CHAPTER 13: CONFRONTATION TIME?

When the mind wonders it keeps a person confined within their thoughts. Nothing else matters other than their thoughts. When the mind wonders too much the worry, the anger and the anxiety seeps through in such a way that it's hard to break out from the trance. And that is what was happening to Kendall. The worry, anger and anxiety were so heightened he truly believed he'd be able to break the hand cuffs apart.

He felt more suffocated within his thoughts than he did within the walls of the cells. There were so many things he wanted to say but it was impossible trying not to flip out on the police.

Kendall sat in the cell wondering how things had gotten to this point. Cassidy had dropped to the floor and next thing you know he'd been locked up for possessing some white powder – which the police were identifying – and for 'assaulting' an officer.

Bullshit – he thought to himself.

He'd never been in contact with drugs in his life and he sure as hell knew none of his friends were either. He knew Cassidy had enough to deal with in her life and she would never touch such things. And so it was all just a mystery to him.

"Kendall Knight?" A voice echoed in through the small box of the cell door.

"Yea?" Kendall lowly mumbled back.

The door opened and there stood the officer from hell; his hands folded on top of his chest.

"Come with me." Leroy smugly smiled and Kendall did as he was told to prevent from getting into anymore trouble.

He knew his mom was probably already informed about it and he wasn't ready to receive the disappointed glare from her.

Leroy took Kendall through the corridors into a room where he recognised familiar faces. He sighed internally, happy to see his best buds.

"Stay in here. We'll get you out when your mom and Steve arrives."

"Wait, why is Steve coming?" He sceptically asked.

"You drugged his daughter. I'm sure he's got a few things to get off his chest." The smile that crept on Leroy's face told Kendall that things were going to get ugly fast. He closed the door behind him leaving Carlos, James and Kendall in peace.

"What the hell was that about?" James sat up from his chair and leaned his elbows on his knees: his hands still handcuffed. James had been questioned and already dealt with the officers. Much to his surprise he wasn't in a lot of trouble. It was just a procedure to scare the teen.

"Remember how I told you Cassidy's uncle's a police officer. Well that's Uncle Leroy." Kendall harshly slouched onto his chair staring up at the ceiling. He had a feeling that if Leroy wasn't in his uniform, heck, if he wasn't around the police station, Kendall would have gotten treated a lot differently than he was being treated at the moment.

"You never told us this." Carlos shrieked. His hands also still cuffed.

"Her uncle's an officer? Well it all makes sense now!" James huffed and slouched back on to the chair. Kendall looked down at his feet hoping the solutions to all his problems would miraculously appear. But he had no hope.

The silence was killing Carlos. He'd never been in a situation where he got arrested. He'd gotten into trouble before but never where the police got involved, "You know, my dad already saw me in here and he's not letting me out until his shift finishes. I'm in so much shit, he even gave me the 'I didn't raise you like this' look."

James nodded, "He didn't look to happy with me either. I don't even know if my dad's going to come get me."

"When my mom sees me like this... in here... shit's going down." Kendall looked to his friends and each of them were as worried as he was.

After a moment of silence, James' focus went back to Kendall, "So that's Uncle Leroy?" he muttered, "A dick from what I can see."

"Steve's already got him thinking I'm some bad influence on Cassidy. Does it look like I fucking take drugs?" Kendall frustratingly shook his hands attempting to pull the cuffs apart somehow.

"As James said, a dick. Have you gotten any news about Cassidy?" Carlos asked in worry.

"Nothing. They won't even let me call anyone. I don't know if she's in the hospital or not. I fucking hate this!"

"I think some weird shit is going on. This isn't just a coincidence." James curiously said. He'd thrown many parties before and never had there been any drug use or activities going on.

"I don't know man. I just hope she's alright..." And with that being said they fell into a silence. Each of them lost in their own thoughts.

"This might make a good story one day though." James suddenly uttered. "Who'd ever thought you'd be arrested for carrying drugs, or me being in here fo-"

"We actually knew you'd be in here one way or another." Kendall chuckled receiving an offended glare from James.

"Excuse me?" He then looked at Carlos who looked down sheepishly, "Did you think this too?"

"Yeah, kinda. Only because we knew one day you'd throw a party so crazy they'd have to take you in." He spoke defensively hoping James would fall for it.

"Well I guess that happened." James shrugged and quietly laughed at the outcomes of the day, "Logan's never going to let me throw a party for him ever again is he?"

"Don't count on it." Kendall lowly laughed which immediately faded. Both Carlos and James could see how much he'd been stressing himself out.

"Dude, you've got to stop worrying." James sat up again and looked at Kendall with seriousness.

Kendall looked up at his friends and half-smiled, "It's kind of impossible at this stage."

"You and Cassi have got to get away from everything." Carlos suggested. But he knew the hopes of that were very slim and he knew Kendall knew that too.

Before any of them could respond the door to the holding room opened. One by one they looked to the door hoping it was their key to freedom.

"James?" Instantly, James looked up and was slightly shocked to see him actually arrive. He was relieved for a split second. But that disappeared, "Come on, we're going home." His words were smeared in anger, and disappointment. James knew Dan wasn't going to let this pass.

"Hey Mr. Diamond," Kendall and Carlos quietly muttered ashamedly. Dan knew they were good kids, but he'd been expecting something like this from James for a long time.

"Hello boys," Dan disappointingly half-smiled, "I'll see you both later." He left the room and James followed out.

"See you both in school." He muttered under his voice and Carlos and Kendall waved, but were limited because of the cuffs.

Dan and James walked out to the reception area of the station. Dan filled out a few forms before James could be released, legally. The officer un-cuffed James and he massaged his wrist. He was let off on a warning as was Kendall and Carlos.

