Melissa's POV
I woke up the next morning due to my scar hurting. I even woke up before Hermione and she is usually that drags me out of bed. I got up and got ready for the day. After I got in my school uniform and went down to the common room to see my favorite twins. They were sitting on the couch. I sneeked up behind them and hit them in the back of the heads then I ducked behind the couch so they couldn't see me.
"What the heck?!" They asked. Then they turned around to look for the culprit that hit them in the head. I was doing my best to hold in my laughter.
"I could have sworn that someone hit me in the back of the head." Fred said.
"Me too Fred." George said. They shrugged their shoulders then went back to talking. I then got up and them in the back of the head again this time I ran to the portrait. I turned around to see Fred and George looking a little mad at me.
"Good morning boys!" I laughed.
"Melissa!" They shouted. I ran out of the common room laughing with Fred and George on my tail. I almost made it to the great hall when i was lifted off of the ground.
"So little Mel thinks she can hit us in the back of the head huh? What should we do to her Georgie?" Fred asked his twin.
"Hmm what should we do with you?" George asked while looking at me. I couldn't help, but smile. I can't believe the day after tomorrow we have to leave Hogwarts for the summer holidays. I am gonna miss hanging with these two.
"How about I tell you guys do nothing and I will tell you guys something." I offered.
"What's that?" They asked me.
"I scared Malfoy during our detention last night." I said while smirking. We all laughed our butts off. We then went to the breakfast. Then we went off to take our end of the year exams. I found the exams rather easy and fun. Now Harry, Ron, Hermione and I are heading down to Hagrid's hut. Harry and I are rubbing our scars on the way there.
"I've always heard Hogwarts' end of the year exams were frightful, but I found that rather enjoyable." Hermione said.
"Speak for yourself. All right there, Harry, Melissa?" Ron asked us.
"Our scars they keep burning." We said.
"It's happened before." Hermione said.
"Not like this." I said.
"Perhaps you two should see the nurse." Ron suggested.
"I think it's a warning. It means dangers coming. Uhh!" Harry said then we he rubs his scar, so do I.
"This is going to be a pain until we solve this mystery." I said. Harry nodded then his realization face showed up. Then I just realized the same thing.
"Oh. Of course!" Harry said. Then we started hurrying to Hagrid's hut.
"What is it?" Hermione asked.
"Don't you think it's a bit odd that what Hagrid wants more than anything is a dragon, and a stranger shows up and just happens to have one?" I asked. Then we see Hagrid outside his hut playing the flute.
"I mean, how many people wander around with dragon eggs in their pockets? Why didn't we see it before? Hagrid, who gave you the dragon egg?" Harry asked Hagrid. Hagrid stops playing his flute and looks at us.
"What did he look like?" I asked.
"I don't know. I never saw his face. He kept his hood up." Hagrid answered.
"The stranger, though, you and he must have talked." Harry said.
"Well, he wanted to know what sort of creatures I looked after. I told him. I said, "After Fluffy, a dragon's gonna be no problem."" Hagrid said.
"And did he seem interested in Fluffy?" I asked.
"Well, of course he was interested in Fluffy! How often do you come across a three headed dog, even if you're in the trade? But I told him. I said, "The trick with any beast is to know how to calm him. Take Fluffy, for example, just play him a bit of music and he falls straight to sleep."" Hagrid said. Then the four of us all gasped. Oh no this is not good.
"I shouldn't have told you that." Hagrid then said. Then the four of us took of to McGonagall's classroom.
"Where you going?! Wait!" Hagrid tried calling us back. We just kept running until we reached McGonagall's class room. We ran up to McGonagall who was sitting behind her desk.
"We have to see Professor Dumbledore, immediately!" Harry and I said. McGonagall gave us all a look.
"I'm afraid Professor Dumbledore is not here. He received an urgent owl from the Ministry of Magic and left immediately for London." McGonagall told us.
"What?!" I asked.
"He's gone?! Now? But this is important! It's about...the Philosopher's Stone." Harry said. McGonagall looked at the four of us in shock.
"How do you know..." McGonagall started.
"Someone's going to try and steal it." I said while interrupting McGonagall.
"I don't know how you three found out about the stone, but I can assure you it is perfectly well-protected. Now would you go back to your dormitories? Quietly." McGonagall told us firmly. We exit the classroom walking to the Gryffindor common room.
"That was no stranger Hagrid met in the village." I said.
"It was Snape, which means he knows how to get past Fluffy." Harry said.
"And with Dumbledore gone..." Hermione started but stopped because Snape appeared behind us. Harry and I glare at him.
"Good afternoon. Now, what would four young Gryffindors such as yourselves be doing inside on a day like this?" Snape asked us.
"Uh...we were just..." Hermione tried to explain while Harry and I still glare at the potion teacher. I don't think he is all that bad, but it is just his attitude he has to fix and the fact that he is trying to steal the stone for Voldemort.
