you," She said softly, "I'm not going anywhere."

"I know," Regina coughed and then fell silent, her chest making a horrible wheezing sound and Emma frowned in the darkness.

"Is there anything I or we can do?" Emma asked hesitantly her fingers now running through long dark locks soothingly.

"Nothing like that, dear," She wheezed again, "Healing spells are hard and dangerous. Only Gold... could do it."

"Oh," Emma mumbled before placing a kiss to the brunette's clammy forehead, though she knew they'd been asleep, she felt exhausted and she knew Regina with her injuries must have too, "Regina?"

"Yes?"

"Will you come back to me again?" The blonde asked, her hand shook momentarily in it's strokes and the nervous tremor in the woman's body did not go unnoticed by the brunette who tilted her head where she was laid and placed a tentative kiss to the strong jaw she could just make out and then what could only be described as a nuzzle to her neck.

"Yes."

No other words were needed in that instant.