As James waited he saw a panicking Jennifer race through with Logan and Jack following in behind.

Logan instantly saw James and frantically walked over, "Is everything okay? What did they say? Where are Kendall and Carlos?"

"Slow down… everything's fine. We just got a warning. And Kendall and Carlos are waiting for their parents. I think for Kendall, things might be a little more serious." James whispered hoping Jennifer wouldn't hear them. Logan had gone to Kendall's house with Jack after receiving a concerned phone call from Jennifer. Jack drove her to the station and he was willing to help at any cost.

"Mama Knight is pissed off. But I don't think at Kendall." Logan moved James away from the parents and let them discuss what was going on.

"She shouldn't be pissed at Kendall. That Leroy guy seems fishy." James sceptically informed Logan.

"Leroy?"

"Yeah, Cassidy's uncle." James worriedly spoke, "How'd your mom take all this?"

"Explains everything now," It finally made sense to all of them why Cassidy was so against the police. There'd be no way Steve would get done for if he had a brother that was a part of the force, "Dude, my mom didn't believe it at first. Until dad came and dropped Maya off and they both talked about this all... without arguing."

"At least they weren't arguing, right?"

"It's a start." Logan was slyly relieved his parents were civil in moments like these. If they were still arguing with each other then things would've gotten bad quickly.

"How's Cassidy?"

"She's still unconscious. Her mom came and took her home, dad and I've been checking up on her. Whatever was in her drink knocked her out pretty hard."

"I hope Steve's not at home. Just hope she's going to be okay. Is Maya okay?"An officer handed James his jacket, watch and his phone.

"Yeah, she's just a little shocked, but she's home." Logan got out his phone and sent a quick message before putting all his attention back on James.

"Good to know." He stared at Logan with a brow raised and his hands in the pocket of his jackets. He grinned at Logan mischievously, "who you texting?"

Logan grinned back and his cheeks were slowly blushing, "Get out of here." He pushed James out of the way making his way to the parents.

"You're going to have to tell us. So why not start with me?" James chuckled and straightened himself up. He cheekily grinned but Logan rolled his eyes at him.

"Because you got us into this mess," He put a hand into the pocket of his jean. Dan said his bye to the other parents and walked off to his car.

"You loved it, admit it. Anyway, see you tomorrow Bro." James followed Dan out the station into his car. Neither of them spoke a word to each other. To James, it was the usual behaviour. Dan didn't seem to care so why should he.

The car ride back home was too silent. Yes they both were not entirely fond of making conversation with each other, but the tension between them was never so intense. James tried to not let it bother him but it was bothering him. As for Dan, he didn't know what to say to his son that would make the situation better. He was angry that's for sure. But he was more helpless and torn. Moments like these were when Dan needed Brooke around the most. She always knew her way around James.

They pulled up to the drive through of the house and Dan's fury was rising when he saw the state of the front lawn. James knew it was his duty to clean up. At the end of his parties the other guys would always stay back to help him clean up but this was all on him.

Dan got out of the car and slammed the door shut. He furiously stormed up to the house and opened the door which revealed a disastrous mess. James flinched when he slammed the door, and slowly got out. He still chose to ignore Dan's behaviour.

Dan aggressively grabbed a trash bag and stuffed it with cups, potato chip packets, bottles and cans.

"The least you could do is keep the damn house clean." Dan muttered in anguish, clearly directed at James.

"'Cause you're always home, right?" James scoffed, not entirely directed at Dan.

"At least I'm not the one that got my ass arrested. What were you thinking?!" Dan suddenly yelled, causing James to flinch. "Just because I'm not home doesn't give you the right to mess the house like this. Or even throw a party!"

James didn't say anything. He continued picking up the rubbish letting Dan continue.

"Do you ever think about anyone else but yourself? For fuck sake James! Get you damn act together!" He looked at James agitatedly waiting for him to reply.

"You're acting like I get up to shit like this every day!" James furiously picked up the rubbish forcing it into the trash bag. He refused to look at Dan.

"You might as well be. What the hell were drugs doing in my house?!"

"I had nothing to do with that or the drinks, so before you blame me get your facts straight!"

"I'm working my ass off to keeping this company alive for your mother and this is how you ruin things! You are ruining my house, the company and this family!" He spat out in a tone that James had never heard before. And quite frankly he had enough of Dan's bullshit and him playing innocent.

"What family?!" James stopped what he was doing. He looked directly at Dan; eyes stinging with anger, "We were never a family! The day you chose the damn company over mom was when you lost this family!"

"You don't know what you're talking about James. I was doing what was best for the company and your mom!"

"oh so answering that phone call while mom was lying on the ground dying was what was best for her? You were doing this all for yourself. So don't even go there. And for the record this is MOM'S HOUSE! Not yours. If you had stopped yourself from getting involved Mom would've been alive today! Yeah I made a little mistake but don't you dare make it seem like I'm ruining things because you already did that." James threw the trash bag on the floor and stormed up stairs. He slammed his door shut, pulled out his ipod and maxed the volume to get away from everything. He wanted to ignore the world.

"Litos, c'mon. Your ma wants you home and she is not happy." Eduardo called Carlos out the room. Carlos was relieved but also worried about what his mom was going to say. If she wasn't happy then he knew he'd get grounded for months.

"Dad, do you think maybe you could tell ma it was all a misunderstanding. Because you know… it was." Carlos sheepishly grinned hoping Eduardo would be a little lenient when they got home.

"You sisters are coming next week. You've got three ladies to deal with. I'm staying out of this." Eduardo quietly chuckled enjoying the idea of Carlos getting punished at home.

"Rosa and Lila? Papi please. This is going to be torture!" Carlos sulked and followed Eduardo out, "See you later Kendall."

Kendall chuckled at Carlos but went straight back to worrying.

