"This is the place?" Thea asked once she and Carline arrived at a little house tucked away.
"Yeah according to my sources," said Carline. Both women cautiously walked up to the door and rang the bell.
"Hello, Dr. Morgan?" asked Carline. There was a pause before they heard the sound of something unlocking and the big white door slowly opening.
"Can I help you?" came an old and timid sounding voice.
"Uh Dr. Morgan, I'm Carline Hooper. We spoke on the phone remember?" said Carline.
"Yes I remember, slightly," said the voice, "what can I do for you?"
"I was wondering if we could talk to you about the sharks?" asked Carline.
"Who's we? Who's your companion?" asked Dr. Morgan.
"My name's Thea Anderson. I'm the chief of the town that's been harassed by the sharks," said Thea. There was a bit of a pause before the door closed and the two could hear the latch being undone. Soon the old but still beautiful woman came into view behind the screen door.
"Come in, please," she said opening it for the two women.
"Thank you," said Carline as she walked in.
"Yes thank you," said Thea. Both women stopped and looked at each other for a moment.
"You look familiar," said Kay.
"Yeah I get that a lot," said Thea before walking further into the house and sat down next to Carline on the love seat.
"So what did you want to ask me?" asked Kay as she sat in the arm chair.
"Was it true that you were attacked by a shark while working at Sea World?" asked Thea.
"Chief," said Carline.
"You've heard of that? I thought they were really good to keep that whole thing under wraps," said Kay timidly, "Yes I was there when it happened. In a way you could say I was sort of what caused it by insisting on capturing the baby shark that was born in the park. If I hadn't, then maybe its mother wouldn't have gone on its rampage and done so much damage like that."
"What do you mean you captured a baby shark?" asked Carline.
"I mean my, ahem, my friend and I discovered a baby great white in the park and I thought it would be a good idea to maybe, possibly capture it for mostly study. However they put the poor thing out before it was ready and it was too much for it and it died. Afterwards the mother of the baby started attacking the park mercilessly. It killed a lot of people in the process. If it hadn't been for Michal blowing it up who knows what all it would have done," said Kay.
"Michal, as in Michal Brody?" asked Thea.
"Yes, he was my fiancé at the time. But after the incident we split up," said Kay.
"Wasn't that your father?" Carline asked.
"What?" asked Kay.
"Shh," hissed Thea before looking over at Kay. Kay studied Thea for a moment.
"Of course," she said at last, "Of course you look just like him! That's why you look so familiar. You're really Michal's daughter?"
"Yes," said Thea softly.
"Wow, I'm glad to see he didn't get too obsessed with the shark like your grandfather supposedly did," said Kay.
"Well actually he did, along with my grandmother. They both passed away not too long ago," said Thea.
"Oh," said Kay, "I'm sorry to hear about it."
"Well anyway," said Carline, "Are you sure that the mother shark was really taking revenge over what happened to her baby and not say maybe just acing aggressive over the idea of being trapped in the park?"
"I sometimes wonder that, but, well, the way she attacked and everything, it just seemed like it was more of her getting revenge," said Kay.
"So you believe that sharks are capable of going after people?" asked Thea.
"Well I've heard of stranger things happening before," said Kay.
"But you've been doing a lot of work on the study of sharks," said Thea, "Have you found anything that would suggest that they are capable of it?"
"I have found a few examples," said Kay walking over to one of her bookshelves and pulling a book out. "There was this one famous attack known as Jersey Shore shark attacks of 1916. Four people were killed and seven more were seriously injured. No one knows what kind of shark it was but they were pretty sure it was a great white."
"But I'm that doesn't mean the shark was taking revenge right?" asked Carline.
"Well there have been a lot of other attacks where it was more or less unprovoked," said Kay, "There's still so much we don't know about the great white."
"But they don't take revenge right?" said Carline, "There's got to be a reason why these sharks are attacking the town?"
"I can't say for sure," said Kay, "I'm sure it'd be different if I were to see an actual attack."
"Would you be willing to come back with us?" asked Thea. At that suggestion Kay looked mortified.
"No thank you!" she said, "I wouldn't wish to ever go near the ocean and sharks at all!"
"But you just said," Thea started to say.
"I know, but I can't do that! I just can't!" said Kay, "I think you should go!"
"But I had a few more questions for you," said Carline.
"Go please!" said Kay opening the door. Both women got up and headed out fast.
"Can I call you later?" asked Carline.
"We'll see," said Kay. As Thea passed her however Kay grabbed her shoulder. "Thea I can't say for sure if what these sharks are doing is considered revenge but I will say this try not to get too obsessed with them. It won't be good for anyone."
"Thanks I'll remember that," said Thea.
"Well that was a big waist of time," said Thea as she and Carline drove home. To her surprised there was no response. She looked over and saw Carline looking over some more information.
"What's that?" she asked.
"Just some information I was hoping to discuss with Kay. It's mostly with the whole first attack. You know your dad was attacked during that time as well?"
"Yeah I heard that," said Thea, "Some poor bloat got it instead and it put my father in shock." She looked back at Kay's house.
"Just let it go Thea, this maybe something we should just focus on our own. Besides if what you say is true, that sharks are going after people that killed other sharks in the past who's to say they won't target her?" Carline said.
"That's a good point," said Thea as she got back out of the car.
"Wait what?" said Carline as she fallowed.
"If we have her with us, we can really start to figure out if the sharks are out for revenge," said Thea heading back to Kay's house.
"What no, we can't do that!" Carline said as she tried to pull Thea away, "You're talking crazy!"
"Look, just trust me," said Thea as she knocked at the door.
"Yes?" said Kay opening the door, "Did you need something else?"
"Yes I need you to come with me," said Thea as she pulled Kay out and handcuffed her.
"Wait what?" asked Kay.
"You strike me as someone who looks an awful like the female stalker we've been having to deal with in and around our little town," Thea explained as she led Kay to her car.
"But, I'm in your jurisdiction!" Kay insisted as Thea got her into the car.
"Want to bet?" said Thea.
"Nick?" Nick heard a woman ask coming up to him, "Is there anyway you can let me and some of the girls head out on my dad's boat?"
"No Sally, the chief has ordered the all boats are to remain at the docks until further notice," Nick muttered. He had to have repeated that whole saying thousands of times today alone.
It was getting tiresome. If hadn't been for the fact that he had seen the way the sharks attacked first hand he had gone ahead and allowed the people to go. But he wasn't about to let any blood on his hands.
"But I promised my friends we'd get to go out on it!" Sally pleaded.
"Did you also promise them to become shark bait?" asked Nick.
"Well why is Royace and the others allowed to go out?" asked Sally pointing over to where Royce and a bunch of other fishermen were loading up their different boats.
"What, Royace!" Nick shouted as he run towards them, "Royace, you and the others just get off the boats now! The chief has ordered no boating!"
"Until those sharks are taken care of," said Royace, "That's what we're going to do Nick, we're going to take care of the sharks. We can handle it."
"No, no I can't allow this!" Nick insisted.
"You're not the chief," said Royace, "She's not here. So step aside Nick."
"Royace I'm warning you! You go out there you might as well not come back because you're going to be in so much shit with the chief when she finds out!"
"Well then I better come back with three huge sharks then?" Royace said as he kept starting up his boat. All around him Nick could hear the other boats starting up and heading off as well.
"Royace, don't!" Nick tried to warn again, but it was no use.
"Damn it!" Nick muttered as the boat all sailed away.
