OSPREY…SWOOOSH
UO: OH YEAH! I AM BACK BABY! No more finals. No more school… (Goes to the corner of woe) it's the real world for me.
Ichigo: (Sweatdrops) Wow bipolar much.
UO: (Quickly recovers) I'm sorry who wants to be wrecked on the first lap?
Ichigo: Uh….Uryu does.
UO: Oh good thanks Ichigo.
Uryu: WHAT!? Ichigo how could you say stuff like that. FEEL THE WRAITH OF THE QUINCY (Starts firing off sprit arrows)
Ichigo: You Bastard (Pulls out Zangetsu and they start brawling wrecking the studio.)
UO: (Sigh) If I wasn't happy to be back I would be commenting on this. Oh well that's money out of the Fairy Tail budget.
Tatsuki: Glad to see you back
Orihime: Yes the little blue men are no match for our mighty author.
UO: Thanks girls, with the boys indisposed at the moment. (Sees Andrew Elbow Drop Uryu through a table only for him to be power bombed through the set.) Do you girls mind giving the disclaimer while they calm down?
Tatsuki: Certainly. UnitedOsprey1991 does not own us, Tite Kubo does. He also doesn't own any of the tracks, the teams, the manufacturers, any real world companies named or the theoretical future drivers. He only owns Andrew, Maria, Raoul and Jessica. Jury is out on Rebecca.
UO: Thank you Tatsuki. (Ducks a flying chair) Now if you will excuse me it's time for them to KNOW THEIR PLACE. (Jumps in as the entire male cast gets involved)

Chapter 12: Battleground Indianapolis
When we last left our heroes they were facing not just the weather but someone out to disable their cars at Road America. The Kurosaki cars were able to avoid trouble for the most pat but Uryu ran into engine trouble. Thanks to quick thinking on the part of new crew member Nemu he was able to get back in the race and then outlast his competition for his first Grand Prix win and the fourth overall for the Kurosaki team. The man, Andrew's rival Joshua, was taken into custody but unfortunately despite photo evidence courtesy of Tatsuki, they could not get Joshua on anything more than littering and being unsportsmanlike. He was put on probation for the remainder of the B division schedule and his conduct would be taken into account if Golden State limited advanced.
But this news could not damper the spirit in the Kurosaki garage as they walked into the meeting room.
Isshin smiled. "Alright I know you guys are pumped so I will make this quick. Two things of note, the first is that me and Ryuken will be heading back to Japan with Yuzu and Karin."
Ichigo frowned. "What's up pops normally you would be excited to stay with us.
Isshin chuckled. "Yeah but Karin and Yuzu want to go back for a little while and we have a board meeting to discuss the fiscal year. So with that the crew chiefs are going to swapped around. Yoruichi you will move over to Ichigo, Kisuke is staying with Andrew. Uryu you will be teamed up with Mayuri and Tessai will be with Chad."
Mayuri grinned and turned to the blue-haired man who could only pale. "Relax Ishida-san I can find better way to scare people. I am sure our partnership will be most beneficial.
Ichigo and Andrew had to suppress their chuckles while Orihime giggled at Uryuu's paling face. Tatsuki though asked a question.
"So who will take their place? Yuzu and Karin I mean?"
Isshin smiled at Tatsuki. "Well I have one person ready to use. You remember Jinta right Ichigo?"
Ichigo had a look of realization. "That squirt? Great I guess it could be worse. I mean it could be Keigo."
"Don't be like that Ichigo where is the support man?" Said brunette whined only to be knocked out by an innocent looking Mizurio.
Andrew rolled his eyes at his crew member.
"And to replace Yuzu we have…
"ME!" said a happy looking purple haired woman with a red bow in her hair.
Andrew and Ichigo widened their eyes and Ichigo smiled. "Hey Senna it has been long time huh."
The now named Senna smiled. "Guess it has been. For those who don't know me I was part of the crew for a couple of years before the team got to the big leagues. I wanted to go into business and well Mr. Kurosaki gave me an in road with the company. Now I am here to help especially with the long stretch coming up."
Isshin smiled and pulled up a track on the projector. "Our final note is the track. We are heading for the legendary Indianapolis motor speedway and will be using the road track there. Off the front straight which is almost 5/8ths a mile, you have to slow down considerably for turn one. You start picking up speed into turn two a left hander and head into three and four which are right handers. A short straight in 5 and then the track doubles back with a sweeping left in 6 and then a right turn onto a short straight. Then you go into a 90 degree left hander at 8 where you slow down considerably. Then turns 9 and 10 are slow sections which present opportunities to pass. After turn 10 you go onto the pit access road for the main circuit and actually climb onto the main circuit itself for the last three turns and that is one lap on this version of the course. Andrew you got anything to add?
Andrew sighed. "Yeah this course is fast and tight. Combine that with the fact many drivers want to win on this track because of the prestige and this circuit as gained the nickname the Warzone. Last five races on the Grand Prix track an average of 14 cars made it to the end."
Orihime looked scared and Tatsuki though she didn't show it, was concerned as well.
Andrew continued, "What's more I don't think most of the drivers realize this but there is banking. This track along with Daytona are the only tracks with banking we run this year. I think those that have gone through the American systems expect this. Now Indy is not as extreme as Daytona but nine degrees means the tires are going to be a factor. All those G-forces would pressure on the tires. I know Goodyear makes them special but not sure what Bridgestone will do."
Isshin nodded. "Thank you. Now then we will head out tomorrow, so you guys gets some rest, dismissed."
They all left to do their own thing. Senna walked over to Orihime and Tatsuki. "Hey there, it's nice to meet some other girls my age."
Orihime giggled. "Same here, come on we can exchange stories at our bunk."
Senna smiled at followed them to their bunk where they stripped out of their work clothes and into some casual sleepwear. Over the next couple of hours the girls exchanged stories. Senna told about her working with Ichigo and the crew, while Orihime and Tatsuki were telling her about school and other fun things.
After telling a particularly funny story, Senna calmed down from laughing. "You have some crazy stories you know that." She said.
Tatsuki grinned. "You don't know the half of it." She said taking a bite out of a cookie.
Senna asked an innocent question. "So what's your relationship with the two boys?"
This caught Tatsuki by surprise and the cookie went down the wrong pipe causing her to choke. Orihime helped her recover.
"What relationship. We are good friends." Tatsuki said defensively.
Senna gained a mischievous look. "Oh don't play coy. I saw both of your reactions when Andrew was describing the track. You were worried.
The two girls at least had to decency to blush
Senna smiled and shook her head. "Mum's the word. But I would advise you to tell them sooner rather than later."
Orihime looked up. "But we don't know what the boy's feelings are?"
Senna giggled. "Oh this will be fun to watch. But I think it will work out. Anyway good night you two I look forward to working with you." She said as she left the bunk.
Tatsuki and Orihime looked at each other and then went to their respective bunks."
Meanwhile, the two boys in question were in a lounge area watching baseball. By coincidence, Andrew's favorite team was on.
"The 1-2…and swing and a miss and that will end the top of the fifth. The score is Philadelphia 1, Cincinnati 3.
"God damn it. Two on no outs and they blew it. Ugh…at least they are doing okay season wise." Andrew said taking a sip of his drink.
Ichigo sweatdropped, "Geez man you take this sports seriously."
Andrew looked at Ichigo who was dressed similarly to him in a pair of sleep shorts and a t-shirt. "Baseball is America's pastime. A sport that has lasted 200 years has to be doing something right, almost as old as soccer and you see how popular that became."