"You want to be careful. People will think you're..." He sees me and Harry glaring at him. "up to something." He said then he walks away.
"Now what do we do?" Hermione asked us.
"That my dear friend is a easy thing to figure out." I said. Then I looked to my brother and we both nodded.
"We go down the trapdoor. Tonight." Harry said. We all nod then we go to the common room. After dinner we all went to our dormitories. Then when we made sure everyone was asleep. We all met in the common room. We begin to walk our way to the portrait when a croak of a toad stopped us. We turn to see Trevor on the arm of the armchair.
"Trevor." Harry said.
"Trevor shh! Go, you shouldn't be here!" Ron said. Then Neville appears from behind the chair.
"Neither should you. You're sneaking out again, aren't you?" Neville asked us. Oh no if he tells we are in deep trouble.
"Now, Neville, listen. We were..." I tried reasoning with him.
"No! I won't let you! You'll get Gryffindor in trouble again! I-I'll fight you." Neville said while standing up and putting his fist up ready to fight us.
"Neville, I'm really, really sorry about this..." Hermione said. Then she pulls out her wand and points it at Neville.
"Petrificus Totalus." Hermione said. Then Neville freezes up and falls backwards. I winced as a he hit the floor.
"You're a little scary sometimes...you know that? Brilliant, but scary." Ron said to Hermione.
"Ron never underestimate the power of girls." I said. He nodded.
"Let's go. Sorry." Harry said as he past Neville.
"Sorry." Hermione said to Neville then pat him.
"Sorry Neville, but nice job standing up to us even though we are your friends." I said as I past Neville.
"It's for your own good, you know." Ron said. Then we all went under the invisibility cloak and head to the third floor corridor. We walked in the door Fluffy was behind. I saw Fluffy sleeping.
"Wait a minute...he's..." Ron started then the cloak comes off of us because of Fluffy's nose breath. "Sleeping." Ron finished.
"Of course he is a sleep." I said hearing the music being played.
"Snape's already been here. He's put a spell on the harp." Harry said.
"Uh. It's got horrible breath!" Ron said. I rolled my eyes.
"We have to move its paw." Harry said. We nodded and move the dog's paw from the trap door.
"I'll go first. Don't follow until I give you a sign." Harry said. I hear no music playing.
"If something bad happens, get yourselves out...Does it seem a bit...quiet?" Harry asked. I looked at Fluffy he was starting to wake up oh no this is not good, not good at all.
"The harp. It stopped playing." Hermione said. Fluffy then drools on Ron's shoulder.
"Ew! Yuck! Ugh." Ron said. Then they look up to see Fluffy growling at us.
"Jump! Go!" I said. We all started jumping through the trap door and landed on something vine like.
"Whoa. Lucky this plant-thing is here, really." Ron said. Then the plant started wrapping itself around us.
"What's going on?" I asked.
"Stop moving, the three of you. This is Devil's Snare. You have to relax. If you don't, it will only kill you faster." Hermione said. Oh that is lovely to know. I stayed calm after what Hermione said.
"Kill us faster?! Oh, now I can relax!" Ron said. I started to sink through the vines at the same time as Hermione and we both fall to the floor below.
"Melissa! Hermione!" Ron and Harry shouted.
"We are okay! Do what Hermione said and relax!" I shouted up to my brother and Ron. Harry must have listen and relaxed because he fell right on top of me.
"Ahh! Harry!" Ron shouts.
"You okay?" Hermione asked us.
"Yes Hermione I love cushioning my brother's fall." I said sarcastically. Harry got off of me.
"Sorry sis." Harry said then he helped me up.
"It is okay." I said. We still hear Ron screaming instead of relaxing.
"Help!" Ron screams.
"He's not relaxing, is he?" Hermione asked us.
"Apparently not." Harry said.
"We've got to do something!" I said.
"What?" Harry asked.
"Uh! I remember reading something in Herbology. Um Devil's Snare, Devil's Snare,it's deadly fun...but will sulk in the sun! That's it! Devil's Snare hates sunlight! Lumus Solem!" Hermione said as she point her wand to the devil's snare. The devil's snare squealed and dropped Ron. Ron gets up and looks at the devil's snare.
"Whew. Lucky we didn't panic!" Ron said. Harry and I looked at him.
"Lucky Hermione pays attention in Herbology." We tell Ron. Ron just shrugged his shoulders. Then we hear a sound coming from the next door.
"What is that?" Hermione asked.
"I don't know. Sounds like wings." Harry said. We then enter through the door and saw what we thought were birds, when they are actually keys flying in the air with a broom in the middle.
"Curious. I've never seen birds like these." Hermione said.
"They're not birds." I said.
"They're keys. And I'll bet one of them fits that door." Harry said while pointing to the door. Ron runs over to the door and tries to unlock it. Hermione and I went over by Ron.
"Alohomora! Well, it was worth a try." Ron said. I rolled my eyes/
"Ron why try a spell when you see a lot of keys in the air?" I asked him. He shrugged his shoulders. I laughed.
