Chapter 13 - Time Is An Ass

- 5 years later-

A woman wearing a freshly pressed uniform walked down the dark halls of a very extravagant building. Her heel's clacking echoed with each step she took. She clutched a manila folder to her breast making sure the content inside would not slip out as she made room for a man, whom ignored her, as he passed by. He wore a grey suit; his tie long gone, probably laying on his desk from the long day they were all having. The woman kept walking making sure to look at the names on each door she passed. Her dark green eyes narrowing as she found the one she needed to enter.

Raising a delicate hand, obvious of never having seen a day of actual hard labor, she tapped the glass of the door with her knuckle. A muffled voice from inside told her it was ok for her to enter. She did so quietly making sure the door did not bang behind her. Walking in she kept her eyes down as she handed the folder to a young man at the head of the table and made quick work to find a seat at the very back of the room where she would not be seen.

The young man took his eyes away from the older one that was currently speaking, his wrinkled hands shaking with suppressed anger. Flipping the folder open the man ignored the older one's berating and looked through the papers in-front of him.

"You are draining the treasury the longer we sit here. We must move now before those damn things are completely out of our hands!"

"And how do you suppose we do that, Mr. Bernnin, with out spending any more of your department's money? Did you forget that there are also bribes that need to be made and hush money you all still haven't paid? What about the men that will have to be hired? They won't even dare step foot on the helicopter without knowing that there is some greenery in their accounts first." Another man sitting directly across Mr. Bernnin spoke. The grey in his hair thickening with every word.

"If word got out to InGen about what we are planning on doing what do you think would happen to your little department?" A woman sitting towards the front of the table asked, her long nails playing with the end of her pen. She didn't give the older man a chance to answer before she spoke again. "That is why we need you to cough up whatever you have hidden away in those gold lined pockets of yours. Its obvious you are not spending it on anything for the company anyways. Besides, I'm sure those whores you keep picking up will understand."

The older man looked at the woman flabbergasted. His mouth was opening and closing trying to find something to throw back at her but found none. She smiled at him seeing as how her words had finally shut the older man up. Her attention then turned to the man on the other end of the table. He looked as if he had been asleep through the whole thing but the cigarette smoke blown from underneath his hat told all that he was very much awake. Shadows covered his face only giving enough light to show off the gruff yet well trimmed beard that stuck to his face. He was reclining in his chair, his boots held him from falling as they were placed one over the other on one of the corners of the table.

"Mr. Hristov -" The woman was cut of by a loud annoyed sigh from the man she was talking to, or at least attempted to talk to.

"I was hoping ya'll could settle your damn bickering with out me." He said tipping his hat back drawing the shadows away with it to reveal sharp light green eyes. He took a drag of his cigarette nearly burning the whole crumpled thing before being removed from his mouth to be snubbed out on the table. The action making Mr. Bernnin's brow twitch in annoyance.

"I'm sorry Mr. Hristov but-" The woman tried to speak again.

"The name's Nasos, darling." Nasos said watching a blush rise on the pale woman's cheeks.

"How many men do you think you would need?" She said quickly before he could cut her off again.

"And how much money will be suffice for their pay?" Bernnin chimed in finally finding his voice.

"The only men I need is my men and after all that bullshit that they saw they're going to need a lot more money. They ain't stupid, they know what they are gett'en into." Nasos looked at the man at the head of the table. He had just reached the last page of the papers in the folder. A smile crawled onto Nasos' face as their eyes met as the man closed said folder to toss it to the side.

"Have them meet in Bejuco. Once you receive word from Carmelo you will take the ship and head to the island. We are not taking all of them so make sure that the ones you do capture are as healthy as possible and re-frame from killing them. If you encounter any difficulty..." The man paused hinting to Nasos.

"I shoot 'em down, plain and simple."

"Make sure you log which ones you do shoot down. If they do go ahead with the reserve they will want a head count of every single one alive, so we need to move before hand."

The table groaned as Nasos got out of his chair, his back popping as he stood. "Why not have Bernnin here do that since he's so keen of where his money is going."

"You watch your tongue!" Bernnin snapped obviously offended by such a small jab. "You seem to forget that it was our money that got you out of that prison and it can very well put you back!"

"Mr. Bernnin," The man said sharply a strong warning lacing his tone. Bernnin jumped at the sound of his name and recognizing whom it came from clammed up once more.