Shinji who was also watching this shook his head. "For some reason I find this sport boring, now basketball that's where it is at."
Andrew growled. "Don't you dare bring up that money grubbing sport I do not know how the sport has survived this long." Andrew said as Shinji stuck out his pierced tongue."
Ichigo smiled as the game resumed. After another half inning, Andrew turned to Shinji. "So how the heck are you guys going to get the planes over here?"
Shinji smiled. "Well the planes will arrive before the race on Sunday. We will load them up and then fly out next Monday. The planes will be at the Indy airport."
Andrew groaned. "Great a long plane ride. Ugh." Andrew said tilting his head back.
Ichigo chimed in. "Yeah you better get used to a plane. Two months, eight races in a row and numerous flights to and from each place."
Andrew slammed his head on the table. "Great. Guess that's what we get for taking this profession.
Shinji sighed. "You aren't the only ones. The crew has to make sure the cars and equipment are working. So I don't envy ya."
Ichigo looked at Shinji. "I know we don't say it but thanks to all of you. We appreciate that. Right Andrew?"
Andrew slowly sat up. "Yeah, yeah, don't take this wrong I am a little tired."
The game came on for the next inning and the first pitch connected. Andrew instantly woke up and he cheered as it cleared the fence.
The other's sweatdropped at the quick change in his demeanor as the game continued. The game ended an hour later with the Phillies coming back and winning 4-3. They went to bed shortly after to get enough sleep for the road trip.
Souske garage
Souske Aizen was not a man that got upset easily. But what happened in Road America was a disaster. Two of his cars were taken out by each other and the only one that did well was Ulquiorra. He had just chastised Grimmjow and Tier and was now watching the stock market online. The Monday trading for the Nikkei index had opened up less than an hour ago. He already saw the stocks for Souske Ltd. go from 22966.22 yen or $224 a share down to 22454.07 or $219 a share. The other two racing teams were on the rise, with Kurosaki-Ishida Enterprises nearing 25119.85 yen or $245 ahead of their fiscal year report which he knew from hacking were in the black even after paying all of the taxes needed. Kuchiki Industries was at 24812.26 or $242 a share ahead of their quarterly report.
Aizen scowled. This was a product of how integrated racing had become on the world economic stage. All nine companies in this year's Grand Prix had huge companies behind them. Red Bull, the drink maker and sports sponsor, the sports car manufacturer Ferrari, the luxury German brand Audi, the shipping giants, Stewart-Haas, the sports conglomerate Rousch-Fenway, the parts and cell makers Hendrick, the industrial investor Kuchiki and the medical overall investment firm Kurosaki-Ishida enterprises. All these along with Souske limited have large money into their race teams and as a result the success of the teams on track reflect on how well the brand is. Almost all of the large companies have teams in either the World Grand Prix tiers or the associated continental systems.
What separated Souske limited from the rest of the world is that most of the company's assets were ill-gotten gains. About 80% of what this company is built was extortion, blackmail, buy outs and underworld crime. He tried to orchestrate an incident with the drivers from Kurosaki-Ishida three weeks ago to hurt the company's reputation. That failed and as a result two of the Yakuza families he had ties with were found and shut down. The money he invested in them of course 'disappeared' but he still had to cover it on the balance sheets. So he titled it "special investment funds" and dumped it into a dummy account.
But in the end none of that matter because he figured out a way to control everything and it was on the fuel everyone depended on now, the hydrogen fuel cell. When the fuel cell became a viable option over oil, those who invested heavily in oil like Exxon Mobil were nearly ruined and those who diversified like Shell gained considerable profit. This was especially true after the Persian War fifteen years ago as they fought over the water sources needed to power this new fuel. Aizen at the age of twenty-six executed a coup and bought out the bankrupt companies and invested heavily in the infrastructure needed. The result was that he ended up controlling 25% of the world hydrogen fuel production through various fronts. What he wanted though was the entire control and for that he needed a way to buy out the two largest investors. Those two just so happen to be Kurosaki-Ishida Enterprises and Kuchiki Industries who through legitimate means invested in several companies in Asia and in North America to keep the companies afloat. This was just one source of their considerable wealth as all the returns totaled in the hundreds of millions of American dollars. This combined with their diversification made them quite a value to invest.
Aizen chuckled. He knew what had to happen. The Souske cars had to win and the reputation of the other two had to plummet. He had two plans. One for Austria and one for Russia. He dialed a number to a PMC company on his payroll.
After a few minutes he hung and had to smile. All according to plan.
Next day on the road to Chicago
The Garnet colored vehicle motored its way down the high way with the occupants minding their own business.
Andrew though had a smile on his face.
Flashback two hours prior
Andrew, Ichigo, Orihime and Tatsuki were preparing to hit the road when Isshin approached Andrew.
"Hey guys just thought I give you something before you start heading off to Indianapolis. I think considering the short distance between here and the city I give you guys some kill time. Here I made you reservations with a hotel in downtown Chicago. Three days two nights.
Ichigo smiled. "Thanks dad."
Isshin smiled. "I also pulled some strings. Check these out." Isshin said pulling out four tickets. "I heard your favorite baseball team is in town facing the White Sox. First base line at U.S Cellular Field.
Andrew widened his eyes "Isshin…you didn't have to do this."
Isshin patted his shoulder. "You have made some great sacrifices to race with us. Moving to another country that's incredibly foreign and having to miss your family. Consider this a gift for all your work so far.
Andrew teared up slightly. "Thank you." He made a grab but Isshin pulled it back slightly.
"One catch. My contact wants an interview with the entire team on Wednesday. Do that one interview Wednesday Morning and you are free to do whatever you want."
Ichigo and Andrew looked at each other and nodded. "That will be fine dad." Ichigo said
"Yeah I can handle a serious interview or two." Andrew replied.
Isshin smiled and laughed. "Do me proud boys." And handed the tickets to Andrew who looked like Christmas came early.
Flashback end
Andrew still had the goofy grin on his face as they went past Milwaukee. "Ichigo your dad is awesome you know that.
Ichigo played it off cool. "Yeah he has his moments."
They heard giggling and saw it was Orihime laughing. "Ichigo you and your father are so alike you know that."
Ichigo mock scowled. "I am not like him Orihime."
Tatsuki laughed. "Let's see you have an over protective streak with your sisters, you brawl randomly with anyone and you have the same looking on your face when your flustered."
Ichigo proceeded to imitate the flustered face getting everyone to laugh.
"If it's any consolation I act like my dad too. I keep getting confused for him a lot."
Changing the subject Orihime asked. "So where is this baseball field?"
Andrew looked at her through the rearview mirror. "It's on the south side of the city. It might be more prudent to find the hotel first."
Orihime nodded as they crossed the state border. An hour later they had reached the city out skirts. They travelled along the I-94 as they made their way to their hotel. Tatsuki looked out from her vantage point and saw a sandy shore.
Andrew pointed this out. "That's Lake Michigan, one of the five Great Lakes here in North America and the only one that is entirely in the United States, the other four form part of the U.S Canada border. We might have been able to see Superior up in Road America. When we come back for Canada's grand prix we might be able to see the other three, Huron, Ontario and Erie. The whole system used to be larger but due to global warming and other factors it shrank considerably. Hopefully some of the things the government has down will reverse it without too much ecological damage.