"Kendall, your mom's here and Steve is coming in 5 minutes. Leroy told me what happened and I'm sure it was some sort of misunderstanding," Eduardo knew the boys too well and he knew they'd never get into trouble that was drug related.

"You know me, Mr Garcia. I would never do that." Kendall pleaded. He didn't know how else to make Eduardo believe him.

Eduardo was however, sceptical about something. Kendall started to get into trouble when he started hanging out with Cassidy, "How about your girlfriend? Leroy showed me her profile, she's had a history... are you su-"

Kendall knew it would come to this point. He didn't want to hear anything further, "Mr Garcia, Cassidy had nothing to do with this. This is all a misunderstanding."

Eduardo nodded having complete faith in what the blonde had said. He left the room and instantly Jennifer rushed in.

"Mom!" Kendall sighed out and relaxed a little as soon as he saw her. He stood up and Jennifer hugged her son, glad that he was okay and not hurt.

"Kendall, drugs? Honey, what is going on?" Jennifer sorrowfully looked to Kendall. She was confused but she knew her son well enough to know he'd never do that.

"I know, I know. I'm just as confused. I don't know how it got there. And Cassidy's drink was spiked. They didn't even let me call her mom. Or even you."

"It's okay, sweetie. We need to have a talk when we get home. Come on." Jennifer took Kendall out to the reception where an officer un-locked his cuffs. Kendall moved his wrist around trying to feel his blood flow again. Jack and Logan stood up as soon as they saw Jennifer and Kendall walk through.

"Good to see you, man." Logan chuckled when he saw Kendall coming out. "Never would've thought I'd be waiting for you at the police station."

"You're telling me. How's Cassidy? Where is she now?"

"She's at home. Some officer, who I'm guessing is her uncl- thanks for telling me by the way- called up her mom. So she's at home still unconscious. Dad and I've checked up on her a few times at her house. So don't worry about... you know." Logan informed Kendall hoping it'd relax Kendall.

Kendall did feel a little more relaxed. Since Jack was also checking up, he knew Joanna wouldn't do anything to her.

"I don't know how that shit got into my pocket." Kendall massaged his eyes and pushed his hair back. He thought he spent enough time thinking but being locked up broke those records.

"Her mom seemed quite concerned when she saw Cassidy collapsed." Cynically, Logan said. He knew Joanna was just as bad as Steve but was surprised by her level of worry.

"It's an act, I promise you that." Without a doubt Kendall knew Joanna was putting on an act, "They won't let me go yet, but will it be okay if your dad dropped me off to Cassidy's after?"

"Yeah, I'm sure he'd be happy to."

"And thanks Logan. For bringing my mom here and taking care of Cassidy." He was glad he had a friend like Logan. Sometimes he wondered where he'd be without him.

"No problem man, that's what friends are for."

Before they could leave Officer Leroy showed up and reached out his hand to Jennifer, "Officer Leroy Hart. You must be Mrs Jennifer Knight?"

Jennifer shook his hand impatiently, just wanting to go home and discuss what on earth happened. "Yes, Kendall's mother."

"Can we speak to you away from the public eye please?" He looked to Jennifer then at Kendall with a sincere smile which came off as forceful to Kendall.

"Yeah, Sure."

He took Jennifer and Kendall into interview room. There were only a table and 3 chairs in the room. The seats were ready for them as was another one opposite them.

Jennifer looked around the room quizzically. She thought the interview stage was over, "Are we going to be interviewed?"

"Cassidy's father wanted to speak to you... both of you." Leroy looked directly at Kendall, tilted his head with a falsified smile.

Jennifer looked to Kendall in worry. She'd met Joanna before but not Steve and she didn't know what to expect. The spiking of the drink was out of Kendall's reach. He would never spike Cassidy's drink, considering how much he loved her, it just wasn't logically.

Another officer came in and handed Leroy a clipboard. He signed a few things and looked to Jennifer, "Your son was in possession of Class C drugs - GHB, and luckily it was a small quantity. However, we found traces of GHB in Cassidy's drink. All the evidences are pointing towards your son Mrs Knight."

Jennifer sighed. Kendall looked at her mournfully and nodded his head in disagreement, "I'm aware of that. But I know my son. He would never do something like not. And too Cassidy? No way."

"I can understand that. But Cassidy's father is really concerned. She's had a history connected with drugs before and we don't want your son to be a worse influence on her." Leroy flipped a paper up on the clipboard and read a few more things.

Jennifer quizzically looked at Kendall. To her, Cassidy didn't look like the type of person that would be associated with drugs. It didn't make sense.

"She's never touched drugs in her life." Kendall emotionlessly seeped through his clenched teeth.

"I know it may be hard for you to believe Kendall, but we have the evidence. And your presence has bought that habit back, looks like it."

"All due respect Officer, But Kendall loves that girl to bits and I don't think he'd ever do such a thing. And Cassidy doesn't look the type either." Jennifer defended both Cassidy and her son. She was even more confused at what was going on with her son's relationship with his girlfriend.

"You've been brainwashed to think this." Kendall scoffed and slouched back into his chair. He shook his head in disbelief and just wanted to go see Cassidy.

"We have a file that never lies to us. And Steve is our main source. How can someone's father lie about such a thing?" Leroy put down the clipboard on the desk. He rested his palms against the table toppling over Kendall trying to look intimidating.

"Because he's sick in the head that's why!" Kendall suddenly had an outburst causing Jennifer to look at him stunned. She placed her hand over Kendall's trying to calm him down. He looked up at her and silently apologized with his eyes and Jennifer nodded.

"Thank You Kendall." A sudden voice appeared from the door; a very familiar sudden voice.