Nasos smirked , although he didn't mind the empty threat from the old man, the old dog knew full well that the man that barked at him hated such disrespect. He knew that if anyone was to threaten him then they were also threatening their boss. He didn't remember when they had become close allies during the time he had been set free. It sure as hell wasn't because of the money, he could care less about it. He sure as hell wasn't getting sentimental, God no. However, somewhere along the line they had become close and his boss had started treating him more as a friend rather than a hired gun which he preferred to be. The leeway may have been good but Nasos knew better than to get to close, especially to someone like the man sitting across from him.

"If you two are done then you all may leave. Emily." The man said snapping his fingers at the woman's name.

Emily, whom had been as quiet as she could be got up from her chair in the back and handed him a phone from the inside of her black jacket. She watched as the others left the room as they were told, the elderly man hobbling out a satchel gripped tightly in his old wrinkled hand. When everyone was out she let out an annoyed sigh. Pushing the folder to the side she sat down on the edge of the table in front of him.

"Honestly dear I don't like the way they treat you." She said grabbing his tie to pull him closer to her.

"And what will you have me do? Fire all of them?"

"Hmmn. Not all. Maybe Sandra, I saw her looking at you again. The old cow probably needs to learn that not every dick she sees is her's." Emily explained a haughty look crawling onto her.

"That's the third time this month you mentioned firing her. You know I can't," He explained his hand running along the end of her skirt teasingly, "she is the head of our genetics department. If she were to leave we would be lost. It's not everyday that we get someone who personally studied under Dr. Wu."

"And it's not every day that you get to have someone like me." She said swatting his hand away.

Just as he was about to speak the phone in his other hand rung. The chime bringing both people to look down at who was calling. Emily looked questioningly when she saw the name and realized that it was a rare occurrence for him to be calling at such time of the year. The man answered the phone his other hand resuming its place on her skirt.

"What is it Mr. Edwards?- What?-That's impossible." he pushed himself away from Emily standing up to move towards the window, that was hidden by the thick dark blinds.

"Do you have proof?-When were they taken?-A week ago. Send the pictures to my phone and tell this to Nasos as well. Very well." The man hung up the phone and rubbed the bridge of his brows.

"What's the matter?" Emily asked turning towards him.

"Nothing." The man said turning around to come back to her. Leaning down he gently grabbed her face to plant a heated yet needy kiss on her small lips earning him a small moan from he woman. When he pulled away she tried to follow him but stopped when she felt his thumb rub away the smeared lipstick from her face.

"Pack your bags."

"What? Where are we going?" Emily asked clearly shocked by his words.

"To a park." Was all he said as he moved away from her again to leave her dumbfounded and alone in the room.

The wind was gentle making the forest leaves dance about here and there. The sky above showed signs of rain yet the thick fog that covered the island said that it wouldn't for another day or two. The animals had their guard up knowing that such fog hid their predators well without a shred of hope of ever seeing them until they were literally right under their noses.

A herd of Parasours were hiding in the thick foliage of the island's jungle. They made sure to keep close to one another yet gave each other enough space to forage through the large bushes looking for any fallen fruit. The herds leader was at the back of the group. He stood on his hind legs trying to reach for the branch above him using his tongue, much like a giraffe would, to attempt to grab the leaves that were on it. The females and younger Parasours were not as tall and had given up on trying to reach the high leaves which left more for him. Scooting himself closer to the trunk of the tree the large male stood up once more when he heard a snap of a twig. Suddenly all heads shot up. They looked around quickly trying to find where the sound had came from when another snap came from the center of the herd. All eyes landed then on a young Galliminus. Apparently it would seem that it had been separated from its herd and had started following the Para's. The herd after realizing the cause seemed to let out a sigh of relief and stuck their heads back to the ground once more.

The large male did the same. Turning himself back to his branch he stood back up on his hind feet, unfortunately he didn't get the chance to eat for when he looked up he was met with the large and heavily toothed mouth of a Rex. The smell of decay wafted over the Parasour's face witch only filled the poor creatures panic. It didn't get much of a chance but the short and terrified alarm call it gave sent the rest of the herd running before the male's head was engulfed in the large set of jaws.