Tatsuki watched the lake as Andrew slowed due to the traffic. An hour later they were finally at the hotel. It was a nice place in down town Chicago overlooking the river. The two rooms were divided along gender lines as they settled in for the next couple of hours including lunch and for the boys working out a bit. At about 5 they departed to avoid as much traffic as they could and made their way to the ball park. After navigating the traffic they finally parked their car. Walking towards the stadium Andrew spotted something.
"Hey guys take a look at this." Andrew said walking over to what appeared to be a plate.
Andrew crouched in a specific spot. "We are over the old Cominskey Park and this is the home plate for the stadium. Come on take a picture."
Tatsuki rolled her eyes but nonetheless did so. Orihime did so as well and Ichigo got in on the act, standing like a batter and allowing for some photos. They made their way into the stadium as they made it through security.
"Wow!" Orihime said in childish wonder as they made their way through the concourse. "What a big stadium I didn't think they would be so packed.
Andrew chuckled. "You sound like you have never been to a pro baseball game." At the lack of response he turned to his companions. "You're kidding me right?"
Even Ichigo looked sheepish. Andrew sighed and then perked up. "Well you are at least aware of the game right.
"Yeah we saw a couple of high school baseball games. Kind of hard not too in Japan."
Andrew clapped his hands. "Alright first pro game well let's hope this game will be enjoyable. Let's go get some merchandise I at least want a program."
They made their way to the store where the girls got hat which on Orihime made her look cute and Tatsuki had flipped hers around. Andrew had one of his FSU hats and Ichigo decided not to get anything.
Finally reaching their seats they had a great view of the field. They the opportunity to take a picture of the couples with Orihime blushing prettily with Ichigo's arms on her shoulders. When it was Andrew and Tatsuki's turn they had decided to swap hats which got laughs out of the other two.
As Andrew was filling out the score book Orihime had the curious question. "What is that?"
Andrew held it up. "This is a score card. You keep track of the at bats runs etc. with each player. To keep track of each play there are certain letters and numbers. The numbers 1-9 are the pitcher, catcher, first, second, third basemen, shortstop, left, center and right fielders in that order. So I just keep track through the game."
Before Orihime could ask again, the PA instructed people to stand for the national anthem. After it played the game got under way. After the first inning which nothing significant happened, Andrew went with Tatsuki to get food leaving the two red heads to talk about random things as the second inning began. A few pitches in the batter, the first baseman for Philadelphia popped the ball foul and it headed right for their seats. More specifically right at Orihime. She watch the ball come closer to her and she squeaked as the ball came closer. Just before it hit her Ichigo stretched out and caught albeit losing his balance and landing right on her. This got the crowd around them to cheer and laugh a little bit.
Ichigo groaned and looked up to see Orihime looking down in concern. "Are you okay Ichigo-kun?"
Ichigo sat up and nodded looking at the ball. He held it up and the stands cheered some more.
"God damn Ichigo, you lucky dog." Andrew called out. The red heads looked and saw their friends coming back with their food.
"I have been to thirty games and not once have we ever gotten a foul ball. You two come along and bam you got one. So much for not having a souvenir Ichigo." Andrew laughed and got a picture with Ichigo and Orihime holding up the ball. After that excitement the game continued on with the home team eventually prevailing.
Andrew grumbled as they got to the car about the game and a couple of bad calls which had Tatsuki laughing. Ichigo though held up the baseball. "Guess I have something for the twins."
Andrew glared at Ichigo and shook his head as they reached the car.
"Hey there cutie." A slurred voice sounded. The four turned to see a drunk walking up to them and leering at Orihime.
"Buddy back off." Ichigo said as he and Andrew got in front of the girls.
The man did not back down as he stepped closer. The crowd that was in the parking lot saw this and were watching with some keen interest. Someone had called the cops as one of them happened to be walking over as the incident unfolded.
"Why are you punks even with a girl like her. Bet she could use a real man."
"I'm sorry, I only count two men here and one of them isn't you." Tatsuki said with a smirk.
"Why you little-"the man said rearing back only for it to be grabbed
"Hold it there." The cop said. "You are under arrest for drunken disorderly conduct. Let's get you down to the station." He turned to the four friends. "Are you okay?"
They nodded. "Don't worry about your statements. You have a safe ride home."
The cop took the drunk man away and they got in the car. Orihime and Ichigo were in the back and Tatsuki was in the front with Andrew. Getting through the traffic they finally made it back to the hotel a little shaken but in good spirits.
Andrew smiled. "How was your first baseball game other than that little incident?" Andrew asked.
Orihime and Tatsuki agreed it was fun though Orihime blushed as she remembered what happened with the catch. Saying their good nights they went to sleep after a long day of traveling and the game.
Two days later
After a fun tour around the city and seeing the various landmarks as part of their double date as they called it, it was now business time. Isshin's contact was with ESPN's Chicago branch. ESPN was one of the big networks in America and in the past they have covered the World Grand Prix. In fact when they alternated with Fox Sports it just wasn't their year to cover them. They approached the building in their semi casual clothes and were approached by a dark haired man.
"Hey there. I'm Dan Van Pelt. You must be Ichigo and Andrew. Come on, your other teammates are here."
The two followed them to the prep area where they saw Uryuu and Chad in the chairs.
The make-up people took a look at the two and with a little prep work they looked ready to go. They were lead up to the stage where Brian was waiting with chairs set aside for them. They waited a couple of minutes and then they were told to be read in a couple of minutes. Directed to the screen in front of them to watch the broadcast of SportsCenter to get ready for their cue.
On the screen
Jeremy: Grimmjow is out of fuel…The Kurosaki team is going to have a 1-2-3-4 sweep
Kommamura: Andrew is trying to make to the end his engine is screaming…
He does it and becomes the first American to win in the Middle East
Jushiro: These rookies are giving no quarter to the veterans
Nate: He is out of gas, Uryuu takes the lead. Uryuu is going to win at Road America.
Dan: (Chuckles) and a dominant performance by all involved. I'm Dan Van Pelt. And with me are four drivers who have taken this year's Grand Prix by storm. Ichigo Kurosaki, Andrew Michaels, Uryuu Ishida and Sado "Chad" Yasotora. Hello gentlemen.
They all greeted him individually.
Brian: So first question to Uryuu. How did you feel about winning this past week?
Uryuu: (Pushes up his glasses and smiles) To tell you the truth I didn't think I was going to win after my engine nearly getting torn up. From what I have heard some fan was tossing trash out onto the track. But after one of our crew members spotted the debris we were able to re-fuel and get my car back out. And well due to some fuel strategy we managed to pull off the win.
The others three drivers and the girls knew what really happened but kept their mouths shut.
Brian: And that is how Kurosaki-Ishida got their fourth win in seven races. Andrew you have won two races at Korea and at Abu Dhabi. What has it been like winning those races?
Andrew: Well it wasn't easy. Abu Dhabi we were fighting the desert climate and I almost passed out at the end of the race. At Korea you have seen that me and Soi Fong the 002 Kuchiki not getting along and we were dueling the entire time that race. And well you could see how that turned out…oh right there…and see ya."
As Andrew was talking they were showing clips from his win at Korea and they showed the crossover that won him at Korea.
Brian (Chuckles) I can see that was exciting to you. Now Ichigo and Andrew I understand that you guys have known each other a while.
Ichigo groaned and Andrew shook his head. Uryuu just had to smile while Chad looked uninterested.