"Ugh! What're we going to do? There must be 1000 keys up there!" Hermione said. Then Ron looks at the key hole.
"We're looking for a big old fashioned one. Probably rusty like the handle." Ron told us.
"There! I see it! The one with the broken wing!" Harry said while pointing to the key with the broken wing. He then looks at the broom. I know what he is thinking. He looked at me for a second and I nodded, he looks back to the broom.
"What's wrong, Harry?" Hermione asked Harry.
"It's too simple." Harry answered. Ron tries to encourage Harry.
"Oh, go on, Harry! If Snape can catch it on that old broomstick, you can! You're the youngest seeker in a century!" Ron tells Harry. I agree with Ron on this.
"I know you can do this Harry we believe in you." I said. Harry nodes and then gets on the broom, then all the keys came after Harry. Crap!
"This complicates things a bit!" Ron said.
"You think so!" I said. This is so Madame Hooch's protection. Harry pushes off the ground while trying to get to the key we need. Once he grabbed the key he flew down near us.
"Catch the key!" Harry said. He flew by and threw the key. I jumped and caught the key. We begin to open the door.
"Hurry up!" Ron tells me.
"I going fast as I can!" I said then I got the door open. Ron Hermione and I went through the door, then Harry follows in with the broom. We shut the door and all the keys that were after Harry hit the other side of the door.
"Nice flying bro." I told my brother while we walked up to a table with potions on it. I have a feeling this is Snap's protection.
"Ugh! how are we suppose to get past this!" Ron and Harry said.
"Leave this to me." I said. I went to the table and read the riddle and I figured it out. I took the two potions that we needed. We each took a drop of the potion for us to move forward. As we walked forward it was starting to get creepy.
"I don't like this. I don't like this at all." Hermione said referring to the broken pieces on the floor.
"Where are we? A graveyard." Harry said. Ron step ahead of us for a second then the flames lighted of the room.
"This is no graveyard. It's a chessboard." Ron said. Oh great!
"There's the door." Harry said. We started heading across the board to the door, but the pawns pulled out their swords stopping us. We jumped back. This is going to be fun isn't it?
"Now what do we do?" Hermione asked.
"It's obvious, isn't it? We've got to play our way across the room. All right. Harry, you take the Bishop's square. Melissa, you will be the queen. Hermione, you'll be the Queen's side castle. As for me, I'll be a knight." Ron said. We all then took our places. Funny how Ron tells me to be the queen when I am the pranking queen.
"What happens now?" Hermione asked. Ron get's on the horse.
"Well, white moves first, and then...we play." Ron said. Then a white pawn moves to a space on the board.
"Ron, you don't suppose this is going to be like...real wizard's chess, do you?" Hermione asked Ron. Ron studies the board.
"You there! D-5!" Ron tells a pawn. The pawn moves to the said space. Then the white pawn brings out it's swords and smashes the black pawn. We all jump.
"Yes, Hermione, I think this is going to be exactly like wizard's chess!" Ron answers Hermione question. Ron Keeps playing and the white queen smashes another black piece. Then it turns to us. Ron and Harry study the game.
"Wait a minute." Harry said.
"You understand right, Harry. Once I make my move, the Queen will take me...then you'll be free to check the King." Ron said. My eyes widen. He better not be thinking on doing what I think he is going to do.
"No, Ron! No!" Harry said.
"What is it?" Hermione asked.
"He's going to sacrifice himself!" I said. Hermione's eyes widen then she looks to Ron.
"No, Ron, you can't! There must be another way!" Hermione said. Ron closes his eyes then looks at Hermione.
"Do you want to stop Snape or not? Harry, it's you and Melissa that has to go on. I know it. Not me, not Hermione, it has to be you two." Ron said. Harry and I nodded.
"Knight...to H-3." Ron said. His horse moves to the said space then stops
"Check." Ron said. Then the white queen moves to Ron and stabs the horse. Ron screams and falls to the floor unconscious.
"Ron!" Harry and I shout. Hermione tries to move towards Ron.
"NO! Don't move!" Harry told Hermione.
"Don't forget, we're still playing." I reminded Hermione. She moves back. Harry moves in front of the white king.
"Checkmate." The king drops his sword. Then we all ran to Ron.
"Take care of Ron. Then, go to the owlery. Send a message to Dumbledore. Ron's right... Melissa and I have to go on." Harry told Hermione.
"You'll be okay, Harry and Melissa. You both are a great wizard and witch, you both really are." Hermione said. I raised an eyebrow at her.
"Seriously Hermione you are better." I said.
"Not as good as you." Harry told her.
"Me? Books and cleverness? There are more important things. Friendship, and bravery. And Harry, Melissa, just be careful." Hermione said. Harry and I nodded then we went through the door. When we went down the stair we saw a figure standing in front of the mirror and I can tell you one thing it wasn't Snape.