"Ah, Steve. Come on in, and take a seat." Leroy and Steve shared a mischievous smile together that didn't go unnoticed by Kendall or even Jennifer.

"Steve Hart, Cassidy's father." He reached out a hand. He looked to Kendall and smiled tauntingly, "Hello Kendall." Kendall didn't bother looking up.

"Jennifer Knight." She reluctantly shook his hand hoping this little talk would finish quick. Jennifer was sceptical about this 'meeting' and the fact that both the officer and Steve had the same last name made Jennifer more anxious…

"Mrs Knight, Your son has been let off with a warning. If this is the case again, he will be arrested and charged." Leroy informed and picked up the clipboard.

Jennifer just nodded.

"You must be wondering why I wanted to meet up with the mother of the boy who spiked my daughter's drink. Well, Cassidy's had a past with drug use and it got her to a place that was almost impossible for her to get out. Your son is making my daughter go back into that hole of hers." Steve spoke in false concern. He clasped onto his hands and rested his arms on the table.

"Bullshit. That's all that comes out from your mouth." Kendall coughed out.

"Kendall?" Jennifer was shocked at Kendall's language. She didn't know what was going on between the two but she sure didn't raise Kendall to be that feisty, "I'm sorry about that. But Mr Hart –"

"No please, call me Steve." Steve smiled contently.

"Ok, well, Steve, I think you're failing to realise these two love each other." Jennifer carefully spoke but also very sincerely. Steve looked at Leroy then back at Kendall in disgust.

"No, Jennifer, can I call you Jennifer? I think you're failing to realise how your son is using my daughter to get to the drugs. She's trying to be clean, but with him following her around like a fly it's hard for my daughter to stay clean!" Steve suddenly yelled out. Both Kendall and Jennifer weren't going to take this.

"Are you accusing my son of taking/ dealing drugs? Because if you are then you have clearly not met Kendall Knight!" Jennifer stood up and grabbed onto her purse ready to leave, "You're failing to realise the love your daughter has for my son. Vice versa. She isn't a toy. There is no way Cassidy would deal with things like that." Kendall stood up trying to protect his mother just in case Steve decided to pounce.

"Leroy, is she telling me how to raise my daughter?" Steve looked to Leroy, his breathing heavy. The fume in his eyes was so prominent that Kendall feared he'd lash out any second. "She is my daughter; my property; my responsibility. And I don't like your son mingling with her! So keep him, away from her! It's that simple." Steve stood up towering over Jennifer.

Jennifer didn't feel the slightest bit intimidated. She would protect her son till the day she died and even after that. She stepped forward and seethed through her teeth, "Looks like you don't even know your own daughter. Don't tell me or my son what to do. Come on Kendall let's go."

Leroy opened the door for the two and watched them leave the room.

"Excuse me, Jennifer?"

Jennifer stopped in her tracks and turned to look at Steve.

"It was nice meeting you. And Kendall, I really hope my daughter is okay." Steve's fists were clenched. Jennifer and Kendall left leaving Leroy and Steve in the room.

"You alright little brother?" Leroy cautiously asked knowing he might suddenly go off.

"That bitch cannot tell me how to raise my fucking family! I want him- I want her out of the fucking picture!" It was too late. He'd gone off like a fire cracker. He flipped the table and kicked the chair out of the way. "Big bro, it's on." He clicked his knuckles and his jaws.

Jennifer and Kendall found Jack and Logan still waiting for them at the reception. They were ready to go home. Jack bought the car around ready to take them home.

"How'd that go?" Logan asked Kendall from the passenger seat. Kendall sat behind Jack's seat and Jennifer sat behind Logan's.

"Let me just say that my mom is a badass." Kendall chuckled and Jennifer rolled her eyes and shook her head. She did crack a small smile.

"Cassidy's dad needed to hear that. He doesn't seem like a very pleasant man." Jennifer informed and Kendall knew he was far from pleasant.

"Well that's done and dealt with now. Logan, you had quite the party." Jack lowly chuckled. It would've been a different story if Logan spent the day with Loraine and Jack.

"I know." Logan shook his head still trying to get his head around everything.

Jack pulled up to the Knight's house. "Jack, thank you for being such a help today. And you too Logan." Jennifer thanked them both from the bottom of her heart.

"No worries Mama Knight."

"You're welcome Jennifer. If you need anything else whiles I'm in town just give me a ring. I'd be happy to help." Jack comfortingly smiled and made sure Jennifer felt safe. Jack wanted to do as much as he could to help them. He felt bad for them since Keith had left and they were left to fend for themselves. He was proud how Jennifer had handled everything.

"Mom, is it okay if I go see Cassidy? I know we have school tomorrow, but I promise I'll be back once I know she's doing okay." Kendall pleaded. He had to see Cassidy or he'd never any get any sleep. "If you don't mind driving me there, Mr Mitchell?" Jack nodded.

"Just stay out of Steve's way. Okay honey. When you get back we're going to have to talk about everything." Jennifer closed the door behind her and Kendall half-smiled, clearly dreading the talk. Jennifer was getting curious about a lot of things and maybe it was time to let her know. Jennifer went to their neighbour's house to collect Katie before going inside the house. She waved at Jack and the boys before he drove off.

They were all exhausted. Logan was happy he had finished all his homework on time otherwise he'd be too tired to do it.

"How long you and Cassidy been together?" Jack asked intriguingly. He had found Kendall and Cassidy's relationship very interesting. Logan had filled him in on all the stuff he should know and nothing more.

"Almost three months." In those three months they had gone through so much together it was unbelievable.

"That's quite impressive." Jack pulled up to Cassidy's house.

"Um, Mr Mitchell, is it okay if you come up and check on her just to see if she's doing fine or if there's anything I could do when she wakes up?" Kendall hesitantly asked hoping he wasn't asking for too much. Jack had been a great help and he didn't want to push his chances.

