Annabelle ushers us towards the train and Charlie pushes through the crowd so we have a path to walk. People from all over the Ministry District are gathered here to send us off, they're cheering and screaming, some are even chanting mine and Scorpius' names.
What is so enthralling about the Games, I wonder. They're disguised as a punishment but by now Voldemort has to know that no one knows the whereabouts of my father. He's just doing it to be cruel, he's playing a Game that only he can win. There are no victors, that I have learned in my few waking hours since the Games ended. You do not win the Games, you kill and then you survive them. Hardships do not stop when the Games end, in some ways, I think that's when they begin.
Most of the crowd have painted faces, like we are at a Quidditch match. Some have District number's, other's have our last names, and even some had our Hogwarts colors splattered across their faces.
Charlie climbs onto the train and Scorpius follows him. But I can't move my feet anymore, I'm suddenly very tired. Charlie climbs off the train and grabs my arm very gently, which is especially strange for Charlie.
"Sweetheart, come on," Charlie urges me, his face softening even further as he studies me, "It's time to go home."
I nod silently, and Charlie steps on the train and offers to help me up. I just stare at his open palm, before I turn around one last time. This is the District where my cousin came from, these are the people that she grew up with. I can see now why she was the way she was, I'm sure growing up with Uncle Percy didn't help.
The crowd goes silent as they see me standing there, they were probably expecting me to make some kind of speech. As I look out over the crowd, a young girl pushes her way to the front. When I see her face, she immediately reminds me of the cousin I murdered. She has dark almost black hair and dark chocolate brown eyes. She stands with her arms crossed at her chest, and meets my eye completely unafraid. Most children cower at the sight of victors, but not her.
Scorpius calls my name, but I do not answer. She looks exceptionally like Molly… is it possible that they are related? I kneel down in front of the girl and she bites her lip and continues to meet my gaze.
"I'm Ravenna Weasley," She says, her lip quivering a bit, "Molly was my sister."
I gasp in a deep breath. How is it possible that Uncle Percy had another child without anyone knowing? Ravenna and Molly look so alike, I can see the sibling resemblance. It's clear that they have the same mother, as Uncle Percy has ginger hair.
"I'm so sorry for your loss," I whisper quietly, avoiding her eyes.
I'm more of a coward than this young girl standing before me. She stomps her foot on the pavement and says, "You can make this up to me."
I look at her. I wonder what she wants from me. If it's money, I don't have it to give. If it's her sister back, I can't bring her back.
"How?"
"Lily," Scorpius' footsteps clink on the train steps, "Let's go."
Charlie holds out an arm to stop Scorpius' descent, "Let her be, she needs this."
"I don't want to end up like my sister," Ravenna clears her throat, "Molly raised me, and now that she's gone, it's just me and my father. You're my family, right?"
I swallow hard, "Yes, I'm your blood. I'm your cousin,"
"I need a family," Ravenna says, her large brown eyes staring firmly at me, "I need a life outside of this District."
I look at her, taken aback. Was she really asking her sister's murderer to live with her?
"Ravenna, I don't know… Your father will search for you to no end when he sees that you have left, and he'll eventually see this footage, and know where you are." I say.
She shakes her head, "I can't stay with him. I need a better life, Molly would have wanted me to have a better life."
I look back at Charlie. He's heard everything, and is now watching this small girl with curiosity. He sighs heavily, "Do what you need to do, Lily."
I look down at this small girl. I murdered my cousin and I couldn't save my niece, but I can save her. I can save Ravenna from this District, from my Uncle, from a fate that is the same as her sister's.
"Ravenna, are you sure? If you come with me, there is no going back."
She looks up at me. Tears are starting to cloud her chocolate brown eyes, "You are the only hope I have, Lily. I don't have a home without Molly."
I wipe away her tears and smooth down her black hair, "Okay, okay. Let's go home."
Charlie helps her on to the train and I follow her. Neither Scorpius nor Charlie protest my decision. Annabelle raises her eyebrows at me and gives me an uncomfortable stare. She's worried how the Districts will respond, how Voldemort will respond when they find that Ravenna is going to meet the rest of her family.
Ravenna and I sit down on a couch adjacent to the window. She sits up and peers outside long after the train has sped away. Scorpius sits down next to me and squeezes my knee. I hope that he thinks I have made the right decision by bringing Ravenna on board.
Annabelle heads to bed once we've reached the edge of the city, and her door slams shut behind her. Charlie leaves us as well, but for the bar car. Ravenna is glancing around nervously, and I wonder if she's doubting her decision to leave.
"Can you tell me about the rest of my family?" She asks.
"Sure," I softly answer.
I tell her about everything. I tell her about how Rose is currently dating Blake Zabini but is too afraid to tell her father. I tell her about how Roxanne has had a crush on Logan Pierce since our first year at Hogwarts, and that I think they will get together soon. I tell her about how our whole family started with Molly and Arthur Weasley, and that she'll never get to meet them but they were such lovely people. I tell her about her Uncle Fred who she'll never get to meet either, but how Uncle George named one of his sons after his deceased twin and now we have Fred II who is quite arrogant but still manages to be lovable. I tell her about my father, and how he is never going to come home.
