Ch.12
Jane was terrified about meeting Sara's mother, even though everyone had told her that she had nothing to worry about she still felt scared. Every time she thought about meeting Hannah Shepard the scenerio would usually end with her either in prison or shot dead on the spot, this did not help with her nerves at all.
Without realising it she had been fidgetting and leanning from one foot to the other constantly. Eventually this caught the attention of both Liara and Sara as they looked at Jane, Sara gently put her hand on Janes right shoulder to try and comfort her. Jane almost jumped threw the roof of the Normandy as she felt a hand on her shoulder, she had been so lost in her own thoughts while looking at the ground she completely forgot where she was. Sara smirked as she spoke to Jane " try and calm down ok you've got nothing to worry about my mom, OUR mom is going to love you ok so try and take it easy."
Jane looked at Sara and just nodded her head without saying a word, Liara then stood beside her on her left and put her arm around Jane and brought her into a hug hold. " Believe me Jane, I have met Hannah, and Sara is right she will love you as soon as she sees you, in fact I think Sara might have some competition for her mothers attention now." Sara's head shot up at Liara with a mock glare and pouted," Hey! We're sisters we don't need to compete, when mom gets here she'll love both of us equally right sis " Sara looked at Jane as she says this. Jane just smiled again and leaned her head against Sara's chest and sighed, with that alot of her tension had vanished.
Right then there was a cruching sound in the background, both Sara and Liara looked at each other and Jane stared at the floor with a frown. All three then turned towards the cockpit and stared at Joker who sat watching with popcorn. He looked at each of them while eating his popcorn before he spoke to them," So Commander when is your mother getting here." Sara immediately knew something was up when Joker addressed her as Commander, he knew something that they didn't. Sara narrowed her eyes at Joker and spoke slowly and causiouly to him," she should be here any minute why, what do you know and don't even think about denying it you gave yourself away when you used my rank instead of my name." All Joker did was grin and shake his head in reply, which did nothing but make Sara panic alittle.
Liara knew that something was up with Sara's mother but even her sources were little more then vague about it. All she could gather is that since the GETH had reactivated security around Hannah had increased somehow, however there were no extra personell asigned to her or change in her duties. She did suspect that Hannah was shadowed by stealth agents but again there was no evidence to support that theory. So when Sara asked her if she knew anything she was just as lost as Sara was," Liara do you know what's going I'm starting to feel alittle nervous about this." Liara looked to Sara with a blank exspression before answering " I have no idea what is going on Sara, but I do know that there has been some sort of security measure taken to safe gaurd her. However I have been unable to find out what that measure is, and according to what sources I have left tell me that nothing seems to have changed regarding your mother." This made Sara really start to worry, what was going on? why was there no sign of a increase in security if it had already been confirmed? who or WHAT was suppose to be guarding her. And why was Joker sitting there with a shit eating grin plastered on his face, what did he know that everyone else didn't. Her first feelings of panic and nervousness slowly transformed to suspicion and anger 'What does this little bastard know that no one else does, can't order him because he'll just shutup tight and say nothing, he's lucky he's got vorlicks'. After Sara had her little internal chat with herself she stood up straight and straigtened her uniform.
Jane had no idea what was going on, she tried to keep up with everything but couldn't, although she could feel the tension mounting around them. Before she could say or do anything EDI announced that Hannah had arrived, as soon as Jane heard this she began to panic. However Liara was still holding her and squeezed her side slightly to reasure her, Jane looked to Liara and was met with a warm gentle smile. Liara leaned down to Jane " don't worry you have nothing to be scared of ok", Jane hesitated for a moment and then nodded her head while staring at the floor shyfully. Just then the door opened and there stood Hannah Shepard, when Jane looked at her she thought that it was Sara's older sister. They looked so much alike it was alittle confusing, Jane was so focused on Hannah's looks she didn't realise that she was also being stared at. When their eyes met Jane immediately looked away and towards the ground feeling really small and alittle scared.