Ichigo: Seriously how many times does this story keep getting brought up? Ugh…yeah we met in one of the lower tiers in the American system and let's just say we did not start on good terms.
Andrew: That would be an understatement bro. Let's just say video games and root bear buried the hatchet. He is the reason I am still racing.
Brian (Laughs) Wow. Video games and root beer. So Chad what's your story.
Chad: Me and Ichigo went to school together. I had a reputation for being a tough boy and well I got in trouble and Mr. Kurosaki, Ichigo's dad came to my defense one day. I have followed him ever since even onto the Grand Prix.
Brian: Nice. So Ichigo and Uryuu I understand your cousins?
Uryuu: Yes my Aunt Masaki married his Dad Isshin the CEO of Kurosaki-Ishida. God rest her soul she was a beautiful person inside and out.
Ichigo: Yeah mom was a looker even after three kids. My twin younger sisters are about six seven years younger than me. And…well take a look at that.
The image on screen was of Ichigo and his family in a recent photograph.
Ichigo: And they have been a part of my pit crew for several years and still are but they have school so for this week and few this year they will be back home. Along with my dad and uncle Ryuken who are home taking care of the business.
Brian: Ah I see. So before we let you go we have one more image from the Chicago White Sox and Philadelphia Phillies game on Monday and you were showing off some baseball skills.
The video of the catch in the stands was shown and Ichigo had to laugh as he watched him sprawl out over Orihime while holding onto the ball.
Andrew: Seriously thirty plus games, I don't get one, first time I take this crazy guy he makes the highlight reels.
Ichigo groaned but he had to smile as the interview ended. Brian talked a bit to the four off camera and then they were released.
Tatsuki and Orihime smiled as the drivers walked back. "You guys did great there." Tatsuki said as they walked out of the studio.
"You looked so natural." Orihime beamed which got the group to chuckle.
"You think so?" Ichigo asked which got the chipper girl to nod. Uryuu looked at his watch showing it was around noon Central time.
"I think we should grab some lunch before we explore the city some more. We are going to be leaving in the morning for the track.
Andrew's eyes lit up. "I think this calls for a deep dish pizza this city is known for come on." Andrew said as they reached their cars to go get lunch.
Two days later
The group had settled in Indianapolis the previous day with the crew setting up the cars for practice. The times in the morning session for all four teams were respectable but the Stewart-Haas cars were on top of the charts. Red Bull was also dominating and the Ferraris weren't far behind on the charts. Rousch and Kuchiki however were struggling and part of it was due to the tire issues they had been warned about.
When qualifying began Uryuu went out in the second group, Andrew would be in the third group and Ichigo and Chad would be in the fifth. The first group went out and George Schumacher showed why his grandfather's spirit nearly breaking the track record on this configuration. As Uryuu finished preparing for his run Andrew was sitting in the pits. Tatsuki walked over and sat with him.
"Tatsuki who is in my group?" Andrew asked out the blue. Tatsuki happened to have a good memory as she thought about it.
"Let's see I think you are with, Andretti, Garcia, Regan, Mcnish and Johnson." Tatsuki rattled off.
Andrew let out a breath. "Andretti oh boy. That name and this track are intrinsically linked to failure. For some reason in over a hundred years of racing, the entire Andretti clan has won here once. Engine failures, last-second passes, strange incidents you name it, it has befallen every one including the only Andretti to win, Mario Andretti, Marcus' Great-Great Grandfather. I think he would be feeling the pressure of his family's lineage."
Tatsuki was watching him and he had this serious face on. "Tatsuki…if I had failed when I was younger where do you think I would be?"
Startled she didn't know how to answer it. Andrew continued. "I think I know. Probably pushing pencils somewhere. Not getting to meet the Kurosaki family, not meeting you girls and I would probably be watching this race on the couch." Tatsuki stared at him and he looked twenty years older. That faded when he regained his smile. He rubbed her hair. "But I am glad I succeeded, this opportunity is once in a life time. And I thank you for being a part of it."
Tatsuki smiled and giggled. "You and Ichigo are more alike than you realize. Despite your upbringings."
Andrew smiled as he stood up. "Maybe. Anyway time for me to get out there."
Tatsuki nodded and to his shock she kissed him on the cheek.
"Good luck." Tatsuki said walking away. Andrew rubbed his cheek and had to chuckle to himself as he walked towards his car
Twenty minutes later he was in a bit more sour mood. He had an okay time but Marcus was putting curb stomp on the group and was currently shown in second. He watched Ichigo and Chad take the track for their warm-up as the girls videotaped the goings on. They saw Marcus give an interview talking about his performance. When Ichigo came in he was slightly disgruntled at the care as he developed a vibration coming back onto the main track.
The fifth group however gave the race its pole winner. Shawn Newman who had family in the area made his family proud as he took the top of the charts just two tenths off the track configuration record. (Indianapolis has three configurations. The main oval, the F1 track I am using, and the motor bike track. So there are three different records) The time held for the remaining session and he took the pole position with George Schumacher from the Ferrari team taking second and teammate Marcus Andretti was third.
Andrew was walking back to the trailers when he saw a group of drivers talking in an excited tone. He walked over and recognized Rebecca Kirkland, Ralph Hamilton and Raoul Garcia from the Audi team, Michael Busch from Stewart-Haas, Jason Webber from the Red Bull Team and Ikkaku from Kuchiki.
"What's up guys? What are you all talking about?"
Michael decided to speak up. "Well we know this Andretti curse is going to bite Marcus in the butt. So we were taking bets on when that incident will happen and what that issue is? I am betting he won't make it to half way and he will wreck out. Jessica" (blonde red and grey suit) "is saying tire issue, Webber (Brown haired, purple suit) is saying engine and Ikkaku is saying that a bird will get caught in the engine."
Andrew glared at him and then out of the corner of his eye he say the young man walking up and had overheard. He was downcast because he remembered the history of his team and his family.
"I am sick at the sight of you betting on the misfortune of others. Just to spite you here is my bet. $1000 that not only will he make it to the end but he will win."
Raoul laughed. "You have balls of steel rookie. Fine by me I will match that bet. What about you guys?" They all agreed to the bet and Andrew walked away grumbling. He looked up and saw the black haired man they were betting on looking quite surprised at his action.
"Why?" Andrew motioned him to keep going. "Why make that bet? Are you aware of my family's history at this track?"
Andrew smiled. "Buddy it's because of your history that I backed you. I figure your family is due. Well I think since Penske is not here I don't think the curse is going to hit you."
Marcus chuckled. "Thanks I think." He smiled as they separated to go back to their garages.

Sunday May 1st
Andrew woke up and climbed on top of the trailer that housed the team for the weekend. The sun was just rising over the track. He sighed as he turned on his IPod and lost himself to the music. Which is why he didn't notice Ichigo pull up and tap him on the shoulder.
"Morning." Ichigo said with a smile. Calming down Andrew looked over at the sunrise.
"Its impressive Ichigo." At Ichigo's questioning look he continued. "250,000 people can be packed into the stands. The 500 can draw 400 with the trailers and the like. Those stands will be packed today. You don't see it at most tracks we go to. America despite the fact there are other sports like baseball and our football somehow still comes to these tracks. Most of the NASCAR tracks hold 90 to 140 thousand. Daytona is going to be 160,000 in the stands and countless more in the trailers. I guess that's why they like to race multiple races here. You want to know how old this track is the president at the time of construction was William Howard Taft. Yet they still come to experience history.