"I'm sorry about your dad," Ravenna says quietly, her eyes drooping.
"It's okay, Ravenna." I smile softly at her.
"Lily?" She asks.
"Yes?"
"I think I like to be called Raven better," She says.
I nod surprised, "I'll call you anything you want to be called, dear."
She smiles softly and we're quiet for a moment. Then, Scorpius starts to snore beside me, his head is tilted back and pressed against the window.
Ravenna giggles loudly, "Does he always snore?"
"Only when he feels completely safe, but that doesn't happen very often." I sigh.
"Do you think that everyone will like me?" She asks hesitantly.
I look at her and nod. "Yes, I really think they will."
She smiles softly and I turn back to facing forward. After a few minutes of silence, I look down at Raven again. She's sleeping soundly, her face half covered by her thick black hair. I scoop her up into my arms, careful not to jostle and wake her. I grab my discarded crown from the floor and walk to a spare room. It was supposed to be Scorpius', but he slept in my room every night that we were on the train.
Gently, I place her head on the pillow and lay her down. I cover her up and make sure she is comfortable. I place my crown on the other pillow next to her, she'll enjoy it more than I ever will. I can't look at it without seen the blood on my hands. I exit the room, switching off the lights and shutting the door as I go.
I head back to the couch, thinking that maybe I will join Charlie in the bar car. I could use a drink to dull my senses after everything that has transpired. But, to my surprise, Scorpius is standing and very much awake.
"I thought you were asleep," I press my hand against my chest.
He smirks, "I wasn't going to waste tonight sleeping on the couch when I could be in your bed, sleeping with you."
I smirk back. Scorpius is the only vice that I need. He crosses the room, and picks me up off my feet. I kiss him, hard, and wrap my legs around his waist. We stay like that for who knows how long, we have all night to cherish this, to cherish each other.
"I missed you," I gasp.
"I missed you too," Scorpius kisses me again, "I thought I was going to lose you. I was so afraid."
"I'm here now," I say softly, resting my forehead against his.
He breathes in a deep breath and smirks wickedly, "Good."
Scorpius kisses me again, and carries me into the room we share. He locks the door behind us, and throws me on the bed. My body isn't disconnected from his for too long though, he climbs on top of me and kisses me again. This time, we don't have to rush. He cherishes me with each kiss and we savor each garment of our clothing that is lost and each inch of skin that is revealed.
We wake up in the morning to the sound of Charlie stumbling across the train, I guess some things never do change. I roll off of Scorpius' chest and look at the clock, it's only seven. Scorpius and I didn't go to bed until an hour ago.
"Charles Anthony Lacross, you are waking this entire train!" Annabelle scolds loudly.
Scorpius groans loudly and suddenly, he sits upright. He looks alarmed and I wrap my arms around him to calm him.
"Shh," I kiss his shoulder, "It's alright. It's just Charlie, he's drunk."
Scorpius nods slowly and pulls me on to his lap. I snuggle into his chest, enjoying our skin to skin contact. He kisses the top of my head and says, "The train is supposed to arrive at seven thirty."
I nod and look up at him, "Can't we just go back to bed? I'm exhausted."
I groan loudly and he chuckles. He kisses my forehead and then my nose, "Why I'm awfully sorry, Miss Potter. I know how you need your sleep,"
I nod, "I need my beauty sleep."
He laughs, "Nonsense."
Suddenly, someone is knocking at the door. I look at Scorpius and roll my eyes. I quickly pull on a robe and toss Scorpius his boxers and a tee shirt. He pulls them on quickly and once we're both covered I open the door.
Raven is standing there, her hair a frizzy mess. She's rubbing her eyes sleepily and holding a small hairbrush.
"Lily, will you help me get ready?" She asks.
I yawn and nod. She steps inside my bedroom, and I close the door behind her. Scorpius smiles warmly at her and she goes to sit on the bed next to him. Scorpius looks at her confused and I shrug. Molly most likely has done this for her entire life.
"So Raven, tell me about yourself," Scorpius says.
Raven shrugs and offers me her brush. I take it and gently brush through her hair, getting the many many tangles out.
"I'm seven," She says.
She's only a year older than Kaitlyn. I swallow hard and smile down at Raven. I hope her appearance is accepted by Teddy and Victoire.
"Really?" Scorpius asks, "That's quite old."
Scorpius winks at me and I shake my head. He's adorable with children, I'd love to give him one of his own one day. The thought surprises me, and I shake my head to rid myself of it.
"I know," Raven smiles brightly, "I'll be eight in November!"
I finish brushing Raven's hair and hand the brush back to her, "Did you brush your teeth already?"
She nods, "Yes, and I'm going to wear this dress there. I just needed help with my hair, thank you Lily."
Someone knocks on the door and then enters quickly. Annabelle answers, a frown on her face. Her blonde hair is tied up into a ponytail and for some reason today she looks not put together.