The herd, panicking like any normal creature would, pushed and shoved each other as they raced back to where they knew the large predator could not go and that was further into the thick forest. The Galamimus ran with the herd. Its head wiped left and right as it tried to see where the large herd was trying to run to. The gallimimus' body was pushing itself as it ran it's skinny legs making sure not to get caught up on the roots and fallen branches that riddled the ground. Just then another cry rang out and the herd turned left suddenly. The Galli tried to turn as well but a large Para that was running next to him suddenly fell. The Galli had no time to move out of the way and it's small body was caught as the Para landed on top of it. The front half of the Galli's body stuck out from under the fallen Para. It tried to call out to the herd as it also attempted to free its trapped body but the weight of the larger creature held it down. The Para cried out as well, but not to its herd, no, instead it cried in pain and in fear for what had also landed on top of it just then. The Galli looked up to see the cause and panicked even more as a second larger creature stuck its massive claw deeper into the Para's abdomen.

The cries from the Galli caught the attention of the predator. Its massive head looked down at it curiously. It's gold colored eyes watching as to see what it was doing as the small Galli tried its best to free itself. The predator didn't kill the little thing surprisingly. It seemed as if it didn't care as it leaned down and picked up the body of the now dead Parasaur with its mouth.

The Galli scurried up to its feet and watched stunned as the carnivore began to make its way from the forest with its kill dangling limply from its mouth. It watched it disappear into the fog before it decided to move itself. But it didn't get far for as it had barely taken two steps the massive foot of the T-Rex stomped on the little guy as it to walked out of the forest with its kill also dangling from its jaws.

On the other side of the island where the fog was not as thick a tune was being hummed out. It was a but upbeat but also somewhat on the verge of melancholy as it continued for a long while through the foliage. The owner of the humming sat elegantly on the back of a huge bulky Triceratops. Her body was lean yet just had enough fat to make her look healthy and full figured. Her clothes consisted of a pair of tattered and dirt dusted shorts, a long dark leather strip that was wrapped around her chest and shoulders keeping her breasts hidden yet restrained, and lastly a long neckless that had different types of claws and teeth threaded through it. The woman wore no shoes and here long brown hair swayed from the creature's movement along with the breeze that was pushing the fog further into the island. Her skin was California kissed and glistened with the drops that were collecting on it from the retreating fog.

The Trike she rode on was massive. His horns jetted out of his frill but the main two that were in the middle were longer and thicker. Then there were the iconic three horns. Those were as well thick and long however the top right horn had a band that wrapped around the middle of it. A closer look at it, if anyone was able to get that close, would notice that the band was actually a stain in the bone itself rather than it being dyed or made of some other inorganic material. The creature stood a good 10 feet tall and looked very healthy. On each side of its body were two sets of baskets that were carefully tied to the Trike's sides. The baskets themselves held different wild vegetables and herbs. They were full signifying that their day of collecting had gone very well.

The two continued on the moist path they had been following for a good while until they came to a fork. On one side a dirt path that then switched to concrete the other was a heavily worn trampled path that led deep into the forest. The Trike didn't need to be instructed on which to take for it had walked this path numerous times and had always known that this was the direction the woman wanted to go. An so the two continued on. The foliage around them grew thicker as they went. The leaves of the ferns grew outstretched into the path brushing against the Trike sides and the woman's bare feet. Their scratchy leaves made the woman pull her legs up just out of their reach so instead they went for the baskets. They tried to get themselves snagged or tangled in the small wholes of the woven baskets but no matter how hard they couldn't grasp them in time.

It was no time at all before the pair had finally reached their destination. The two entered into a self made clearing surrounding an enormous hollowed out tree. The tree was partly still alive. Many of its branches had to be removed to reduce the risk of widow makers but what was left still made the giant tree look as whimsical and ancient as it had when it was younger. Around the tree was many different things such as: a group of large metal cages that some held several of the island's indigenous deer inside, an in-ground pit that still breathed a light smoke, a clean Jeep that had it's top covered by a small tarp so the moisture from the air would not ruin the interior, and lastly a large cargo frate that was closed shielding its contents from the outside world. The area was very well kept with not a single thing out of place, except for the occasional poo left from inquisitive smaller dinos.