"No problem. Logan can you grab the emergency kit from the trunk?"

"Sure."

Logan, Jack and Kendall approached the door and knocked on it waiting for someone to answer it. No one was sure whether Steve was home or not. Finally, after a 2 minute wait the porch lights turned on and Joanna opened the door.

"Oh... Kendall, Logan and Mr Mitchell." Joanna didn't look too stunned when she saw them at her doorstep. She looked like she was asleep as the messy bed hair gave it away. "She's still unconscious. She's in her room." She looked at Kendall directly knowing he was probably very anxious to see her.

Kendall didn't thank her or say anything further. He simply rushed to her room hoping she was okay.

Cassidy's door was slightly open. Her lights were dimmed. Kendall pushed it open slowly and saw Cassidy tucked underneath the blanket. Her pillows nicely placed beside her and a tray of water and painkillers on her bedside table. He had thought Logan and Jack had put it there. The GHB knocked Cassidy out completely and there was no chance of her waking up until tomorrow.

Kendall kneeled down beside her bed and held onto her hand. His fingers laced through hers and with his other thumb he stroked her cheeks, kissing her forehead.

"I'm going to be here when you wake up." He whispered.

A small knock on the door made Kendall take his eye off Cassidy. Jack and Logan walked in with the emergency kit. He bought out the stethoscope and checked her heart beat. He checked her pressure and made sure there was no bruising around her head or hand when she fell. Jack suddenly stopped when he realised a bruise on the side of her neck and on her forearms. He looked up at Logan and then to Kendall curiously.

"Kendall? Do you know how she got those bruises?" Jack questioned and instantly Kendall and Logan looked up at each other. If Jack wasn't too busy observing Cassidy the face Kendall and Logan made would've given it all away.

"oh um, She told us she fell down the stairs the other day. I guess she fell pretty bad." Kendall hated lying about this but he knew if he said anything to any parent Cassidy would never forgive him. On top of that Steve wouldn't let him or her off easy.

"Oh, right. I'm going to prescribe her some tablets and cream to ease off the pain. And she's going to wake up with a killer headache tomorrow. Other than that she should be fine." Jack scribbled down the prescription and Kendall planned to collect it tomorrow.

"Thank you so much."

"Don't worry about it. I'll come and check again tomorrow and that way you could introduce us." He lowly chuckled as did Logan.

They said their goodbyes and Kendall felt the need to stay with her. Even if Steve did come, he wasn't going to leave Cassidy's side. He held onto Cassidy's hand and wished for her to wake up as soon as she could.

Joanna peeped through the door and watched Kendall worry for her daughter. She couldn't hate either of them at that very moment. She couldn't deny how cute it was. The night had progressed and Steve still hadn't showed. And something was telling Kendall he wasn't going to.

It was finally that time of year every kid loved, every parent adored and every family cherished. For Kendall it would be the first Christmas without his dad; For Cassidy it would be the first Christmas with a family; For James, another Christmas without his mom; For Logan a Christmas with both his parents and for Carlos a Christmas with all his friends and families and his future brother in law.

Christmas eve was going to be spent at the Garcia household and Silvia was more than excited to spend it with everyone. Silvia had spent so much time with Jennifer and Loraine over the years they had practically become family. Before Brooke passed away all four mothers would have a get together every week to get away from stress. But it didn't feel right when Brooke had passed.

"Kendall, make sure you take Katie with you and you lock up the house. Dinner starts at 6… don't be late." Jennifer grabbed her Keys and purse after wearing her jacket and scarf, "Cassidy make sure they're not late, please."

"Don't worry about it."

"I'm going to help Silvia and Loraine cook, so if you need me call Carlos or their house phone. My phone will most likely be in my purse."

"Got it. We'll see you in later mom."

Jennifer closed the door behind her and drove off to Carlos' house.

"Call me when you're ready to leave. I'm watching a movie upstairs so don't disturb me until I'm finished." Katie gave precise orders from on top of the stairs and Kendall just nodded in agreement.

"You got it. And don't tell mom I showed you were she hid the candy." Kendall yelled out before Katie entered her room.

"Kendall, I knew where they were before you but you got it." And she slammed her door shut.

"She knows everything around here." Kendall whined as Cassidy continued flicking through the channels.

A week had passed since the spiking incident. Kendall was by Cassidy's side when she woke up. He missed school that day and got the prescription jack had prescribed. Jennifer was a little angry about it and so he was grounded for 3 days which meant he couldn't see Cassidy until Sunday. Kendall explained to his mom about everything that happened at the party and Jennifer believed every word her son had said.

In the Hart resident, Joanna had let Cassidy be. She called her down to eat at they both silently sat at the dinner table, eating. Ever since the police station, Steve was rarely at home so she was finding the week fairly easy and calm. Joanna called Steve to find out where he was and every time she called they'd have a screaming contest over the phone. Cassidy would barricade herself in her room slyly texting Kendall from the phone she had secretly kept. In a way, Joanna was glad Steve was barely home. She got on with her work and for Cassidy she was a little free. Her mother would flip out on her every now and then but beating was never a part of the lash out.

It was Christmas Eve Joanna wasn't home, and neither was Steve. Joanna went to spend Christmas with some friends and Steve had disappeared again and no one knew where. But no one cared because this meant Cassidy was able to spend the days with Kendall without any interruption.

Cassidy leaned her back against Kendall and elongated her legs on the sofa, while Kendall stretched out his leg in front of the foot stool. He wrapped his arms around Cassidy and they flicked through the channels.

"Has daytime TV always been this boring?" Kendall complained as Cassidy continued flicking through the channels.

"Yup. There's actually nothing to watch, unless we watch this..." She stopped at a channel and cheekily grinned.