Hannah on the other hand was looking Jane over with a critical motherly eye, 'well I thought that my girl would take care of her people alot better, this poor girl looks like she's gone up against a Reaper on her own and barely survived. Well time to step in to the protector role again, first things first though.' Hannah turned towards her daughter and took two steps to be standing in front of her, she raised her hand in a salute and Sara did the same. Hannah then addessed her " Admiral permission to come aboard ", Sara looked at her with her hand still raised and replied," Permission granted Admiral, and it's good to see you mom." Sara and Hannah embraced one another in a warm hug, Hannah just sqeezed her daughter close to her just to make sure this was real. She had been present when Sara had regained consciousness, but still feared it was all a fantasy she had dreamed up. Of course David would constantly keep reminding her that her hard headed daughter was indeed still amongst the living, and if she ever needed proof she was welcome to drop in on him so he could show her all of the 'correspondence' that he was being buried under in his office for Sara. Hannah had a little chuckle at that menory when both women stepped back from the hug, Sara looked at her with a smile and alittle confusion " everythjing ok mom." Hannah just nodded her head and then straightened herself and turned towards Liara and Jane, Hannah smiled brightly as she then embraced Liara. " And how is my brilliant daughter-in-law doing, good I hope is Sara treating you well if shes not just drop me a line and I'll make sure everything is sorted out quick ",L iara just smiled and chuckled while Sara just looked at them with a face of shock. " I treat Li perfectly fine, don't I, I make sure shes always taken care of and perfectly safe." The reply to Sara's little outburst was afew chuckles between Hannah and Liara," Yes, Sara is taking very good care of me and making sure I take good care of myself aswell, thank you for asking Hannah."
While all of this was going on Jane just stood and watched, she wasn't sure if she should even be here right now. However her thoughts were interrupted when she realised that no was saying anything, she looked up and straight into the face of Hannah. She gasped and went to take a step back but stopped herself, she wasn't sure what to do but couldn't seem to be able to move. She felt so small compared to this woman, in a panic she tried to think of something to say but just couldn't come up with anything. The panic must have shown on her face however, Hannah slowly and gently put her hands on Jane's arms and spoke to her in a soft voice. " Hello there, I don't think we've met I'm Hannah Shepard Sara's Mother, what's your name." Jane immediately relaxed and answered Hannah," My name is Jane, it's nice to meet you. I only woke up the other day so I'm new thats why you don't recognize me." Hannah had a gentle smile as an answer to Jane's introduction, when Jane finished Hannah put her left arm around Jane's shoulders and faced her daughter. Hannah looked at Sara and asked her about Jane," So new crewmate then." Sara looked straight at Hannah and with a shit eating grin pointed straight at Jane and told her about her new adopted daughter. " Actually shes my sister, I thought why not I always wanted alittle sibling so why not ", Hannah in reply arched a eyebrow and looked at Jane.
All at once the nervouseness came flooding back with vengence, Jane wasn't sure what to do and so looked at the floor before speaking. With a whisper like voice and stuttering she began," well eve-everyone th-thought it would b-be a good idea i-if I was S-S-Saras sister, f-for my o-own protection." Jane felt so hot and uncomfortable and started to feel alittle light headed, but then she felt herself being squeezed into Hannah's side. She couldn't look up but heard Hannah start to talk," well looks like I missed afew things since we last met, what do you say we catch up on everything. Of course thats after I get to know my new daughter, so you woke up just afew days ago I guess this is all alittle overwhelming to get used to so quickly. Well don'y worry momma's here to look after you now, oh honey when you get the chance bring up something to eat for Jane would you she's just skin and bones, really I thought I taught you better then this when looking after your people. Really I don't know what goes through that head of my daughters (sigh), anyway..." This all took place as Hannah strolled by with Jane in a protective embrace past Sara and Liara, Sara however suddenly didn't know what to say and stood there like one of her fish. Eventually she came out of her stupor and called after her mother and sister," h-hey what do you mean, I look after my people just fine, I'm not that bad I mean..." By this time Hannah had made it to the elevator and was completely engrossed with her new daughter, Sara just stood there with abit of a pout as Liara came up beside her and wrapped her arm around Sara's waist, " she doesn't love me anymore now that she has her new little girl,...it's not fair I came first." Liara smirked and kissed the side of Sara's forehead," don't love I still love ok ", Sara's only reply was a low grunt as she wrapped her arm around Liaras waist and followed her mother and sister.
A.N. I am sorry for the long wait again but alot has happened and I have lost alot og my humour and spirit. I will keep writing I really like where this story is going , so I am not gonna abandon it. Anyway hope you are enjoying it so far until next time.