Ichigo saw the passion in Andrew's eyes. "I guess I don't have the same appreciation for history. But seeing this….shrine to racing I can see people come here."
Ichigo looked over the track. "You know I have always had this weird feeling that when we go to some of these tracks there is something there. Maybe…it's the spirits of those who raced and those who have died here."
Andrew looked at his friend. "I don't know about other tracks…but here I feel it. Anyway, we need to get ready for the race."
Ichigo nodded and they headed back down. Andrew flipped through his songs and selected one and followed Ichigo down.
(Livin' on a Prayer by Bon Jovi. I don't own it and I think this song is appropriate for this)
Andrew was zipping up his suit and looking at his reflection in the mirror. He looked quite serious. He turned to see Tatsuki and lessened his look to a smile.
Ichigo was in his suit getting ready to leave his room as he walked out he saw Orihime. She smiled and held up her hand and he gave her a high five as he exuded his normal confidence.
Uryuu was walking through the garage with Chad near him. They noticed some of the fans were already up and about and getting ready for watching the race.
The crews were pushing the cars to the grid. Looking up they already saw the stands starting to fill. Up and down pit road the crew were also setting up on the pit boxes.
In the booths overlooking the track in the infield they were setting up the pre-show as they rehearsed their lines. The crews were doing a final check of their equipment as well.
The driver's meeting was held and during the meeting, Andrew looked around the room and caught the eye of Marcus who faintly smiled but then went back to his normal dour look. They broke-up and the drivers went to go get ready for the race.
(End Song, Begin opening montage)
A movie projector begins to roll showing the cars from the first Indianapolis 500. "History should never be forgotten. A track that was built at a time when the first cars being constructed was bound to be temporary. But something kept bringing them back." As the video continues the cars change with the times. "Two World Wars couldn't destroy it." The cars continue to evolve and race some blowing up some are in the winner's circle. "Weather couldn't stop it." Rain shortened races are shown. "The times couldn't change it." NASCAR cars are racing at the track. Two different types of open wheeled cars are shown, the IRL and CART. "The track having been around for over a century and half has earned a place where immortals gather every May regardless of division."
(Begin Danger Zone by Kenny Loggins)
The legends here are the cream of all racing. Unser, Andretti, Rahal, Gordon, Johnson, Schumacher." As each name is said a quick flash of each driver's successes are shown. "Now a hundred and sixty years after the first 500, The World Grand Prix makes its mark on a milestone of its own."
"But in a place steeped with tradition there is a battle to become immortal. This is where grudges and team rivalries are settled." Multiple wrecks are shown. It has gotten to the point where surviving is just as good as winning." Multiple wrecks are shown. "That's the thrill of racing. Being out on the edge is where these drivers belong." Tempers are shown flaring on and off the track. When the battle is over only will stand tall. Welcome. To. Indianapolis." At each word a big wreck is shown. At the final word, the chorus sounds loud, as the superimposed track with its name over the track is shown.
(Fox Intro plays)
The camera pans over the track.
"We welcome you to another perfect day for racing here in the birth place of racing. This is Round 8 of the World Grand Prix here in Indianapolis."
Camera pans to Jeremy and Nate as they are smiling in front of the cameras.
Jeremy: Hello to all of those watching around the world and welcome to the ever historical Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Nate this track has history written all over it. No less than fifty hall of famers throughout racing history has won at this track and many of these drivers today are looking to add their name to this track's legacy."
Nate: (Smiles) That's right. My grandfather was Dale was a two time champion at this track. There are seven drivers with family members that have won at this track. But before we focus on the future let's rewind to a wild race last week.
(Begin Montague)
Jeremy: It was a wet race almost the entire time and that may led to some nasty wrecks.
Nate: As we see here the two Audi got loose on the wet track and took each other out. One of the many things that kept coming up was mechanical issues as there was debris flying everywhere. Brakes were failing engines were overheating it was a mess.
Jeremy: As we see here on lap 56 Uryuu Ishida come in with a similar issue to what these drivers were experiencing but the issue was resolved and this paid dividends as he was able to make it one stop and give the rookie Kurosaki team four wins in seven races as we take a look at the standings. Two teammates tied at the top, Ichigo Kurosaki and Andrew Michaels. As we look at the team standing all the good fortune has given the Kurosaki team a comfortable lead. Let's go to the pits with our pit reporter Jermaine Ferguson who is with last week's winner Uryuu
Jermaine: Thanks Jeremy. Uryuu, last week you got the win last week and the team is doing well especially with two of your teammates at the top. How has the mood been in the garage?"
Uryuu (Smirks): The mood has been amazing right now. These Hondas have been great all year we have only had minor mechanical issues and well we can't help the wrecks. But this team has been on all cylinders. We just have to keep our heads together and we can win this year.
Jermaine: I can see that. Hopefully this luck can continue. Thanks Uryuu. He rolls off 27th. Back to you Jeremy.
After a couple more segments Kommamura began the last segment for the Japan.
Kommamura: What a crazy story. Now then onto a bit more historical note. In 1969, Mario Andretti one of the legends of open wheeled racing won the Indianapolis 500. In the 100 years since, no one related to the Andretti family has won at this track. From wrecks, to engine failures, to even rain, everything that could happen to a driver has happened to this family. Now to take the reins of the Andretti racing family is Marcus Andretti who has made the transition from open-wheeled racing to be with the Stewart-Haas team this year. Kiyone is with the stoic looking man as he gets ready climb in.
Kiyone: Thanks Kommamura. Marcus I know you have been feeling the pressure of your family but do you have confidence you can win today?
Marcus: It's always tough to win a race but when you have a family wants to win at this track it kind of adds the pressure. But these Vipers have been great all weekend and we will sit what happens in this race.
Kiyone: Nice to see you have confidence today. He rolls off third.
After the pre-race ceremonies were done with the drivers were strapping in. Andrew was strapping in and looking around. Letting out a breath he saw Kisuke give him one of his signature grins and Tatsuki was smiling. He had to let out his own grin and placed his helmet on.
Ichigo was adjusting his straps as Yoruichi was giving final instructions. Orihime shook his hands and sent a quick prayer for him.
Up front Marcus was all strapped in as he looked to the track. He was so focused that when his crew chief, William Powers tapped him he was startled. Looking up he gave him a reassuring smile.
"Race fans it is time for the most famous words in motorsports. DRIVERS! START. YOUR ENGINES
The roar of thirty-six engines sounded which drowned out the 250,000+ in the stands. As the cars pulled on to the track the crews were undergoing final check of the equipment.
Japan Booth
Kommamura: With a resounding roar the Indianapolis Grand Prix is underway under perfect skies. This race is truly going to be something special I feel it.
Jushiro: (Chuckles) I get that feeling too. Let us look at the race summary. This is a 400 miles race on the 2.6 mile configuration that combines an infield section with the front straight and the first two corners on the oval. (Camera pans over the first turn of the oval) They run in the opposite direction of the oval so that the driver's side is facing the stands, which is not common on American tracks. Anyway, thirty five laps is the fuel window for the 154 lap race. Look for drivers near the end of the race to gamble on fuel.
Kommamura: Three things to keep an eye on this race. Number one is the banking on the ovals. This is one of two tracks that we run that has banking. This is about 9 degrees of banking relatively flat compared to other tracks but the g-forces are still a key issue especially coming off the front stretch and the two oval turns.