When the Trike finally stopped, by a large pile of hay that was in a long trough, the woman ever so carefully slid herself off of the large creature and then proceeded to untie the baskets from it's body. It was when the woman had taken off the third of the four baskets that a noise from inside the tree caught her attention. The woman smiled recognizing the sound and continued with the baskets as she waited for the creature that was inside to come to greet her. Sure enough not a moment later a large albino raptor came slowly walking out of the whole.

"Did you have a nice nap?" Sara asked undoing the last basket placing it on the ground.

Lillian made a content sound as she followed the worn path that encircled their home. As Sara had predicted when she first received her Lillian had indeed become blind as she grew. It had indeed been a struggle trying to take care of her but as he months started to pass and the years grew on she had managed to teach the young raptor to follow the paths around their new home. In fact it was right around the beginning of their first year that they had decided to pack up and leave the hotel. Sometime along the way a Carnotaurus had taken up residency close by the hotel so in order to protect her growing brood Sara had deemed it time to relocate. It was exactly around that time as well that she had found the Jeep. It made moving out so much easier, however, as time went by the gas started to run out. Now the thing sits idle with the last two gas tanks sitting in the back.

Sara smiled as Lillian came to the very end of the path just a few feet away from her and Hank. She dropped the straps releasing him from them and went over to her daughter. Sara made sure that she made her steps known. Last time she had not done this she had spooked the poor thing and had received a nasty bite as a consequence. She didn't reprimand Lillian for it though for it was Sara's fault and she should have known better. Coming up the last foot towards her Sara reached out her hand and gently placed it on Lillian's flank telling her that that was where she was. The creature turned happily towards her. Using her head to find Sara's hand she followed up her arm until her muzzle bumped the side of Sara's face. Lillian made a sound that Sara had come to know as their greeting noise and so she, as best she could, mimicked the sound as well.

Their sounds were something that Sara had come to know well these past few years. Most of them she understood right away such as 'I need help', 'leave me alone', 'what's this', 'im hungry', or 'hi, lets play'. The others were mostly used when they would go out hunting. They were almost silent gurgling sounds that Sara had somewhat recently mastered. She would laugh when she remembered hearing the saying "You keep hanging' 'round me, baby, you'll start talking' like me." from Chris Brown when her jeep radio still worked. In all reality Sara hardly even spoke anymore. Well, except for when she needed to get after them for doing their usual stupid shit.

Breaking branches in the distance alerted Sara and the others to the far side of their home. Sara, placing her hand on Lillian's neck directed her to move back. Lillian took a good two steps before raising her head up to sniff the air. When she caught on to the scent of whom was coming she darted, following the path, back to the tree and around to where the fire pit was. Her head remained high as she waited for whomever was coming. Sara on the other hand went over to the trough with Hank.

Picking up one of the baskets she dumped out all of the wild vegetables into the trough in front of him. Hank breathed out happily before lowering his head down to get a mouth full of the wild cucumbers and squash. Sara smiled happily as she watched her big guy munch on the good they both helped to gather. Although two of the baskets were to be used to keep the deer alive and fed she always made sure to keep at least one or two saved for Hanks hard work for the day knowing that once he was done eating he would return to the herd of Trikes right afterword's. In fact the only children that were currently not with her were Theo and Mink. After a squabble last year they had decided that staying with Blue would be better for them. Or at least that's what Sara thought. Now she only had Lillian and the three that just stepped into camp.

The ground shook with every step that Tittus took. His massive feet leavening indentions in the moist earth under him. His kill hung limp in his mouth and dried blood covered his neck. Beside him came Koba with his kill as well. He was roughly the size of an Allosaurous now an obvious sign that the scientists had created im as a hybrid as well. His skin and features resembled that of any raptor but his mind and strength far surpassed them as she had found out that night she had fought Blue five years ago. The memory still making Sara tear up.

When Sara had entered her room that night she could not believe what had accrued. Although gravely wounded her son had come back to life. She didn't understand it, but she thanked whatever gave him back to her. The road to recovery was hard though. It took a good two months for Koba's wounds to fully heal and another five before he could properly run again. But every day he got better and every day Sara worked to get him to 100 % again. And now with all that it looks like she cant keep up with him anymore which made her smile for she knew that he was going to be alright now.

The third to enter the camp was Annarose. With head held high and tail swaying to and fro she trotted behind the two males carrying the dead (smooshed) Galli in her mouth.