"We'll be arriving soon," She clears her throat, "Perhaps you two should get dressed. Raven, why don't you come with me? I have a dress that may just fit you."
Raven nods excitedly and hops off the bed. She follows Annabelle out of the room, who glances back at us. Her frown deepens as she shuts the door behind her.
I sigh heavily, I wonder what her problem is. I head over to my wardrobe, and pick out an oversized gray sweater and light wash jeans. I slide off my robe, aware of eyes watching me.
Scorpius comes up from behind me and wraps his arms around me. He's taken off his tee shirt and boxers as well, and it's comforting to feel his skin against mine. He sweeps my hair all over one of my shoulders and rests his chin against my now bare shoulder. He kisses the skin there and slowly moves his lips up my neck. I shiver involuntarily, my mind is somewhere else.
"Lily," He sighs.
"Hmm?"
"You're so far away right now, tell me what's on your mind." He rests his chin against my shoulder.
I shake my head and take a deep breath. I turn around to face him and give him a small smile, "Nothing."
"You are a terrible liar, love." He says softly.
I sigh, "I'm just…. I killed so many... and now we're going home, but I don't know if my family will even be able to look at me the same way… I mean, I let Katie die, I don't think my brother will ever forgive me for that. I just close my eyes and see blood."
He shakes his head and pulls me into a hug. I rest my cheek against his bare chest and he holds me against him tightly. He strokes my hair, "Don't you ever think that Kaitlyn's death was your fault, you did everything you could have to protect her. Teddy will understand that. And your family will have your back no matter what, baby. I bet they're so excited to see you. They'll love you no matter what you do, as will I."
I nod. I hope that what he's saying is right. I look down at myself. The scar that Molly left is healed over, a scar that I can make out without even looking at it, I can run my fingers across my stomach and easily feel her name carved into my skin. I couldn't stop feeling self conscious last night, I couldn't help but feel so much uglier with this scar. I wouldn't have minded keeping the scar that much, if all my other scars were still there with this one. But they're not, this scar was ordered to remain tattooed on my skin.
I swallow hard, "Scorpius, be honest with me."
He frowns, "Always."
I look down at my scar once more, "I know I'm less attractive with this scar. I just… Does it bother you? I'm so self conscious of it…"
Scorpius lifts my chin with his hand and forces me to meet his eye. He stares me straight in the eye, "No, it doesn't bother me at all. I wish you wouldn't worry about something so trivial. Instead of making it a permanent reminder of what we went through in the Games, make it a reminder that you're strong, and that you can survive anything. Don't let it bother you love, it's not on my mind at all when I see your skin. To be truthful, I'm mostly just thinking about how beautiful you are and how lucky I am to be able to touch you like this."
I lean forward and kiss him. He is a blessing, a ray of sunshine in this darkness. I'm so lucky to have him. I kiss him hard, and he smiles against my lips. He breaks the kiss and smiles at me, "It's time to go home, Red. I'm going to let you get dressed, because I think if I don't stop now we aren't going to make it off this train for a long long time."
I smirk and he kisses the top of my head. He slides his boxers and tee shirt back on, before he leaves the room. Quickly, I dress. My curls and makeup are still somewhat intact, but it's good enough. I just want to see my family. I slide on a pair of gray tennis shoes and then I feel it. There's a pull, and the train is slowing quickly. I'm home. Scorpius is home.
Annabelle is knocking on my door, "We've arrived!"
I haven't seen my family in almost two months. It's October now, summer is gone and fall has set in. I take a deep breath, and open my door. Scorpius is standing on the other side, dressed in dark wash jeans and a gray sweater as well. I love when he matches me. He didn't want to rush me, so he must have stood here waiting.
Raven comes running down the corridor, stopping in front of me. She's dressed in a pretty floral dress and her same strappy sandals that she wore yesterday. I wonder how my family will take to her. She looks scared now that she's finally here, and I take her hand.
"They are going to love you," I reassure her.
She smiles and reaches for Scorpius' hand as well. Hand in hand, we walk down the corridor to stand next to the door. Charlie and Annabelle are standing here, waiting for us. Annabelle throws her arms around each of, quite emotionally, and makes us promise to visit. Charlie shakes each of our hands, except when he comes to me. He grabs my hand tightly and pulls me in for a hug. I let out a surprised squeak, and he pulls me even closer, so that his lips are by my ear.
"If you ever need anything, let me know. I'd like to help with the rebellion."
I pull back surprised. He watches me carefully and waits for me to react. I nod slowly and smile weakly at him, "Thank you, Charlie."
He nods and says, "I'll see you all around in District Two."
We all nod, Raven nods with an all business face. I smile to myself, she barely knows Charlie or Annabelle, but she plays along like she does.
Charlie and Annabelle exit the train first, waving goodbyes and Charlie raises his flask towards me, and drinks. I'm going to miss him, and Annabelle. I look at Scorpius, we're here. We're home. We did it. Scorpius nods. I step into the doorway, ready to see my family once more.