Jushiro: Another thing is that everyone wants to win here. This has become known as the Battlefield because of the number of wrecks that has happened. Last five races the average number of finishers is 14. The last thing is the engines. They pump out a lot of horsepower and with two exceptions, at turn one and the double hairpin nine and ten, these turns can almost be taken flat out. That puts stress on the engines and there have been more than a few that gave out.
Kommamura: Let's see if we can find someone to talk to.
Jushiro: Let's try our pole sitter. Shawn this is Jushiro Ukitake. Can you read me?
"Yeah I can here you. What's up?"
"You are leading off from the pole at a track where many of the grandparents of these drivers made their marks. You excited?"
"Yeah I am psyched to win this race especially after what happened last year. This Viper got to be on the pole let's see what happens.
"So you think the Stewart-Haas cars can win?"
"Absolutely, heck Marcus could win if that curse doesn't bite him."
Jushiro: Alright thank you and good luck.
"Thanks."
As they were finishing up the conversation they were entering the final parade lap as the lights were extinguished on the pace car. The cars went around the track again and when they got to turn ten the pace car sped up and went down pit road. The fans were on their feet as the cars approached the last turn of the circuit. They saw the flag man wave the green flag which was signaled by the one at the line. They were let go as they turned down the front stretch climbing the gears. Shawn and Marcus were able to break away before the first turn as the slowed down considerable. Many drivers because of the close proximity to each other had to check up and some threw up smoke as they all made for the confined space. The two teammates cleared the first few turns and quickly opened a gap as they went into turns 5 and 6. A bit further back Ichigo was working around Gin. Behind him Raoul Garcia slid into Jason Vettal although it looked a little intentional. This back several cars up as Vettal went off road slightly. Andrew who was behind them ducked underneath but Chad got the door slammed. Further back the cars were slipping and sliding with opposing teams already trying to wreck each other as they drove through the hairpin section. Up front both Vipers came out of the last turn separated by several car lengths.
American Booth
Jeremy: Lap 1 in the books and the Stewart-Haas Vipers of Shawn Newman and Marcus Andretti in the first two spots. Schumacher is in third and a mess the rest of the pack.
Nate: And from what the first lap showed us I wonder how many cars will have damage by the end of this.
The next lap, lap 3Marcus closed the gap on Shawn and in turn 5 Shawn went a little wide and Marcus got underneath him and passed him and completed the pass before the short stretch. He started pulling away slightly as he navigated the hairpins at turns 8 and 9.
American Booth
Jeremy: New Leader it is Marcus Andretti as they approach the main track.
Nate: These Vipers have been good all weekend as we see one car slow but managed to get into the pit entrance. That is the Rousch number 6 Ford Allen Regan. Jermaine what's going on?
Jermaine: (As Allen pulls in) it is not looking good one of the dust ups knocked something loose and they are going to take him behind the wall to look at it.
Nate: Not even five laps and we have a casualty of this track. This is going to be a long day.
The next twenty laps or so the field spread out a bit. Ichigo had stayed at seventh. Chad was climbing and was now in tenth. Andrew though was dropping now in 18th. Uryuu was in 25th and was rounding turn nine when he felt the car start to vibrate more than it should. Before he could bring the car down pit road, the right front tire blew out. His car slid on the axel and hit the wall completely tearing up the left side of his car.
Japan Booth
Kommamura: The leaders are starting to catch the end of the field as the go into the short chute to turn 8-
Jushiro: And we have trouble. One car in the wall, it's the 66 of Uryuu Ishida last week's winner. The car is coming down the access road and onto pit road, heavy damage to the driver's side of the car. Sparks are coming from the right front looks like a tire blew.
Kommamura: Let's look at it again. This is coming off the access road from turn 11. You're right Jushiro that was a blown tire must have been real quick to not get any time to react like this. Jushiro: But this does set up an interesting spot on lap 26. I would think the drivers would take this chance to change tires.
And indeed that was what was happening as the entire field that was running came down pit road. Meanwhile Uryuu had pulled into the garage and was climbing out a look of disappointment on his face.
"Ishida-san, there you are." Uryuu turned to see Mayuri and Nemu walk up.
"Kurostsuchi-san, Nemu-san, I'm glad to see you." Uryuu said as they walked up. Mayuri took a look at the car.
"Hm…the blown tire messed up the alignment of the car and tore out the quarter panel. Sad to say your race is finished Ishida-san. Fortunately all the safety precautions did their job."
Uryuu sighed. "I figured Kurostsuchi-san but it is nice to know that my car is up to code." He said sardonically. This got Nemu to giggle slightly, which made Uryuu smile slightly. Mayuri took another look.
"I might need to look at the brakes it may have been possible to keep this off the wall though the area where you hit the wall was a really fast spot on the track so that might have negated any arresting momentum. Come on Nemu let us return to the pits. The green flag is about to drop."
Nemu nodded and followed after her. Uryuu sighed. "It seems this love bug as bitten me." He said as he walked back to the trailer.
Back on track
Marcus Andretti was not a happy camper from his position on the track. He was sitting in 33rd place. What happened to him that caused this emotion when he was in first place coming to the pits?"
Flashback five minutes ago
All thirty-four cars still running were coming down. Marcus was starting to complain of a tight race car but not so much to need a drastic change, just a change on the track bar. The service was normal and the changes were being made. They dropped the jack and Marcus sped away managing to be everyone out. But unknown to him at the time, the crew left the jack in the slot used to change the trackbar.
William called to give him the news.
"Marcus…uh I don't know how to tell you this…but we left the wrench in the back of the car.
Marcus was silent for a couple of seconds. Then the inevitable blow up occurred. "YOU HAVE GOT TO BE $&^#* ! ME!"
End Flashback
Per Grand Prix rules if someone takes equipment out of their pit boxes they had to come back it remove the gear and then drop to rear of the field.
American Booth
Jeremy: That is tough luck on the part of Marcus Andretti; the so called Andretti Curse is alive and well.
Nate: If there is any consolation it is still early, but going through this minefield we call a race track is going to be tough.
Back on track Marcus was still venting and Will had finally gotten through to him
"Marcus calm down man it is still early." Will said.
"Don't tell me to calm down you do not have family waiting to be disappointed!"
"I know man…your family wants to win here so much and our crew blew it."
Marcus sighed and finally calmed down enough to speak. "Alright let's see if we can salvage this race.
"That's the spirit. One lap to go till green." Will said as the discussed strategy with Marcus. One lap later they were back to green and the pushing and bumping resumed as more cars found the grass going into turns three and four as Ulquiorra who had the lead the flag dropped it to George Schumacher before turn 8.
Five laps later as the front of the pack was settling down, further in the pack Andrew was still in the middle of the pack about 19th. As he was coming up to turn 11 he was approaching another car, Soi Fong to be exact. Radioing Jinta to let her him know when he cleared her he stayed on her bumper through the next lap. Coming back to the next lap he attempted the pass. He had just been cleared by Jinta and was moving down to complete the pass. Soi Fong saw this and increased the gas and turned car up as he was coming down. This resulted in contact and caused Andrew to lose control.
Andrew was about to sped up when he felt contact and his rear end slide out.
"Oh crud. Not good!" He said as attempted to correct his car. This resulted in him slamming into Soi Fong's car and bouncing off it and sending her car into the inside wall. This caused an over correction and sent him on a collision course with the outer wall.
