Chapter 12

I inhale sharply as the pain hits me. I try to focus but the pain is too great. I cannot tell myself to heal.

The Book. Of course.

With what little control I have left in my right arm I swing it wildly, until it makes contact with The Book. "Mishaw, Mishaw, Mishaw."

The familiar blue glow comes from the book in a wispy tendril that winds itself around my arm. It creeps up my arm like a vine, winding around and around. Until it hits my chest, then it slithers across before plunging into my heart. As my hand slips from the book I murmur, "Tem."

She closes her eyes. She looks peaceful. They let go of Bruce. He jumps onto the table and kneels beside her. "Zerra, Zerra," he coos holding her head like a babe. She exhales. Then stops breathing. "Zerra? Zerra? ZERRA!" No, NO this could not be.
