It had been five days since Jimmy had been killed and today was the joint funeral for him and Tony. Gibbs and Ducky had opted to combine the funeral's to make things easier for the NCIS family. Gibbs had been unable to contact DiNozzo Senior. The night before he'd finally managed to get a hold of his assistant who had promised pass the message on to him. The rage Gibbs felt about that was unspeakable. The man's child was dead and he couldn't be bothered to at least talk on the phone. Senior was the only family Tony had that Gibbs had any idea of how to contact. There was no money to be divided up anyway. So Gibbs doubted anybody would care. So he could do whatever he wanted with Tony's arrangements. Breena was the only immediate family Jimmy had and she was fine with the arrangement.
Ducky stared at Jimmy's casket from the front row of the church. It had been five hellish days since he'd lost he beloved assistant. He had been getting at best two hours of sleep at night. Those hours were only obtained after wearing himself out from fits of hysterical crying. That seemed to be all he did since losing Jimmy. The idea of returning to work made him physically ill. He found himself praying for his own death so he would not have to carry on like this.
Gibbs sat beside his old friend. It had been four days since he'd lost his beloved second in command. He was managing. He spent most of the previous days in his basement constructing a memorial for the lost comrades and family members. The rest of his time was spent checking in on Ducky and the remaining members of his shattered team. He turned and faced the older man. Gibbs had never seen him like this. Even in the days following his heart attack he looked stronger than this. He was sure he wasn't much better off thought.
"Oh Jethro are you? I mean how are you?" Ducky asked.
"I've been better. You?" Gibbs replied.
"This is the worst time of my life." Ducky replied.
"Oh" Gibbs replied.
"Jethro can I tell you something?" Ducky asked.
"Sure what?" Gibbs asked.
"I have decided to retire from NCIS. I cannot do this anymore. Cut people up they will all just look like Mr. Palmer and Anthony. It's simply too much for me. I am ready to move on to the next part of my life. I am sorry Jethro. I know you need to speak with me frequently and you still can but I cannot stay with the agency. I am too old and too tired. Do not try to fight me I have already given Leon my letter of resignation and put in candidates for my replacement." Ducky explained.
"If that's what you want to do Duck. It is fine with me. Jimmy would want you to be happy." Gibbs replied.
"Thank you Jethro." Ducky replied.
Abby tightly gripped McGee's hand. It still seemed so unfair and cruel. Why did they have to lose both Tony and Jimmy? Poor Gibbs and Ducky were hurting so bad. Gibbs had even cried. Ducky had not stopped crying since Jimmy died. He just looked so old and frail. Gibbs didn't look great either. She could not imagine how he must be feeling he had lost a second child. She just wanted everything the way it was before. This was like Kate, Jenny, and Mike all rolled into one and times a thousand.
McGee was sure Abby had broken at least one bone in his hand. He didn't have the heard to say anything though. She was hurting so bad. They all were. He had lost his brother and one of his closest friends within a twenty-four hour period. Now they were gathered in some random church listening to a minister go on and on about how fragile life was. If he hadn't personally touched both Jimmy and Tony's cold limp bodies. He would not believe any of this was real.
"Timmy?" Abby whispered.
"What is it Abbs?" McGee asked.
"I can't believe they are gone." Abby replied.
"Neither can I Abbs." McGee told her.
"I feel so bad for Ducky and Gibbs." Abby replied.
"Ziva and Breena too." McGee added.
"Them too." Abby said.
"It'll be okay though." McGee assured.
"I hope so." Abby whispered.
Ziva tightly gripped her Star of David as she wept in the woman's room. She wasn't super close to Jimmy but the loss of Tony had shaken almost as bad as the loss of Talia. She'd had no contact with any of the team since leaving the hospital after Tony died. She had loved him so much. Why had she never told him? She had so many opportunities. She would give anything for just one more minute. Long enough to tell him that she loved him. Another round of sobs racked her body. Causing her to fall to the ground. The top half of her body landed outside the stall.
Breena leaned against the sink in the lady's room. Today was her Jimmy's funeral it was also the funeral of his co-worker Tony. She was actually kind of relieved the funerals were the same day. She didn't think she could handle attending both and she owed it to Tony to attend his. He had risked his life to save her Jimmy. Even if it wasn't the exact reason he died. She still felt the need to go. It's what Jimmy would have wanted. When Ducky asked her if it would be alright with her to combine Jimmy and Tony's funeral she gratefully agreed. Right now however she needed to get away from everything. She splashed cold water in her face and stared at herself in the mirror. She heard somebody else begin to cry heavily and then a thud. She turned around and saw one of Jimmy's co-workers Ziva David lying on the floor. She made her way across the room and pulled the other woman up.
"B...Breena?" Ziva asked.
"Are you alright Ziva?" Breena asked.
"I could ask you the same thing." Ziva replied.
"I just miss Jimmy so much! It's all so unfair! She was so perfect! Just make it stop!" Breena cried.
"Oh Breena I wish I could help you." Ziva replied.
"I wish I could help you." Breena replied.
"Why would you want to help me? You lost your husband." Ziva asked.
"I know you were in love with Tony. Jimmy always talked about it." Breena croaked.
"I was but it's not the same as what you went through." Ziva said.
"Maybe not but it is still hard." Breena told her.
"It is. I should have told him I loved him!" Ziva cried.
"I didn't tell Jimmy I loved him near enough." Breena said.
"He knew you loved him. He always talked about how much he meant to you." Ziva assured.
"I'm sure Tony knew that you loved him." Breena replied.
"I hope so." Ziva whispered.
"Jimmy!" Breena sobbed.
"Tony!" Ziva cried.