"Oh $^#!" He exclaimed and he did the only thing he could do. He tucked his arms in and braced for the impact.
Japan Booth
Kommamura: Schumacher is opening a two second lead as he is heading towards turn 5 (Camera pans to the crash showing Andrew's car slamming into the wall and helicoptering across the track and back into the access road)
Jushiro: Oh good Kami a heavy wreck in turn twelve. It's the 91 of Andrew Michaels in the wall and on the pit access road. Good lord what a wreck. The net is down thank goodness but I think he will be feeling that in the morning. (Camera zooms in on Soi Fong's car also a smoking wreck) I think he had help because that is the 002 and she is wrecked as well. (Pans to Andrew climbing out slightly wincing but was able to come out under his own power and waves to the crowd who cheered.)
Kommamura: Glad to see he is okay but I bet he won't be feeling well for a couple of days. Let's take a look at what happened
(Replay begins showing with the wreck already in progress) This is the wreck in progress as he tries to slow down but that trajectory all he could do was hold on.
Jushiro: (In car view of Andrew's car) Let's look from Andrew's car. Soi Fong is in front of him he gets by her and the spotter is telling him he is clear. He may not have gotten a clear signal and well. (Camera cuts out at impact.) Glad to see the SAFER barrier and the HANS device did its job.
Kommamura: (Angle is from the turn 11) Here is in real-time. (Wreck is shown again) Looks like when Andrew came down and attempted to complete the pass he tapped Soi Fong. He overcorrected and hit each other again and sent both of them into the walls.
Jushiro: (Soi Fong's in-car is shown) Here it is from Soi Fong's car. (Pass is shown and then he notices the subtle shift to the left.) I think there may be more to this wreck than meets the idea but without more proof we can't tell if it was intentional.
A few minutes later Andrew was in the infield care center along with Soi Fong. Moment they saw each other they were lashing out at each other.
"If you didn't come down this wreck would not have happened!" Soi Fong yelled from one of the beds.
"You want a piece of advice. Rubbing is racing lady (Days of Thunder reference Great movie btw) And I personally think you wrecked me." Andrew yelled back.
"What was what you just said rubbing is racing?" Soi Fong retorted.
"Lady there is a difference between rubbing and wrecking people now I have to calm our spotter down when I get cleared because I know he thinks he caused the wreck." Andrew growled
Before Soi Fong could retort Dr. Unohana appeared with Nurse Kotestu, "Alright that is enough this is a hospital. Isane check Ms. Fong. I need to examine Mr. Michaels." Isane nodded and checked over Soi Fong and she was released into the wave of reporters. Tatsuki who conveniently was in the medical facility and had captured this saw this exchange. She made a mental note to censor the language she heard. Tatsuki carefully approached the examiners table.
"Ms. Arisawa if you can stay out of the way I will allow you to film this. This is going to be a bit more through than normal. We might have to take an MRI to ascertain any structural damage."
Andrew groaned as they indeed have to take a MRI to see any damage. It came back with a few strains but that was from the whiplash. There were no tears but was warned he would be sore for a while. But Retsu believed he would be fine for the Austria race.
"Be thankful there is an off week Mr. Michaels I might not have cleared you to race."
Andrew sighed. "Thank goodness for small miracles. But it looks like I need a nurse for a few days right Tatsuki?"
This got the black-haired woman to sputter and the other two to laugh.
"Okay I will have you on a pain relieving regiment that I will clear with the officials. I want to check you again before you get in the car at Austria. Ms. Arisawa I will leave to you to make sure that he doesn't strain himself."
The doctor dismissed them and they left the center. After the interviews they walked back to the pits where the race was back under way. They approached the Yoruichi who was still observing Ichigo's race.
"Hey Yoruichi." Yoruichi looked down to see Andrew. "Hey Andrew you alright that was a nasty looking wreck. Kisuke is already checking your car and loading it up." Yoruichi said as the cars came back around. Jinta is noticeably upset though.
"Tell him he was right I just misjudged the timing and the car I was passing came up too quickly." Andrew said.
"Okay I am sure he will be thankful for that. Feel Better." Yoruichi said
Andrew nodded and left the pit just as the caution came back out for Rebecca Kirkland spinning into the barrier at turn five. Andrew sighed. "Well they said this was going to be a battlefield, jeez what are we on.
Tatsuki who was following provided the answer. "About lap 40 you were knocked out on lap 35."
Andrew nodded. "I want to make one stop before we go change and start my confinement.
Tatsuki giggled at that and followed him. They stopped at the pit for Marcus and walked up. Two of the crew members saw this and moved to stop him.
"Buddy you don't belong here, we don't want to have to call the officials on ya." The jack man said.
Andrew raised his hands. "I got nothing to hide. I just want to talk to Marcus for a minute you know."
"And we don't want people talking about his family's curse to him." The fuel man said.
"And if you paid attention to your driver there was a driver that was supportive of him. Just let me talk to him he probably still is mad about the pit stop which if I recall was your fault."
Before more could be said Will turned to the arguing group, "You guys be quiet. Mr. Michaels I am giving you two minutes or I will ask the officials to escort you out."
"Like I said I just want to talk to him. His confidence is shaken and I think he wants a voice that isn't his crew chief or spotter."
Will sighed and to the surprise of the crew he handed over the headset. Andrew thanked him and put it on.
Marcus was sitting in 26th still reeling from the pit stop.
"Will damn it what am I going to do there are too many good cars."
"You can start by losing that quitter's attitude." Andrew's voice sounded over the radio.
Marcus widened his eyes. "Andrew? That you? How are you feeling?"
"I've had worse wrecks. Ever been in a twenty car pile-up at Talladega?
Marcus chuckled. "Can't say I have. But this luck of mine and my family's is getting to me.
"….You want to know a story. A sixteen year old was told his dream was almost gone because his team did not have the money and unless he won the season ending title he would never race again. His last race he raced the race of his life and just as he was about to win it was taken from him. But because he didn't give up, the sponsors gave him the chance to race again.
Marcus smiled. "That driver was you wasn't it."
"I wouldn't be here otherwise. Look this curse is in your head. There is over hundred laps left. You can do it. Don't listen to what the other drivers say. I believe in you, and quite frankly I think many of my crew mates believe in you. But you need to win this for you not your family.
Marcus sighed. "Thank you."
"No prob. Now I got to your crew chief is mad at me and my back is going to be killing me the next few days. Take care.
The radio cut off. Marcus was left alone to his thoughts as he approached turn four on the lap before the green waved.
'Andrew is right. It is all in my head. My heart needs to be in control. And my heart… (he begins speeding up as he goes through turn ten as they start up again) is telling me I have a need. A Need. FOR SPEED'He shouted in his mind as he quickly sped through the gears.
(Begin Danger Zone by Kenny Loggins. It should be obvious I like this song and the film Top Gun. I don't own either)
As the song builds up Marcus is passing the start finish line and passed two cars before turn one. He whips around the first set of turns and sets his sights on another driver
Revin' up your engine
Listen to her Howlin' Roar
Marcus blazed through the cars and made his way up to 23rd
Metal under Tension
Beggin you to touch and go
Ichigo was in the middle of the pack watched as a car got sideways and almost wrecked.
Highway to the Danger Zone
Ride into the Danger Zone
Further back around 21st Marcus had to avoid Jason Vettal and Maria Robertson tangle and crash. Marcus blew a sigh of relief
Headin into the twilight
Spreading out your wings tonight
They are in pit road after another wreck. Marcus' crew is more determined than before as they fix up the car.