Kendall looked down at her emotionlessly, "Dora the explorer? You're serious?"

"Hey, I've barely watched shows like this growing up. I won't take this opportunity for granted." She spoke with confidence and tried not to giggle.

"But it's Dora the explorer." Kendall blankly stared at the tv then back at Cassidy.

"Your point?" Cassidy gripped onto the controller.

"I'll ask this nicely, before I tackle you. May I have the controller please?" Kendall cutely smiled and tilted his head adding emphasis to his smile. He batted his eyelashes and Cassidy rolled her eyes and chuckled.

"I'm sorry but I genuinely want to watch this." She lied. She held onto the controller tighter and slowly began to get up.

"I don't believe you. Come here." Kendall suddenly got up and Cassidy ran as fast as she could to the other side of the couch.

"Come on Knight, show me those hockey move of yours. Let's see your tackle." Cassidy stood as far away as she could from Kendall. Kendall stood straight with an eyebrow arched and a small smirk. She was definitely teasing him and he was slyly enjoying it.

Cassidy folded her arms and stared at Kendall waiting for his next moves.

"I'm finding this very sexy, you do know that right?"

"Well you're sister is upstairs so nothing can happen, you do know that right?" Cassidy squinted and scrunched her nose teasingly. Kendall suddenly ran over to Cassidy. She quickly tried to run but Kendall grabbed her by the waist and lifted her up, slowly placing her down onto the couch.

"Sometimes I think you forget the speed and strength of a hockey player." Kendall winked at her and snatched the controller off of her. Cassidy shook her head with a smirk and put both her hands on each side of Kendall.

"Babe, I know your speed but your strength is questionable." She pulled him down by his shirt and lightly kissed the top of his lips. She bit the side of her bottom lips and giggled before pushing him back.

"I don't know whether to feel offended of very turned on right now." Kendall grinned and pushed Cassidy back down pinning her onto the couch.

"Kendall, Katie is upstairs... And the controller is all yours."

"I need an alternative."

"Oh you do?"

He leaned down with smirk and slowly connected his lips with hers. Cassidy instantly draped her arms around Kendall's neck. She smiled at how natural it felt. It felt good for the both of them that they could fool around with each other without worrying about anything. Joanna was most likely too busy with her friends and Steve seemed too busy to worry about Cassidy. As for Leroy, he was busy with his job.

Kendall placed his hand under Cassidy's sweater and drew small circles on her back. The kiss was soft and delicate, both of their lips taking the fair share of control. They slowly came to a halt when they realised it just didn't feel right doing anything further in the living on Jennifer's couch.

"I don't think it's the best idea." Kendall looked around the living room and they both chuckled in agreement. So he collapsed beside Cassidy. She leaned on his chest drawing small circles while Kendall tangled his fingers through Cassidy's hair.

"So is everyone going to be at Carlos'?"

"Yup, we haven't had a 'get together Christmas eve' meal like this for almost three years."

"I guess it's going to be nice for you all this year."

"And for you too. A real Christmas dinner for you and our first Christmas together." He kissed the top of her nose and she tapped his.

"I hope this time you don't spike my drink." She joked and giggled. Kendall lowly laughed and that disappeared ... "Too soon?" Cassidy looked up. They had come around the whole spiked situation but both Cassidy and Kendall were still wondering who had spiked her drink and how it ended up in Kendall's jacket.

"A little." He leaned his chin on top of Cassidy's hair inhaling her sweet, floral scent, "Have you heard about the graduation field trip in February?"

"We get to go away for a week? Is this educational?" Cassidy turned to her side so she had a better look at Kendall. Her side stung a little due to old bruises but she was capable enough to handle it.

Kendall had heard that before, from his very own Logan Mitchell, "Only you and Logan would wish it was educational."

"Sorry for caring about our education." She sarcastically remarked and Kendall rolled his eyes.

"Anyway, this happens to be educational. But we do one activity about team work and its all fun and games after. It's like a last bash for us seniors and we get to stay at a hotel." The excitement of possible getting out of the town let alone the state, was exciting Kendall. To get away from everything for a week was all he needed, all they both needed. He nuzzled his nose underneath Cassidy's ear and placed small kisses along her jaws.

"Oo, a hotel? I'm liking the idea of this." A small smirk crept onto her face. The couple in a hotel room away from parents, stress, and mayhem floated around in Cassidy's mind. It was like a dream to her. It maybe a small dream but Cassidy never wanted to take anything for granted considering how limited everything was for her.

"I don't know where it is yet, but you, my beautiful girlfriend have to come and I will make sure of that." Kendall kissed Cassidy very delicately leaving a tingling sensation on her lips, like he did every time they kissed.

Cassidy gave it a long thought, obviously it wasn't up to her whether she gets to go, "If Dad continues going missing like this they're may be a possibility."

"Let's hope he disappears for good. And let's hope Leroy goes with him and Joanna can just drop-disappear too." Kendall said heartlessly, feeling no sympathy for none of them. If they can't show respect, he would do that same.

"Hey come on, she's my mom at the end of the day." As much as she despised her mother, she could never wish death upon on her. She could never wish death upon anyone even if they were her enemies.

"They don't deserve your love." Kendall looked up at the ceiling, remembering all the torture Cassidy had to go through. He hadn't been there from the beginning of it all but he wished he was to protect her from it.

"I've just got to deal with it."

"I don't know how you do it." Kendall glanced at Cassidy wondering how she was always so patient and tolerant of everything. And in all honesty he envied her for that, he envied her for always managing to keep herself in control and just dealing with everything. "I know, let's just hope you're allowed to go on the field trip so we can spend our time doing t-"

"Ehem." Katie suddenly interrupted. She was wearing her coat and had her phone in her had. She put all her weight on one leg and stared at Cassidy and Kendall with her eyebrows arched.

