Chapter 13
Perseus POV
I followed Aries' footsteps through a series of alleyways and streets until he reached an abandoned building that could be a church. When I entered, the assassin placed a hand on my shoulder and told me to wait here for a second. He would be back after warning the guards, not to attack me. I nodded and waited for his return.
It didn't take long for him to return and we continued on through the hallways of the church to a door. Aries opened the door for me and led me to a huge open spaced room where his followers were waiting inside. I still had my mask on, so none of them could see that I was blind. I wanted to spar with each of them if I could without them holding back.
"Master Aries! Who is this?" A student asked as he came closer to the both of us, judging by the sounds of hurried footsteps coming closer.
"Everyone quiet down and come close." The master assassin ordered as he stepped in front of me. "This is a fellow assassin from Greece, his name is Perseus. He saved me from an ambush by the senators that were going to kill Caesar. I have brought him here to introduce ourselves and make peace so he can know who we are in his own missions, should we run across him again." Aries explained as he rested a hand on my chest.
"Why doesn't he speak or take the mask off?" One asked.
"Beat me in a spar and you will see." I challenged.
"This boy thinks that he can beat me? Master will you oversee the fight?" The student asked.
"Yes I will. In fact, I encourage you all to fight. You can decide between fighting one on one or two on one. I know that he can handle it." Aries said confidently.
"We will fight in single combat." His students decided.
"Why are you facing all of them?" Aries asked, stepping forward when his students left to go to their arena.
"This is all about respect. And once the fights are over, and I reveal that I cannot see anything, they will respect my skills. As they were beaten by a blind man, it will make them work harder, train harder and strive to be better for you. I am doing this to improve both their skills and stamina." I explained as we entered the arena.
Aries led me over to the ring and shouted for the first opponent to enter. I took a stance after reaching behind me to grab one of my swords from my back sheath as my opponent pulled out a sword from her hip sheath.
I kept the blade vertically in front of me as I spoke first. "Your move." I encouraged.
She took a step forward but I didn't move. My lack of movement probably confused her, before she regained confidence and stepped to my right slowly before slashing at my midsection. I deflected the blade with my own as I stepped into her guard. She took a step back and tried to steady herself as I swept her legs out from her and held my blade over her throat as she was laying on the ground.
"I yield." She spoke and I removed my blade, pulling her up with me as I rose to my feet.
"Next challenger." I barked out as I sheathed my sword.
This was depressing, every student I faced could not last past three strikes traded with me. Except for the last one. The guy that I challenged at first. He preferred fighting with both of his swords. "Finally, someone that can fight a dual wielding opponent." He said as he approached the center of the ring. I smiled under my mask and pulled out both of my swords. One angled with my left leg in front, the other resting horizontally under my chin, blade facing out.
"Your move." I said without emotion, beckoning him forward.
"Get ready to taste my blades." He growled at me taking a swing at my head. But instead of moving out of the way, I just held his strike with my right sword. My deflection of his strike seemed to make him determined. His strikes became a whirlwind around me as I dodged and deflected his movements. All I did was play defense, I never took a swing of my own wanting to tire him out.
And I did.
After five minutes of dodging his strikes, my opponent was hunched over catching his breath as I could tell by his quick breaths. I rested my swords behind his neck and in front of his throat. "Are you really tired?" I asked him astonished.
"How…are y-you not…tired?" He asked, still gasping for air. I looked over to where Aries was last standing. "Everyone come in front of me, I have a surprise for you."
A couple of seconds passed where the students knelt in front of their master and caught their breath. He patted my shoulder. "You can show them Perseus."
I nodded and sheathed my swords on my back before grabbing the sides of my mask and removing it from my face showing my blank eyes to his followers. The gasps made me grin a little and let out a chuckle imagining their shocked expressions.
"Y-you are b-blind. But how?" The girl I faced first, asked.
"I was born without sight. But my parents helped me overcome my disability and trained me how to handle any weapon I might come across. My ears and nose have overextended to cover for what my eyes couldn't do. I've been an assassin since I was twelve years old. I am currently eighteen years old." I introduced myself.
"Are you married?" The girl asks.
"Why would you ask that?" I heard Aries ask, seemingly confused.
"It is alright. I'm surprised she managed to catch my ring as not even you saw it." I say gesturing for him to calm down before facing the girl's direction based on her voice. "I was married for three years before some invaders killed her a year ago. I still wear the ring though, that way she will always be with me no matter where I go." I explained.
I felt a voice in my mind asking me where I was and remembered that I had to get back to the Hunt. I looked over to where Aries was standing, "I must return to my home. I'm sorry to cut our meeting short, but I need to get home before it gets too late. Thank you Aries, for inviting me here to meet your students." I said as I laid a hand on his shoulder in farewell before walking out of the arena to find a place to teleport away.