She's got you Jumping off the deck
Shovin into Overdrive
The finish the stop and they avoid catastrophe and other cars as they get back on the track. The crew is more jubilant that before.
Highway to the Danger Zone
I'll take you Right into the Danger Zone.
The song enters the solo after the chorus as Marcus continues to fight back to the top ten. He sees another wreck happening
Out On the Edge
Is always where I burn to be
The Further on the edge
The Hotter the intensity
Marcus reacted on instinct and avoided the wreck as he plowed through the smoke coming out unscathed.
Highway to the Danger Zone
I will take you Right Into the Danger Zone
Highway to the Danger Zone
Ride into…The DANGER ZONE
(Fade out Chorus)
The race had wound down to its final thirty laps. Ichigo despite being in the top ten most of the day started to fade back. Chad the other Kurosaki entry was still in top 5 and Marcus was battling him. The field was cut in half from all the wrecks and mechanical issues. They were all getting ready for their final stop.
American Booth
Jeremy: The last round of stops is upon us with only 17 cars still running on the lead lap and Schumacher and Jaegerjaquez are fighting it out as they are coming in for their final stops.
Nate: Schumacher seems to have good jump at the beginning of the run compared to Grimmjow. As we see them take on fuel and four tires here, you remember the pit stop all the way back on lap 26 where Marcus Andretti was forced to go to the back. Look who just cracked the top 6.
Jeremy: How about that comeback? But he was still thirty seconds back as he takes his last stop with a couple of other drivers. And a great stop by him and he is back on track with little ground lost.
Nate: What these wrecks have done has separated the field quite a bit especially with this green flag run. So he only lost about 20 seconds on the leader.
Five laps later Marcus caught George Schumacher who got a bad change on his pit stop. Three laps later he caught Brian Mcnish and his teammate Shawn. He managed to get by Newman in turn 12 on lap 138 and passed Mcnish going into turn 8 a lap later. He was still sixteen seconds back of his teammate Archie. Meanwhile, two other cars got a great pit stop and was climbing the standings. Serenity Gordon was in 12th but by lap 140 she was in fifth with Michael Kennseth in sixth having gotten around Shawn who was battling her for the position. This battling killed their momentum and that meant the only possible driver that could catch the lead two was Marcus but the distance by many observers was too large to overcome. It would take a miracle at this rate.
Japan Booth
Kommamura: Inside ten laps to go and Grimmjow has a three second lead on Archie Stewart and that gap is closing.
Jushiro: If they start to battle then I would keep an eye on Marcus Andretti as his car is fast, he is currently eight seconds back.
In the trailer Andrew was lying back on his bed alone with ice on his back. Tatsuki had gone back to pits after being reassured he was okay.
"Come on you can do man. Nine laps you can do it." Andrew said with a mantra.
On track there were now five laps and Archie had caught Grimmjow in the short chute between turns 7 and 8. Grimmjow began to start blocking him as they came back on to the main track.
Japan Booth
Kommamura: Grimmjow leads that lap but Archie is trying to sniff his way underneath him and he will complete the pass before the turn.
Jushiro: Marcus is closing in fast he is now four seconds back as they enter the infield. If they aren't careful Marcus could steal it.
On track Grimmjow tried to use the draft on the main stretch to catch Archie as they had gotten a little separation. But Archie closed the door sucking up the momentum. All this was doing was making Marcus close the gap. Approaching the white flag for the last lap. Grimmjow tried again. Archie tried to close the door but he miss-timed it and hit the quarter panel as they cross the line and both cars end up in the wall.
American Booth
Jeremy: We are coming down to last lap next flag ends it. Grimmjow is trying again as they crossed the line. Archie comes down and OH NO! They touch both cars sliding and hitting the inside wall. Caution is out on the race the field is frozen and the race is over
Nate: When the caution is out the field is frozen and the Grand Prix is going to review the footage. With the leaders wrecked the scoring monitors should show…
Jeremy: They have just called it and the fans know it too. Marcus Andretti has won at Indianapolis.
When Marcus came around the corner just behind these two cars, he saw the collision as they crossed the line to take the flag. Marcus went passed them as the radio sparked to life.
"Caution is out Marcus. The leaders are wrecked so they need to sort it out…MARCUS YOU DID IT MAN YOU WON! YAHOOO!"
Marcus was stunned as he went into his victory lap around the track. He pulled up to the start finish line after it. He was still in shock as he took down the net.
"I did it." Marcus recovered and then smiled. "I DID IT! GRANDPA I DID IT!" Marcus then went crazy as he unhooked his harness and climbed out. He looked at the crowd who was chanting his name. He raised his hands up and the crowd was deafening. He climbed back in and did a burn out. He drove back down pit road where the pit crews were line up all the way to victory lane. They held out their hands he slapped them as they directed him toward to victory lane. When he saw Andrew he reached over to him hugged him. Andrew replied he knew he could do it.
He pulled up and he was in tears overcome with emotion at something that has been a long time coming. He looked and saw that everyone ready to celebrate his win. His win. He chuckled. 'First win and it's at the track my grandfathers wasted so much on. Grandpa Michael, Grandpa Mario. This is for you.' He though as he climbed out into a shower of confetti and water cascaded on to him.
He climbed down and ran into Jermaine. "Marcus I know you are so overcome so I'll make this quick. What is your mindset right now?
Marcus was almost too choked up. "I can't…even describe it. It's my first win, my family's curse is broke and I still can't believe I won. I mean I thought we were done after the fiasco but we fought back and…wow. These Stewart-Haas Vipers have done so much and I thank them for the opportunity to race today.
Jermaine: Thank you now go back to celebrating.
Marcus nodded and ran to his crew chief to celebrate. Off to the side Andrew was collecting the bets smiling even though he was in pain. He sighed. "Oh well better luck next time. You know this is one race I didn't mind losing. Now time for days of back pain. Ow!" He winced as he walked back to the trailer with Tatsuki supporting him.

Indianapolis Motor Speedway: The granddaddy of them all. This track was built in 1909 using a mixture of materials to pave the track. After nine people were killed including spectators they repaved the track with bricks of which only a yard at the start finish line remains. This race has held numerous races in the past including the Indianapolis 500 which is one of the most famous races in the world held over the American Memorial Day weekend. In this story it still is in the IRL top tier. Other races held here were an F1 United States Grand Prix which had many controversial races, Moto GP races and the Brickyard 400 a NASCAR race held near the end of July. There is another race that is being started up in 2014 called the Grand Prix of Indianapolis. This track supports three configurations, the traditional 2.5 mile oval, the Grand prix track used here and a Moto GP track which is motorcycle racing.
Preview: As they crew prepare for the long stretch run, Ichigo and Andrew attend to business at the Kurosaki-Ishida office. Meanwhile, Tatsuki and Orihime send in their material for their network. They also attend a charity event to help support one of the Kurosaki charities. But danger lurks in the shadows and half a world away a robbery occurs and one of the teams is in jeopardy. What will happen? Find out

Please review. I don't bite I will be happy to explain concepts if you aren't familiar with them. My next update is Journeys of the Dreamer so check that out as well. Also support my pals, Kage Bijuu, Spartan719, Code-Emperor07 and Vanishing Raptor. Lalapie203 could also use some love too. All their stories are good I've even helped on several of their works. Please review kindly or don't bother reading this.