"oh, Katie. Didn't hear you come down?" Cassidy got up and sat up on the couch properly. She fixed her hair and pulled down her top. It's not like her and Kendall was up to anything, she just didn't want to set a bad example.

"I bet you didn't."

"What do you want?" Kendall rolled his eyes and also sat up, looking back at Katie.

"If you weren't too busy making out with your girlfriend you would've heard the phone ring. Mom wants you to go to Carlos' now since everyone is already there." Katie wore her shoes and tied her laces. She opened the door and waited outside for Kendall and Cassidy.

"It's a bit early. It's only 3." Kendall whined.

"Mom's orders not mine, now come one lover boy. Cassi I still don't know what you see in him."

"He's very cute and very sexy." Cassidy wore her jacket and followed Katie out of the house. She looked back at Kendall and smirked. Kendall grinned as he closed the door behind him and walked to his car.

"Ew, I don't want to hear it." Katie cringed and shivered. Cassidy lowly giggled and Kendall looked at his little sister trying not to laugh.

"Get in the car baby sis."

They drove up to Carlos' house which was a 5 minutes drive, playing the radio and singing along to whatever song it was playing on the radio. They knocked on the door and one of Carlos' sisters answered the door.

"And who's this?" She was a splitting image of Silvia. Her hair was as long as Katie's and her eyes were just like Silvia's. She had the same smile as Carlos and was slightly taller than the latino.

"Rosa, Hello!" Kendall was stunned to see her. He hadn't seen her since she moved out with her fiancé to New York. They had announced their engagement a couple of months ago and so she bought her fiancé- Carlos' future brother in law -to spend Christmas with them.

She pulled Kendall in for a hug and then went to Katie for a hug, "Hello sweeties, look how much you've both grown. And who's this?"

Cassidy stood awkwardly aside not knowing who the girl was but she enjoyed her enthusiasm.

"Oh yeah, Rosa this is my girlfriend, Cassidy. Cassi this is Carlos' older sister, Rosa."

"Well hello Cassidy, to let you know I'm the one that's engaged." She displayed her left hand and the diamond ring almost blinded Cassidy.

"Hey, and that's a gorgeous ring. Congratulation." Cassidy took a closer look at her engagement ring and Rosa was squealing in excitement.

"Thank you. How rude of me, leaving you guys out in the cold, come in and Make yourself at home. Everyone is everywhere."

"Rosa, don't worry about it, I think I've made myself at home here for a while now." Kendall closed the door behind him. He took off Cassidy's Jacket and hung it up on the coat rack. Katie went off to the kitchen falsely advising her help.

"That's right. You guys come here more than I do… So you're friends with the other guys too?" Rosa asked Cassidy as she took them into the living room where Logan, James and Carlos were playing video games.

"Rosa, can you stop interrogating her?" Carlos complained as he continued playing his game.

"I'm just trying to be friendly 'litos."

"I practically see them as my brothers now." Cassidy chuckled and sat down on the arm chair watching the guys play. Kendall crossed his arms and watched them play and complained every time one of them did something stupid.

"Well looks like you're all occupied. If you need anything feel free to come to the kitchen were all this isn't going on." Rosa smiled before she left to go to the kitchen.

Just as Rosa left someone else walked in, "Where's my boy?" Another voice seeped through the living room door. Kendall had a small smile creep on his face when he saw Carlos' other sister walk in. "Is that Kendall?"

"Lila!" Kendall opened his arm and she gave him a hug. "How's college going?"

"It sucks! How have you been? Where's that hot girlfriend of yours?" Lila looked around and when she saw the petite blonde sitting on the arm chair she knew it was Cassidy straight away.

Cassidy looked to Lila intriguingly. She wondered where the 'hot' references came from.

"She is pretty hot." Kendall looked to Cassidy and winked causing her to blush. "My girlfriend Cassidy, and Cassi this is Carlos' other sister." He introduced her to Lila and wrapped his arm around his waist.

"The smart sister. Hello Cassidy, You are kinda hot. James you were right."

Cassidy raised an eyebrow and looked behind Kendall to see James sheepishly grin, "I can't deny that. Get over it." James chuckled and continued going back to the game. Logan and Carlos both nodded in agreement.

"Thank you. But I'm n-"

"Shhh, we'll discuss that later." Kendall seductively whispered through Cassidy's ear, making her blush once again.

"Well you both seem pretty occupied." Lila smirked and let them have their space.

"They always do that." Logan, Carlos and James said in unison and Kendall grinned.

Cassidy would always be shy in front of new people. No matter who they were she had a hard time opening up. She knew once she got to know everyone it would all feel natural.

"Babe, I'm going to go to the kitchen to see if they need any help. You have fun with the boys. And don't worry about me, okay. This is family time." She pecked his lips before she left.

"We need us time soon as well. " He bit the bottom of her lips as Cassidy walked off and she smirked back at him.

"I'd say you both need to get laid but you both have already done that." James nonchalantly uttered as he viciously finished off the game.

"Dude!" Kendall tried his best not to blush and Logan and Carlos both joined James, laughing, "Give me that." He pulled the game console out of James' grasp and continued playing for him.

In the kitchen Cassidy hesitantly walked in. She'd met everyone accept Carlos' mom and she was quite excited to meet her. She hoped she was just as amazing as Carlos.

"Cassidy, Sweetie you can help Katie and Lila set up the table." Jennifer saw Cassidy walk in and she knew how shy she could get so tried to make Cassidy feel welcomed.

"Ahh, this is Cassidy then." Silvia wiped her hand on the cooking cloth and approached Cassidy for a welcoming hug, "Come here pumpkin. I'm Silvia, Carlos' mom. How are you sweetheart?"