"So how did it go?" Atalanta asked as right before I walked in front of my tent.
"It went alright. I met a group of individuals who call themselves the Brotherhood of Assassins. They are placing themselves in charge of bringing down dictators and corrupt officials around the world." I explained with a shoulder shrug. I then felt a pain deep into my mind that made me gasp in shock as I fell to my knees.
"Perseus! Are you alright?!" Atalanta shouted, waking the other hunters.
I felt a hand on my chin and heard a gasp of breath as blood started to trickle from my eyes. I could feel it make its way down my face as a yell deep in my mind brought me to gasp out a familiar name. "Ivar." I breathed out.
"What?" Artemis asked as she kneeled beside me.
I rose to my feet and ran into my tent to grab all of my weapons and my mask. I walked out of the tent and faced the hunters. "My brother needs me, I will be back as soon as I can." I said before flashing to England.
Wessex
3rd POV
The Great Heathen Army had taken Wessex and was wiping out the rest of Aethelwulf's remaining force. The Vikings were led in four groups, each led by Floki and a son of Ragnar except for Sigurd, who had been killed by Ivar.
Ivar got separated from his troops in his war chariot and was ambushed by a large force of English men. Ivar's chariot had been tipped and he was sitting in front of it screaming at the soldiers in front of him his entire face dripping in blood, making his blue eyes stand out like lightning.
"Nach eil fhios agad cò mise? Chan urrainn dhut mo mharbhadh! Nach eil fhios agad cò mise? Is mise Ivar an Boneless!" Ivar roared out in rage and ferocity. There was an arrow shot at him but it missed. He was making the English army jumpy and nervous with his yelling. (Don't you know who I am? You can't kill me! Don't you know who I am? I am Ivar the Boneless!)
Yes, my brother did his research, and saw the episode as it was revealed. He's liked this show since the first episode came out.
Ivar POV
I could tell that I was unsettling the nerves of the force in front of me with my yelling and I was loving it. I heard a group of men come behind me but they stayed hidden behind a nearby building. I had taken an arrow to my right arm, but pulled it out earlier and kept moving.
Suddenly a figure appeared out of nowhere, dressed in all black and a hood, kneeling in front of me with his back me as he faced the Saxon army.
Perseus stood up on his feet and pulled back his hood showing his blank eyes to the Saxons in front of him. Some started to laugh and jeer at him once they saw that he was blind. I could hear Perseus chuckle mockingly. "Tha mi an dòchas gun tig do Dhia sìos gus am faigh mi air falbh e le m 'fhiaclan fhad' sa tha thu a 'coimhead air do bhràithrean agus do charaidean a bhith air an leagail le ME! Chan eil mi coltach ri do dhaoine beò. Is mise Perseus!" Perseus yelled out.
(I hope that your God comes down so I can tear him apart with my teeth. Just so you can watch as your brothers and friends get slaughtered by ME! I am not like you mortals. I am Perseus!)
Then my brother's body started to shape, I could hear his bones cracking as he lowered onto all fours and fur started to grow onto his body, covering his clothes. I moved back in slight fear at what was taking place in front of me.
My brother had turned into a huge midnight black wolf that stood on its back legs. It faced me with a wide smile and blood red pupils and gnashed his teeth before facing the Saxon Army. It took a deep breath and let a roar so great, buildings swayed and collapsed under the volume.
Some of the Saxons turned tail and ran away at the transformed figure of Perseus. But most of the rest turned tail when he roared at them. He roared again as he charged forward on all fours to the remaining army before shifting back into his normal form, pulling out the swords from his backside and slaughtering through the stunned Saxon force.
When all of the Saxons lay dead, he turned around and faced me with a happy smile on his face as blood dripped down his face making his empty eyes stand out as if he was possessed. He looked at me before facing Ubbe, Bjorn, Hvitserk and Floki and nodding at each of them as if he could see them. He then looked down at me, crouching to be at my level and rested a hand on my shoulder in his stance.
"Hello brother…it's been awhile."
A/N: Alright so my big brother wanted me to put this in here, so here it is. He just saw the 'Assassins's Creed: Odyssey' trailer, and could not stop gushing about it. He's a Greco-Roman era fanatic, always has been since the Percy Jackson book series came out all those years ago. Personally, I thought that it looked cooler than the 'Origins' one that came out earlier this year, but I don't play those games.
But back to his message. He wanted for any of you to comment your favorite AC game, if you have one. And then with the next update, he gave me the name of his favorite one as well, to add in. If you don't play, don't worry, you're not missing much. (My words, not his.)