Silvia was exactly how she had pictured her to be, just as sweet as Carlos. "I'm fine, thank you. And Mrs Garcia, thank you for inviting me tonight."

"Don't be silly sweetie, a friend of Carlos' is a friend of ours. I've heard you've been tutoring him in some of his classes. I should be thanking you. He's jumped up two grades." Silvia smiled at Cassidy warmly.

"He's a quick learner when he's paying attention." Cassidy giggled.

"Just like my Lila sometimes."

"Ma, I've always been smart. 'los is just some hyper kid with an attention span of a fish." Lila defensively spoke as she folded the napkin and placed it on top of the plates that Katie laid out.

"Be nice Lila… Cassidy you can help the girls set up the table. We'll all be here if you need us." Silvia flashed her beautiful smile and went back to cooking.

Cassidy laid out the cutlery got into a conversation with Lila and Katie. It almost seemed so natural for her to be in such a loving environment. It got Cassidy wondering what had gone wrong in her life for her to get such deceiving parents. She envied every single person in that house but was so thankful that she was finally surrounded by such kind hearted people.

"Boys, Dinner is ready come on." Loraine called out from the kitchen as she poured herself a glass of wine and placed it on the table near her seat. The table could be stretched, fitting up to 15 people, so everyone had a seat. The turkey's were at the centre of the table and as well as the stuffing and everything else the mothers had all prepared.

"Carlos, where's your father?" Silvia sat down, looking out in the foyer to see if Eduardo was there.

"I'm coming, I'm coming. Just changed out of my uniform." Eduardo sat down on the other end of the dinner table. Jack and Dan had arrived 20 minutes before dinner was ready with cans of beer and some chocolate for the kids. James was surprised Dan actually showed up. He thought the company would be his main priority on Christmas like it was every other day. Rosa's fiancé – Andrew, sat down beside her and the table was full.

"Looks like everyone is here." Jennifer looked around the table. Jack, Logan, Kendall, Cassidy, James and Katie sat on one side. Lila, Andrew, Rosa, Jennifer, Loraine, Carlos and Dan sat on the other, leaving Silvia to sit on one end and Eduardo to sit at the opposite end.

"Before we start, we should have a toast. We're thankful to be surrounded by amazing friends who are practically family on Christmas eve. We've lost a few friends, but gained some addition to the family and we couldn't be more blessed." Eduardo looked at Cassidy and Andrew smiling at them warmly, as if the toast was a formal welcome into the circle. Everyone raised their glass, "Let's all hope for a blessed year and let's hope these boys stay out of trouble." Everyone lowly laughed and clinked their glasses with each other.

Cassidy looked around the table, taking in every single moment of her first ever Christmas dinner. She felt over whelmed with so many emotions. Kendall glared at Cassidy knowing she must be feeling overwhelmed, he held on to her hand under the table and they made eye contact slyly, silently engaging in a comforting conversation.

"Eduardo, I guess you can begin cutting the turkey." Silvia commanded and he got out the knife, carving the tender turkey. Everyone else was passing around the vegetables and the gravy, digging into their food.

Time flew by at the dinner table. It was 7.55pm. They'd started dinner at 6 and everyone was laughing across the table, telling funny stories and enjoying each other's presence. It looked like Loraine and Jack had put their issues aside to enjoy tonight, whereas the tension between James and Dan was still hazy. But that didn't affect either of them.

"Okay, Okay enough of the story. Let me get the dessert ready. Trifle, and fudge brownie cake with homemade ice cream." Silvia piled the plates up to one side and took it to the kitchen.

"Let me guess, Loraine's idea." Jack suggested confidently. Loraine chuckled as did Logan and Jennifer.

"At least you didn't forget that." Loraine rolled her eyes and laughed quietly.

"Wait mom. Hurry back. Andrew and I have an announcement to make." Rosa held onto Andrews arm in excitement. Andrew was a sweet guy. He was quite tall with light brown, short hair and light brown eyes.

"I'm not going to be a grandparent soon, am I?" Eduardo sternly looked to Andrew who stiffened straight away.

"No sir. Not yet." Andrew nervously chuckled. Silvia came back into the dining room and waited for the news.

Rosa and Andrew stood up, "So as you know Rosa and I are engaged..." Andrew started off.

"And, well we have set the wedding date. We're getting married on August 23rdth." Rosa excitingly squealed and Lila was just as excited as Rosa. Silvia was beaming with happiness and Eduardo looked at his daughter proudly. Carlos was ecstatic that his sister had finally sorted out a date.

"Lila, I want you to be the bridesmaid of course, and Daddy, can you walk me down the isle?" Rosa looked at her dad almost in tears. She was so happy that the date had finally been set.

"Of course princess. Would never say no to you." Eduardo stood up in a very emotional state and hugged his daughter with pride and happiness.

The evening was turning out pretty spectacular for the Garcia's. And Cassidy and everyone else felt blessed to have witnessed it.

"Rosa, what am I going to be up to at this wedding of yours?" Carlos exclaimed.

"You are going to be one of my best mans, alongside my best bud." Andrew happily smiled and Carlos nodded excitedly.

"That's awesome man. Can't wait. See guys at least Andrew would have me as his best man. Hmph." Carlos looked at his friends who were chuckling.

"Carlos, we never said you won't be our best man." James responded and Carlos refused to believe them.

"Watch me rock it as Andrew's best man."

"Dude, you might as well be the bride's maid if you're going to rock it." Logan joked causing everyone at the table to laugh. Carlos sulked on his chair and Eduardo patted his back in a friendly manner.

The day had gone so perfectly for everyone. It was rare for them all to have a good day, especially for Cassidy. She felt loved, welcomed and she cherished the moments.
